This is a HELL NAW from me. I went for a Brazilian wax and eyebrow threading and I left halfway thru my wax. Never got to my brows. This women obviously had no idea what she was doing, I should've asked to see if she was even licensed. She wanted me to stretch my skin out for her (which was fine, at first) but she was essentially having me do her job for her so that she could avoid touching my coochie and was having me use my finger to "protect" my clit, etc from her. My fingers were sticky from wax and it was like she was just going at it and slapping on wax like an angry painter. She also said to make sure not to slip because if I do and something happens, "that's not her fault". She was re-using the same wax strip over and over and over and over until I noticed and told her to stop (she still kept trying to re-use the same strip anyways and trying to strip from the already hair-covered wax) there was thread from the strips all over my coochie and in the end, she poured baby oil all over my hand and told me to clean up myself. When I asked her to keep a triangular shape for the design, she wasn't able to even do that and tried leaving me with a blob of hair there. No shape or design at all!! I had her clean up the lines as much as possible and then I left a $20 on their counter (I was panicking and trying to leave as quickly as possible but I regret leaving my $20) and left. Let me start by saying after complaining to the manager, she literally shrugged and said "I guess people have different tastes" and walked away without caring at all. I have been coming here for over a year. My regular girl doesn't work there anymore, and when she was there I would have given 5 stars. I went in yesterday to get a mani pedi. I picked my pedicure color and asked her if she had anything that matched the pedicure color for no chip. Shirin the tech said no, I told her what I was looking for and she showed me a pale pink color to which I said ok that's fine, but I wanted the colors to match so asked her if she had a color similar to the color we picked for my nails for my toes. She brings out another pale pink and says they were very similar. Let me start by saying my toes and nails look nothing alike. My toes are a baby pink and my nails are a sheer pink (which is very frustrating because that is the original color I had picked for my toes and the color she said she didn't have for nails). I didn't know the pink for nails would be so light until after she had finished my toes. Without asking if I wanted my toe nails cut (I've never had someone not ask)she started clipping them, she clipped them so short they are way past the toe itself, it's also so far down that it's actually painful and will be painful growing back. I wasn't watching her every move so I didn't catch this until it had happened. Next there was nail polish on my actual toes not just the nails. When cutting my cuticles it was like she was angry at me and not only was it painful but she made me bleed. The no chip looks sloppy. There is nail polish all around the edges. she also filed the nails so short it hurts to even type this review. Furthermore, Shirin KEPT blowing her nose and then not washing her hands but continuing with my manicure. It was unsanitary. The attention to detail that I was used to was not there. I paid and then said something to Sonia because I wasn't trying to get out of paying, just wanted her to know. There was no apology, just that shes surprised because this is her best girl. She brought Shrin over and she blamed me telling me my nails were too short to begin with, first of all, no they weren't. Second of all don't blame me for your shitty work. Did my short nails cause my cuticles to bleed too? What really upset me, was that Sonia shrugged and said "I guess people have different tastes" and then walked away. She was not concerned at all. I wasn't asking for my money just recognition and an apology. I will not be returning. Sonia's word's made it clear that her customers are not valued. Don't go here, if that's her best nail tech you are better off going somewhere else. read more

