What happens when you let your kids order!
    Heather C.

Sonic is one of those places that always hits the spot when you're craving classic drive-in food. We usually order the cheeseburgers with jalapeños, and they never disappoint. The burgers are juicy, the jalapeños add just the right amount of tang and heat, and everything tastes fresh. The corn dogs deserve their own shoutout. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or a snack. They're always a favorite in our car. But if you've never tried the Ocean Water, you're missing out. It's refreshing, a little nostalgic, and somehow tastes even better on a warm Kapolei afternoon. It's become a must-order every visit. The only downside right now is the wait time, but honestly, that's just because it's the newest spot in town and everyone wants to check it out. I'll be happy once the excitement settles down a bit because the lines have been pretty outrageous. Even so, the food has been worth the wait every time. Friendly service, great food, and a fun change of pace for Kapolei. We'll definitely be back.

Food is great, but the service needs a lot of improvements! I was there at noon on Monday. Sat on the tables outside with my strawberry cream slush. I was observing the female servers. They never smile, and looked like, honestly , disgusted with their job! One female server looked angry cause my payment didn't go through at the walk up menu. She had no smile when she came up to my table to get my payment card. She walked back inside very slowly, took awhile to return, and when she. Did, she just has such an angry look on her face! Not nice to look at! These females looked as if they hate their jobs I suggest Management should train these workers on Customer Service! I worked in Customer Service for over 20 years! I noticed the younger servers Males Are a lot more pleasant and very nice!

Want Sonic's?I've had Sonic's in the mainland & now we have one here in Oahu in Kapolei right by the Mehana town homes. Honestly the only thing i ordered from here was the pretzel stick & of course you need to get the cheese dip!!I love pretzels so i had to get that..I love their different selections of their slushee drinks. They've been open for a while now & yet still have a crazy line.

Finally had a chance to grab food here. First time that the cars weren't lined up on the street, at the same time it shows how popular Sonic is and how good their food is. We ordered our food at the drive thru, we would've preferred parking at the stall and having a server on skates come out but all the stalls were taken. Oh well next time. We ordered their Quarter Pound Coney, Corn Dog, Cherry Limeade, Classic Chocolate Shake, Onion Rings, and Chicken Bites. Everything we ordered was delicious. We barely finished our food. We will return.

Okay, Sonic... you won me over. On this visit, the line wasn't as brutally long as previous experiences, we only waited a short while before we were able to enjoy the full drive-in experience. It was fun watching the team members skating around and taking care of guests who were enjoying their meals from their cars. That classic Sonic experience definitely adds to the charm. I also noticed some improvements to the organization of lining up for the patio area with the use of a little maze, making it easier to line up at the ordering kiosk if you'd rather park and enjoy your meal outside. The team member who took my order was lovely and polite, and the person who brought out my food was just as friendly. I ordered the All-American Style Hot Dog with tater tots, a strawberry lemonade, and a side of chicken bites. Everything was delicious and kept me fueled through a long day of running errands. One small observation: I noticed a team member skate into the women's restroom while still wearing their service apron. From a food safety perspective, this presents a cross-contamination concern and would make for a good coaching opportunity. It's a minor detail, but an important one. Other than that, I'll gladly be back for another refreshing drink and those amazing tater tots. Thank you for being here and for serving the community. I'm rooting for you all! A special thank you to the owner for taking the time to respond to my last lengthy review. I truly appreciate being heard and acknowledged. That's what great customer service looks like. You definitely won me over. I'll be back, and I'm looking forward to giving you five stars on my next visit!

Double smash burger, groovy medium fries and chocolate shake! $20
    Chez T.

I totally enjoyed my first time here. The craze has died down a little so getting service is so much faster. It only took me 5 minutes to go through the drive through. I had a double smash burger, medium groovy fries and a chocolate shake. It was just a few cents under $20 for my combo. Food was hot and fresh and I was not disappointed. There was a very helpful worker standing at the entrance to the drive through answering questions. I would have loved to park in one of the stalls and have them bring the food to the car but every stall was full at lunch on a weekday. I would definitely return and I think Sonic has taken the number 1 spot for fast food in Kapolei.

