I ordered 2 sonic bacon cheeseburger meals. They forgot the hamburger patty in one of them! One came with a burger patty and one without. I tried calling them to complain but no one would answer the phone. I read below that the cashier told someone that the bacon cheeseburger doesn't come with a hamburger patty, but that can't be true because for one, the picture on the menu shows the burger with a hamburger patty and two because I called the corporate customer service line to complain and they said it should have come with a burger patty. Also, I ordered 2 of the same burgers and one came with a patty and the other didn't. If they are claiming the bacon cheeseburger doesn't come with a patty then this franchise is CHEAP!! I really used to like Sonics, but don't anymore. Maybe it's just this particular location. The food is terrible and very low quality. The only items this place is good for is dessert and drinks. The tater tots are good as well. This place does not live up to the hype. Sometimes the food isn't even hot! I'm especially upset with this location because for the second time my debit card has been charged incorrectly! The last time it happened, the charge was pending but didn't clear so not a big deal. This time it cleared so now I have to take time out of my busy schedule to call the manager or my bank to get my money back. So frustrating. What's wrong with their machines or employees. I really hope there aren't employees at this location involved in fraudulently charging people's cards. Get this issue fixed immediately! read more

Over-rated and gimmicky. Burgers are sub-par and blah; hot dogs are long but nothing special. Breakfast is inferior to McDonald's. Milkshakes are better at in-n-out or Val's in Castro Valley. The only things on the menu that are worth ordering are the jalepeno poppers and the onion rings. The area/plaza is also pretty ghetto and dimly lit at night, so go for lunch. LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS. Great place! Use to come here all the time when I lived in Hayward for their limeades. Their cherry limeade is the bomb.com! And the best part is that you can add almost any kind of flavor to your drinks. Even chocolate. Although personally I have yet to try it. Sounds kind of gross. Their tator tots are to die for! If you have a toddler in your life, you know that taking them out to eat at a restaurant can be less than relaxing. Sonic Drive-In just established itself as the perfect date night for parents with toddlers. For the first time since our little bundle of boy joy was born 2.5 years ago, my husband and I could actually: 1) eat our meals a the same time - and finish them, and 2) sustain a conversation! It was completely satisfying and wonderful and the sweet, skating server who brought us our meals and made sure we had plenty of napkins made it all the better. Park on the Mission Boulevard side and you have a lovely view of the Fremont hills and *BONUS* the steady stream of cars and trucks moving along Mission Boulevard provided enough entertainment for the toddler to be content, strapped into his carseat and working on his corn dog, for the duration of our meal. When he started getting restless - Boo Yah - "Here, Lil Man, enjoy this great new toy that came with the kids meal!" Thank you Sonic for a fantastic spot for date night. I really am fond of the cute little roller staff. I'm a former rollergirl myself. valle vista forever baby! My last quick little visit was for a treat for my little. He was famished and it was hot so I figured ohhh la la a cherry slushie will perk up my handsome little man. I was very unpleased with the cashiers attitude when I pulled up to the window. She seemed to have a snarl on her face instead of a smile and everyone knows service with a smile is key! It's about time they put a Sonic in the Bay Area. The closest Sonic to me was all the way in Tracy and to be honest, the place is good but not THAT good. So to have a Sonic closer to my house takes the driving factor out of the equation for picking a spot to eat for a quick meal. My friend told me a couple of days ago that a Sonic just opened in Hayward and my first reaction was to hop in the car and drive there asap. But as he sensed the excitement in the air and heard the jingles of my keys he also informed me that the lines were ridiculous! As stubborn as I was I thought about it, swallowed my pride and decided to go in a couple of days when the line at Sonic starts to die down. My girl and I had a day off today and decided on going there. When we arrived there were cones and signs in the shopping area's parking lot guiding you to the main entrance to the Sonic drive threw/eating here line. There were a few cars in line, about 5 but luckily they were all in line for the drive threw. I got to the front of the line and an employee at the front of the line told me there was a spot around the corner. I parked and with a big smile ordered our first meal at the Sonic in Hayward. My girl and I both got the #5 (Bacon cheeseburger w/ a onion ring on toasted bread), tater tots and a coke. My girl was a little more excited than I was and wanted to order more sides so we ended up getting a large chicken popcorn and mozzarella sticks. We sat and waited literally for about 5 mins and got our food (pretty quick!). The food is good and personally, I like it a little bit more than Jack In The Box, McDonald's or Burger Kings food. They have a big menu with tons to eat and drink. Scan the menu and don't miss the stuff that doesn't have a picture because there are tons of things on the menu that I missed and wished I should have got. Overall, the employees are friendly and the food is good. Sonic gets a substandard review because a couple things that kind of made me unhappy at lunchtime. Ok, I get it, this is a drive-in diner and it's about experiencing the feel of sitting in your car, ordering some food from a menu box, etc. What I did not like was their lack of signs to communicate helpful information. For example, I did not want to do the drive-in deal so I walked to what appeared to be the entrance to their building. As I opened the door, I had to stop just almost immediately after taking one step inside because it was like I was walking into the back of a fast food joint's behind-the-counter area. I slowly stepped back out and looked for a sign to let me know whether the entrance was for employees only. I look around and notice some patrons sitting at a table in the patio area. I walk over there because I see a bigger order menu box, look at the value meals, press