Sonia's is awesome. I have had several treatments done here and I'm always pleased with the results. My new favorite is the lash lift and tint. It's only $70 and it lasts for months! So nice to not have to put mascara on daily, especially now! She always makes me feel comfortable and offers me chai tea when I come in. I recently visited this location. I had a groupon and I thought why not, seems good and had great reviews. I was wrong!! It was a horrible experience. I had gotten late about 10 mins. First she complained how late I got there and I get it, i wouldn't have mind if she told me I'd have to reschedule, I get it everyone's time is important but her no she told me she can do my wax quick. And she kept saying she has other appointments and that she has to finish quick with me. First of all her wax was so damn hot! And she put it right on me, and when I got out of there I was in so much pain. I didnt think it was that bad. But that night my bikini line was all red and it was still burning. NEVER AGAIN!!! if you want my advice stay away from this place! There are many salons you can spend your money on, this one isnt worth it. The nail service looks way better. I feel terrible leaving a disappointing review, but I want you all to know what you're getting yourself into. It all started when a friend and I made an appointment here two weeks in advance. We showed up to our appointment and they said we didn't have one. They told us we made an appt at the other location. We told them that it was okay and that we would drive there now. They proceeded to call them and there was no reservation there for us either. They then asked us to pull up our call log on our phone to prove that we called. We did and their number was in the log for two weeks prior. We indeed made the appointment. Sonia didn't write it down. And Sonia never apologized for any inconvenience. She was actually quite rude, if this was the true Sonia herself. We then made a new appointment for about a week and a half later. My friend who made the appt called the day before juuuuuust to make sure we had an appointment at the time we wrote down on our calendars. They said we were in the books so we figured, great! See ya tomorrow. Well, my friend showed up first to the appt and they proceeded to tell her that the appt was actually for an hour and a half earlier and we missed it. She talked it out with them and we got in at the appropriate time. Next came the pedicure. All was going well until the girl that was doing my toes clipped my skin not once but twice and my toes started to bleed. The pedicure looked nice so I'll give them that, but when I got home, I didn't realize it earlier, but the two toes that she had clipped had blood all over them. I know, gross, but I want to be real about my experience. I will say too that the place is just cluttery. Boxes of their products that should be in storage are just sitting on shelves and out and about and it's just kind of dingy looking. We won't be coming back here ever. I get brazilian waxes once a month so I cant be spending $60 every time. You just cant beat a $35 brazilian. I go to the one in Andersonville and Wicker Park depending on the day-- the wicker park location is much nicer/cleaner but more expensive, BUT monday, weds and thursday you get 20% off services, making the prices more or less the same. I get my brows and lip threaded here as well and they always do a good job. Regardless of which location you go to, they do a good job for less. Dont go here for your typical spa experience, go to get the job done inexpensively and efficiently. read more

I've always gone to salons with mediocre service, but really close to my home or with great service, but far away from my home. When I was a commuter student at Loyola U. it was nothing for me to go somewhere on Devon, but those times have changed. I decided to make the trek up to Sonia Salon since I was already running errands in that area. I walked in and just told them I wanted my eyebrows threaded and sat down right away. I told her exactly how I like my eyebrows and she told me okay. Honestly, it was the most gentle threading I've ever had, and I've been getting my eyebrows threaded at various places for about 5 years now. She also rubbed some cream on my eyebrows after I was done and gave me a forehead massage. My eyebrows were exactly how I told her I wanted them, and it seems that she was able to do a good job on my funky left brow--a huge plus. As I left, I was offered some ice cream. I mumbled a "no thanks", but she insisted and put it in a cup with a straw and I took it with me. I'm glad I did too, because I actually was starving! Overall, great service, very pleasant people and good work on a girl with wacky brows. read more

