Waited over 30 mins for my food and still was not pleased. The food was not fresh at all it taste like it was reheated. The Mac n cheese is not homemade, it taste like it comes out the freezer. I ordered the baby back rib plate and my ribs were not hot at all. The cornbread was hard and tasteless. If you are looking for a good bbq place , I would not recommend this establishment. read more

Oh my!! What a terrible experience! We ordered from this place through Uber Eats. It was about 30 min away from our location and so it would take about an hour to get our food. Well, the first time the driver brought the food, we were missing over half our order. We called the restaurant and they said there was nothing they could do and to try calling Uber Eats. We decided to just place another order since we had a hungry family. Well, the second time, they brought us a bunch of food, but NOT OUR FOOD! I couldn't believe it. I really don't fault the Uber Eats driver who's only job is to walk in and have the food handed to them. This restaurant needs to pay closer attention to this if they want to participate in Uber Eats or other related delivery programs. Drove by and decided to give this place a try. It was overall decent. Their drinks are huge and that was great! I got an Arnold Palmer to drink and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. The overall sandwich was good, but the Mac was very bland. On Saturday April 24 at 1 pm, My family and I stopped at the Sonny's BBQ location on Mt Zion rd for a quiet lunch before finishing our weekend shopping. Both my wife and daughter had heard good things about this location so we gave it a try. We were seated very quickly and at this point things only got better. A very gracious and well-mannered waitress by the name of Grace took our order and even recommended a couple of items on the menu. She is very good with customers and knows how to make you feel welcomed. The food was outstanding and there was plenty of it! The Whole Hog sandwich was a very filling and we really liked the loaded tots. We left with full stomachs and a burning desire to return again. Thank you for a great dining experience. read more

Absolutely the friendliest service I've gotten in a very long time. My girlfriend and I were greeted by every waiter/waitress that came by us as we entered the restaurant. I ordered the loaded tots with pulled pork and I must say I am highly disappointed. The tots were good, with only a drop of cheese and sauce, loaded with straw onions however the pork was very, very dry and over cooked there was barely any meat that wasn't crunchy and dry. Won't be returning, Clayton county just don't care when it comes to you spending your money on something to eat. read more

What a SHAME! It's the 4th of July and I wait over an hour for food that a starving dog in heat wouldn't even touch. Sonny's spends more money on branding its name versus the actual quality of food. First off the ribs, hmmm really, I'm not sure what that was on the those small pieces of bones with that imitation stank smell, second, the chicken was dry and I'm not sure what crack farm you found them from, third the smoked turkey let's give credit where it's due Congrats to Oscar Meyer for making to Sonny's tables because that was lunch meat and y'all know it. Then we have the loose as a goose overpriced supposed to come with ice cream but we don't have ice cream peach cobbler but maybe y'all do and it melted in the bowl and that might explain the straw needs to drink the alleged cobbler. Lastly the sides y'all call fixings was a fix and a joke. How dare you serve this mess in the south. Beans and Mac N Cheese not even can or box worth. Who pooped out the beans and tried to sell it. Oh and one more terrible piece of the dirty pie the only signature that tea deserves is the one at the bottom of the a refund slip. Sonnys is not what it should be. The quality is getting worse as the years go by. Not since 2017 have I gotten a decent plate of pork or brisket. These two are over the top greasy with loads of fat and gristle- almost half of each portion is inedible if you're health conscious and don't indulge in eating greasy food on purpose! Did cows stop producing lean brisket? Or is Sonnys purposely ordering cheaper cuts of fatty meats? I've enjoyed this southern restaurant for over 30 yrs, and I'm hoping the corporate bosses will do better by this chain. These pics reveal the grease and inedible parts of the meat. read more

I reviewed this place 2 years ago and gave it 4 stars . Eating here tonight and I can't say that I will be back as it has changed so much. They have renovated and I must say it's very nice because they added a bar and a pick up/ carry out station and completely redid the interior as far as tables chairs and flooring. I am very happy about this. However, please work on your customer service and actually providing menu items! We arrived and waited a while before a host would come to the front to seat us. We waited so long to the point where there had now formed a line of people waiting to be seated behind us when initially we were the only ones waiting. We were seated and our drink orders were taken- ok great. We went to order entrees and were told that half of the items ordered were not available as they had ran out. Well- that was a let down since I ordered pulled grilled chicken sandwich bc I didn't want pork. But settled for pork anyways bc that's all they had. I asked for okra - that's the main reason I came bc not too many restaurants offer fried okra. They were out if that too. My husband's food came and had cold side items and wrestled with the rib meat -trying to get it off the bone. The coleslaw was actually dry, I tasted it also because I honestly didn't think that could happen. we've never heard of that one before! He left a lot of his food uneaten and asked if we could stop for food on the way home. The banana pudding came and cookies were so crunchy, you can tell that it didn't sit long enough to even serve because the cookies were not soft at all. I was very disappointed with every aspect of this experience. They had many TVs but had them on mute and you could easily hear other people's conversations. The decor was nice but the ambience needs work because it's set up like a sports bar feel but very quiet throughout the restaurant. People sat at the bar and couldn't hear the TVs and had to read captions. No music and no audio of TVs but sports bar feel- it was kind of a weird concept. We won't be back!!! read more

