I am giving a 3 stars because the combo meal was rung up al carte. I have been here in like 20 years. I had it picked up so can't say about service. Ambiance is outdoors the one in Wallingford no skates like back in the day. My order was an all American Beef Hot Dog combo comes with a soda did not substitute it with the slushy that's okay but as a combo that means to me one price. Well the hot dog had a price, the fries had a price and the slushy had a price $15 a bit disappointed for a returning customer after so many years.... Service was fine. Food was not prepared well. Table area was not clean. I know they are serving people in the cars mainly but if you offer tables and I have to bring cleaning supplies from my trunk you have fallen short. The chicken sandwich was rubbery and hard and the bun was stale. Lettuce was a day past prime. The onion rings had a weird vanilla flavor probably fried in the same oil as a dessert item. Inedible. They overcooked the chicken tenders. The smashburger was good. The Oreo cheesecake blizzard was mixed too much so it had none of the pieces you want in a blizzard type shake. I first had sonic in Texas and found my favorite fast food. I fell in love with their cherry limeade. I bug my parents daily when I visit to go to Sonic. Now I don't have to bug as much since Sonic migrated north to good ok Connecticut. I'm in addition to my cherry limeade I enjoy the tator tots with plain or chili cheese. The best combo! Today I opted for the chili cheese fries. Staff are friendly and greet customers with a cheerful hello and deep apologies if something is out. Love hearing that southern hospitality up here in the north. Nick was my gracious car hop and delivered my food with a smile. I went to the drive thru this morning in hopes of getting a coffee and a breakfast burrito. I was told they were all out of hot coffee. But they had cold brew. I ordered the cold brew.It was disgusting and I asked them to throw it away. It is made with ice cream and a cold brew syrup. The syrup flavor was extremely strong. I honestly could not drink it at all. Unsure if others may like it, but it is not cold brew coffee. The burrito took a while because it's fresh to my understanding. It tasted good. they could've made me coffee in the amount of time. I waited honestly. They don't really have any vegetarian options so breakfast I could go there and I do like a fresh breakfast burrito. My first and probably last time at a sonic. First let me say the staff were extremely nice and friendly however I waited an hour for our food and had to get a refund because they are under staffed. The place was so busy on a Sunday at 6pm that many cars left without ordering. I ordered 3 meals and another person ordered only a slushy and was waiting 45 minutes. The food quality has gone down hill over the years. I absolutely loved this place when it first opened now the food and service is unacceptable. I ordered an Oreo milkshake and all I could see was thick vanilla and the Oreo pieces were close to non existent. I was intrigued by the commercial about this red, white and blue drink? It's blue shush, vanilla soft serve topped with strawberry sauce. I tried the strawberry and was disappointed by lack of flavor, tried the soft serve and it had a semi gritty texture, was weird, then tried the slush and once again was disappointed by lack of flavor. Then I mixed it all together and it was like I was David Copperfield, this drink all of a sudden became delicious! It is an extremely strange drink, when mixed it still was blue, red and white not mixed but mixed. Don't know how to explain it except you have to try it. I've been to this Sonic twice, and each time it was a good experience: easy to get a spot, easy to provide my order to the talking computer next to the car, easy to pay (once it dawned on me the talking screen had a place for a credit card), and the food arrived promptly with the carhop. It's definitely a step above your regular fast food, and the ice cream was the best - there was an M&M in every bite! Of course, only 3 flavors, vanilla, chocolate & strawberry. Sonic, however, hasn't held true to the tradition of simple and has branded itself more on technicolor iced sugar drinks & shakes aimed at pleasing the younger crowd. After no response we assumed maybe the machine was busted, so we tried the drive thru. We should have just left. I don't know what was going on there, but the drive-thru was even worse. There was one car in front of us, just one, and we sat for a total of 30 minutes including waiting to order, and getting our food. We could see employees just goofing around inside, it didn't appear anyone was actually DOING anything.