Much faster service today. (6-28-26) Only confusion is that we entered from Kunehi and others who entered from the Parkway after us, were merging into the lanes, while others from Kunehi were already in line. (The circle lane was closed.) **Also how do we get rewards from our app when using the drive through? This time around we missed it. **Teri smash was yummy, fries were unfortunately cold, strawberry refresher w/fruits was yummy! Enjoyable experience, and we'll be back!!

    Footlong Coney was good!
    Sarah N.

Honest review - I wasn't expecting perfection anyway, but wow... they definitely have some work to do. Our first visit? The wait exceeded 3 hrs, so we ended up getting out of line because we still hadn't even made it to the driveway. Crazy! Second attempt was today. There wasn't a line backed up onto Kapolei Parkway, so we figured we'd stop in for an afternoon treat (that we definitely didn't need haha). Total wait time: 60 minutes. The line moved at a slow but steady pace, tho I think the ordering process is what's causing most of the delays. The Sonic you know and love from the mainland definitely offers a much wider menu with more customization options. Don't get your hopes up here... at least not yet! A heads up: Combo meal upgrades don't include onion rings - even if you're willing to pay extra - and we couldn't upgrade our drink to anything "special" either. We ended up ordering two drinks a la carte and a Footlong Coney instead. Drinks: 1. We originally wanted a Lemon Berry Slush, but they don't offer that here. Instead, I got a Lemonade Slush with strawberry, and it was really good! 2. The Cocoberry Cream was simple but super yummy. It's coconut and vanilla over Sonic's signature ice, topped with strawberries, Sprite, and sweet cream. I asked if they could make it as a slush, but nope! Still delicious tho :) Thankfully, by the time we got home, the Footlong Coney was still warm and soft. It definitely didn't taste old, bland, or stale like I was worried about after reading some of the reviews. Overall, the service still needs some work. Efficiency is the biggest issue, and the staff really need to double check the tickets before running out orders. We sat at the pickup window for quite a while because their tap card reader wasn't working properly, even after inserting multiple times... and then they brought out the wrong drinks, wrong sizes, and missing add-on. Figured out that the person who took our order got it wrong, so we just took the incorrect sizes and went on our way since it had been melting on the guy's tray in the 5+ minutes we waited there. No kidding. It was melting before our eyes in the hot Kapolei sun! And - it's not cool to pay extra for an add-on and not receive it. Good thing I noticed cuz you won't catch me back in no line! That said, we'll definitely be back to try more. They're brand new, so I'm sure things will settle down once everyone gets into the groove.

    Just a chili dog
    Kristin S.

I can't wait until we can actually enjoy the whole menu, don't have to sit in the line, or can finally order on the app for pick up. The chili dog was pretty good. French fries were hot and tasty. Burger was mediocre. For $15 combo I expected more but maybe the $7 meal deal will be easier to stomach for a group of teenagers. We sat outside at the tables and it was fine but parking was far into a dirt lot across the line of the drive through. There is no inside. I don't know if they plan to have one or not.

    Cheesecake Master Shake
    Ruby S.

Groovy Fries tasted amazing! Served heat hot, crispy, and lightly salted. Addicting while praying these fries will not turn cold. One and consecutive sips of Cheesecake Master Shake served runny to my displeasure. Whipped cream melted quick and no stem cherry sank south. Unwrapping Jr Double Cheeseburger didn't look appealing with ketchup sprawled all over the wrapper. This messy burger would've scored higher points minus catsup overload. Served warm. Fastest to slowest: 1) Free Self-parking: Enter via Kunehi St, turn right or left at slight curve, turn right on gravel area, park, walk across and place your order at a kiosk outside. There's rectangular and round tables with chairs and two restrooms outside. 2) Drive up and park at one of the kiosk and place the order(s) via employee intercom. Another employee on roller skates brought and confirmed our orders in a few minutes. Unable to remain parked in the stall to consume meals unlike other locations on U.S. continent. Applies to Kapolei location. Drivers must reverse the vehicle, park, and consume their meals elsewhere. 3) Order and stay in your vehicle at two lanes drive thru which consumes the most time. Forty five mins wait on a weeknight before a holiday. We're so eager to sink our teeth and feed our tummies with Sonic. I can only comment via observation and consumption. I will say yes to Original Sonic Smasher, more groovy fries and a small Caramel Classic Shake with less wait time. Stay tuned.