While complaing to a friend about the cost of my brazilian she recomended that I try Sonja. For half the price of other salons, Sonja does a great wax! I never have a problem getting in to see her. In fact, I can usually call day of and get right in. She is so friendly! I always feel like family (if family gave you brazilian waxes...). Often, the salon has other deals with threading, facials, manis and pedis. I live in Portage Park and it's worth the drive for her services! I have refrained from reviewing salons where I get waxed, mostly to spare myself and my male friends who read my reviews some embarrassment. However, I decided to break from this rule to review Sonia's because I feel like they've really earned my five stars. On my first visit Fatima did my brazilian and I had no complaints. However, it was during my second, most recent visit that I struck gold with Sonia, who I ended up having by a stroke of random luck it seems, as she is usually quite busy. What stands out to me is that she threads after waxing, so that every single hair is removed. The level of pain (ha) is the same or less as many of the pricier salons I've visited (Charles Ifergen, for example). Sonia is quick, skilled, and lovely to talk to. While I appreciate the little luxuries at nice salons, I am also definitely willing to forgo them to save some $$, and you can't beat a $35 brazilian. I will definitely be explicitly requesting Sonia from now on. read more

"Pick your color."* I still laugh a little when I hear that. I do like to take care of myself and indulge in a mani/pedi when I can. Sonia Salon is a great spot to go for just that. This is truly a neighborhood salon with a local vibe. I also dig that it's clean and doesn't smell of overused, cheap hair products or nasty chemicals. Everyone is friendly and provides great service. My feet and hands look and feel wonderful! I have my eye on the eyebrow threading, which I have yet to try. One of these days... Just a note if you're thinking of dragging a big group here for a BFF's day out: the place isn't that big and they only have a few chairs each for each type of service. However, I get the impression that they'd do their best to accommodate you. Be sure to check their website for specials, as they often have printable coupons for a discount on services. While I still stand by my previous review about Sonia providing a stellar eyebrow threading, I regret to write that there is nothing stellar about their no chip manicures. I have manicure issues. Meaning my manicures typically last me about 24 hours before I get a chip. It's not as if I work construction or go bowling every night, so I have no idea why my manicures just don't last. Then some genius came up with the idea of a no-chip manicure. When done right, this manicure will last up to two weeks! My past experience getting one (from another salon) gave me super gorgeous nails for three weeks! My no chip from Sonia Salon however only lasted two days. TWO DAYS. I called and told them and they offered to redo my nails. I very much appreciate the fact that they stood by their work and offered this service to me again free of charge, however, the second no chip manicure I received lasted 3.5 hours before one nail was completely chipped off. By the time dinner rolled around at 6 pm (approximately six hours later) I had two nails with no polish at all because it peeled completely off. Once again, I wasn't bowling, I wasn't grating potatoes I did nothing wacky with my hands. So what you should take away from this review is this: regular manis and pedis here are great, threading services are even better. No chip manicures, however, I would definitely not recommend. read more

Oh, Yelp. You never do me wrong. I have been searching desperately for a place that does a spa pedicure (I'm a sucker for rubs and scrubs) that is decent, hygienic, and affordable. I found Sonia. I called last Sunday (they're open Sundays!) to get an appointment for later that day and was fit in with no problem. The location is lovely, on a nice block of Clark St in a nice building. I was easily able to find parking up a nearby residential block so as to avoid breaking my passionate boycott of Chicago Parking Meters LLC and their payboxes of death. The space is nice, not too big or too small, clean-looking and had a good color selection (I went with Elephantastic Pink -- OPI, of course). The girl who did my pedicure was wonderful. She was a little chatty, but not overly so, and she really dug into my poor tortured tootsies. The pedicure, for a seriously reasonable $30, included your usual massaging chair which vibrated nicely, the blue-water soak, filing-clipping-scrubbing, and painting. It also, as a "spa" pedicure, included not one but TWO bliss-inducing scrubs, a moisturizing oil rub, and extra extra massage. She actually made it a point to ask specifically where I had pain, and work it out for me. Of course, because I am the worst kind of klutz, I ruined one little piggie as soon as I stepped out of the chair towards the drier. Cringe. She took the whole mess off and re-did the entire toe, crouching on the floor near my feet. Talk about service. The pedicure lasted a solid 50 minutes, and I have nary a chip nearly a week later. I have never had such a good pedicure for such a low price. Admittedly, it would have been cheaper had I not gone "spa," but the promise of extra pampering was too much to pass up. I'll be back. I am so beyond elated that this salon