I enjoy their food but on July 4th they are telling people 20 minutes for orders and the line is over an hour. I won't do this again ever. There was a lady that said she has waited for 1 1/2 hours for a big order she placed the day before. Very bad business and they have lost mine. read more

10/14/2016 - We (MY COMPANY) just had Sonny's cater for our staff lunch, after placing the order with a staff member on Thursday and confirming it on Friday morning before delivery everything was all set. We ordered a 3 meat package for 18 people, once we received everything and they were on time the portion sizes were so small there was barely enough meat for everyone to have a decent size lunch. We then called the location to speak to the manager Chris to explain our disappoint, the only response he would give is I'm sorry about that. Made NO attempt to give us a credit or a discount of sorts, NOTHING! We will not be ordering from Sonny's ever again. Extremely disappointed. read more

Had a BBQ sandwich - the bread was stale, fries cold & meat taste like it was cooked in crock pot, frozen, then thawed out. I make Brunswick stew myself so thought I'd try theirs - couldn't eat it - not Rocket Science. Buy yourself a Corky's BBQ frozen dinner at Public's Grocery - better than any BBQ they have in Clearwater-Largo area. Food was good. We were all starving (there was a group of 14 of us), so that helps. Pulled pork is great, had wings and Mac and cheese which was good. Buckets of beer for $8 is a good deal too. I like sonny's. It's not the best BBQ that there is but it's alright. This sonny's has fast service and a friendly staff. They don't really add too much sauce to your meat, that you have to do yourself. The choice of sauces is up to you and they have plenty to choose from, my favorite is the sweet sauce. The sides are decent, except for their garlic bread which is exceptional. I could go on and on about their garlic bread, but there isn't much to say, it's Texas toast with the right amount of garlic butter. I recommend this place to anyone except BBQ "experts", because for some people it might not meet their expectations and vision of BBQ. read more

I came through the drive through for a pulled pork sandwich. I got crinkle cut fries with it. Very good bbq! I had to wait for the fries, but it was so worth it. Hot, crispy fries! The pork tastes as good as my father's homemade pulled pork. Excellent food. read more

We went in around 9pm on Wednesday night. NOT busy at all. Quickly got seated and ordered within 5 minutes. My wife ordered the Redneck Eggs Rolls and the Sweet Carolina Sandwich...I ordered the All you can eat Ribs. Egg Rolls came out fairly quickly. Then the Sandwich and Ribs came out... The Sweet & Smokey Ribs were chewy and tough. I then asked the waitress for the House Dry-Rubbed Ribs(since I have had them and they are usually delicious). NOT THIS TIME. She brought me 2 1/2 measly ribs from the end that were a JOKE!...especially since it is an "All you can eat" rib dinner for $14.99. VERY disappointing. Not sure if I would return. read more

Brandon literally comes here all the time so obviously he's a fan! Him and his friends know the staff fairly well so we always have great service when we come here and the food is always good. Decently priced and a lot of food, I don't think it's possible to leave here still hungry. The sides are delish and of course they have sweet tea and really good happy hour beer prices so Brandon is a happy camper. Pulled pork here is so good and there's the option of having it on a bun or with garlic bread which is sort of different but a good combination. read more

We looked at Sonny's online menu in advance of going to the restaurant. Everything looked good with reasonable prices. The photo of the rib dinner showed a full rack of ribs with the description of "tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs". At the restaurant, we all ordered the rib dinner and were very disappointed that we each got only five small ribs instead of the full rack that was shown in the menu photo. That is deceptive advertising! It should not be necessary that we would have to ask if we would get what the menu showed. The description did not indicate that we would get less than half of the pictured ribs. We will not be returning to any Sonny's and will alert others of the deceptive menu! read more

Service was ok, although I've experienced better at other locations. I had the Hi Springs Chicken entree, which is two pieces of chicken breast topped with your choice of cheddar or swiss cheese, mushrooms and bacon. It was very good. What I didn't appreciate was how they served my husband his dish. He ordered the unlimited ribs. The first plate was very nice, but the second and third servings looked like they were burnt and shriveled. Not the best presentation whatsoever. read more

