    Chocolate & Milk Swirl

Somisomi is yummy yummy. We stopped by for dessert over the weekend and it hit the spot. It's not too sweet so it's perfect. Service was friendly and quick. There are oddly shaped benches inside that I wish they designed it differently. I swear every kid tries to slide down the bench. They tried to block off one side with decorations but they need to block the other side too. They're waiting for an accident to happen! Anyway, I got the chocolate and milk swirl. I added Oreo crumbs and fruity pebble cereal and had it topped with a macaron. It was really for my son but I got to have part of it. My husband loves the matcha here!

Visited Somi Somi after dinner with my grandma and sister for a quick dessert, and it was a nice little treat. We ordered the banana and matcha soft serve, and as always, Somi Somi's soft serve was incredibly creamy -- this visit was no exception. They weren't busy at all, so we walked right in and got served immediately. The only downside was that our taiyaki fish bread wasn't warm, likely because there weren't many customers and they weren't making them as frequently. Overall, still a good visit for creamy soft serve, but I definitely prefer when the shop is a bit busier so the fish bread comes out hot and fresh.

Coming from LA, Somi Somi was one of my go-to spots, so I was so excited to find one here in AZ! The quality and flavors are just as amazing as I remember. Their soft serve is super creamy, rich, and perfectly sweet honestly some of the best ice cream anywhere. But the real star for me is the stuffed taiyaki. I always get mine filled with Nutella, and it's absolute heaven: warm, soft, and gooey on the inside, with the perfect little crisp on the outside. Paired with the soft serve, it's the ultimate treat. So happy this place exists here now. I'll definitely be coming back all the time, just like I did in LA!

I love this type of dessert place - soft serve/taitaki. And I love that Somi Somi has a rotating seasonal flavor - I've tried corn and banana pudding. I got the banana pudding mixed with matcha. I was so excited for banana pudding, but it tasted like creamy artificial banana. And in the swirl, the banana pudding flavor was overpowered by the matcha. The matcha flavor itself was not particularly very matcha-y either. I had a similar experience when I got the corn/matcha swirl too unfortunately. The seating is also not the best. It's just bench seating, so not very comfortable, and no tables. Service has always been good though!

The service is usually good and I enjoy coming here for a sweet treat. However, I've tried to come in at least three times this past week but it's been closed every time. I don't know what's going on but I think it's very unprofessional to have the store closed on multiple random days. There was even a sign posted that said they'd be back on the 26th, but it was closed. I'm very disappointed with this business and I won't be them my money anymore.

This place is bombbbbb for dessert. The taiyaki was really good and I accompanied it with milk ice cream and peach swirl. The inside was clean and spacious and the workers were friendly.

I love Somisomi! Their soft serve is something I always look forward to when in Chandler or California. Smooth ice cream with fun flavors and complimentary topping. I love the taiyaki cone with Nutella! I think they regularly have matcha, ube, milk, and red bean as their flavors. Sometimes they have limited edition ones! The store has been quiet every time I've gone in, which means quick service! Looking forward to coming back!

Matcha Ahboong upside down with matcha custard.

We walked in this cute place for the first time. The lady employee was working by herself. She started getting much busier after we ordered. She was very professional, positive, and welcoming. She gave great customer service even under pressure! The matcha ice cream is AMAZING!!!

Dalgona Soft Serve with Nutella Filled Ah-Bong and Biscoff Crumbles + Coconut Flakes

A delicious little dessert spot! Had to remove a star for the ambiance- there was no indoor seating and for some reason, we were not allowed to sit on the benches while we waited. However, the food was delicious! I ordered an upside-down Ah-boong (filled fish pastry and soft serve) to share. We chose the nutella filling with the dalgona flavored soft serve, and topped with biscoff crumbles and coconut flakes. We also ordered 5 taiyaki to go- Matcha, Black Sesame, Red Bean, Nutella, and Oreo. The soft serve was delicious- it had a subtle, delicate, caramelized sugar flavor that was accented beautifully by the toppings we chose. The crispy filled shell goes together amazingly with the soft serve- my only wish was that the dalgona flavor could have been slightly stronger in the soft serve! The Taiyakis were also delicious- my favorite was the Nutella and the Matcha Custard. The crispy outer shell combined with the mochi-like inside and the warm filling was heavenly! The Black Sesame could have been a bit sweeter, but I appreciate that they have sweet and less sweet options for palates of all kinds. They also keep and reheat well if you are looking for a to-go treat to eat later. A great spot for a delicious dessert!

Delicious sweet treat! Loved the ube and milk swirl ice cream. Taiyaki tasted fresh - crispy on outside and soft inside. Storefront is very clean and basic. Service was friendly. Would definitely recommend for your next sweet craving.

Matcha / oreo swirl with oreo powder on top and two fresh strawberries

I always walk by this place since we visit this plaza often but had not made it in. I finally decided to give them a try and wow, was I blown away. The workers were friendly and greeted us as we walked in. They were out of the "fish bowl" but we were told we could get our ice cream in a cup. We opted for an Oreo and matcha swirl in a small cup with sprinkled Oreo dust and two strawberries. The swirl combination we picked was delicious! The texture of the ice cream was creamy and very rich in flavor. The strawberries were super sweet and big! Now I know why this place is always busy - it's pretty good!

The most delicious and fun ice cream I've ever had! The portions are HUGE. I would recommend making a smaller size option for children. Too big for them to finish, parents are more likely to come back if the food doesn't end up wasted for being too much for a child.

