Somisomi brought back memories of my mother and aunts and being with them and eating Taiyaki. I walked in and could smell the intoxication aroma of the scrumptious treat to come. The cashier greeted me with a huge smile and asked what would I like. I was overwhelmed with the choices. Taiyaki had so many selections. It could be filled with red bean, custard, or sesame. I love them all. The ice-cream choices were matcha, milk ice cream, and Ube. It was so hard to decide. However, I thought I should try something different. The cashier suggested Ube with red bean paste. IT WAS DELICIOUS . I could see myself eating them everyday. Whenever I'm in town I will definitely be back. Thank you so much Somisomi for helping me take a trip down memory lane and providing the desserts of my childhood. In 1970 you could only get these in San Francisco Japan town or Japan.!
I'm not going to lie - after finishing our dinner at Chubby Cattle, we weren't entirely sure if we were sweating from all of the meat or the Pleasanton heat. Optimistically, I'd like to think it was more due to the latter, but regardless of the reason, we knew immediately we needed a cold sweet treat to cool ourselves off. Or, more specifically, a short walk across the parking lot to get some Somisomi! Much like all of their other locations that I've been to, this Somisomi is pretty minimal in nearly every way - from their design and decor to their menu. However, the latter, in particular, works for them, keeping things simple and helping them get orders out quickly. Plus, it's not like their menu is short on options - from their ahboong and upside ahboong, to their soft serve and taiyaki, to their milk drinks, cold brew, and cold brew float, they have a great selection to choose from. Not to mention how their variety of flavors of soft serve, taiyaki, and toppings allows for a dozens of ways for you to customize your order! While I already had an idea of what I wanted to get before we stepped inside, it didn't take me long to decide on their flavor once I saw their featured flavor. For my UPSIDE DOWN AHBOONG ($7.95), I opted to get their Cookies 'n Cream & Milk Tea Swirl with a Red Bean Taiyaki and Crushed Biscoff Crumbles. Sadly, this wasn't quite as awesome as I had hoped for, but this was still pretty good. Mostly, the taste of the milk tea in the swirl was hard to notice, but I did think the cookies 'n cream side of it was great. As before, though, the highlight of me was the taiyaki (with the swirl in it), as the red bean filling was delicious and I loved the batter - slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Despite how there was a small crowd ahead of when we got in line, it seemed like it only took a few minutes before all of our orders were ready. What's more, the workers here were all super friendly, which is impressive given how they're just constantly churning out orders one after another for hours on end. Considering how I'm so late to the Somisomi party, I'm sure there may still be some novelty to coming here for me, but it doesn't change the fact that I still thoroughly enjoyed my order. What's more, I don't know what the other dessert options are around Pleasanton, but I imagine there aren't many others that are also open so relatively late (open until 10:30pm on Fridays and weekends). If nothing else, this is a great place to head to for some sweet cool relief from the heat! Or the Chubby Cattle meat sweats...
Tried Somisomi for the first time after dinner at Mumu, and it really hit the spot. Some of us got soft serve, others got the taiyaki, and taiyaki with soft serve. Popular spot, and nice simple yet tasteful interior, including a wall for some photos around the pick up area. I tried their matcha ube soft serve, and got it in a cup since we were going to get in the car and I didn't want to risk making a mess. It didn't take too long, and price was decent in comparison to these spots. When they called my name, they asked if I wanted any toppings. I had no idea, so I got it as is, but that was a nice touch. The soft serve itself was really pretty, but flavorful wise was a bit bland. The matcha was rather subtle, but the texture was really good. It also didn't melt as easily as others I've had which was appreciative. For their taiyaki, you can pick the filling. Yum!
I have come here many times and have tried different flavors. The majority of the time I usually order the Upside Down Ahboong filled with something. On my visit last week, I ordered the Upside Down Ahboong with the Pistachio soft serve flavor, and with the black sesame filling. It was so good! The soft serve had a nice pistachio flavor to it, and the Ahboong was made perfectly with a nice soft chewiness to it. In the past, the Ube and the black sesame soft serve were my favorites. My favorite filling was the custard.
Somisomi is one of the few dessert places in this plaza that remains open past 8 pm on weekdays. I ordered the matcha soft serve with red bean taiyaki. I've been to other locations and remember the taiyaki being warm and crispy. It was crispy, but not warm on the outside. The service was quick, and facility was spacious.
Had some food next door and was so excited to see Somi Somi in the same parking lot! Service is quick but nothing compares to the waffle styled fish with filling! Young crew working there but very professional. Love it!
Walking across from chubby cattle,we've tried their ube soft serve and Taiyaki(fish waffle with filling).The soft serve is refreshing and together with the warm Taiyaki with custard filling is perfect combination for me.
Got the pistachio ube swirl with graham cracker toppings and it was good! I appreciate the ube actually tasting like it and not like taro. Pistachio didn't have an artificial flavor too.
Came in here with some friends after eating at Kura sushi next door! Collectively we ordered three milk soft serves with a nutella filled taiyaki on the top. The staff were very efficient with the preparation, our orders did not take more than 7 minutes to make. Loved how toppings were free! I had Oreo crumbs, cereal, and macaron on mine! Though Somisomi do not have a wide range of choices on the menu, this shop makes the cutest ice cream! The walls in the interior were the cutest with decorations on the walls where our ice creams could pose for a picture. However, what cost them a star was that the place could use some furniture. The shop was practically empty, so we had to stand and eat on a high table facing the wall.
Came here after our lunch. Somisomi is always a good idea! There were people inside and coming in and out. We were lucky and did not have to wait in line. We usually always come here for ice cream, but we went for their taiyaki only this time. We ordered their 5 pack deal and tried some new flavors - Oreo, cheddar, and black sesame. They were all so good! We saw they had a limited time banana pudding flavor soft serve - we will have to come back soon to try it. If you haven't tried Somisomi, you're missing out on delicious soft serve and taiyaki. Come check it out!
This place is good. Been coming here for a while. Was in town so I grabbed a matcha ah boong with a red bean taiyaki. I like how their soft serve isn't too sweet. I always add the matcha powder as well! The employees running the register were quick and friendly. Also super informative. This location is really clean but kind of empty? Not really much going inside but it doesn't matter too much because all the customers inside. Will be back soon!
The ice cream is very creamy and rich. I ordered the milk flavor. It's pretty good but it felt one note. I was hoping for more exciting toppings like macarons or cotton candy. But it was pretty limited. Only one of my kids got a topping but it was "dusted" on the ice cream vs like what's shown in their photos. The taiyaki fish was freshly made. Nice chew. I chose black sesame as my filling but it wasn't really "filled" but more like lightly lined. I wanted it to ooze with black sesame. The flavor was mild. I wanted more black sesame flavor. No chairs. Only one long table to stand next to.
Came after dinner for dessert. The place is small, clean, and standing room only. Even with a line of 5, they move fast! Taiyaki orders may take longer. I like that you can select your toppings and their desserts are not too sweet.

