Honestly, I love this place way more than I expected to. I used to think it was just a gimmick, but it's actually such a fun experience. The ambiance is clean and minimal, but it can get packed fast. Even with a long line, service was crazy quick -- I barely finished ordering at the self-checkout before they were already calling my name. The ice cream itself? So good. I loved all the filling options, the fish-shaped waffle cone was great, and the custard filling was easily a highlight. Being able to add a macaron on top plus all the free toppings just makes the whole thing even more fun. The price is a little iffy, but as a treat? Totally worth it.
Visited at 6:15 on a Sunday. The wait was so long, they locked the doors and stopped taking order for 30 mins+. We were one of the last orders before they locked doors/cut off orders and it took 30 mins to get two upside down ice cream cups. So I would be aware coming if you are expecting to get in and out quick. Hoping when the new Plano location opens, this one won't be as busy! I've come before right before close (10:45pm) and it took 5 mins so maybe that's the better time to visit.
This dessert shop specializes in soft serve and taiyaki, fish shaped waffles. The store is bigger than expected and has a lot of seating! Don't be deterred by the queue it draws, it moves rather quick. They have several classic soft serve flavors and swirls they offer at limited time, as well as several fillings for the taiyaki. I got the ube/matcha swirl in a cup with taiyaki filled with black sesame. You get to choose toppings as well - I opted for oreo crumbs and a strawberry. My friend got the banana chocolate swirl soft serve. The ice cream itself is pretty tasty with a nice, smooth texture. The banana was a bit artificial tasting. But otherwise, the soft serve and taiyaki combo is great. Smooth soft serve served with a warm fluffy waffle.
My second time here, but a different location. So my boyfriend got the Ahboong (upside down) with custard filling and Oreo ice cream. The Ahboong tasted like a really fluffy pancake and the custard filling was yummy and had the perfect consistency. The Oreo flavor was good too, but seemed like a basic chocolate flavor. What's good is that you can put Oreo crumbs on it, so that made up for its lack of Oreo. I got the soft serve in a cup with Oreo and Ube flavor, which was so good. It was a perfect combination of the Oreo and Ube. Not too sweet and the Ube wasn't overpowering. Definitely a must flavor to try. Overall, a very yummy and happy experience!
I love somisomi as a sweet treat after a meal! This is located the Koreantown plaza so parking can be difficult especially during the weekend. Somisomi is always packed but the service at this location is very quick. Everything is made fresh from when you order it and you can see them make the orders while you wait. There is also a small seating area at the back to hang out with friends although, the place is very loud.
Love me some somi somi. The food is always hitting the spot and ice cream is sooo creamy and smooth. They always get busy (especially on the weekend) but the staff do a great job of organizing orders and making sure people get their food in a timely manner. Tons of casual seating inside and outside to enjoy as well as shops in the complex to walk around afterwards. 10/10 must try!
Stopped in for a cool treat because it's scorching outside. I wasn't really sure what taiyaki was but I wanted to find out. Turns out it's a fish shaped cake/pastry that gets filled with red bean paste or a custard. Looks pretty interesting but I think I'll come back to try. My grandson and I both got a cup of Oreo flavored soft serve. I got Oreo dust on top and he got fruity pebbles on his. It was really yummy for us both. We enjoyed it inside as there was plenty of seating and the a/c was blowing strong. If you stop in the menu is pretty simple and the staff will explain how it works if you have questions. Cashless pay at the register and retrieve your order on the side. You have a few options for the taiyaki like Nutella etc so I'll have to head back to give that a try.
A little taste of Hawaii, especially if you love ube I tried ube ice cream for the first time in Hawaii, and I've been chasing that flavor ever since. Somi Somi is the only place I've found stateside that consistently offers ube year-round, and for that alone, it's worth the visit. The ube soft serve is creamy, lightly sweet, and has that distinct nutty, vanilla-like flavor that makes it so unique. Paired with their signature fish-shaped waffle cone, it's a fun and nostalgic dessert that stands out from typical ice cream shops. Portions are generous, and there's a good variety of flavors and fillings if you want to mix things up. Service is usually efficient, though it can feel a bit rushed during peak hours, and the wait can be long when it's busy. Seating is limited, so it's more of a grab-and-go experience. Overall, Somi Somi delivers great flavor and consistency, and it definitely scratches the itch when I'm missing Hawaii. If you're an ube fan--or curious to try it for the first time--this place is absolutely worth checking out.
Need a something to cool you off during the hot summers? This place brings tasty Japanese treats and flavorful matcha soft serve together as a great paring. Ordering is pretty simple, you can either order via kiosk or a staff can help you. They are friendly and they make the taiyaki in front of you, which is always fun to watch. The filling of the Taiyaki is great with Nutella and the crunchy exterior really helps with the texture. The soft-serve matcha was great, it really had the matcha flavor and sweetness I like. You can get it with toppings, we did Oreo which is a favorite of ours. Great for individuals or for sharing. There are seating areas inside and they have self service water available.
Stopped at Somi Somi, I chose the "upside down" ube soft serve topped with a taiyaki filled with red bean. This is a really fun combo to enjoy! Featuring a smooth, creamy texture as well as a wonderful combination of sweetness along with earthiness, the ube soft serve was quite a treat. But the real star? The taiyaki! Given its freshly made nature, it featured an exquisitely crispy exterior in addition to a delightfully warm, velvety red bean filling inside. Every bite of smooth soft serve paired exceptionally well, delivering textural and flavorful contrast. The shop's atmosphere had an entirely bright and inviting quality, and the service was consistently quick despite a continual flow of customers. It is definitely something that anyone wanting a really fun dessert should try.