Second day of the Grand Opening weekend of the Second location of Sonic in Hawaii! The first Hawaii location is in Maui. This Second one is in Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i. It was bombarded with customers! Social media posts stated that some people waited in their cars for the drive-through for about 4 hours! Wow! We decided to go on Sunday, May 17, 2026. It's more fun to wait with friends, right? And carpool together... Thanks, Angel! She brought her hubby and her mom... all three of them are entertaining! LOL! Irene had told us about the parking agreement for the Opening weekend with the elementary school next door. It worked out great! Instead of waiting 4 hours for the drive-through, we just waited maybe 1.5 hours, standing in line for the kiosks. Everyone enters their orders on the monitor. A voice comes over the speaker to help. I got the 6-inch Coney hotdog, the rainbow slushie, and the Hawaii exclusive Teriyaki smash burger. My Coney dog was missing, so I went to the door where employees were coming out to deliver orders. They were very nice about it and even gave me a 12-inch instead of a 6-inch! Thank you! The food was ok... a bit on the salty side. The slushie melted into non-recognizable colors. Haha! We got a Hawaii Sonic t-shirt - on sale... yay! It was a fun adventure!

This was my first ever experience at a Sonic. This location was very clean! Two single-room restrooms available. Plenty of outdoor seating. Inside is for staff only. The walk-up line was much shorter than the drive-thru line. Wait was 20 min on a Friday night. Food only took 15 min, despite the large amount my boyfriend and I ordered. My favorite food item was the corn dog. Crispy, fluffy corn batter. Hot and fresh--yum! Teri burger was a bit over-sauced for me, which resulted in a soggier, sweet burger. Chili dog was good. Onion rings have a heavier batter, but still good. I didn't really care for the cheddar pepper bites. Cherry limeade was nice. Friendly service! When we were missing a burger in our order, a manager was quick to help. My boyfriend and I even saw several employees helping an immobile car get around. Will be back to support this location!

this is what I got...pretty good

The first Sonic on Oahu opened yesterday in Kapolei. We went today to check it out. We got there at 10am and there was already a line. We waited in line for an hour and a half before we got to order. It took another 10 minutes to get our food. We got a Footlong Quarter Pound Coney Combo with fries and cherry limeade. We also got a Teriyaki Smash Burger (Hawaii exclusive), Chicken Bites, Mozzarella Sticks and a Rainbow Slushy. The damage was about $37. The food was ok. The mozzarella sticks were cold. The fries were warm and the hot dog itself was really salty. I really liked the teriyaki smash burger. The food felt rushed as to be expected. The rainbow slushy quenched my thirst on this hot day. Since, it was their grand opening weekend, they were selling Sonic merchandise. You could pick up t-shirts, hoodies and caps. They also had tables and chairs set up where we could eat at after getting our food. I wouldn't mind returning again when it isn't so busy.

Also, did I really want a Sonic burger? The answer was an easy no. Did a quick search and found this place which I had no idea existed but now I know they exist in an excellent way. People come here to drink, I'm not a drinker but there was plentynof alcoholic beverages on the back wall for your choice that it could be overwhelming. This is a bar with indoor seating and a World Cup game was on. I think there was outdoor seating but it looked like a different restaurant to me. We ordered dirty fries, a sweet tea, the simple smash, village smash, and sweet tea. I have to admit, I'm overly harsh on burgers but from the first bite, this hit right to me. The dirty fries were good also. We washed down that salt with their mildly sweet sweet tea. That's the only miss for me as I like deep sweet tea thanks to some time spent in Mississippi earlier in life. Their food put themselves on my radar so we will definitely be back as we didn't even scratch the other meats they had on menu.

