Solid soft serve flavors. The service was good ; always friendly staff. Cool vibes. A bit dated inside since it's been around a while.
This spot is so good! I came here just for the vibe with some friends and wasn't planning on ordering anything, but then the craving for something sweet kicked in. I ended up trying the taiyaki and yuuum, it was the right move. If I'm being real I couldn't resist the 2 for $4.95 deal lol I wasn't in the mood for ice cream but I still wanted to try the stuffed fish. I got the Oreo and Nutella filling but I wish I would of just gotten two Oreos. The Oreo was a 10/10 both great, but Oreo was by far better! This is a cool chill spot to come grab a sweet treat with friends. The parking lot was super full and the line was out the door, but we made it before the rush.
I'm giving this location a 4 star because I love their reusable spoons with the taiyakj on the end. I've been to numerous somisomi's and I just enjoy seeing what new flavors they come up with. Coming to this location, it was packed for a Sunday night. Numerous guests were awaiting their ahboong desserts. My fiancé got the cookies and cream and milk flavored ice cream while I got myself a Nutella taiyaki and a custard taiyaki. I used the taiyaki to dip into the ice cream. It was fresh and very hot. I didn't have to wait long to get my taiyaki, too. This location is very efficient with their food. I would say the lack of efficiency is in the area of cleanliness. The trash cans were full and the floors were sticky. I only saw two trash cans in sight. Regardless, still a good dessert place for an after dinner treat.
I only tried matcha soft served. You can't really taste matcha. I tried Ube my friend got and that was really good. No matcha, yes Ube. Service is really quick.
My daughter loves Somisomi, so we sometimes stop by after dinner. The only drawback is there's absolutely no places to sit inside or outside. We either had to eat it standing like everyone else, or sit in our car. Love the ice cream, but hate the layout of the store.
I went to the Katy, TX location and that location also doesn't have seating. I'm not sure if that's a common theme. They do have a standing table that you can place your dessert and eat. I ordered the upside down with matcha and sakura berry soft serve and matcha custard filling. This was from March 29, 2026 so I'm not sure if they changed out flavors. Everything was delicious. The soft serve was good but I didn't really taste the sakura berry. Parking is plentiful, it's in a shared lot. Pricing is fair. Service was fast and pleasant.
I like this location over the convoy location. - Parking - The line isn't too long Wish this place had an area to sit. They only accept credit card. My family likes the Icecream. I just like the Taiyaki filled with red bean.

I generally frequent the Kearny Mesa location of Somisomi but after having dinner in the Mira Mesa area, I decided to give this location a try. Pros: 6 different flavors of soft serve, plus 3 swirls. Everything is always tasty, my go to order is the upside down ahboong with custard. Cons: The worker who was doing the toppings was very unpleasant. Also noticed they give less soft serve at this location compared to Kearny Mesa. Cleanliness inside the store could use improvement. Overall this place has a great product but I think this particular location has some issues.
This is a much easier location to navigate than Convoy or UTC. I went at maybe 5:30, so I was the only one ordering and service was fast. There's lots of food in the shopping center, and they're open til at least 11pm. So I can imagine it does get busy at times. I always order the upside-down ah boong. This time I got earl grey and cookies and cream swirled, with captain crunch dust and coconut topping, and my taiyaki with black sesame filling. So good!
I still love coming to somisomi after all these years because who doesn't love an upside down fish cone with filling, toppings and delicious soft serve? Service is usually pretty quick despite the fact they always have a line. The store itself isn't very large and doesn't really have a lot of seating to eat at so plan to take it on the go. This time I got the taiyakis- delicious hot fish shaped waffles with filling of choice. I was not disappointed.
Always the best soft serve and fluffy crispy waffle. This seasonal flavor was strawberry and I love it. We beat the rush but even so they got our orders out so fast and are obviously very used to the large groups of customers.
Another Asian dessert spot that serves muted sweets. Upside down ahboong with ube soft serve and oreo topping ($6.95): looks and sounds better than it tastes. This was creamy but the flavors are toned down unlike several Asian appetizers and entrées that are pungent in flavor, 3.5/5 stars. Theses are strictly photogenic and I'd go elsewhere to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I love Somi Somi and it's my favorite soft serve! They have rotating swirls of the week so it feels like there's always something new to try and then there's the taiyaki too. The only drawback is while they have a counter you can eat at while standing, it's very small and there's no seating. read more
3.5 stars This is my first visit to Somi Somi at the Mira Mesa location. I normally frequent the convoy location and just now had the chance to visit this location. I ordered the pistachio flavor with the custard tayaki topped with a macaron and fruity pebbles. It was a nice and refreshing treat especially with the summer heat. Unfortunately the pistachio flavor didn't taste like pistachio which was a bummer. The service was straightforward. The store had a long stand up bar but no seating at all. So that was a bit inconvenient because most people would want to sit down and enjoy their dessert before it melts in the heat outside. There was a bathroom available so that was good. read more

Yummy!! I had the chocolate soft serve with Nutella stuffed in the fish. The service was good and we enjoyed our dessert. The place was busy but very organized. It was clean and no places to sit only stand. Small place but worth it to try it. read more
Ive never like somisomi. This place is not small, but the room is divided into 2. Its weird actually. You order on the right side and walk over to the other half of the room to pick up your order. My husband got taiyaki. I don't like their taiyaki bc it is to doughy. The texture is just not it for me. The soft served ice cream from McDonald's tastes better. This really just isn't my place. I'll go here bc my kids might want the taiyaki. read more

