So sad...for years this used to be one of very favorite places to celebrate special occasions - however the last few times we have experienced unusually LONG wait times to get our food. Always make reservations in advance. Recently celebrated a CSU graduation, and it was a disaster. Another occasion my daughter went with friends and had to leave because after an hour and half they hadn't gotten their food...no bread, no refills on drinks. Came in to celebrate our anniversary & had a lovely time. The staff was so helpful and friendly and very attentive. I got a NY strip oscar style and it was fabulous. The mashed potatoes here are some of my favorite ever they're so garlicky and delicious not too smooth not too bumpy just a nice in between. The espresso martinis were pitched as the best in town so naturally we had to give them a try. They were delicious! My fiance ordered a prime rib with mac and cheese that was also fabulous. My boyfriend and I came here for our one year anniversary, and it was fantastic! We arrived 15 minutes early and they were able to seat us. When we walked up to our table they had set up a card wishing us a happy anniversary and thanking us for spending the evening with them. I got an old fashioned, calamari, and ribeye steak with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were super fluffy and creamy, they went with the juicy and well seasoned steak perfectly. The old fashioned was the best I've had and they also served us a plate of sourdough with homemade garlic salt butter. After the meal, they served us a complimentary desert for our anniversary. Sonny's definitely tops the short list of fine dining options in Ft Collins. I can see this being a special occasion restaurant appreciated by the locals. Classic steakhouse fare: steaks, chops, prime rib, and seafood. Chateau Briand and a seafood tower are a couple of unique finds on the menu. I say in the bar lounge area where I received excellent service. They had a lounge menu, but you can also order from the main menu as well. The roasted beet salad was pretty good, but had an opportunity to be better. They serve the beets on a pile of mix greens, but fail to dress them in any way. No one wants to eat a pile of dry greens. And if it's on the plate, expect your guests to want to eat it. The pork belly appetizer well made up for the minor beet salad issue. Amazingly tender and flavorful with a chipotle peach gastrique and pistachio goat cheese. I consider this a signature dish here. The steak frites from the lounge menu was excellent. Perfect medium rare prime strip served with a choice of sauce. Cognac peppercorn for me. Nothing special about the fries, kind of reminded me of McD's. Cocktails, ambience, and staff were all fantastic and I look forward to returning. read more

This is one place I thought I'd never set foot in based on the little I knew about it - a fancy and pricey steakhouse! With the Great Plates special going around in Old Town, we decided this was the time to finally check it out at a reasonable price. We dressed up a little extra fancy and headed down the stairs and through the heavy wooden door. We were greeted immediately at the host stand and taken to our reserved table which was tucked in the back of a small dining room. There is a massive TV at the end of the dining room (it was dark this evening) and sports memorabilia and football photos plastered all over the walls. Dressing up was very unnecessary (still glad we did, though) - the majority of people dining around us were in jeans and white sneakers. We ordered the special with three different courses: creamy asparagus soup with mushrooms and toasted almonds, Verlasso salmon with crispy skin over toasted farro, creamed corn and red pepper coulis, and finished up with apple walnut bread pudding topped with Vern's toffee, ice cream and caramel sauce. Every aspect of every dish was absolutely out of this world! You could tell these were smaller portions than traditional, but they still seemed to put the same care into making sure it represented their regular menu. Our server, Tatiana, and the server's assistant (didn't get her name) were on point and made sure our glasses never ran dry, and checked on us often to ensure that we were enjoying our experience. We split a bottle of cabernet sauvignon and spent a leisurely hour and a half sipping and enjoying the fine dining. After this experience, we'll definitely be going back to try out happy hour in the lively lounge that was packed on a Tuesday evening! read more

The location is below ground, which was pretty cool. We arrived for our reservation and we were seated immediately. The assistant server came over and poured our water and let us know our server would be by shortly. The only thing I would have liked differently is a menu with all drink options presented when you are seated, not just the wine list. The server had to come back twice with the other 2 options. We ordered our food and drinks and as we waited, warm fresh bread was brought out. Our food was served at the perfect temperature. The sides were delicious as well. It was about an hour before we got actual service, the calamari was okay , slightly chewy and mushy and the lemon sauce was too sweet. The oysters were great, but the steak was dry and not worth 60$. also when you order a baked potato loaded they make you put it together your self and personally if I'm spending 100+$ on food I would prefer them to do it so the butter and cheese is actually melted. read more

We went here for my mom's 70th birthday. It has a brilliant location off College. We ordered oysters, which were very fresh and larger than you would expect. The service was painfully slow, each course took at least 30 minutes to arrive. We did not anticipate being there for nearly 3 hours. The steaks and venison chop were okay. For the cost you would be better to go to a different chop house. We left at around $600 for 6 people. The sides and drinks were also okay but nothing to write home about. The biggest excitement came when the kids were able to check their coats! Overall we are glad we have it a shot but won't be back anytime soon. read more