A friendly and fun atmosphere serving yummy soft serve. The soft serve was not too sweet, just the way we like it. It was our first time there and the cashier was patient and helpful to explain to us the different items. 1- You have to first pick the style - eg. Aboong (soft serve in a goldfish shaped waffle cone or upside down aboong (soft serve in a cup and the goldfish shaped waffle cone upside down on top) 2- choose your soft serve flavor or siwrl - we chose Ube for one, and the other was cookies and cream/ube swirl 3- pick filling for the waffle- we chose nutella for one and taro for the other It wasn't long before our soft serves were ready. They asked us if we wanted some toppings like sprinkles, a fresh strawberry, a macaron, cookie crumbles etc. (no charge) We also ordered a couple of their Taiyaki, the goldfish shaped waffle with your choice of filling. My kids enjoyed it very much! They had one with Nutella and another with taro. We will definitely be back to try out the different flavors and other toppings! read more
I asked for a recommendation on their various ice cream flavors and she said her favorite was cookie butter so I went with that. It was smooth and delicious. The biscoff cookie crumb topping also added a nice bite to it and the strawberry was a nice fruity touch. I've never seen their hotteok fish bread flavor and it was SO YUMMY with the peanut bits inside too. Their custard filling is also lovely. Overall the service is snappy and welcoming. There's no seating so that's a tad unfortunate but not a real issue. read more

Every time we come here it's either dead or out the door. Last time when we were here, they only had one person working so be kind and patient. She was taking the orders and also making the orders. Our go to order is usually a two flavor swirl in a cup with toppings and my guilty pleasure is the taiyaki. You can mix and match the flavors and I always end up getting half Nutella and half cream. These little fishies are piping hot when you get them and fresh. I always save the rest by putting them in the fridge and reheating them in the air fryer for dessert throughout the week. These things crisp back up to life perfectly. The flavors for ice cream also rotate. We love the milk and ube when they have it. Must try if you're near one! read more