Fast service and easy to order kiosk. They make your order right away and at the end you can choose all the toppings you want. Service was good and quick and the icecream was delicious. I goldfish bread was crispy and delicious and paired well the icecream. I got the matcha and and husband got the coffee banana (which tasted like banana milk). I am not a big fan of banana milk but my husband is and he really enjoyed his icecream. I Really enjoyed my matcha esp with the extra matcha powder on top. The only thing I didn't like was the custard filling. It was a bit tasteless and the texture was just not for me so next time I'll prob stick to Nutella or no filling. read more

Looking for a dessert spot after your meal in Carrollton? SOMISOMI is a classic and popular spot! They have amazing soft serve with rotating flavors such as milk tea, mango, ube, black sesame with freshly made taiyaki in front of you!! This has been a must-stop for me for 3 years now, and I don't think my opinion will ever change. I absolutely love all of their soft-serve flavors. There are always 6 flavors every time so you can be sure to find something you like. They have fruity and milk flavors, and everything is so good. My favorite is their milk tea flavor because it's light and fits perfectly with my red bean taiyaki. I highly recommend getting their upside-down ah-bong. It's a cup of soft serve, with a fish taiyaki at the top. It's perfect if you don't want to deal with messes, especially in the Texas heat. The lines are always packed whenever we stop by, but it moves pretty fast. Their taiyaki are always crispy and hot, even when I take a box home. They have two locations in Dallas and Frisco, but I hope they'll expand to Plano in the future. read more

Thank you to the workers who helped hold merchandise that I got from another store and accidentally left it there. Super friendly and helpful! Besides that Somi somi is consistently tasty among all the locations but this one in particular was great because as soon as you step in the store the smell of the fresh tayaki batter was soooo yummy and they gave a free half a macaron which made it so cute!!! It's delicious, not too heavy, and such a good amount! read more
I love that Somisomi is here! It is conveniently located in the same shopping center as 99 Ranch Market, Daiso and Gen's Korean BBQ. You order from their tablets and wait until your name is called. Once you are called, they'll ask for the toppings you want and if you'd like either a macaron or strawberry on top. We love the Oreo flavored soft serve. We tried the Milk Tea and it was delicious. We normally eat taiyaki with Nutella or custard and both were delicious! Wait times were minimal at less than 10 minutes. Overall, I'll be back if I'm in the area! read more

