I usually have a good time when I go to Sonny's BBQ. The food comes to the table at the appropriate temperature. The employees are usually great. Tonight was not a good visit. There was two of us visiting Sonny's restaurant. One order of food came to the table at the appropriate temperature. If the other order of food was cold. It would have been nice if Sage I would have offered to take the food in the back and warm it up. That would have made me extremely happy. It was what was promised ... What I got was calling 3 times to get some to answer and being told it would be brought out ... When someone arrived at the truck to ask for my name 10 or so minutes later I got told it wasn't ready. 5:30 they brought it. I had to ask for more sauce as three 0.75 oz packs are not enough for 2 lbs of meat and a rack of ribs. Got it home and it was the most fatty, gristlely "sliced" pork I have ever tried to eat. Had they plated it and served it to me in restaurant, it would have been sent back. The only thing I can really say positive was that the order was correct as ordered even if the sauce was stingy. can't believe the driver didn't even knock on my door and I text him to please knock on the door because sometimes the doorbell doesn't work. After a while I went to the door and I opened it up and there my food was sitting on the ground, The food was cold and the cornbread which I ordered separate was burnt probably 40% of it was stuck to the paper. I've eaten here many times the food is very good this is the first time i did delivery and it will be the last. Very upset about leaving unsealed food on the ground that is disgusting. We just moved here from Texas and finding some good barbecue was a high priority. This was solid all around. We tried the ribs, brisket and sausage and it was all nicely done. The mac and cheese and potato salad were standouts too. I can't say the banana pudding was the best ever, but it was passable. Will be back! read more

On 7/23, ordered food thru drive thru around 8:30 pm and we still had 30 min to drive left to go home. Ordered 4 meals and 4 boxes in bag. Got home and they completely forgot one meal and one of the boxes was a side which never has happened in the past. Attempted to call at 9ish and no one would answer the phone and tried several times. I drove back the next day and the manager would not refund me b/c then can't refund for a previous day sale. However, they gave me a $15 gift card for my inconvenience...I gave $12 for a drive they tip and my expectations should've been to have to right order. While sitting speaking to the manager, another person had to walk back in because they for part of the order. Very frustrated with lack of service. read more

I've been eating at Sonny's for 40+ years. First time at this location and it will be the last. The staff was horrible - nasty and rude attitudes. Heard one waitstaff tell a customer, "sir, there are only 4 of us." The hostess was overwhelmed by having to greet customers, keep track of open tables, and was also busting tables. Q: how many Sonny's waitresses does it take to operate a register? A: 4 Wish I took a pic because it was comical. It's horrible that management does not have enough people working but for the staff to have such bad attitudes made this the worst experience ever at a Sonny's location. Ordered baby back ribs dinners for take out. The ribs were painfully thin with very little meat and tasteless. The BBQ sauce in plastic packets was marginal at best. I was staying in Sarasota and we all were in the mood for BBQ. Sonny's was brought up and I said - Wee Ha! Just had some the other day in Venice and I could go for some right now. We got an order placed to go. It was ready when promised and smelled great. Upon opening the containers at the house we all were head over heels of the great aromas and the food looked fantastic. Plenty of sauces were provided also. The Brisket (my fav) was tender and had great smokey flavor and was lean (not like some places where it is half fat). The sliced pork was perfect. The ribs were amazing. The potato salad and cole slaw were great and even the garlic toast was delicious. I wish there was a Sonny's BBQ Chesapeake VA. I can't wait to return to a Sonny's BBQ again. I'm proud to report that the rumors of Sonny's demise have been GREATLY exaggerated. The wife and I recently returned from a long weekend back home in the Daytona Beach Area. Not surprisingly, one morning a hangover debilitated my other half. Hunger drove me into Port Orange looking for succulent sliced pork on garlic toast. The new manager there has cut down on the amount of food you get for the high prices you pay. The ribs are all bone with very little meat and you only get 2 now when there used to be 4. The brisket is very small portioned as is the pork dishes. When I complained, the manager picked up my plate and says she threw it away! She has a very cocky attitude and obviously doesn't care about the customers! She has also ran most of the staff off from there. She is on a real power trip with her high and mighty job! It's sad because we used to enjoy eating there! But never again as long as this mighty, mighty manager Theresa is still there! She ruined this place! read more

Sonny's BBQ catered a picnic for my group of 70 people. They were wonderful in every way! From reviewing the menu, setting up the BBQ, serving the food to helping us wrap food for take home packages Kristen and Cindy were so helpful. They know what they are doing!! But I must say that the most impressive part of our dealings with Sonny's BBQ was how professional and friendly they were to all of our guests. We did tastings at two different BBQ restaurants in the Sarasota area and Sonny's by far was the most delicious and fairly priced. This place is terrible, their food was dry and tasteless the only flavor was smoke you couldn't tell pulled pork from pulled chicken. Not only have they changed their decor but their food is definitely not the same. As for their customer service that was horrible. We ordered for take out get home 20 min. away and some of the order was missing called and lady was very nice had to drive back and that person was rude and argumentative (like we would drive 20 min. for a lie) cooks were looking through the kitchen laughing and pointing. Sonny's is my very favorite restaurant, so I am very forgiving and look forward to a consistent experience across Florida. However this was the worst Sonny's experience my husband and I have ever had. We walked in and 4 servers were huddled around the hostess station and in no hurry to scatter and seat us. The restaurant wasn't anywhere near full but there were 3 big parties. Our food was delayed, the server told us that a big party's food was coming out. I watched as they were being served yet our food was another 10 minutes. In total we waited about 30 minutes for our food. Guess what, it was cold. We sent it back and when it was returned, it was still cold! We informed the server that we are leaving, she said she would send out the manager. No MANAGER came out in the 5 minutes we waited. We left and will not return to the Sonny's on Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. read more

Just went to Eat here. Maybe 5 people in restaurant and it still took 10 minutes to be seated. Once seated we placed our order. Server comes back and tells us no baby back ribs so my daughter had to change her order. 5 minutes later she came back and told me they had no smoked turkey. At this point we just left. It is tradition that when my family is in town we go to Sonny's so we missed a few years and came back today. They are remodeling but it's coming together nicely. Got the all you can eat half chicken which is really worth it for the sides alone. They're Sonny's Red beer was good as well. Light but bold. We'll keep coming back once a year. read more