This is mine and my daughter's favorite ice cream place to visit. Wherever there is a SomiSomi, we will always stop and enjoy some ice cream. The flavors are always fantastic and they usually rotate out some special flavors like mango/matcha or milk/horchata. I like to switch up the waffle cone fillings. I love custard, but I have to say that taro is probably my favorite filling. It just adds a starchy thickness to the soft and creamy ice cream. When you pair that with the crispy/chewy waffle cone and assorted cereal and cookie crumbles that you can sprinkle on top, you get a texturally awesome experience. read more
My family and I were shopping at the San Francisco Premium Outlet on 06/06/2021. It was a warm afternoon and we needed a cold treat. My brother suggested SomiSomi since it's just across the street. Great idea! The place was pretty busy at around 4:15 pm. Fortunately, the line moved fast and it was my turn to order in no time. I got a box of taiyakis and a couple Upside-Downs, one with milk tea and the other with milk tea and matcha swirl. The total was about $21. The staffers I encountered were cheery and helpful. I had the milk tea and matcha one and it was fantastic! The soft serve was creamy and smooth and both flavors tasted like what they were supposed to be. The taiyaki was freshly made. The outside was crispy and the inside was soft and chewy. It was great with the Nutella filling. My brother and mom shared the other one and I heard no complaints from them. We intended to take the box of taiyakis home, but that did not happen since we devoured them during the drive! Great place for soft serve. 5 stars! read more

I have come across Somisomi many times at various locations but never tried them. But this time I could not skip it because of the waffle smell and it dragged me into their store to try. I did not try all options since it involves eating lot of sugars. So I asked for their most selling items, Nutella and Taro. I liked Taro very much, it is like a jam and waffle itself is very warm and I recommend to try this place when you are craving for a warm dessert. read more

Yummy yummy in my tummy! This was such a happy treat. We went to have some hot pot( which was also delicious) and decided that there is always room for dessert!! Great combo and a surprise that we can get other filling in the fish other than red bean. Nutella??! YES!!!! Taro?? YASSS!!! My oh my were we exited! Then after you pick your ice cream, you get to put toppings? -- yes! Oh and then you get to top it off with a strawberry or macaroon. It was so cute. We were the only ones in there, so service was great. When coming to the shopping enter, we will definitely be stopping by again. read more

I ordered a matcha and milk soft serve and a tayaki with nutella filling. It was ready within 5 minutes and everything was delicious. The ambiance was welcoming and clean. There was a line lining up to the door as it was veterans day. There was one staff member at the time running the service so the wait was relatively fast. I will definitely be coming back. read more

I have had SomiSomi before but that was all the way back in Cupertino. This one is a lot closer to me and right next to the Livermore Outlets. I'm always a fan of Taiyaki, especially when you have Nutella as the spread on the inside. For this combo, I got the Matcha and Milk swirl with some sprinkles and a strawberry to go with it. Overall, it was very flavorful and creamy. The ice cream itself paired well together, along with the toppings I requested as well. My favorite is still the little fish itself. I've had Taiyaki at other places, but SomiSomi always feels fresh a small taste the best. Overall, I look forward to enjoying some more sweet treats again at this place. read more

Passed by SomiSomi with my Dad and asked if he ever had Taiyaki before. I was astounded when he told me hadn't. After I described what it was he was intrigued and wanted to check it out! With the windy weather, we both didn't want ice cream and went straight for the Taiyaki. I got the Taiyaki with Red Bean filling and my Dad got his with Custard filling. Let me tell you, the Taiyaki was out of this world! It came out fast, fresh, and hot. Each bite had the perfect crunchy chew and the Red Bean filling was sweet, tasty, and oozing out of the Taiyaki. Service was fast as we were the only customers. The worker was able to prepare everything quickly. She recommended we leave the box open so the Taiyaki would stay crispy--which wasn't an issue for us as we ate it right when we got it. It was the perfect treat that hit the spot and I can't wait to go back to try their other fillings! read more
Really fun and delicious dessert place across from the Livermore Outlets! This place gets BUSY, but the workers are efficient and incredibly kind. I got the cookie butter flavor soft serve with Nutella filling inside the little fish-shaped waffle cone. The prices are fine, and the service is great. The actual dessert itself is FILLING and super, super delicious. They have other flavors I would love to try next time. I highly recommend trying this place out! read more
Pretty enjoyable experience for dessert after dinner. This SomiSomi is located in a nice spot, the newly developed plaza with 99 Ranch as the anchor market. A plaza featuring multiple restaurants and conveniently located across the Livermore Outlets (I refuse to call it the SF Outlets). My wife and I dropped into this location after eating at Kura. Friendly staff, clean location, and tasty treats were a great cap to our dinner/date night. My wife ordered two Taiyaki Fish (custard and nutella). The Taiyaki felt like there was a bit of a mochi texture inside before the filling, which made it extra unique. It feels like the dough was not fully cooked, but I think it's mochi? I ordered the red bean Upside Down Ahboong with Matcha and Cookies & Cream. Both were delicious and while we were full from dinner, we happily gobbled up our dessert. Fun place, would come back if we were in the neighborhood. Looks like many restaurants to try. read more