We didn't realize that dinner seatings didn't start until 5pm, so we sat in the lounge for an hour for drinks and apps. First, the service in the bar was amazing. The bartender was very attentive. We could both tell that he was very experienced. We ordered oysters. There were shell fragments. I've been eating oysters for at least a decade and I have never experienced that before. It just means that the person shucking them needs more practice. I hope they took that feedback as such when I delivered it at the time Ok, at 5pm we made our way to the dining room. I couldn't really figure out the vibe of what I should have been wearing... I felt underdressed, but there were ppl more dressed and less dressed than I was. It was confusing. The wait staff was very professional, but the way the hierarchy was set up was interesting. There was a main server with an assistant, a trainee and a couple of runners running around. These ppl seemed to cover the entire floor. I wonder if they are short staffed OR if this is just the way it's set up to maximize tips for everyone working since they're only open like 6 hours a day. I am sure of this because I could hear the "You're getting a whole team." sentence being repeated at every single table.... which leads me to the acoustics in the space. I could literally hear the conversations of the 3 tables around me in surround sound the entire evening. My husband is rather soft spoken, but I've never had such an issue in a restaurant and I've been with him for 11+ years. (Check my stats) I found myself just listening to everyone around me instead of trying to strain to hear my husband. The lighting was harsh and there was no soft music at all. Just loud talking from other tables the entire evening. I could have brought ear plugs and just played on my phone tbh. When the food finally came....it was interestingly inconsistent. My husband got the french onion soup and prime rib. I got the wedge salad and filet mignon thermidor. My husband and I both agreed that our steaks were pretty dry and bland which was disappointing. My husband didn't have a sauce, but I did. The sauce on the filet was so good that it could have been on a boot and I would have eaten the boot just to keep sopping up the sauce!! Honestly, I was only eating the steak so I could drag it through the sauce. The wedge salad was also amazing!! The butter cake was just ok. We did get it to go, but the caramelized bit on top was bitter and the cake wasn't interesting enough to eat it without the topping. I was confused. If I ever go back, I would get the wedge salad. I could do without the steak, but give me the sauce, bread and some booze. That would be a good time. For $230, I was let down. I would have had a better time spending less just eating apps and 'tizers, or whatever Tom Haverford said. Also, servers stop commenting on how much food ppl are eating. I didn't eat more than popcorn all day so I wouldn't spoil my appetite for dinner at 5pm!! Don't judge me, it's my thing. read more

This is a steakhouse, but this Seafood Tower is a must have when dining at Sonny's. It's fresh, it's filling, and delicious with all the different sauces. It includes Ahi Tuna, Lobster, oysters, and shrimp. Combined with their sourdough bread and herb butter, it's a dining experience that will make any evening special. We love the very attentive staff and usually like to sit in the lively bar area. I'm impressed that the staff takes the time to get to know you and remembers little things to make you feel important. Made a holiday reservation for tonight at 5PM expecting to take advantage of the happy hour menu. After being seated, my wife asked for the happy hour menu and we were told it was only applicable in the lounge area and not in the dining room. I told our server I hadn't seen that stipulation on their web-site and before I could finish my sentence was told it was clearly stated "right at the top of the on-line happy hour menu". Simply put, it is not stated anywhere on their happy hour web-site page (see screen shot of the top of the happy hour menu). After ordering our meal, we were told three times they'd be bringing out bread after getting it out of the oven while our steaks cooked. It finally came out with our main meal cooler than room temperature and clearly a day or two old. I am pretty upset with Sonny Lubick's at this point. I really enjoyed the ambiance of this place. It definitely has the "steakhouse" feel. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. First off the bread and specialty butters are yum. We got their seasonal steak tartare... And tbh its probably my top 2 fav steak tartares I've had. The whole dish was well balanced in flavor. We also got an heirloom tomato salad (not pictured). I'm surprised at how large it was! It was 3 large tomatoes, and was easily split between me and my partner. We both got the largest prime rib they had (16oz). It was cooked perfectly. The rosemary au jus was extremely flavorful. The mashed potatoes were delishhhh. The seasonal vegetables were alright. They were sauteed, but I kinda wished they were roasted or had some kind of char to it. For the desserts - definitely get the butter cake. Their ice cream comes from local restaurants (love the support!). I loved the bruleed top. It did come with fruits on the side. Idk if the Mandarin oranges really belonged there... Felt like canned fruit and really brought down the quality of the dish. Good thing it was on the side. And do not get the creme brulee. It was alright... But the creme part was too thick in texture and the sugar was not bruleed underneath the strawberries. Overall I enjoyed the experience! Come here for a special night out :) read more