is here! I've needed a place to get my eyebrows threaded in the city for years and I just found this place right around the corner from my apartment. The owner, Sonia, was incredibly sweet and kind and I had a warm conversation while she threaded my brows which ended with a sweet face massage with lotion and her touch reminded me of my mother's. I am giving this place three stars but will definitely have to go back one more time as this may have just been a one-off since they have gotten mostly great reviews. Upon my move to Chicago, today I set out to do some very important errands. And the first? Eyebrows threaded! I mean, I can't walk around my new city with bushy brows, right? This place is not nearly as fantastic as my all time favorite eyebrow threader in the world, Bebe in San Francisco, but it did its job in a pinch. I made an appointment (got lost and was about 30 minutes late; however they were very understanding) but you can pretty much walk in whenever you feel like it. Chances are you won't wait more than 5 minutes to get threaded as there are about 3 ladies that were working there when I showed up. She shaped them nicely but I wasn't satisfied with the after-groom. No tweezing at all and there were a few strays which I had to take care of myself later. I also didn't feel she spent enough time sort of thinning out the middle. No, this does not make the actual shape thinner, it just sort of filters the hair in the middle, making them look more Katherine Zeta than Brooke Shields, if that makes sense (?). Oh but she gave a lovely little temple massage at the end which was a nice way to end. And, Sonia's is very very cheap. Only $8 for the eyebrow threading which is a deal if you ask me. This is the place to go if you need maintenance and are on a tight budget. I've been going to Sonia for waxing and threading pretty regularly over the last few months and it is really a steal, with minimal after-effects and long-term results - I've never had my eyebrows keep their shape for so many weeks. Sonia is careful and thorough and sweet. She often brings a round of sweet frozen treats to the customers and once even cracked open a bottle of pinot grigio for me and another girl in the pedicure chairs because we were still there after close. She also does excellent facials and eyebrow threading includes a head massage. Last week I walked out of there after 3-4 services for $47, easily a third of the cost of another salon. She also has packages posted on her website and is usually able to do substitutions on those. read more

I was really excited about giving this salon a whirl, since it is in my hood. As I walked in, the receptionist was nice and attentive. All the gals seemed happy about their mani/pedis and there was a woman getting her eyebrows threaded. All of the employees were professional and looked as if they knew what they were doing. My meh experience? The deluxe facial. I should have known something was fishy when I walked into a room that resembled a closet and there was no warm blanket to get under. Long story short: There were stages to the facial that I have never experienced, nor would I ever want to again. I ended up being partially blinded for about 30 minutes because a lot of lotion seeped into my eyes, which led to blurry vision and a slight burning sensation. Also, I was so slimy at the end of the service, I could not wait to get home and hose myself off. Would I go back for another service? The last few times Fatima has done my threading and 1) does them way too thin and 2) leaves too many random hairs that I have to go home and tweeze them myself. It would also be nice if you used a tissue to wipe the random loose hair off of my eyelids and face. I converted to threading several years ago when a miracle worker on Devon managed to minimize the visibility of a little eyebrow scar by removing hair. How? I don't know, that's why I called her a miracle worker. Also you should know that my eyebrows are naturally pretty good in terms of shape, color, thickness, not being connected, etc. I tend to strut them around like a show dog on a leash. That said, they still need a little maintenance, as we all do. After shopping around a little, I have found that the price is typically low everywhere, but the atmosphere and technician skill varies. Some places show Bollywood music videos, some suggest an upper lip threading (upselling through paranoia), some seem a little less than pristine, and some believe you're down with getting groomed at a kiosk in the middle of the mall where who knows who can see you. No thanks, I'm good. Fast forward to now, when I still get 'em threaded periodically but perhaps not as often as I should. I've trusted them to a few different women at Sonia, and have never been disappointed. I've