Fortunately for me the muscle relaxers were kicking in so I felt comfortable about my visit to Sonic. My biggest compliment goes to the staff! I got a hot dog but I like mine with extra ketchup so I was feeling aprehensive like many do. They didn't bat an eye. The car behind me was impressed with what they were able to do for me re: ketchup. I was encouraged by the amount of fries they gave the car in front of me so I went into "fries" mode too lol. Let's just say I was not dissapointed... I grabbed my food and strawberry shake and ate in the sun under a nearby tree. My next question is when can I start my own Sonic franchise further north. "Our bathrooms are both broken" but not apparently for the 3 white customers that used it before it was my turn then I and the Black girl after me were both denied admittance. When I asked for a manager Zack came out and said though it is is against the law to operate a restaurant with a dining room without a working restroom, he was "within his rights to do so". If you're in a hurry- DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION SPECIFICALLY. Ordered online and when upon arrival the instructions say to enter through the front. I did - waited 10 minutes in line when only 3 people were in front of me. Eventually got to the counter and they told me I had to pick up through the drive through. I asked then why is your instructions different? She said it's policy. I said IS IT POLICY AT EVERY LOCATION and why aren't there signs? She had no answer and repeated herself to go in the drive through. I went to the drive through and now I had to wait AN HOUR! A WHOLE 60 MINUTES IN THE DRIVE THROUGH WITH OTHER CARS WAITING FOR A PICK UP! And I came back to this place twice trying to give it another chance. The second time I just went directly to drive through and waited for 45 min in the drive though. Bottom line- this location is not worth the wait. At all. Especially when sitting in line and you see through the glass door all the orders waiting probably aren't warm anymore! Because mine was not warm. I hate doing this type of review but I guess if we paint a pretty picture regardless of the situation no improvement will take place. Let's start with some good. I don't frequent Sonic often but in the past when I did my only issue was the lack of staff. But even with the absence of a large number of people to man all of the stations the service was always okay. There not stellar but not horrible either, easy solution was always there. Now for the most recent visit. It still appeared to be understaffed but the difference is what soured this trip. I always agree with having a good time at work, hey I would have it no other way. The difference is you still have to conduct business in a professional manner. This was not what I observed this visit. The person taking orders inside was having an extra playtime with people in line. Bottom-line enjoy your work, have fun, laugh, dance if you want. But if you have a line of people please take their orders and get them on their way then you can play with your friends. read more

Decent fast food. Service is always a bit...off? Very hit or miss. Great people watching with a rather interesting mix of Uptown residents. Love the beverage selections, plus 44 ounce option is well, quite massive. Specials most days of the week, enjoy the fact they serve breakfast anytime they are open. read more

I uploaded the Sonic App this weekend and had no issues. The Slushie had become one of my go to's. Anyway, went out on 05/29/24 and decided to stop for a cool refreshment. Got a Banana Shake and what was supposed to be a Blackberry Slushie with Lime added. Something I had already ordered twice or .maybe three times, so I know how it should taste. Watery was what it was no lime to be found and the ice only had Blackberry in it and barely that. Had not tasted so when I found that there's nothing coming out of the straw I was like WHAT.....WHEN I TELL YOU THERE WAS A TASTEABLE DIFFERENCE AND DISTANTLY DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF THE JUICE USED!!! This is probably the least well run fast food restaurant I've experienced in Chicago. Not quite sure why they even wanted to be in Uptown... in fact I liked it better when it was just an empty lot. Every time Ive tried them there has been a problem, today I was given back the wrong change... an error in their favor, the girl had to go back in to get my correct change and my receipt.... and then never came back out. The food here is average at best and even on 50 cent corndog day its not really worth the aggravation, plus the fact that the corndogs are never hot and freshly made. Well I'm going to be brief just because I want to try to forget what is probably the worst meal of my life ( and I'm a senior). So you pull up and the place looks great, I couldn't wait to make my order. I knew I was in trouble when I saw there were seven cars lined up at the drive-thru at 2:30 in the afternoon on a weekday. The wait was even longer than I expected. I ordered 2 1/4 LB. double cheeseburgers($5 each). I don't think they could possibly weigh a quarter pound even with the bun. Neither of them were made properly having none of my chosen toppings except mustard. The meat was extremely thin and burnt. They were so dry i could only eat one.The onion rings($5.50!!!) tasted like they were fried in used krispy Kreme donuts oil. Disgustingly sweet onion rings. I ate three of the little ones. I ordered the new crinkly fries and they were okay but a little dry, but much thinner than I expected from the picture.Finally I got a footlong chili dog that I couldn't pull out of the (bag) It was in because it was stuck. After cutting open the closed end and biting into it all I tasted was salt, pure salt. Couldn't eat it. Well I guess I wasn't so brief here after all and I'm glad because people need to know THEY SHOULD AVOID THIS PLACE. I'm very angry because we put our trust in these people and then we get home and discover we have been cheated out of a lot of money ( these days) and get a terrible meal. Never got to fully appreciate Sonic when i was in Texas, but I do find it convenient, especially during happy hour to pickup drinks here. During the warmer weather lately it has been real fruit slushes. Seems here the choices are lemon or pineapple (at least from the menu)...other locations and website there are also strawberry, lime, lemonberry. Thought also from the website you could adjust how icy you wanted it...it seems on my latest visit the staff couldn't figure out how to do that through the register (or even understand how it would be done). (website says slushes are made with 50% ice unless otherwise requested) So you do wind up waiting for orders as it is made for you rather than self-serve at a convenience store. Happy hour from 2 -5 p.m. here makes your slush 50% off and there are some food specials too. read more