Finally a restaurant that still values high level service. I honestly didn't think that this level of care, attention, and service existed anymore. If you want a special dinner out, and you want to feel that you matter as a patron, then please come here. They pay attention to detail and genuinely want you to be happy. It was so refreshing for a high chair to already be ready (per our reservation request), for them to leave a note (for our special occasion), and for the manager to want my kids to be happy / eat their meal. Yes, there is a kids menu here! When my kids were being picky, they offered to swap out their order, but the kids' sliders were cooked to perfection so they ultimately ate it all. The food was good and some of the best brussel sprouts that I've ever ordered at a restaurant. Thank you for telling me the trick to making these at home. Lastly, we were evacuated due to wildfires. When our server and the manager found out, they went above and beyond to send us home with extra food. Coloradans looking out for other Coloradans goes a long way in my book. My husband & I talked the whole drive home about how nice it was to finally find a restaurant that still gets it. We were happy with this place before they were extra kind to us, btw. I'm very disappointed in this restaurant. My friends and I went to dinner here with a reservation at 7:30 to celebrate my friends 21st birthday. When we arrived we were told to wait in the lobby for a few minutes as our table was being set up. Understandable as they may have been busy (in which they were not). After being walked to our table it took our waiter 20 minutes to even come greet us. Finally we placed our drink orders and that took an additional 20-25 minutes to receive our drinks, two which were non alcoholic. We did not receive bread or place our appetizer order in this time frame so we politely asked another waiter. We received absolutely no communication when it came to our food or the bread still supposedly being in the oven. As the night continued we received poor service from our waiter. Another group of 8 walked in and got immediately greeted with bread waiting for them. Our waiter spent 20 minutes socializing before even checking to see if we had gotten any bread or the appetizers. He in fact never verified we had received it. That same table also received appetizers within 15 minutes of them arriving. We were trying to stay positive in thinking this was due to the party size(our party being 4) but were very much proven wrong. After being there for an hour, a second older group of 2 walked in which also received the same service as the group of 8. Immediate bread and wine. After an hour and a half of being there we finally received our appetizers followed by our dinner 15 minutes later. Once we received our food our waiter very quickly became short with us. The entire rest of the time we were there it felt as if we were a burden on his time. He was short and did not give us much time to look at the dessert menu as well as started to walk away before our conversation, he started with us, was finished! The group of 2 at this point had already left and the group of 8 was finishing up with us. We didn't get to leave until 9:50, 10 minutes before closing, meaning we were there for a total of 2 and a half hours. When going to a fancier restaurant it's an expectation to be treated with respect and higher class. I honestly do not recommend this place after the way they treated us, which I strongly believe is because of our age. This was the first and DEFINITELY our last time ever coming here. Which greatly sucks as we were going to be coming once again in October for another birthday. We will be going somewhere who will treat as equally as they treat older folks. read more

We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary here and it was our first time in. Reservations were easy to make through their website. We showed up 15 minutes and they got us right in. Front of the house staff were super friendly. Really cool vibe with all the pics of Sonny with his time at CSU. Our waitress was so friendly! I did the 8oz. Filet with Brussels sprouts and bacon. Unfortunately, I asked for my steak to be medium and it was no way near that. My steak had literally no pink and was close to well done. Not very good at all for $40 we shared a Caesar salad that was just ok. The dessert was the best part of the meal, but not worth $120 one bit. I had high hopes for this place. I took my wife and my parents, and we were excited to have a fine dining experience. Alas, it was not to be. We had two glasses of water ( 15 minutes) before our alcoholic beverages came. One hour and 20 minutes to get our main course; we did order one soup and two salads as starters, but still! And then my potatoes were lukewarm at best, and my mothers were cold. At one point, I ordered a 2nd drink from the waiter who brought out our appetizers; after 10-15 minutes, there was still no 2nd drink, so I flagged down our waiter to be told in a snotty tone that he was the only one who takes orders, to which I replied, well the other waiter didn't tell me he wouldn't pass on the order as he took it!!! Over all, I couldn't wait to get out of there. We went next door to Brothers and finally enjoyed a couple of drinks and laughs. I will not be going back. read more

Very impressed. First time we've been since that space was Nico's years ago. The food was excellent. We started w the wedge salad, then shared ribeye and scallops w asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes and had the chocolate torte w vanilla ice cream for dessert. They were attentive to my need to be gluten free which I appreciated. Hubby's lemon drop martinis were just right, just like they used to do at Jay's. And my margarita (tequila, agave, lime juice) was great. I noticed that all the staff were relaxed, efficient, pleasant and knowledgable. That makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable that when the staff is running around looking stressed. Lastly, the atmosphere was very pleasant, nice soft but plentiful lighting. The food is expensive and everything is Ala carte. I am a foodie and don't mind paying for fine cuisine, but this just didn't measure up. I ordered a medium-medium rare filet. It was practically raw. My husband ordered rack of lamb (Ala carte $55.)which was not particularly spectacular. The Best part of the meal was a very small slice of flour less chocolate torte with bourbon caramel sauce. Our server was personable and efficient, although we were the only people in the restaurant. The ambiance was cozy, but very retro. read more
