Substantial portions although the brisket burger and catfish sandwiches are not so big with price to match. The brisket burger in appearance looks just like a hamburger as the meat is minced. The place has a cool bar area and then a separate restaurant section to dine in or take out. Super fast and friendly service! I only had an hour to have lunch during a training and found Martin's was nearby! Got my food super fast and it was delicious! I got the pork shoulder platter. For sides I got the hushpuppies and baked beans. Their house bbq sauce was a little too spicy for me but the meat didn't really need much. To be honest, I was a little nervous when the school let us know we would be required to eat somewhere they chose on the overnight field trip. I am so very picky about where I eat and make sure to check food scores often but Martin's had an excellent score which put my mama heart right at ease! My favorite barbecue restaurant in the Charleston metropolitan area. Their chicken is so tender and tasty and they have some awesome sides!

Ordered on a work trip to Charleston and opted for takeout, which may have impacted my overall experience but, I have certainly experienced better BBQ than what I found at Martin's. The meat, lacked that signature 'smoked' flavor and tender texture that I'm so accustomed to from Southern BBQ. The sauces were also a letdown; they tasted more like a mixture of various store-bought sauces rather than anything with unique or balanced flavors and didn't complement the meat. It felt like it missed the mark entirely. I ordered two sides which proved to be an unnecessarily frustrating experience. The allergies/ingredients weren't included on the menu. I don't (obviously) need a full ingredients list but, would like to know which items included Pork and had to hunt for over 20 mins online to find and/or verify which sides had bacon etc. The staff was polite and quick but, also seemed unsure of what sides had pork and/or bacon byproduct. I mayyyyyy come back and dine-in during a less chaotic time which might help enhance the meal as the vibes and prices are def in the right place but, not sure if I can handle another bland brisket heartbreak. read more

This was our 2nd of 3 BBQ joints while visiting Charleston and Folly Beach for the summer. Also the best. As a South Texas native they blew me away with their beef brisket and their smoked turkey. The sauce was bold and spicy. The beans were as well. The corn bread came in the shape of a flap jack which was odd, but unique. Awesome outdoor seating area and bar. Loved visiting Martin's! We visited on a Wednesday evening and were able to find a table for 4 (there was also the option of going to the left at the entrance and visiting the bar). You order at the counter and bring a number to your table so the staff knows where to bring the food. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and our meals were served quickly. I ordered the Pulled Pork Shoulder Sandwich which comes with 1 choice of side (I chose Fries) and shared it with someone who got the Sliced Turkey Tray which comes with the choice of 2 sides (they chose Mac & Cheese and Broccoli Salad). I ordered pork, baked beans and Cole Slaw. The service was friendly and fast. There was a roomy indoor dining area and large outdoor patio area for football games or additional seating. The BBQ was delicious. Very tender, juicy with nice smokey flavor. The baked beans were so good. Spicy flavor with peppers and bits of BBQ pork mixed in! The cole slaw was creamy and crunchy with lots of flavor. I will come back again for this delicious BBQ. The beans...omg! I put them on my sandwich. They tasted smoky, spicy and delicious. I ate way too many baked beans, y'all. The coleslaw was crunch, creamy and a bit sweet. The perfect compliment to the BBQ and beans. Prices were very reasonable. The staff was laid back and super friendly. I had my carry out within 5-10 mins. I did take a look around to see what dining in would be like. They have a fun sports bar with lots of TVs and seating- very spacious for game day or when extra seating is needed. James island's best bbq - take that as you may. Food was good, got the pulled pork and baked beans, which were a generous portion and well worth the price. There were 4 types of bbq sauce to try, and 3 of the 4 tasted super vinegar-y. The mustard sauce was a great combo of flavors with the vinegar undertones. I left feeling satisfied but not overstuffed. The highlight of Martin's is definitely the vibe - the flow of the restaurant/ordering made sense and definitely didn't interfere with the bar space.