had to wait, but only once. The salon is somewhat laid back, on the no-frills side of the spectrum, and I think does mostly local business. They also do nails and I think some skincare. I've also had a couple waxes but in the interest of not mortifying my husband as he reads this, I will omit those details. Overall, solid results, quick service, competitive prices. This owner ATTEMPTED FRAUD on me trying to use Groupon as a scapegoat. Groupon was awesomesauce as always, but this woman agreed to accept a coupon for $50 well in advance for the $45 manipedi I got. When I got there, she ignored me for 10 minutes, and pretended not to know I was there and then tried to cancel my appointment in Hindi, but I have pretty uncommon name and I caught her in the act. I then still waited 15 minutes. And it was 10 minutes into my manicure when she ASKED if I had the groupon and I told her I did. I got the manicure, waited another 15 minutes for a BROKEN massage chair and got a pedicure. When I went to pay, the middle-aged gentleman who had come in to work the register told her he didn't know how to work the Groupon on my phone. When she came over she tried to pretend she had never agreed to the groupon I was presenting, even though the salon had *called me* in order to make the appointment after discussing the booking between staff and management HOURS after I had asked. She pretended that she was only accepting another active groupon that covered a pedicure only and tried to charge me for half the services I received. In case you're not following, this is a CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH on her end. When I informed her that she would not be getting any more cash out of me, she threatened me with the police and called me a thief. I left and realized I hadn't tipped the poor nail tech who seemed to be just out of school and went to a neighborhood restaurant bar to get change. THE WOMAN FOLLOWED ME YELLING THAT I WAS A THIEF TO THE ENTIRE STREET AND RESTAURANT WHILE I WAS GETTING CHANGE. I yelled back that I was getting change to tip her nail tech and she left only just before the bartender handed me the cash. I went back to the shop to tip the tech, where I was met with MORE YELLING IN FRONT OF HER CUSTOMERS WHILE I LEFT A TIP FOR HER TECH ON THE TABLE. THE WHOLE TIME SHE KEPT THREATENING TO REPORT ME AND MY (ILLEGALLY RECORDED IF TRUE) IMAGE TO THE POLICE. I JUST LOOKED UP THE OTHER GROUPON TODAY. IT'S FOR A $45!!!!!MANIPEDI!!!! MY GROUPON WAS FOR $50!! Purchase price of mine: $25. Purchase price of manipedi groupon: $22. And to top it off: the mani-pedi special according to the sign outside on the sidewalk for the day: $30!! If you're still not following: SHE CLEARLY AND OPENLY ATTEMPTED TO DOUBLE CHARGE ME for services already obtained AND WHEN I REFUSED TO IT, CALLED ME A THIEF AND HARASSED ME WITH PUBLIC THREATS. I'm black and she ignored me for 10 minutes said "you people" and used the POLICE as a viable threat. Over-crowded, over-booked, and over-staffed. Laughable selection of colors, intentionally confusing pricing on the website (can't find a question mark in the price range area to mark this properly), overpriced for the district (5 nail shops in the area with competitive CLEAR pricing with low chance of a bait and switch) and slow, terrible service. I'm a vet to eye brow threading. I have been doing it for years now and switched from waxing ever since I had a nasty experience with the wax pulling my skin off. Sonia is VERY friendly and instantly makes you feel important and comfortable. I'm weary of trying new places because of the whole "they're going to do a bad job and ruin my face" thing but the atmosphere here waned those fears. Sonia's worker started on my brows with Sonia carefully watching but then stepped in and they both worked on me. Sonia told me she owned a salon in India for 18 years and this one is 13 months old. She is very skilled and talented only using natural products (according to her). I have had VERY painful threading done by less skilled technicians, but Sonia assured me she has been threading in some form for 26 years now. She did it so fast I hardly felt anything! Then after wards her assistant rubbed aloe vera lotion (all natural) on my skin and gave me a temple massage. Overall it was a great experience. Pros: -The price, only 7$$ BEST PRICE IN CHICAGO!! -After your 6Th threading secession, the 7Th is FREE!! -Less painful b/c Sonia is very skilled -Friendly atmosphere -Aloe Vera lotion and temple message Cons: -Location-It's on the cutest part of Clark Street but VERY North. This place is wonderful!! I've been to my share of hair removal salons over the years, and this place has everything I could ever want! I loved the staff, Sonia is amazing, and the place is