Last time I was in town, I tried this place and loved it so much so I to had to come back. This time I got something different. I got the ube ice cream with custard filled taiyaki and added coconut flakes as my topping. Service was pretty quick. You order at the kiosk and just wait for your order. We didn't have to wait that long for our order. I also order a 2 piece taiyaki to go. I got ube and red bean. Very delicious! read more

Food (4.2/5): Somisomi's aesthetic is on par with the quality of their foods. Soft serve is great, I usually get the upside down Ah boong and taiyakis (5). Their upside down ah boong-soft serve is top tier, but it's not something I ever crave. The taiyaki on the soft serve is much better than the taiyakis. The foods meet the expectations, but do not exceed them. My friends like it and crave it, so whenever they want to go, I'll tag along and get something, have I yet ever went on my own. I had the horchata and milk tea swirl which was great and I came back a couple days later with my other friend and got the cookie butter and matcha swirl. Service (-/5): The service is a quick cashier action or kiosk-don't have much to based on, but the short term interaction is mediocrely nice. Ambiance (4.8/5): It's a cute, very spacey interior. Plenty of seats, both inside and outside. Cute little lights for aesthetic photos. It's a cute place for dessert and pictures, to hang out friends/family or on a date. read more
I'm OBSESSED with Somi-Somi. Weekends make this plaza in Carrollton very high traffic but lines move surprisingly quick with a touch screen order kiosk. Flavors - I've been here 2x now and they always DELIVER. So many combinations and each fish is baked fresh and filled just for your order. Freshness is guaranteed. I cannot wait to come back and try more! The warm and crispy fish pastry, gooey filling, and delicious cold, ice cream are a pairing made in heaven. Customer service: Incredible! Even under so much pressure with many customers ordering and lines growing so quickly, I witnessed the staff working with grace. If orders need to be adjusted, they gently remind each other and get the job done! With so many orders, they still make time to be courteous and give kind gestures to each customer. I felt as if my order was specifically made just for me. Ambiance: very nice interior. Shop can be a bit tight during weekends and evenings but they do make an effort to have benches, a waiting area for lines, and several tables. read more
We decided to stop by here after dinner at Gen's since it was next door. You place your order at the kiosk and they'll call your name whenever your order is ready. Don't let the long line scare you, it goes by pretty fast. This is a cashless business. The shop is pretty clean and modern. There are more seats towards the back. We did not know this until we went and used the bathroom. Now the most important part of the review. I ordered the ube and matcha soft serve with custard filled takiyaki. When you pick up your order, you have the option to add a strawberry or macaron, and any extra toppings to your soft serve. Let me tell you! The flavors are subtle but you definitely can taste it and it's not too sweet. It's so good! Especially with the warm takiyaki. Yummmm! Yes! Yes! Go try it now! read more
This is my second time coming to Somisomi! I love the fact that you can completely customize your order. My boyfriend got the ice cream with the stuffed fish and I just got the fish with taro filling (I know it looks sad lol). I can't eat ice cream so I just got the fish by itself. I wish they had more dairy-free options here! The service was fast for it being a Friday afternoon. Last time I came here on a weekend and it took foreverrrr to get our order out. The ambiance is pretty cool here as they have really cool seating. It is really cold in here so I recommend bringing a sweater. read more

