If I could give negative 5 stars i would. Waited 15 minutes and simply no one took my order. I go to the drive thru for another 5 and it doesn't even budge. I check the reviews on this place and low and behold they have a staggering average of 2 stars!! I'm blown away at how useless the staff must be. I work in food service so I understand a wait if it's busy but there were 2 cars in the drive thru and no one in the pull in spots. Insanity. I'd give a rating on the food if i ever got to try it. Terrible service. Went 10 minutes between close time for just an order of mozzarella sticks. Guy gets on speaker and tells me that they closed the kitchen because everyone already went home, and that they only can make slushees or ice cream now. Ridiculous. Number one they have signs all over saying dining room is closed. We stopped there because my son wanted a Cherry Limeaid. We had to go thru the drive thru. The service was horrible. I made a yelp account purely to leave a review about the smithfield location and how abysmal the service was here. After waiting at stall #7 for 30 minutes and pressing the button four different times, we decided to go through the drive through. Our order consisted of 4 items and a drink, which i would typically not order that much food in a drive through but was forced to since no one would answer the drive up stall. As I said my order, the worker taking my order SIGHED at me and told me with attitude to pull up. When I received my order, items were missing out of the bag that we were charged for and one item was completely missing from our receipt and bag. I drove up at 11:15 to order a shake (they close at midnight) and when I placed my order I was told the machines were down and they couldn't make any shakes. I know for certain they weren't busted because it was working properly early in the evening and the following afternoon right when they opened. This was clearly because the closing staff didn't want to stay late to clean and shut them down early. This isn't how you should run a business. Not only are you disrespecting customers but you're losing money. If the machine was busted, a sign would've been put on the menu or it would've been mentioned before placing the order. Also, the previous time I went there one afternoon there was nobody in line before me or at a stall and it took nearly 8 minutes for a medium banana while I could hear 3 employees carrying on a casual conversation. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. I have became a regular at this location for about two months. Last night I went, and I am appalled. My burger was bit into, and had everything that I didn't ask for on it. On top of that, the door to the establishment in the back was open. All I saw was nothing but garbage, and dirty floors. A worker was smoking weed outside by the drive through. The employees are unprofessional. Drive thru worker had her uniform shirt cropped and her stomach was hanging out. 2 Stars, because it tastes good and the food is sanitary... I won't leave bad reviews until I give the place more than one chance. I've had 4 experiences here that I can remember. 1) Opening day. I ordered 3 shakes. It took an hour, half of that after I ordered. I figured it was busy. And the place was new. 2) We ordered several hot dogs for everyone at home on half-price hot dog day. Noticed they only took off the first one. Called within 2 hours. Was told by the manager that too much time had passed and they couldn't help us. After calling headquarters we got a discount coupon. We just wanted half priced hot dogs... Lots of time on the phone to be talked down to for nothing. 3) I took my son and his friend for dinner. The wait was long but the food was good. It's ok. 4) Tonight. I got there for half-priced shakes. I ordered 2 medium shakes (1 plain, 1 master blast), and a small limeade. It took 17 (yes. SEVENTEEN!) minutes from placing our order to receiving it! The story we received was that a new guy was making shakes and dropped all the drinks not once, but twice. I wish that I felt this was an anomaly, but I'm thinking not so much... I've been to other Sonics (VA,TN,OH) and this one just doesn't run like the others. Maybe it will improve someday. This location is AWFUL. So many bad experience at this sonic. A few weeks ago I waited over an hour and a half for a drink and a pretzel because I ordered online, went into a stall, and waited for it to be brought out but turns out they were doing drive though only so after waiting 30 minutes I had to go sit in the drive through for an hour and wait. That was my first truly bad experience at this location. Today, I went to get a cranberry limeade and when I got it, the sprite they use in it was out of syrup. We told the girl on the speaker and asked if she could remake it (assuming she would switch out the syrup). No problem she said yes and brought out another drink. I got my second (remade) drink and it tastes just as bad as the first. It tastes like seltzer water with a hint of cranberry. If a customer tells you that the machine is out of syrup, do not just give them another drink again without replacing the syrup in the machine, like hello? how stupid can one be??? read more

Sad what has happened to this Sonic location. I have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. I was in the mood for a shake tonight so I figured the half price after 8 deal would hit the spot. No one is acknowledging me and I was really confused why I'm sitting here for now over 20 minutes for a drink. She starts handing me all sorts of stuff and I'm like it was just two shakes. She says "oh f%$%" and turns around to where my shakes had been done this whole time. I was completely forgotten about and she actually thought it was acceptable giving me these nasty melted sloppy drinks that were sitting on the counter for 25 minutes. I pull into the drive in and ask to speak to a manager. A worker comes out who isn't management and rudely tells me they've had 20 minute tickets all day so oh well. My issue wasn't the wait..I'm very patient and polite.I had a problem with my shake melting and turning sour due to their ignorance of leaving me hangin, but she was too illiterate to understand that. I asked for a refund and refused to drink that sick looking drink. She made no effort to make another shake, there was no apology. Horrible attitude and zero f's given. We had a 14th birthday party yesterday for my son and Lexi went above and beyond to help make it a great party! We placed a pretty good size catering order with specific instruction for a variety of items and she did a great job! The kids loved having a choice or burgers, mozzarella sticks, hotdogs, pretzels, popcorn chicken etc and everything was individually wrapped so they could grab and go and continue to have fun! It was great to not have to stand over a grill all day! She even packed all of the condiments in little special birthday boxes! Even the parents enjoyed the food! I came here expecting the worst and ended up pleasantly surprised. Most of the 1 and 2 star reviews sounded the same. Long lines, long wait, mediocre fast food. Some of that was correct, but overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all. There were open bays and we went right into the drive through. It took us a while to figure out what to get, as the menu is quite extensive in terms of choices, flavors, options and add-ins. The order came up on the screen so we knew it was correct, the young lady taking the order was very pleasant, although she appeared to have trouble hearing us through the speaker. The food came very quickly. Really fast. Shockingly so. So much so, we thought they had the wrong order. But no. It was correct. All of it. No straws, however. And no pen for the credit card we used to pay (for convenience). The chicken strips were good, nice size pieces of chicken and tasted pretty good, not over breaded or too salty. They came with "Texas toast", which was more toast than Texas, regular grilled bread. The tots were OK. Somewhat bland. The onion rings were very bland and disappointing. The star of my meal was a terrific vanilla shake. Really tasty. Real ice cream, milk and cream. Very thick. You could get an aneurysm trying to suck it through the straw at first. My son had strips and fries. The fries were quite good. Crispy, salty and tasty. My daughter had a cheeseburger, tots and rings. The cheeseburger was average for a fast food restaurant. Real beef. Similar to Wendy's, but bigger. All portions were good sized and decently priced for the amount of food you get. Overall, it was a somewhat pleasant surprise from what I was expecting. I wouldn't go out of my way to come again, but I certainly wouldn't avoid it either. read more