clean and comfortable. Sonia did an underarm and brazilian wax about as painlessly as you could expect, and her friendly manner made the experience comfortable. She also threaded my eyebrows. I had always had them waxed before, but, after this, I will ALWAYS go for threading! Lastly, she did an awesome mehndi design on my hand. All this for the lowest prices I've ever paid, although the service rivalled that of the most expensive salon I've ever visited!! All in all, a wonderful experience, and easy on the budget!!! Go! Go! I think this place is awful. It's a mess when you walk in. People sitting at folding tables instead of manicurist booths. Stuff everywhere, weird paint, horrible decor. Its also kinda strange they all share products, passing it around, climbing over each other to grab the stuff they need. The prices are comparable to places around, but its unpleasant. Also, NO MUSIC? Why? Oh wait, every 10 seconds the phone rings, an annoying jingle of a ring, as they take more appointments than they can handle. No thank you. ****TMI ALERT**** Single or in a relationship, I have come to embrace the importance of waxing your nether-regions. Why, I don't know? The issue I have, as many of my posts have indicated before, is that I'm frugal. Of course when it comes to having hot wax put so close to your nether-regions it's probably not the best idea to cheap out and go with some skeevy place. I have learned this. So I've tried a variety of places - some cheap, thanks to Groupons or LivingSocial deals - and others more expensive, at fancy spa salons. I have found the outcomes to be relatively the same whether I paid $25 or $75. Granted $75 gets scented candles, relaxing music and the ambiance, but who the heck cares when someone you don't know is pulling hair from down there?? Enter Sonia Salon. I came across the salon thanks to a Groupon deal and have found the work to be just fine and the price even finer. Can't complain. The first few times Sonia did the work, and as much as the other girl does a good job, I found I was much less sore and bruised after Sonia. The room where the waxing is done is cleaner some days than others, and it is a little weird that no music is playing. Given how thin the walls are I'm fairly certain girls getting manis or having their eyebrows threaded can hear the "riiiping noise" of the waxing. Awkward. In any case, they do a decent enough job for a reasonable price. I learned that there's another waxing salon on Damen about equal distance from me, which I may check out. So I bought the recent Groupon where you could get a main/pedi for $22. As that's a great deal, I jumped on it. The Groupon said it was recommended (not mandatory) to make an appointment so I called about a week ago to try to set one up for that night. The number disconnected on me each and every time I called and I tried multiple times. I then called the other location and was told "I don't know why it's not working. Maybe they're running a credit card. Try back later." So I called for an hour to no avail. This was not a good omen for my salon experience. I eventually called the other location back and sat on the phone while the girl there tried to reach the spot in Andersonville. She came back and said she was sorry but didn't know what else to do. Great. After well over an hour of trying, I finally got through. I explained I was already frustrated but that didn't seem to matter and I was told they couldn't see me that night. No problem. She tried to reschedule for 1pm the next day but as I work until 5, it was going to have to be later. The next available appointment was almost a week out - I had planned on getting my eyebrows waxed too but didn't want to wait that long so went elsewhere for that. Then the night of the appointment arrived and when I got there and saw a sign that said Groupons must have a reservation, I was glad I called in advance. I will say this - my nails look great and there were many colors to choose from. That was about it. I noticed another reviewer said they had lots of drinks but I wasn't offered anything. The staff was not friendly and barely made eye contact. There was one woman working on me and the rest sat around looking bored - if it's like that every night then I don't know why it took so long for me to get in there. Then some young man and his mom came in because apparently he had an interview and the owner (Sonia herself) had him give her a manicure as part of the interview. That makes sense but it was awkward for me, the only customer, to watch this poor kid's mom show him the best way to massage a palm. They had a huge TV playing music and I wish it had had a show - any show - for me to focus on instead. While my nails do look great, lots of places can make them look good. I doubt I'll be going back here, which is a shame because it's so close to home. You win some, you lose some and that applies to Groupons too. read more