Oooh Nostalgia...Sonny's bbq was one of my mom's favorite places when I was younger. My boyfriend was craving ribs. I dined in with my bf and 1 year old toddler. We both had the all you can eat ribs which included texas toast (or corn bread) two sides and 5 ribs. Of course the all you can eat means that you can request more ribs and different sides. The ribs had great flavor without the sauce. And I really liked the sweet hickory barbeque sauce and the sweet honey barbeque sauce. Although we came in closer to closing time our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. I took a point off because I realized that there was a mold spot on the ceiling wall which kind of made me wonder about the matinence of the building. My son got a free meal with the our purchase which he enjoyed. We opted for the chicken tender and macaroni and cheese for him. I really enjoyed my two rounds of ribs and the sweet potato. The broccoli was not so good. I've always liked their baked beans and crinkle cut fries. My boyfriend loved his food also. It didn't taste like it had been sitting under a hot lamp or in the window due to negligence. Bottom line this location is worth visiting. read more

I've come here for lunch a few times. It's never to busy and easy to grab a quick bite. The meat is smoked and has good flavor (pulled pork and turkey). I've yet to try the ribs, but one day. There's 3 sauces to choose from which have good flavor, so most people will enjoy. The wait staff is nice and greet you warmly after you walk in. Food comes out pretty fast. Plenty of options for sides (baked beans, green beans, fries, mac and cheese, corn on the cob). Relaxed environment, so I feel comfortable coming by myself. Take out is available and even a drive through. This place is good if you have a taste for BBQ, but can't make it to your favorite spot on the other side of town. read more

Usually great food and excellent service but because of poor planning/management you had only two servers who had to cover the floor as well as take out. I feel extremely bad for the staff to bear the brunt from the customers vs. the leadership. For those of us who waited almost 30 minuets to order great service once they had a chance to take our order but no effort on management to even give a show of trying to compensate. The food is decent you can't beat the price. We had the family feast. You get four meats, three family sides, and bread. We had plenty of leftovers. The cleanliness is my biggest issue. Apparently they don't have bus boys and the servers refuse to clear tables. Two parties left during our visit and the tables were never cleared. This is good barbecue! Look, this isn't some back-country shack that kills their own hogs and painstakingly loses sleep over the curation of their meats. But the people here know their barbecue. And there's not a whole lot of fuss about it. And that's what I like about this place. Decent meats. (They need some hotter sauces.) But overall good stuff. Always served fresh and hot. I'm a bbq snob and often a difficult customer to please on purpose just to test the quality of the wait staff and i have to give them 3.5 stars. The family sampler would truly feed a family of 4....with leftovers. Though not a fan of the Kraft style macaroni and cheese or the mountains of fries and Texas toast the ribs, smoked wings and sliced pork were delicious. The brisket was drier than i like but I'd eat there again. The service was excellent from the cheerful greeter to our server, Bill and another server who truly has the most welcoming smile and we weren't even her customers! Bravo! 4 stars for service. The only low point was actually a very flamboyant, VERY loud and extremely vocal male server who wears cornrows to work??? and didn't seem to care this wasn't his personal hangout. It wasn't engaging hospitality it was as if he were center stage and we were his captive audience. Did you know doing 70 on a city street isn't really speeding or that it should be excusable if you're already late for work and only a block away from your job? Well I do now because i had to hear his story throughout my entire meal...or the server who wiped the dripping bottle of sauce with her finngers then licked them clean on her way to the table thinking she couldn't be seen. I love Sonny's but they obviously don't love me! I ordered their St Louis Ribs and was INSTANTLY sad. The ribs itself was good. Nice smoky taste very tender throughout. My issue is with their partnership with UberEats. I received my meal without SAUCE, UTENSILS, and missing a side item. PLEASE SONNY'S!!! Make sure every bag that is to be delivered is checked.