Delicious! I first tried this spot in LA and wasn't too fond of it. Finally tried this location recently after my brother gave me a custard filled taiyaki and fell in love! I get the 5 of the custard filled taiyaki and freeze it, then pop it in the air fryer for 5 min and it tastes as good as when you first get it! We also got a upside down taiyaki with matcha soft serve and Nutella inside and it was bomb! Their soft serve is really creamy and milky which is what I personally prefer. The LA locations soft serve was a bit grainy so I assumed this location would be the same but this location is better! Service was good and very fast. It does get busy but there is usually 4-6 workers so it does get ready pretty quickly. The soft serve with ice cream was about $6 and $8 for 5 taiyaki which is really good pricing IMO. $6 is what Starbucks and boba costs nowadays so I'd rather spent my money on this. Korean-style ice cream can't be beaten. This soft serve has very unique flavors and it really is the creamiest ice cream you'll ever have. ADD That to taiyaki and you got a match made in heaven! We ordered a swirl mix of ube (purple yam) and the other one matcha. This was incredible. This was easily the best soft serve I've had, and the flavor of the ube was subtle and sweet, and paired with the creaminess of the vanilla it was an excellent combination. The taiyaki filled with chocolate and ube was also delicious! The service was good. Also didn't have to wait long for our order. Decor of the place was super cute! Definitely recommend visiting this place! read more

Yummm!!! I'm so happy they have a Somi Somi here!!! Overall this place is amazing becaaaauuuuse the staff is excellent and friendly, the soft serve is so good and creamy, and I love when they toast the taiyaki a little longer. The triple combination is delicious!!! My favorite is the cookies and cream soft serve, taiyaki with red bean inside and some fruity pebbles!!! 5 stars for the staff, their patience and for pumping out those taiyakis so fast even with so many customers read more

Came here on a Sunday around 4pm. I tried the pink guava and matcha soft serve mix with a red bean filled ah-boong. The ah-boong was warm and crispy. However, the red bean filling was too sweet, and I couldn't eat much of it. The pink guava soft serve surprised me because it tasted so much like guava. I enjoyed that more than the matcha. The matcha was okay, but I've had stronger matcha soft serves. They do let you put unlimited toppings when they are assembling the soft serve, so that's pretty nice. If I come again, I would just go for the soft serve and not the ah-boong. read more

Fun and cute ice cream spot. You can get the soft serve in a cute freshly made taiyaki fish cone. Your taiyaki can also be filled in your select filling. The soft serve is smooth n creamy and not too sweet. The waffle was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We also ordered a variety of filled Taiyaki waffle fish. These were also a delicious treat. Plenty of filling inside a soft crisp waffle. Friendly staff with plenty of shopping center parking. Great fun treat for kids and adults. read more

Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! So excited that we finally have a SomiSomi here! People must not know about it because there wasn't a line and every time I've been to one in Southern California they are packed!! I love the milk. It's my favorite!! Tonight I tried milk tea and cookies and cream. They were good but milk and Ube are still the best. Nice to be able to order in a cup too. read more
SomiSomi is located in a pretty fun filled plaza that offers plenty of other snacking store fronts from the sweet perspective. It's typically pretty hard to miss SomiSomi, as it will be the one with people lining out the door waiting to get their hands on the taiyaki or froyo. Today's visit was mainly just for the taiyaki, although, I have been told by those who frequent here that the froyo is really where it's at, so may have to give that a shot in the future visit. The prices here are a bit high for the froyo, but fairly reasonable for the taiyaki, especially if you buy it in the box with a handful of them inside. Again, haven't tried the froyo, so can't speak for if it's worth it, but will discuss the taiyaki. The taiyaki today we got was the cheddar, nutella, and custard flavors. My favorite flavor out of the 3 was probably the nutella one. Because the taiyaki filling is nice and hot, it just works so well with the melty nutella just blending into the rest of the taiyaki. The custard was okay, but not quite as sweet as I hoped it would have been. And the cheddar, wasn't feeling the savory. One thing that I do want to note about the taiyaki is that it isn't really what you would typically expect from taiyaki. Rather than the doughy consistency that you would expect from a traditional taiyaki, SomiSomi makes their taiyaki with more of a mochi like consistency. It's got a nice crunchy outer shell, but once you bite into the taiyaki is nice and chewagooey, that's right, I said chewagooey, texture to it that just works out pretty well. Not a typical taiyaki, but who said that was a bad thing? So now the real question is, since there's always a line, is it worth it? Yes, for the nutella taiyaki, I would probably come back for that as it was yummy and worked out well with the windy night that was rolling in when we had picked up our box and walked outside to partake in the tasty treats. Will be back to give the froyo a shot. read more
The line here can get crazy, especially on a weekend after dinner. This place is so good though. You may think it's a typical soft serve, but nope. It's the softest, smoothest texture ever. They rotate through flavors and always have an option with a swirl of a couple flavors (you don't choose, they are set). They have fresh fish shaped taiyaki (like a mochi waffle), which you can either get it in its own with different filling or with your soft serve. They have fillings like custard, oreo, hotteok, etc. If you love ice cream and soft serve you definitely need to try this place out. There's an asian market and plenty of restaurants in the plaza if you want it as an after shopping or dinner treat. Pros: Best texture (smooth, creamy, soft) Not a typical American soft serve Good flavors (my favs are matcha and milk tea) At the end they'll sprinkle some dusting or toppings and you'll get an option for a mini macaron or a strawberry Cons: There can be a long line at times No vegan options The custard in the taiyaki was disappointing read more