Ordered two Master Blasts from this location and instead of ice cream with chunks of fruit and oreos/chocolate, I received this blended to high hell, gloopy mess. When I contacted Grubhub and the restaurant, the Manager had the nerve to tell me they were "made correctly and that it's probably the driver's fault"......NO, they're not supposed to be in milkshake form. This sonic is the closest one to most people who live in Chicago. And it is the worst one I have been to. It takes forever to place an order, it takes forever for the food to arrive. And an added bonus is that the food is often cold or warm, because it has been sitting, waiting for it to be delivered. Sonic is my favorite of the fast food places, but I am not patronizing this store anymore. It is not exactly worth the drive out to Franklin Park to get a slushe. Why can't the company staff enough people? Surely they can afford it. Sonic is one of my absolute favorite fast food joints, and until two months ago, for the first time since 2013, I have one near home. Before that the closest one was a 2 hour drive. I've ordered from here twice in the last couple months, and it's been 1000% what I expected, even with delivery time being 45 minutes due to traffic and distance to my house. I went back for a couple more shakes since. I will say, the staff are really hardworking and friendly. But 1) they use cool-whip instead of whipped cream. Gross. 2) I ordered malted shakes both my 2nd and 3rd visit and they did not mix the malt in..it was just big, gross malty chunks. The PB Fudge I had the first time was still amazing, but the other flavors I've tried taste very chemically and not like ice cream at all. I usually don't take my time to review any of the major restaurant chains, but because of Sonic being such a rarity in the Chicagoland area (I believe there are only 2 around here), I decided to write a review for the Uptown location after grabbing some food this past Sunday. I want to call Sonic 'fast food', but because of how long it actually took me to get my food after I ordered it, it has no right to be labeled as such. It felt like an eternity until I got my meal. I was starving at the time, yes, but in actuality it did take a good 15-20 minutes for my order to arrive. So really, it did take much longer than expected. As for the food, it was so-so. I got that $5 chicken dinner special that was some average chicken strips, tots, a single onion ring and...some toast? The toast part was completely worthless and nothing but a filler portion of the meal that was lowkey offensive. I was better off ordering a burger or something, this was the lamest combo meal I ever ordered. I can't hate on Sonic too much because they have an extensive menu filled with all kinds of meals, drinks and shakes, but if you want to make your customers happy, you gotta step it up with the service. read more