I'm sorry, but I've tried so hard to like this place, but I simply cannot. It's so close to my house so I would love for it to be both high quality and convenient, but it unfortunately it is only convenient so I will still need to travel to another neighborhood to a place I trust to do my eyebrows. It feels pretty unsanitary to me as the switch from Handling money to touching your clients face to touching another client without any hand washing. The used threading material was all over the floor, and they rotated from one client to another in the chairs without any sort of cleaning practices. When it was my turn, even though I said I was there for a wax, I had a lady shoving me down to get threaded without even speaking to me as I sat in the chairs. I corrected her that I was there for waxing, so she switched to wax and it felt like she did not pay attention at all, just one strip on the bottom of each brow, one strip at the top, with the no concern of shape whatsoever, and then she says, I can thread on top a little because they are a little messed up and I cant wax there. I want to say I was in the chair for 3 minutes. No tweezing, no trimming, no checking for uniformity, just on to the next client as soon as possible. I know it's only 11 dollars, so I shouldn't have expected much, but seriously, spend the extra 10-15 bucks and go get a real eyebrow wax or get them sugared at Painless Waxing Boutique in Lakeview. You will thank me! Also noted, the lady next to me at this salon was getting very upset with the person doing her eyebrows (not sure what exactly happened), and someone else walked out while I was there. After I wrote my initial review, I received a phone call from Sonia herself. She apologized profusely for my experience, and invited me to come back and to get all of the services done by her personally, free of charge. A month after my first visit, I was in the neighborhood and dropped in on Sonia Salon to see if she could fit me in. She was super sweet. She made sure I was happy with my eyebrows...making sure they didn't end up too thin. The bikini wax was very thorough. She is obviously a pro. Her attention to detail was great, and she never used the same dipping stick twice. Also, the previously disgusting waxing room had received a fresh coat of paint and was much much cleaner. She had, who I can only assume, her best manicurist do my nails, and I was very impressed. Two-and-a-half weeks later, there are only a few chips and not too much wear. Possibly the longest lasting polish I've ever had. In the end, I would go back to have services done by Sonia. Just beware of some of her unskilled staff! read more

Bought a Groupon for this place. Went to get my fingers and toes done for my wedding. My wife and a bridesmaid went along. The wife and I had appointments, my bridesmaid did not. They got her in with us, which was awesome, and gave her the Groupon price even though she had yet to buy it. The service was fantastic at first. The owner is terrific! We were immediately given one person to work on us. We were given tea while we chose our color. At this point, the experience differs. My wife and bridesmaid were with 2 wonderful ladies who not only worked professionally on them, but were polite and conversational. The person I was given lacked any personable skills. I asked if I could have different colors for my nails and toes and was harshly told no. That was fine, one color works, it's a Groupon. I sat next to my wife while our feet were pampered. As we went, I noticed that the woman working on me skipped steps and hurried through my treatment. She did get all the necessary parts, but I watched my wife get a massage, lotion, and much more attention. She painted my toes properly enough. I was passed to another woman who threaded my whole face. She was awesome! Then it was time for my hands. I was pointed back to the woman with long black hair and she proceeded to ignore anything that wasn't my fingers and chat with the other lady working next to her the whole time. This would have been fine if the paint job was terrific, which it was not. Any time she needed to give me instructions it was harsh few word commands. She rushed through the manicure and stuck me under some dryers and left to go smoke or get food or something. My bridesmaid and wife were still being pampered at this time. She was back when my timers went off and put me through another dry cycle. She then sprawled out on a couch and played with her phone. My timers went off again and she did nothing. After a bit I got up and sat on the couch next to her with my phone, waiting for the others. Eventually she got up and left for good. The woman who ran the register was very polite. My wife and friend were treated well, so I'd consider going back, but I'd refuse to be put with the lady with long black hair again. She should not work in a business where customer service is key. read more