Never been here before, but decided to try and was delicious! Creative and modern interior, with friendly and kind service with a fantastic smell of fresh waffles! Food: 1- Milk Tea & Matcha soft serve {$3.95, 4.5/5 stars} - creamy and rich texture with hints of milk tea but an upfront matcha flavor! Perfect for match lovers! 2- Oreo soft serve {$3.95, 5/5 stars} - rich flavor of chocolate oreos with vanilla under tones. Delicious! Service: Friendly and efficient staff. Great at explaining the concept to people who never been here. Fun to watch them make the fish shaped waffle. One downside was how loud it was inside with music made it hard to order inside! service: good Interior: super cute! there's also this cute section of the wall for you to take photos! *interior may vary in different stores* would you crave for it? yesss this is my second time getting somisomi after 2 years and it's still bomb af!! they serve a special korean dessert called "ah-boong" which comes in a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with your choice of filling and topped with soft serve ice-cream! there are 3 different styles: ahboong, ahboong (upside down), and soft serve in a cup. choices of fillings include: custard, nutella, red bean, cream cheese and taro. toppings include: oreo® crumbs, strawberry, macaron, graham crackers, fruity pebbles®, rainbow sprinkles. flavors and swirl options varies in different locations! this time i went for the mango and milk swirl and it's soooo creamy! the teriyaki was crispy and chewy and went perfectly with the ice-cream honeydew and mango are their newest seasonal flavors, perfect for summer! read more
Finally Somi, you're closer to me!! Every time, I went to the Cupertino Somi location, there was always a freakin' long ass line! Agh!! I do not really like waiting especially when its hot outside. LOL When I saw that they had a location in Livermore, I had to make an excuse to come here after shopping at the outlet to check it out! This is my most fave dessert place of 2021 so far!! I already went here twice in a week! Just thinking about it, I want to go again! There is just something about their fish cones that is tasty with their thick soft service ice cream. Too bad this location, they don't have the black sesame soft serve available. That is one of my fave flavors besides ube. I saw they did have black sesame flavor before as I saw a picture posted on their Yelp page. I like that we can add free toppings and a macaroon cookie. I have also ordered their Taiyaki's filled with custard and Nutella. So so good when fresh. If you bring it home and it's covered, the shell will get soggy but you can put it in the convection oven for 3 min and the shell will be crunchy again! Totally recommend this place and I am sure as I post this, this location will get busier especially its getting warmer these days and after shopping at the outlet! Thanks for having another location! They have much more flavors and fillings than the one in LA and I just want to try them all! During our first visit we tried ube soft serve with custard filling and topped with Graham crackers, fruity pebbles, and a macaroon Ahboong style (upside down fish in a cup)! You could taste the freshness in the ube. So delicious. The taiyaki fish is warm, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. You definitely need to eat it once you get it to experience this deliciousness! I also like how you can get an unlimited amount of toppings! Toppings include: coco pebbles, fruity pebbles, coconut flakes, graham crackers, oreo crumbs, and rainbow sprinkles. Also compared to other similar dessert places, Somi Somi is cheaper and its the same portion size AND UNLIMITED TOPPINGS! I definitely want to go back and try the milk tea flavor and sesame!