SomiSomi never disappoints, and their soft serve with Nutella-filled taiyaki is a next-level dessert experience! The ice cream was incredibly smooth and creamy -- I went with the cookies & cream flavor, and it was rich without being too sweet, with a perfect balance of chocolate cookie bits and vanilla base. It's the kind of texture that melts just right in your mouth, making every spoonful feel indulgent. But the real star? The taiyaki waffle with Nutella filling. The taiyaki was warm, freshly made, and had just the right amount of crisp on the outside with a soft, fluffy center. The Nutella inside was generous, gooey, and melted beautifully into the waffle -- it paired perfectly with the cold soft serve, creating that magical warm-meets-cold combo. The presentation is adorable too. The signature yellow cups and the fish-shaped taiyaki sticking out make it super Instagrammable -- especially when enjoyed with cute plushies like in the photo! If you haven't tried SomiSomi yet, this combo is a must. It's fun, flavorful, and honestly feels like a little celebration in every bite. 10/10 would recommend! read more
Flavors good, customer service ok, price transparency *needs work*, atmosphere busy and no real seating. I ordered following the instructions on the menu-- a milk ice cream in a cup with red bean filling. The cashier told me the red bean filling was an extra 50 cents. It wasn't about saving 50 cents, but I wish it would say that on the menu, so I know what to expect. Toppings were free though but fruit would be nice and I would not mind paying extra for fruit as long as the price is listed on the menu. read more
Delicious Taiyaki filled with black sesame! The cookies and cream soft serve was okay. I usually get the Ube or Black Sesame soft serve, but wanted to try another flavor out. The service was fantastic and atmosphere clean. read more

Mmmmm!!!! I had the matcha fish thing, but I wish I had it upside down in a cup because it was kind of hard to eat. The place was packed with what looked like high schoolers on the weekend. I like that the toppings were free. It's simple inside, but it's probably worth eating away from the venue since it was so packed. What a unique experience! read more
Very cute spot for a sweet tree definitely in a busy area however they get their customers in and out very quickly. Lots to choose from on the menu the staff is on the young side, but they do a great job. The place is kept very clean. My little fish waffle thing filled with Nutella was so GOOD!! read more

SomiSomi in the plaza with Pho Cow Cali! Came here after having pho next door and it checked all my marks for an ice cream store. Quick and good service, fun flavors and also free toppings (I chose graham cracker crumbs and a macron shell). read more
My fiancé won't stop talking about this ever since he tried it. The ice cream is so rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious. It's also so fun that it's topped with a fish-shaped waffle with your choice of stuffing. Do yourself a favor and top off your night with this yummy dessert!! You won't be disappointed. read more

Still a staple dessert shop in a busy shopping plaza of Mira Mesa! While the shop itself is small, the options available are worth checking out. It does get packed and very warm in the shop itself with all the irons making the taiyaki! This was my first time seeing Early Grey and a matcha/chocolate blend on the menu, but we went for Ube and Oreo as it's one of my favorite flavors. I went here about a week ago for the first time. We were having lunch next door and I had never been, so decided to check it out. First, I feel like there are so few soft serve ice cream places, so I was excited to see this as it's one of my favorite treats. You can get your ice cream inside of a fish shaped cone that is more like an actual cooked waffle. It tastes delicious, as it's just a bit crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy inside. If you don't want the cone you can get a cup instead. I opted for the cone, and you can fill it with a flavor of filling, I chose custard. Then you choose your ice cream flavor, they have several such as chocolate, ube, cookies and cream, matching, etc. You can also choose from several toppings like sprinkles, macaroon, or cookies, etc. They also sell merchandise like pins. They don't really have seating, which I would say is a downside. I definitely think you should try it out if you like ice cream.. I'll definitely be back to try some more flavors! read more
Somi Somi is my absolute favorite soft serve ice cream shop ever...add to the fact that they have those delicious Fish Shaped Taiyaki this is my go to dessert place whenever I'm near. This visit, I had an Ah Boong with Milk Tea Ice Cream, Black Sesame Filling topped with Fruity Pebbles. I took a pick and it was amazing. My son had his Ah Boong with Milk/Ube Swirl Ice Cream, Black Sesame filling and Sprinkles and was just as happy as I was. In addition, we ordered a pack of 5 Taiyaki (2 Black Sesame, 1 Oreo, 1 Mint Orea, and 1 custard) and they were wonderful as well. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!!! read more

Out of all three SD somi locations, mira mesa CONSISTENTLY underperforms in both quality and quantity. It literally makes no sense why the soft serve would BELOW the cup for the tayaki to practically cover the entire thing.... with that logic, people who order a regular hand-held aboong would only get enough soft serve to fill the inside of the tayaki.... I am an AVID somi somi consumer and have also been to locations in LA and OC, and NONE of them swirl as terribly as mira mesa. (I will attach pics comparing SD locations and one from OG / test lab location) I also tip EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. (and say my pleases and thank yous) I'm just seriously convinced management trained all their employees to be skimpy!!!!! This might sound like a bit much but if I am paying $8-9 for some ice cream, it better be worth it! read more

Somisomi in Mira Mesa is a fun spot for anyone with a sweet tooth. This place has some great taiyaki, a fun, waffle-like fish-shaped dessert that comes in so many delicious variations. Reminded me of grabbing the same street food dessert in Japan. I love the ube and cookies and cream soft serve with it. Very creamy and rich. One surprise highlight for me was also the cheese taiyaki option--it's better than you'd think, tasting like a crispy, doughy grilled cheese sandwich. It's nice to have a savory option with all the sweet ones too. Although the shop itself isn't very big, there's a small counter that lines the wall where you can stand and enjoy your treats. I visited on a Saturday night, and it was definitely a popular time, with people coming in and out for their taiyaki fix but we still found a portion to share and eat along. Somisomi manages to create an experience that's both nostalgic and novel. If you're craving something sweet and unique, this is definitely the spot to check out. It's one of those places where you get excited to go back and try more combinations. read more