I got my first threading done here, and I've never had better! Now I travel great distances to get to Sonia's. This past time it was a holiday, and they sent me out w. a great snack, since my ride was waiting for me and I couldn't eat there! In the past, I've taken my 2 y.o. and baby in there, and the girls are great w. them. They played w. the older one and held the younger while I got my eyebrows perfected! And soooo cheap! read more

Today was my second time to go to Sonia Salon. I waited to review it just to be sure. Results were consistent. :) The first time I went, I had a manicure, pedicure, and brow threading. The pedicure was good...they have spa chairs and the woman who did the pedicure was competent. I won't say this was a life changing pedicure, but then again, I get pedicures regularly, not as an occasion treat. It was a pedicure. She was careful, and at the end, my feet were soft and my toes were shiny and red. I'm happy. The one thing that stood out: GREAT leg massage. The one thing that sucked: she barely spoke English and this woman was hell bent on talking to me the whole time. It was a little painful, to be honest, but I appreciate her being so warm. The manicure was great. A different girl cleaned up my raggedy nails and made them look spectacular. I don't remember too much about the service itself, but I do remember this. IT LASTED TWO WEEKS. TWO SOLID WEEKS. Unbelievable! First off, I am not shy about using my hands. I play with my dog, I wash dishes, hell, I was even in the process of moving at the time. TWO WEEKS! No chips! Amazing. As for the brow threading (had it done there the first time and this past visit)...I really didn't know what to expect the first time I had it done. I had read reviews with people saying "Oh Sonia is so gentle" etc. etc. I really have no comment on that because this is the only place I've ever had my brows threaded. Maybe I'm just a total pansy, but threading hurts! It's worth it, however. My brows always look great when Sonia is done...she's a total pro. The skin around my eyebrows does get a little red when she's doing it, and it stays that way for an hour or so afterward. I just plan my visits accordingly (ie: with nowhere important to be afterward). I'm not sure if the rose-scented cream she rubs in when she's done is an anti-inflammatory or not, but it certainly feels nice. Also, both times I went I walked in off the street and was accommodated immediately. Nice! I'm hooked! read more

This is a great salon for waxing services--fairly cheap and fast!. I normally go to Fatima--I haven't yet had the pleasure of getting Sonia. Fatima is quick, although not the most painless that I've ever had. But I'm usually out of there in under 20 minutes! Just a couple tips: the wax is not the most soothing--I've had to mix it up and go to other salons to give my skin a break (mostly the reason why I didn't give the salon more stars). In addition, the waxing room is adjacent to the foot baths and separate from them only by one of those folding plastic separators. If you don't like the idea of people hearing you get your lady hairs ripped off, this is not the place for you. Other than those two things, you can't beat the price and the convenience! read more

Sir Spa up the block charges double for what the staff at Sonia gives me, so I'm sold. Now the wife will play footsie with me in bed again. read more

Ok...so I ventured to Sonia's Andersonville location. After reading all of the reviews I figured it was worth a try. Well I had some good things happen and some bad things happen. Let's start with the bad... Brazilian...the ABSOLUTE worst experience EVER! Sonia wasn't there, even though they told me she would be. I HATE HATE HATE when shops, salons, etc do the bait and fake. Don't tell me someone will be available for my appt and when I show up give me a lame ass excuse as to why they are not. I swear this girl was terrible. Not only did it take an hour for something that usually takes 10 minutes tops, I had to assist her. It was my far the most painful brazilian ever. Now, for the good: My mani/pedi were WONDERFUL and my nail polish lasted 2 weeks...no lie. Moon-Ghe did my mani/pedi. Sonia finally showed up and did my eyebrows and gave me a mini-facial when I complained about the brazilian. She did a good job. I'm not saying I won'y go back b/c of the Brazilian wax from hell, but I will say I'm only letting Sonia and Moon-Ghe touch me when I go back. They are both currently out of the country. read more