the red "press button to order" button but no answer. As I was patiently waiting for someone to answer after pressing the button again. These two dudes walk up to the other side of the menu box order thing and they press their red button, get an answer, place their order, and sit themselves down at a nearby table! What the heck?! I'm standing there wondering what the heck happened to my red button? I pressed it more than once but to no voice asking me to place my order. i pressed it again and nothing. The damn thing is broken! So, I walk back to that unlabeled door to tell them that I had been standing there pressing the red order button but no one answered and these two guys come up, press their red button, and get an answer. The female employee replies "Where were you standing? Bt that one on the other side? Yeah, it's broken and there should be a sign saying it's not working." No sign. No helpful sign at all. By far the worse Sonic I've been to. Ordered ahead and checked into a station booth only to watch multiple cars receive their food, EAT and leave before us, despite arriving there after us. Granted it was busy- but we waited 30 minutes until we finally had to paige them to ask about our order. 15 minutes later they brought the food out but forgot one bag. We had to paige them again for them to finally bring out our entire order. No apologies, no "thank you for waiting" nothing. Waited 45-55 minutes for food that was cold. This location is garbage. It wasn't too busy when I went in the drive thru around the afternoon. I gotta say that the service here is very friendly and patient! The workers were very welcoming to serve me and the food was so fresh and good. The orders I got from here are the chicken tenders, burgers, and shakes. The shakes are a classic and it's definitely recommended to try some! Surprisingly, the drive-thru line wasn't too bad and it went by pretty quick. Today was the grand opening of this Sonic Drive In in Hayward. Had a SuperSonic Cheeseburger (aka a double cheeseburger), and chocolate shake and tator tots chili & cheese. The chocolate shake was delicious, a solid A. The tator tots chili cheese were good too, except for being too skimpy on the chili (they were mostly tots with melted cheese but with maybe a tablespoon of chili. Still the overall flavor was fine, so would give it a B+. The major disappointment though was the double cheeseburger (SuperSonic Cheeseburger). There was nothing super about it. It had two wide but wafer thin beef patties (must have been less than 1/4 of beef) that had very little beef flavor to them. You tasted mostly the bun. Nor was the lettuce or tomatoes of high quality. A pretty mediocre burger. Maybe better than a Big Mac, Whopper, or Jumbo Jack, but definitely below that of Carl's Six-Dollar Burger, or an In-N-Out Double-Double. Nation's Giant Hamburgers nor In-N-Out Burger have nothing to fear. Their burgers are vastly superior in every way to Sonic's. I'll probably stop again at Sonics, but I'll skip their regular burgers and focus more on their shakes, tots, desserts, and other soft drinks. read more

Let me start by saying that I was one of those folks who grew up going to Sonic back east and I was one of the first to get way too excited when I heard that they would be building one in Hayward. I tried to downplay my excitement with rationalizations and tell myself it won't be the same, but it was still exciting to go for the first time. I arrived and saw a compact and sleek modern version of my childhood eatery and found a parking spot rather quickly. I explained the menu to my partner and we ordered shortly thereafter. Despite a mistake with my debit card the food came quickly and we were able to resolve the card issue without much problem. I ordered way too much but that is normal when I am excited. I unpacked everything and lined it up across the dash. I took a bite and soon realized what I was in for. This was more of a fast food version of a favorite hometown institution. A compromised vision of cold hamburgers and odd tasting chili. While the drinks were decent and nothing was too bad, it just left me missing the taste of the original. Everything was decent and all, but I sure could use a real chocolate coke and sonic burger. The carhops are super nice here and they work really hard so bring a little cash and please tip yours accordingly. I mean throw the poor kid in roller skates a buck or two, they've earned it rolling back and forth all day. Literally 4 times in a row they don't have milkshakes , are out of mozzarella sticks or their card reader isn't working and they only take cash. Pros: Drive in: One of the only places you can order food and dine in your car without being judged, yesss! Drinks: There are plenty of ways you customize your drink. Sonic is an overrated hot mess. We use to stop by the one in Tracy on the way to my parent's house in Stockton, thus keeping the novelty of it all. Sonic's is good, but it's not THAT good. Came and ordered a milkshake and a worker named Adrian brought it out to me. When they asked if I was paying cash or card, I responded with "yes sir," briefly noticing the short haircut and masculine sounding name, not putting too much thought into the interaction. Adrian then proceeded to question my response to their question with "Are you sure I am a sir? Like, are you certain?" I noticed a hint of aggression in their tone, which definitely came across as rude and entitled, as if they were accusing me of maliciously assuming their gender when I was simply trying to be polite with them. So after being inundated for years with Sonic commercials, my bf and I finally managed to get ourselves there, once we realized there was a location open in Hayward. Yaaay! To start, it seems like it's in an out of the way area of Hayward, but to be honest anything that is not directly on the Auto Row is out of the way to me. I expected a longer line and more people, given that it was a Saturday night, but I guess we lucked out and missed the rush by a mile. It was nearly dead. We ordered and we served within 7 minutes, which is better than some other fast food restaurants I've patronized. We have no real complaints about the food. I got a Grilled Chicken Wrap, he got a Chicken Bacon Ranch on Texas Toast combo, and a large order of Popcorn Chicken (with which they only gave us 1 sauce for dipping *frowny face*). The fries were lackluster - but whaddyaexpect? It's fast food. Since they were basic orders we had basic expectations that were met. Total: 18 bucks - eh. The drinks were the best part of the meal.