WHAT? DUDE! When did Chicago get a Sonic? I have no idea or is this a mirage on Wilson. I am forced to watch all these fantastic Sonic TV commercials with the two Sonic dudes in the car talking about Sonic's food. When I'm watching these, I wanna be in the car with them. My wife and I were driving by this location and we might have sounded like those two guys in the commercial. First we both said, "What?" And then we saw a sign that said "Half price Cheeseburger Tuesday", as we drove by. We were both starving and needed some food, so I pulled a legal U-Turn (allegedly) and we headed back. It must have been faith. We don't eat fast food and I can't even remember the last time we actually went through a drive thru. We ordered two of the half price cheeseburgers specials. The girl working the drive thru was really nice. We even had a fumble on the bag hand off. She handed me the bag but I never had it and it fell straight down. I was a little embarrassed. I told you I haven't been to a drive thru in a long time. I guess it's not like riding a bike. You can forget! We both looked down as the bag hurled towards the ground with a look of fear in our faces. She immediately apologized. Luckily both burgers stayed in the bag. I opened the car door and collected our fumbled bag of burgers. I told her we were all good. It did start feeling like we were in a commercial or a hidden camera show. Go ahead and laugh at us but know this...we were about to have our Sonic Moment. We broke into the bag of burgers, as we drove to our appointment. The burger was really huge. It's regularly a $4 burger but with the deal it was now only $2. We hit the drive thru food lottery. It was a little messy to eat while driving because of all of the shredded lettuce falling off the bun. I did have the foil in my lap to collect any raining veggies. I did love all of the fresh veggies which included tomatoes and onions. We had them hold the mayo cause our arteries have no time for that. I enjoyed every single bite and the burger totally hit the spot. The thin burger patty was okay. I wish it was a little bigger. I did like the fact that the meat wasn't overly salty. I wouldn't call it gourmet but a good fast food burger. The scary part is I want to come back here every single Tuesday. I really want to make this a regular road trip but I'm thinking my wife is not on board with this plan. I am going to need to make some appointments on the North Side very soon. So if you find yourself in Uptown, then make a run to the Sonic. I was surprised at how yummy the burger was. I must admit this was my first trip ever to a Sonic and I'm glad I finally got to experience why those two dudes love the Sonic drive-thru so much. It's fun. Every time we ate there, both drive thru and dine in, was always fresh, hot and flavorful! This place serves great fast food that's real food, and did not disappoint us in their customer service. They offer so many different things on their menu. Great tasting food and The cheeseburger on toast is exceptional and a nostalgic memory from the past. Chili cheese dogs are ways a win, too and those simple, but totally addictive soft pretzels are simply the best. A definitely 5 Star rating. The workers have great attitudes. It's a nice place to go food is great whenever I get a day off I try to go there would definitely recommend the caramel classic shake with cheeseburger and chili cheese tots. The cheese burger was delicious. And excellent caramel shake and the chili cheese tots is crispy. I recently went to Sonic in Uptown (conveniently stationed next to a McDonald's) for a combo meal. This comes with a sandwich, either fries or tater tots, and a soft drink. I chose a bacon double cheeseburger, with cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo. The burger came out cold and flavorless, though it is a fairly hefty size. The bland pieces of bacon were like bacon chips, hardly tasting anything all like bacon. I ate half of this underwhelming burger at Sonic and decided to wrap up the rest of it to take home, where I drowned it with some BBQ sauce and that helped the flavor of the burger marginally. The tater tots were crispy but could have used some ketchup (I ate them up well before going home). The root beer was OK. Kudos to Sonic for the guy who really wanted to clean my table before I started my meal, and for the outdoor dining area where a young family had a giant furry dog with them. Otherwise my Sonic experience was mainly about the tater tots. read more

Randomly stumbling upon this Sonic in Chicago was a bit like finding a red herring. You see commercials for Sonic here everyday, yet this is their one location in Chicago? They're not setting a great standard for themselves here. I came at about 7pm on a Wednesday night, the place was empty except for some colorful characters by the street. We pressed the button and were informed someone would take our order in a second. Five minutes passed and I got impatient so I went inside and couldn't find a soul. A few shadows in the back told me someone had to be working here. Someone eventually took my order, begrudgingly, after emerging like I just walked uninvited into her home. I told her I'd be waiting in my car for my order. I had to describe my vehicle even though we were the only ones there. While waiting I saw two employees hanging around the back and they were soon joined by a third who stepped out yelling about how nasty a new product of theirs is. I had to ask what that product was in case I ordered it, but he assured me it wasn't ready for public consumption. They all wandered to the back of the dumpster, none of them carrying trash. So if you show up here and it's as empty as I found it, now you know they're all by the dumpster. Food was ok, but the atmosphere killed it. I'll save my Sonic stops for out of state trips to preserve the novelty I usually associate with this brand. read more

Well it's fast food so I wasn't expecting much... and I was underwhelmed. I've had Sonic a couple times since they opened one in N. Aurora near my Moms so it wasn't something I was holding my breath for. But a Cherry Limeade sounded amazing after working in the yard. (I'm writing this review two weeks late as it still sticks out in my head) The service was incredibly slow and there was an air of indifference from the people working. I don't think I was alone because there were tons of people looking impatient as they waited for their food. In the ten minutes I witnessed multiple people come back up to complain about the food or mixed up orders. Also, the person calling out orders barely spoke English and was very timid (i.e. you could hear her let alone understand her) The food was slightly below fast food standards. The burger was swimming in whatever Mayo/Sauce they use. I could not taste anything but the sauce. My main reason for going didn't disappoint, the Cherry Limeade was delicious. Worst customer service imaginable. They don't care if there's a line. They don't care what they say in front of you. They don't care if they make you wait interminably.