Stopped in for my first experience after eating nearby and was not disappointed. Ordering is easy, there are four items to choose from and then a selection of options from there, but very user friendly. I ordered the upside down with cookies and cream and matcha soft serve and my taiyaki filled with custard. My order was called within a minute or two and I was given options of toppings as well as a mini macaroon and strawberry's. The cookies and cream soft serve was delicious but I was not a fan of the matcha. Thats not a fault of somisomi, I just wasn't a fan. The taiyaki was the star of the show I my opinion, it was fresh and crunch but soft. This was my first time trying this dessert and I'm glad I did. The custard filling was tasty, not too sweet. The combo of all three was perfect in my opinion. Staff was friendly and inside was clean and inviting. I will definitely be back and highly recommend checking this place out!

TLDR: Not worth your money…read more 1. Unfriendly manager The second I stepped into the store with my own matcha drink the manager ran up to me and said I wasn't allowed to keep my drink. He told me I had to chug or throw in a rude manner. I've been to other gens locations that do not care at all if I have a boba from some other store. I was super taken aback and the manager continued being very condescending about it. I get not being allowed to bring in like your own alcohol, but banning outside matcha is ridiculous. What's the point of chugging it when I can just drink it throughout my meal? I also highly doubt gens makes major profits off of their non alcoholic beverages. 2. No beef belly Gens beef belly is the only reason I'd go to gens. But then surprise surprise they had run out of beef belly. Especially since our table had expressed an interest in the beef belly, I feel like it would only be fair to offer us a discount for missing out on an important part of the menu. But honestly I don't think the manager cares that much about the customer experience so no discount for us. 3. No discount for vegetarians Listen, I know that vegetarians usually don't find themselves at kbbq, but we had a friend in the group who is vegetarian and wanted to be included. They get a discount at the Tucson Gens because that location understands that my friend can't have the bbq experience. Once again, customer experience does not matter at this specific gens because they did not give a discount. They also gave my friend a really sad plate of unseasoned bell peppers to grill. $30+ for that was lowkey criminal. 4. No sauce or banchan at the beginning I've noticed other reviews mention this, but what's up with no sauce or banchan at the start? That stuff should already be on the table the second you get seated. We were also already deep into a plate of meat before they finally brought the sauce. Once again I've been to other gens locations, and they usually do things normally (sauce and banchan out at the start). Not to be that guy - and yes maybe I have a particular dislike towards the manager - but it must be the restaurant owner's/management staff's first day on kbbq earth. 5. Bad corn cheese Seriously, how do you mess up corn cheese? It was 90% corn and 10% cheese. Do we not have standards? 6. The soju deal ad I didn't ask for I totally don't blame the waiters for this. As someone who has also worked in customer service, I've been forced to advertise some pretty stupid stuff. The poor waiter kept bringing up soju to me and specifically some kind of soju special they're doing. Guys...it's a night before a workday and I'm just trying to have some beef belly (L). If I wanted soju I would have already asked for a bottle. The poor waiter repeated the ad to me a second time even after my refusal. Very awkward for both of us. 7. Missing items Our table ordered a salad that never came...maybe they're trying to protect us from the diarrhea parasite... Let's be real, I don't come to Gens for a Michelin experience. I just come for some quick, easy, inoffensive, corporate kbbq. No frills, no tricks. But I feel like whoever is in charge here is kind of doing too much in the wrong categories, especially when there are some serious flaws in their food and cooking system. I know a sinking ship when I see one.

We drove an hour to eat here, and we are more than satisfied with the food and service. The service was very friendly and extremely quick. Once we had ordered our food, I went to the bathroom and by the time I got back we had already received our banchan, shrimp tempura appetizer, and bulgogi, followed by everything else shortly after. All the food came out fresh and the bulgogi came out sizzling on a hot skillet ready for us. All the meat we ate was very tender and flavorful. The yukgaejang (spicy beef and vegetable soup, 육개장) was slightly different than what we are used to, as it was more like small slices of beef rather than shredded; however, this is not a complaint as the meat was still extremely tender and almost melted in my mouth. Overall the soup was delicious and exactly what we were looking for. I also wanted to mention the banchan and how fresh it was. There honestly was not a dish that we didn't enjoy, even the fried chicken was amazing (we were so full we had to bring it home). My mother even said she would eat there everyday if we lived closer. At the end of the meal, we were brought watermelon slices. I was tempted to ask how they picked their watermelons or where they got them from, because they were soooo sweet and delicious! It was refreshing after eating all that food. Overall, we will be back 100% and ready to try more menu items. We came on a weekday afternoon, so it wasn't busy when we arrived. We got seated within the 10 minutes since they were setting up the tables for us. Ordering is fairly easy since they offer combos depending which meats you like more. Everything we ordered was good quality. My favorite meat cuts were the beef tongue, brisket and the intestines. If you're not into eating inside parts of animals, I would recommend getting the brisket or kalbi cuts. The Banchan (sides) were good too. They had fish cake, kimchi, pickled radish and cucumbers available. We also tried the tofu soup, steamed egg and corn cheese which all came out hot and tasted flavorful. This spot is a-la-carte, so you order off the menu and pay by items. My only downside is that they didn't have rice paper here since I don't really eat the white rice since it fills me up too quickly. Other than that, I would come back here again next time I'm visiting family. Service here was awesome too! We were checked on throughout our whole meal and the servers were friendly.
