Drove up for drinks and felt like I went back in time. Every spot was filled with trucks and teenagers. Amazing people watching! Lemonade, slushees and milkshakes along with burgers, hotdogs and fries. There is definitely a nostalgic feeling to Sonic. It brings back memories of college and late night milkshakes. Except the servers no longer skate to your car. Go for a greasy burger and a slushee and enjoy.

Sonic Drive-In on Folly Road on James Island is a really good place to get a quick meal and a good drink. I like the drive in concept, but I usually get out of my vehicle to get some more air. The food here is delicious and the service is really fast and efficient for all that they do. I have been happy with all of the orders that I have made here throughout the years I have been coming here. This Sonic is awesome and a reliable destination when you are hungry.

Even though they advertise that they are open until 11pm.... they are not. Don't waste your time if you are wanting a late night meal.

The drive thru at this location is pretty slow, especially at night and on the weekends.

Stopped in with the kids, it was really far out of our way but it turned out to be worth the drive…read more Our server (I think she said her name was Alex) was awesome. Style inside is an eclectic mixed of different styles. We started with the fried pickles which I usually like but these were t quite to my taste. Just a personal preference thing, I feel like the pickles inside were more of a deli style pickle than an off the shelf super briny dill? But still good. I had the Getting Smash Burger which I really enjoyed, and the burger sauce (I think just ketchup and mayo) fit perfectly. My kids loved their burgers and fries. My onion rings were the big chunky kind which I like. We all left room for dessert and I am glad I did. The donut ice cream that my daughter had looked super unique. My pecan pie was the first time I've had in a long time that didn't just taste like corn syrup and fake vanilla flavor. Really nice place! J.Ja

Shawn, my server, brought it out in such short time that I was shocked. Service 10:10 Food 9:10 There's plenty of room to sit and they have a great outdoor seating area. You simply must drop in. I was kind of surprised how the Harlow on James Island has stayed under the radar…read more This neighborhood restaurant and bar is loaded with charm and perhaps some of the friendliest staff around. They are a burger/oyster bar with a diverse menu that has unique offerings. As far as I know this is the only true oyster bars on the Island. There are plenty of restaurants that serve raw oysters but no with a wide-ranging selection of oysters from various locales. I don't care for raw oysters myself, but I saw a lot being served. We started with cocktails with my wife ordering the "Don't Call It a Skinny" with Tequila, Guava, Lime, Agave, and Lime Salt. They say try it spicy if you are feeling feisty and she was. The drink was light with a wonderful back heat on the end. I enjoyed the Smoked Praline Sour with rye, hazelnut, Montenegro, praline, citrus and bitters with a nice smoke for added flavor. It tasted just like a praline, and I had a tough time getting it back after my wife had a try, We ordered some fried oysters Buffalo style with a ranch sauce for dipping. Being an oyster bar they were very fresh and full of flavor. Our favorite starter was the popular Jam Jar with ricotta cheese and seasonal jam with toasty bread. The jam was tomato and our server gave us a great pro-tip. Empty the bowl it comes in and dump the contents of the jar then swirl the two together then spoon it up on the bread. It was absolutely delicious and can't be missed! We decided to get a couple of burgers which are a mixture of brisket, chuck and short rib. I got the Harlow burger which has American Cheese, Comeback Sauce, Pickles, and Shredded Lettuce. I was pleased that instead of a smash burger which everyone seems to do these days, it was a thick juicy burger. It was so juicy I needed to wipe my hands and mouth after each bite. The comeback sauce was unique and definitely added to the spectacular flavor I was experiencing. Poe's used to be my thick burger go to and they have been dethroned! My wife chose the Southern Roots with Bacon, Pimento, Shredded Lettuce, and Pickled Green Tomatoes. It was obvious that the pimento cheese was homemade and packed with cheesy goodness. The fries were perfect burger fries being neither steak nor shoestring but just perfectly crispy and light, similar but better than McDonalds in every way. Zach, the general manager came over to chat for a bit and offer us a complimentary cocktail to try. The Section 112 was Bourbon, tarragon, preach, bitters, and a streusel foam. They purposely leave out a straw so that you taste that foam with each sip. I couldn't have had a better time. Friendly service that was top notch. Drinks that were creative as well as fulfilling and food that will linger in my collective memories for a long time. You need to make a reservation as they are so popular that walk ins may have a tough time.

The Southern General was a great Yelp find just outside of Kiawah Island! From what we heard, the…read morerestaurant recently changed ownership, and the new chef is doing a fantastic job. This is definitely more of a hole-in-the-wall local spot -- not fancy at all -- but the food was really good and such a nice break from the expensive resort-area restaurants. My husband ordered the fish and chips. It wasn't a super traditional fish and chips because the batter was a little different than expected, but the fish itself was delicious. In fact, it was good enough that he brought the leftovers home and finished them the next day. We also tried the coconut shrimp appetizer. Again, not your typical coconut shrimp presentation, but very tasty. I ordered a club sandwich, which actually wasn't on the current menu anymore but had been on the old menu. They were happy to accommodate the request, which I really appreciated. One daughter got the handmade gnocchi with shrimp and absolutely loved it, and my other daughter ordered the sloppy joes and cleaned her plate. And if you love sweet tea like we do... just know their sweet tea is SWEET. Overall, definitely worth leaving Kiawah Island for good, reasonably priced food in a relaxed local spot.
