Mando delivered our order to the car, and the service was outstanding. He greeted us with a genuine smile, was friendly, and carried himself with confidence and professionalism. Issue was payment at the Booth, I paid by card and the booth was giving me issues. Then my order vanished. I did get my order and when I asked the worker if my card payment went through she said yes, but I got no receipt and wasn't even offered one. My dirty dr people was off, and I got the wrong burger. just came here for the pickle-themed items! it was actually my first time at sonic so I didn't know what to expect. for one thing, I guess the rollerblading thing is a lie, they didn't rollerblade my food out to me LOL. but that's fine, not why I put 3 stars. firstly, the picklerita slush was absolutely delectable. Horrible customer service!! My boyfriend ordered 2 drinks in Route 44 size and got 2 large size. Now mistakes happen and we are never rude to start off with. We were eating and drinking our drink when I noticed the size and had him check to make sure he didn't make the mistake. Receipt showed Route 44. So we went back. I kept drinking my iced tea because I was thirsty and figured why wait. The employee did not like that I drank my tea and brought me out a small size saying here is the additional ounces that you would have gotten from the correct size. That already felt very petty. I then asked Sophia who claimed she was the manager of I could have my whole Route 44 of iced tea for the inconvenience of having to come back to deal with this. She then brought me out a Route 44 cup with only the 12 of tea in it. Again feeling super petty! My boyfriend didn't like us drink which was not their fault but we said no need to get a bigger size for him though as it would be wasteful, but asked if especially since we don't care about 1 of the drinks if the 2nd could just be done properly. She refused saying I shouldn't have had drank it. I honestly couldn't believe the lack of costumer service. I frequent fast food places and restaurants and mistakes are always made. The food is good, but the wait is long. Meals can take more than half an hour. I remember they used to have skaters delivers the food to the car, but did not see them when we went on Saturday during lunch hour. Although the wait was long, we still enjoy the outdoor patio with the warm breeze with our slush and biteable ice cube drinks. Came here on Halloween for the 50 cent corn dogs and this was before, or maybe even after, the dinner rush so there was no delay in getting our food when we pulled up to the curbside ordering next to the menus (our's was broken, but the hostess was nice enough to punch in a payment at one that was functioning) nor was there any wait when we went through the drive thru for some more snacks on the road. The corn dogs seem smaller than what I remember before at a different location, but no big deal since they were only 50 cents. Comes out piping hot. Standard corn dog. Went great with mustard. Was at this location on Saturday and what a good experience. I had been wanting to go to a sonic for quite a while, was on my way to the valley from Asuza and decided to make a pit stop here. Ordered a double burger with fries and a drink. The burger was delicious lol and really enjoyed my meal. The young worker who brought our food out was respectful and professional. Very attentive also. Hard to see that nowadays, especially with the younger kids. Wife and I ate in the car and we were nothing but pleased with our sonic burgers and fries. I've been coming here over ten years. Sadly, when I first started, I wasn't really into writing reviews, and even my check-in game left a lot to be desired; otherwise, I would surely have written my first review back in what many of us (I'm sure) refer to as the "Golden Age of Joel." Joel was a manager--I don't know his actual title, mind you, but he was in charge, and if he wasn't officially in charge, he *took* charge--and during his tenure, the Duarte Sonic ran like a well-oiled machine, if you'll pardon the cliché. Because of my fond memories of ages past, even after making Elite for the first time, I held off reviewing this place in the hopes they'd turn things around. Well, after my most recent three visits, I've decided to stop waiting and get to writing. The two saving graces of this location are the food and the old-school schtick. I'll start with the food. Sonic's food is its top appeal. They have simple and delicious burgers, hotdogs, and other classic staples of American fast/snack food. My old go-to before I swore off such foods was the footlong Chicago dog. Second to that, I'd get the footlong chili cheese dog. My kids absolutely love the mozzarella sticks. They no longer come in a massive family size (I do have four kids), but my kids tell me they are still as delicious as ever. That's five stars for the food. As for the atmosphere, there is no dine-in option here, so the car hop service schtick is the ambience. I like it. I haven't eaten in the stalls here for some time, but they still have the car stalls. Along with the menu packed with fun American fare, that's the appeal of Sonic. I'll give the atmosphere five stars, because they accomplish what they are going for here. It's a beautiful location and is regularly updated, which explains why they film so many Sonic commercials here. Now for the service. With few exceptions, even terrific food loses its value if the road to acquiring it is fraught with unpleasantness, but maybe that's just me. The quality of service at this Sonic has progressively slid. Six or more years ago, this was our go-to local fast food spot. We watched the 2016 DNC here while noshing on a massive meal in one of the drive-up stalls. Before that in 2013, we watched "The Day of the Doctor" Dr Who special here in much the same way. When we rolled up, we didn't order dinner: we ordered a feast. Service was as terrific as the food then. At some point, they changed management. I don't know whether it was a full change of management or not, but I do know that Joel was no longer there, and with his departure came a veritable seismic shift in terms of quality control, speed, and politeness. While the perfunctory "welcome to Sonic" greeting remains, all other aspects of customer service are gone. No "thank you." The "please" has been dropped in favor of a curt, possibly hostile command to "That it? Pull forward." These exchanges are from today's visit, but they are representative of nearly every visit we've had over the past few years, visits, I might add, which have become rarer and rarer as the level of service has declined. I am loathe to give negative reviews, but at some point, I would be doing my fellow Yelpers a grave disservice if I were to abstain. One star for service. I want to love this place like in the past. At the end of the day, consistently bad service demands change, and effective change must come from the top. I hope Duarte Sonic can reverse this trend. I'll be here if it does.