Since the restaurant looked very busy, I waited another 25 minutes, until about 8:45 PM. I then asked for an update on my order, and I was told it would be another 20 minutes. At that point, I asked if my order had even been started, considering it was only two Smash Burgers and an order of fries. Given the excessive delay and lack of communication, I requested a refund. The long wait and poor updates were very disappointing, especially since I had placed my order in advance for pickup.

I paired the food with a Hana Koa Roof Top Pale Ale from their local drafts list, which was crisp and excellent. After happy hour wrapped up, I moved on to the dinner menu and ordered the Half Pound House Burger and fries for my entree. The burger was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Overall, the food and ambiance were absolutely outstanding, and the service was prompt, attentive, and friendly from start to finish. Our favorites were the Braised Beef Shortribs, Pork Belly Fat Abobo, and Garlic Butter Shrimp. They are known for the Garlic Furikake Chicken, which was good, but a little hard to chew at times. The pork adobo rice is amazing, so definitely pay the extra charge for that over white rice. The pickled kimchee cucumbers were also delicious. I wish they sold that in a large jar to take home! They also have lots of ice cream pie desserts that looked delicious, but we decided to forgo that in favor of shave ice somewhere else.

First time here and loving the aloha vibes. Located in Kapolei and lots of locals come here…read more Awesome services, very friendly, and my order came out quick. When you walk in you will be greeted by the cashiers. Menu is on a screen. You order first, pay, and the cashier will give you table number if you are dine-in. Kinda reminds me of Carl's Jr or Conner Bakery. I order a small Ice Coffee coffee of the day was Kona and a Tomato Jam Sammie. The sandwich came pretty quickly, the briche was toasted, overeasy egg, cheese topped with arugula and tomato jam which had a BBQ flavor. Their prices are reasonable for a cafe style and the food are made fresh. So it's a good experience if you are in Kapolei area. This is a good size cafe with options to sit indoors or outdoors. I sat at the outdoor bar area because there's 3 TVs up. Perfect for me to watch the World Cup Spain vs Belgium. I definitely would come back to try out their lunch menu.

Very light and delicious! It's a full service restaurant. They also have takeout area/store with sweet treats and some merch as people call it these days. I do have to try their entrees in their sit down area one day. They also have counter/ bar area that's open air. Free parking in front of the restaurant.

Nobody told me five guys had unlimited toppings for no charge!!!…read more Listen, I am not a burger person, so five guys never interested me. Until one day we grabbed dinner here with another family and I had to eat here, and I was shocked in the best way. I scanned the menu for something I could eat thinking I'm only eating fries, but then I saw the grilled cheese....and then I saw additional toppings are no extra charge?! And they serve mushrooms?! I added on that protein with veggies with ridiculous excitement. While waiting for the food, I really do appreciate that you can see it all being made, so I'm surprised no one talks about it for it's apparent freshness. And comparing the price for what you get, I hope they continue to stick around. The aesthetic of the place just screams old hospital with all the bright lights and white and red, and it kind of hurt my eyes so I'll eat here again, just not stick around. Call me crazy, but I liked the grilled cheese. Everything was smashed well that allowed the bread to melt together and be held by the cheese. I also appreciate the mushrooms being added and everything was good for the price. Why did I take a star off? Just needs a little more work cleaning. When we went, there was no one inthere, so there's no excuse for the kids chair being dirty with soda spilled on it and it was there before we walked in for who knows how long. They definitely had enough time to go over the store and prep for the rush, or in this case, for two families to come in and eat.

And of course, Coke products... it's the real thing. Definitely coming back for the Milk Shake. The cashier Mylin great help walked me through a first timer order lol gentleman in the black so so kind Marie
