We were sitting around talking about something sweet. We all had a sweet tooth and was hungry at the same time. Then somebody brought up sweet potato pie. Why did they say that? Now normally on August you can't really find a good sweet potato pie but low and behold my people told me about this place. I am not from Sarasota so I didn't know the gem they had down the road. Literally. So what did we do? Call them. How many lies do you have? I have three left. Hold them I'm on my way. Now once my friend for there she decided to buy some barbecue too. So we could snack but the main objective today was pie. She scooped up some brisket sandwiches and some ribs too. When she walked in the house and gave me my own individual pie I'm thinking it's just a slice. Nope it's an individual deep dish pie for one person. Did I say deep dish? Oh yes God! The crust was not store bought. It had a heavy presence of butter, it was flaky and it was also slight sweet. I could have ate the pie crust all by itself. The taste omg just the right texture. It was heavy, not loose. Sweet but not overpowering the sweet potato. Just the right amount of butter, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Jesus my friend can't never come visit Atlanta without bringing me at least two of these pies. I couldn't eat it all at one time either. So not sleep on these pies. Oh and there were no strings either. The barbecue was dry rub and some of the best I have ever had. I wish I had more of it but again it was a snack and not the focus. Wow, we stumbled upon Perry's while looking for a small, quick bite and were happy with it. Parking is really limited, but we managed to snag a spot in the small lot. We ordered up some pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. They provided extra sauce, which was nice. Everything was pretty tasty. At this point, I've tried everything on the menu. It's seriously all great. A few favorites: 1) Brisket sandwich - one of the only good briskets in the state of Florida imo. It's tender and rich, just like the stuff you'd get in Texas. Seriously, don't bother ordering a brisket anywhere else in town. 2) Smoked chicken - I LOVE smoked chicken, and this stuff never misses. Perfectly crispy and juicy. I get the half chicken platter with double sides. 3) Mac and cheese - Mac and cheese is always great, but this stuff is special. 4) Collards - These are so great! Salty and fatty, like you'd imagine, but still a bit bitter and green. They still taste like vegetables, basically. 5) Ribs - The BBQ sauce is great and these folks smoke the meat long enough to break down the fat and connective tissue. Really solid ribs. Look, I'm not saying that I *refuse* to eat BBQ at any of the other venerable joints in town. I love BBQ, in general. We ordered the full rack, sweet potato pie and corn bread. The ribs were a dry rub and we had sauce on the side because I wanted hot and the boss wanted sweet. The ribs were well seasoned and came off the bone easily. The sauces were also tasty when we dipped the pig in our respective sauces. We ran into the mobile version at the Lakewood Ranch Market (Sunday only from10-2), and bought some ribs and mac and cheese. The ribs were amazing- tender and flavorful- and didn't even need sauce! The brisket was amazing , that was our highlight of the meal. Bbq sauces were very tasty. Chicken was well seasoned and had amazing smoke flavor. Mac and cheese was perfection. Potato salad was good but tasted like store bought. Corn bread was little dry , would of been maybe better with some butter and honey . Sweet potato pie was yummy, I'm use to the sweet pie being more cinnamon and nutmeg flavor, this one was more ginger forward flavor , but it was good. Sweet tea was perfect . This place is located off Tamiami Trail kind of behind a business building but it's still pretty easy to fine and has parking. As you walk in the counters right there and you can see part of the kitchen and it's very clean inside also the customer service was great food was excellent and this is definitely worth trying out the next time you're in the area. They also have their own custom sauce which was absolutely amazing on the ribs as the meat just fell right off the bone. I can't say enough about Perry's and their spectacular service. We hosted an event in late June and decided to let Perry's handle the details of dinner. The food was as good as it gets.
