The kids love this place. I've gotten used to the location even though it's pretty far from the freeway. The kids love the different type of hot dogs, slushies, and shakes. Slushies with Nerds or Popping Candy. (Pop Rocks?) The Grillled Chicken is pretty good too. I give it a +1 for the Shakes and Slushies. My girl and I have been dreaming of the day when Sonics would comes to the bay area. Not because we like fast food, but because the chain has played a role in our childhood/adult memories in Texas. I finally saw one when driving up Mission Blvd yesterday. Excited, I decided to surprise my girl with a late night trip for a root-beer float and cheesy-jalapenos. We took the 20 minute drive to the spot and arrived at 9:35p. Pulling up to the Sonics, we were very excited, finally a drive in experience in the greater bay area. We looked at the menu and pushed the order button at 9:45p. It blinked and flashed for 5 full minutes, with me pushing the button several times to place our order. I heard them taking the order of the car to our left (which came after us) and thought we were on hold to place our order. Finally at 9:50, a voice came over the intercom stating "were closed, drive-thru only". They had closed the drive-up portion 10 minutes early, despite the dozens of cars waiting to order. Sonic employees were still zipping around us delivering food. So reluctantly, we went through the drive-thru (with the numerous other cars that got turned away at the same time) and after waiting in a long line, found that they were out of the snack we came there to eat. Instead of getting our favorite Texas treat, We decided to order a root-beer float and a number 16 meal. This was thoroughly confusing to the person taking the order. I had to convince here that there was a #16 meal on their menu and repeat my drink order 4 times "LARGE ROOT BEER FLOAT". While waiting to reach the window, I continued to see Sonic employees zipping around delivering food, which was a bit aggravating, as they were delivering to cars that had come after us. I finally got to the window, paid for the order and received our food. Instead of a large float, I received a small (which further pissed me off). Upon pulling away from the window, it immediately came to my attention that they had not even put on the lid correctly (not at all) and I now had a lap full of float on my $200 Rock and Republic jeans and my brand new Mercedes, literally weeks old. Doing something very unusual for me, I got out of the car and contacted the manager. After explained the situation, he said " so what do you want ME to do for you"? Like I was inconveniencing him for bringing up the issue. In the end, he gave me a new float and "the best thing on the menu", a chicken sandwich on Texas toast (which WAS tasty :-). All in all, this was a 100% disappointing experience. For sentimental reason alone, I will give them one more shot, but thought that my fellow Yelpers should know about this experience, which now ranks as THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE EVER HAD AT A FAST FOOD RESTURANT. read more

I've had the cheeseburger, french fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, ice-cream cone, and the Mocha Caramel Java Chiller. This place is fun and exciting because of the drive-in and roller skates, especially if you are a first timer. Their onion rings are really good and the rings are pretty big. French fries aren't the size you'd expect them to be, order a size larger to get the size you want and they taste like Burger King fries. The food is fairly good but the drinks and desserts are probably better. The Mocha Caramel Java Chiller is too sweet. I ordered a medium and the drink actually looks like a larger. Went to this relatively new location. The wait staff in roller blades, being able to eat in the car etc are all still kinda cool but the food is still bad. Way too much salt in everything from the Coney (chilli hot dog) to the tots. I showed up here for dinner around 8:15 PM last Saturday night. I was very fortunate in my timing, as there was no line for the drive-thru and I was able to pull right up to where the order is placed. I ordered the chicken strips meal, and was asked if I wanted the 3-piece or 5-piece. I also ordered a blue raspberry ice cream slush (because it's pretty much the best thing I've ever gotten from Sonic). I paid for my meal, got the food and drove back home. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box for my chicken strips meal and inside the box I found 16 mozzarella sticks. Where's my food??? I called the phone number listed online for Sonic, but no one answered. I called nine different times that night -- no answer. I bit into a cheese stick. Meh. It lacked flavor, is NOT what I wanted (and who eats 16 of them?!?) and I couldn't help but gag every time I bit into one and water(?)/grease(?)/whatever gushed out. Fast forward five days. I've called Sonic over and over, at many different times of the day. No answer. I tried to get a conversation going with them about this on Twitter. No reply. Do they not care about their customers?