A delicious treat on a hot night! Taiyaki is the traditional Japanese fish-shaped cake, and here they up the ante by filling it with soft ice cream to make taiyaki aisu. Check their social media for updated flavors. It seems like they will have 6 flavors at a time, and two of each can be swirled. I got the horchata swirled with milk tea, and my brother got cookies and cream swirled with milk. (The other flavors on offer were ube and matcha.) This was delicious! Between the crisp lightness of the pastry, the subtle custard, and the not too sweet ice creams, it was a great combo. The horchata was lightly cinnamony but not soo strong or sweet, and the milk tea a nice complement. There are a lot of modification you can do, from the filling (we both chose custard) to the toppings. The shop is a bit loud (strident music was playing) but there are several areas to sit and it was a preferable alternative to sitting outside when it was still 95 degrees after dark. Wish I could deduct half a star just because the strip it's located in is insane, particularly the parking. We were there on a weeknight, not even a weekend. Overall, though, this is a wonderful dessert choice when in the Koreatown area of Carrollton! read more

I got their banana milk and milk swirl, and I like their banana milk, but not the milk swirl. I got their banana milk and cookies n cream, and I liked both flavors. I get the Oreo crumbs topping, and I think their macaroon is better than their strawberry. Their ice cream is very creamy which I like. read more

This is about my second time coming to this SomiSomi and still a fan. Pictured below is the milk tea with a red bean taiyaki filling with sprinkles. Milk tea flavor was a good choice recommend it. The red bean filling was not my favorite, I prefer the Nutella filling more. The taiyaki is made hot and fresh. Ordering is really easy, all done through a touch screen. The wait for your order is not that long either. Will be coming back to try more flavors and fillings. read more

We made an evening out of selecting multiple places to try NYE and we are so glad we picked SomiSomi for dessert! The fish waffle cone is adorable and they are freshly cranking them out! We had the Cookie Butter flavor yogurt and it was delicious! Definitely recommend! Easy ordering at the self serve counter and speedy service! Fun and lively vibe!! read more
Delicious, creamy, airy Ice cream, what more could you want? I love Somisomi because their ice cream is creamy and the flavors just work so well together with the taiyaki. I also love the rotation of flavors they have here. I'm basic and just go for vanilla most of the time but I really like the texture of the soft serve here. The only reason I gave them four is because they skipped my order and I waited extra time for my ice cream. They forgot about my order and I had to remind them. They saw my ticket and realized they skipped my order. But other than that it's a good ice cream! read more

I love Somisomi!! I've always been a fan of taiyaki and to have a spot where you can order them fresh and watch them make it in front of you is awesome. The custard and red bean flavors are classic so you have to get those. But my favorite was the cheese flavor. It doesn't sound like it would be the most appealing, but it will exceed your expectations! The nutella wasn't all that special but chocolate is chocolate. These don't make the best leftovers, so I would say either eat it all or heat it back up in the air fryer or toaster oven, otherwise they get all soggy and gross. The softserve was also super good. The ube and matcha flavors were surprisingly strong which I loved because you can barely taste it at other dessert shops. And protip: if you go nearer to the end of the day (although it may be busier), the workers might be trying to get rid of the fresh ingredients and may give you a little extra extra! read more

A great place to have dessert after eating at one of the many great options in the area! We usually get an upside-down Ah-Boong. It's a pretty unique thing: a warm waffle in the shape of a fish, filled with Nutella, on top of an Ube and Milk ice cream, topped with Biscoff cookies and a fresh strawberry. The only downside is the long line to order, but I think it's worth it. read more

One huge con that I hope the owner does something about: The order calling. I haven't been in a couple months, but I have been going for a while now and every time the worst thing about this place for the workers and customers alike is trying to hear your name/order number get called. It gets really loud in here and there is a good amount of distance between the front seats/back seats and where the order is called from. Just put a mic&speakers out or order numbers on a TV. I've seen them have to move on to calling the next order bc no one comes up until later. Everyone also tries to crowd the counter area to hear their number (but end up talking making it even harder to hear) and it's overall just an unnecessary mess. Service is nice and food is always yummy. Decor and a decent amount of seats. Would be a lot better with that one change and I'm sure easier on your workers not having to strain their voices for every call. The fact that it's a problem everytime I've gone makes it surprising that nothing has been added to make it better. read more