Ceiling leaked onto our table (ewwww) wait staff acted as if we were in their way because we wanted to sit in the bar area. The staff wanted to chat- we felt I the way and rushed. Then we found out they'd changed the menu. They did earn us, but we would never have spent so much on so little. Things are way overpriced now. We won't go back until they change things back. We went there for lunch today the service was good, food was horrible! We ordered full rack of ribs they tasted like they had been sitting all day and when we told the waitress that we were highly disappointed she blew it off. The food was subpar. Meat was fatty and my green beans were straight out of a can. Even the corn bread looked and tasted "fake". Server was super crabby so she couldn't even save the bad meal. We did like the large sized soft drink glasses. Other positives were the salad bar though we did not partake, sauces were tasty, and decent, large dining area. We rated this low on our list of "best dinners on our vacation" and actually had a better experience at a chain BBQ (Willie Jewell's). Look elsewhere, there are better BBQ choices in the area. My husband and I visited this location for the 1st time last week. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they had a huge salad bar and this is a definite plus. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and recommended the Sonny's Sampler - we had sliced brisket, sliced pork, he had white meat chicken and I had dark meat and a rib with 2 sides... we chose the baked potato and baked beans (which were delish!!) plus a choice of garlic bread or corn muffin and we chose the muffin - it was so moist and tasty. We of course ordered the salad bar as well - it has all kinds of goodies (the crab salad is a must have!!) - they bring you 2 chilled salad plates but we were only able to eat 1 serving of the salad. I see a few complaints about Thousand Island not being available but they have soooo many other choices that we didn't miss it at all. By the time dinner arrived we were pretty full but our meals looked so good we had to dig in! The meat was fresh and tasty and the sweet bbq sauce that's offered was awesome - there are 4 different kinds of bbq sauce on the tables along with a full roll of paper towels since it is bbq and can be a bit messy lol ;) We ended up taking at least 1/2 of our meal home and our waitress provided us with plenty of take home pkgs of the sweet bbq sauce and also a sweet tea to go. We will definitely be going back to this Sonny's location - we want to try more of the offerings on the salad bar and try some different dinners - this place rates a #1 in our book!! read more

We have been going here to the Largo location for years for dinner. Staff is always friendly and helpful, but the cooking and accuracy of the order delivered has not been as good over the past 3-4 months - not to the fault of the waitresses. this place used to be good but has gone down hill quickly. i have going here for 9 years. last weekend was the worst. at the drive through, they were super slow. they forgot my drink. the corn was mealy and cold.the pulled pork was too fatty and gross. the peach cobbler was so hard I couldn't cut it with a knife. We have been going to Sonny's BBQ for at least 15 years and always had a good meal. On Mother's Day, because of the above statement, we ordered dinner for 4 to go. My parents are home bound and my Mother always enjoyed Sonny's. The ribs were so dry to the point that there was very little meat left on the bone. I recently placed an order through from the Sonney's on Seminole Blvd. in Largo, Fl. through Doordash delivery service and received the wrong order. Not upset and perfectly fine with what I did receive, I felt compelled to inform the restaurant that the order was incorrect. I called and the person that answered the phone was very polite and understanding and asked if I could talk to the manager. I saw no reason since I was simply making them aware of the situation but I agreed. "Vincent" took my call and immediately went on the defensive saying that he has already talked to me about it and "what is it you want me to do about it"? I then explained to him that he had not talked to me and I repeated my concerns. He then became argumentative and insisted that he'd been talking to me for the last 3 minutes. I informed him that he had not been talking to me and that I had only talked to the person that answered the phone. "Vincent" talked over me at every opportunity and refused let me relay my simple concern that I had received the wrong order. Realizing that "Vincent" is not who I should be talking to and this conversation is going nowhere, I simply said goodnight. After a few minutes of dwelling on the events and not being able to put my point across, for their benefit, I called back. "Vincent" answered the call. I calmly asked if we could start over because there was an obvious lack of understanding each other. He agreed and confessed that he was mistaken and thought he was talking to someone else. Once again I tried to explain the situation and without hearing me explain the events, he once again wanted to talk over me and interrupting me. Never allowing me to offer my constructive advise. He then became even more defensive and I began to think by his words and tone that I was being threatened. I asked if he could give me the phone number for corporate and he gave me an email address. I told him that I wanted a phone number and was told that corporate would simply put me back in touch with him. The impression I got was "good luck". "Vincent" has a bad attitude and does not belong in a managerial position. I will never order from that store again because he made a point of "knowing who I was, my phone number and where I lived". YUM ! We LOVE Sonny's. But not just any Sonny's. We like the one on Seminole Blvd in Largo, Florida. The bartender Narcy is THE BEST! We always eat at the bar because of her. She's very friendly and quick. You are low on tea? Oh no, you aren't. She's already getting you another glass. If you get takeout, you WILL get what you ordered. She checks the orders like a hawk. She knows the menu by heart. She handles the bar like a pro. Oh... LOL... the food is really good too. I usually have the nachos. Nachos with pulled brisket... SO GOOD. My wife loves the sweet and smoky ribs. We work down the street from this place and several people at work start talking about Sonny's when they come in to work in the morning. Sure enough, someone orders from there for lunch... The fried okra is tasty, but try the corn nuggets. They are fried, sweet and SO GOOD ! We opt for no powdered sugar as they are sweet enough without it, but get some on the side, if you want to taste them with or without. We love the garlic bread there too. They have different sauces for different tastes. I love the mild, my wife loves the sweet. They also have hot, but it's a little too hot for me ! The chicken wings are not breaded and they are good ! It's a fast casual bar-b-q chain. For what it is, it's great! Excellent service, delicious pork and beef brisket, peach cobbler and sides also yummy. Plenty of food, family-friendly.
