The food isn't good and is never hot. We've been here twice now, the first time had to send the ribs back because they were 95% fat. This time we got pulled sandwiches and the meat wasn't pulled all the way so there were clumps of meat and once again a lot of fat. I sent my sandwhich back and asked for a turkey instead. The turkey sandwhich came out and wasn't hot and honestly I'm not convinced they actually use a pit bbq/smoker back in the kitchen. Usually bbq turkey has quite thick slices and there's some variation in size of the slices but this turkey looked straight from the deli counter. We had lost our appetites at this point. Our "server" kept disappearing for 20 min at a time and when we looked up to see where she was.. She was talking to her friends that also work there.. I have had quite a few reviews for this establishment and they haven't been in their favor. The last visit was pretty decent to my relief because I really do enjoy eating at Sonny's and the wait staff is always helpful. The month of May is the best time of the year to visit for a good fill of Bbq. I completely forgot about the specials they offer until someone reminded me today. I tried something different than my usual today and let me tell you I was not disappointed with anything! I had the sliced pork which is my usual, but also the ribs,baked beans,fries, and a corn muffin. All for $10!!!!! Now where can you get that? For me that's two meals for the price of one! Let me tell you, if you plan on going for this incredible deal I suggest you go early like I did ,because I went twice last year and the wait at 5pm was 2hours! Today I stopped at 3:40pm and the place had a few people eating so it wasn't noisy or a wait time. Those ribs fell completely off the bone and had the right amount of smoke to them, I didn't get to eat everything because I was full, but did sample all. So I went to the Sonny's BBQ website to order. It states, enter your email address for $5 dollars off. OK, great. It sends a email confirmation and states place your order. I do. Enter the $5 code, invalid code. try it 3-4 times, copy and paste. Does not work. Place the order, call Sonnys Sorry we cant honor that, call in or eat in only, pretty frustrating. Well then why did you send me an email and state to place my order with $5 off. . Silence. Ok I said, so how about a extra order of coleslaw for the 5 dollars. Certainly better for them. Ordered Door dash last night as this was the only barbecue restaraunt open and the reviews looked pretty good. We ordered 2 3 meat combos and everything except for the corn nuggets was disgusting. Turkey, Brisket,Chicken, and wings absolutely no flavor and dry. Fries soggy . A piece of the chicken didnt even look edible so it wast eaten. Even the garlic bread was inedible and didn't taste right. We just ended up throwing everything away. I am praying I do not get sick from the little bit I did eat. Save yourself the disappointment and go to Bono's or Woody's as Sonny's is downright gross. read more

My first time getting Sonny's. Good bbq, not exceptional but good. The issue here was the wait. I ordered online to pickup. Said it would take 10 minutes. I got there 15 minutes after ordering and waited an additional 15 minutes there. They were not busy, but I assume they are short staffed. I was patient and friendly, and I heard them talking about my order. When it was ready, I asked if I could get a refund and the gentleman obliged. 30 minutes late to get food is just insane. Honestly have no complaints with Sonny's. We went on Wednesday not knowing if was Founders night. I had the Big Deal and was impressed. The server was great but everything else really missed the mark. I use to love Sonny's on the southside so I was really looking forward to trying this location. None of the sides were memorable, the sliced pork was just basic. But the ribs... the first batch they brought out to my husband had been on the smoker so long they literally looked like wood. He ate one before I even saw them, because he's not the kind to complain. Once I saw them, I was shocked the kitchen let those come to the table. I was also worried for the next day or two that he would end up sick from it. They did replace them (even though it took some time because a manager had to "ring them in") and the ribs that came out looked great. But no one was there to greet us so...My niece went to find out if we order at the counter or if they come to us and we were told normally we wait to be seated...they didn't seem happy that we seated ourselves. This is my neighborhood Sonny's location that I frequent often. I only order one thing; the all you can eat St. Louis ribs with green beans and slaw, so this is the only item I'm reviewing. What keeps me coming back are the tender, fall off the bone ribs. I usually have 2 or 3 refills and many times will opt to refill with chicken instead bc the chicken is so juicy and you really taste the Smokey in the flavor. The green beans taste fresh and seasoned and the slaw always seem to have the right ratio of cabbage, Mayo and dressing. Collin is the sweetest waitress and will make sure your experience everything it can be. read more
