Great experience with Racshid Cole! I walked around these beautiful Sonoma apartments with him and felt very welcomed from the very beginning. He was so detailed in the way he responded to my questions and even so, gave me more information than I really asked for! While on the tour, you could see how much he loved the community from how everyone responded to him greeting all the renters and they said hello back with not just a simple smile. FALSELY TICKETED AS A RESIDENT DURING INTERNET OUTAGE -- UNFAIR AND RISKY WITH MY BABY! *****SEE ATTACHED PHOTO!!**** I was visiting my family member at Sonoma Porter Ranch and received a parking violation from Golden West Security (the company Sonoma hires). Normally, I always input my visitor information for the parking QR code, but yesterday there was a Spectrum internet outage and cell phone reception was terrible. I physically couldn't enter my visitor information through their system. What makes this worse is that on the violation notice it says: "known resident vehicle parked in visitor space #550." I am NOT a resident -- I am a visitor. Please get your facts right. My family members pay for extra parking spaces and never park in visitor spots. I was parked as their guest, and my license plate should have made it clear that I'm not a resident. This situation was completely out of my control, yet I still got a violation. Sonoma should have communicated with their security provider to account for outages like this, but clearly, they didn't. Because this was my final warning, the next time this happens my car will be towed. As someone who visits with my baby, the idea of being stranded without my car while visiting family is incredibly stressful and unfair. Rules should be enforced reasonably, but in this case, they're punishing residents' guests for something caused by a service outage -- and they're even recording inaccurate information on violations. This warning should be removed immediately, and this policy needs to be fixed so visitors aren't penalized for situations beyond their control!! read more

You will not get your deposit back, ever. I lived at Sonoma for a couple months and decided to move out due to their poor management. I did not hang anything on the walls. I gave the apartment back in the same manner I received it. Clean and free of damages, yet these crooks kept my deposit and charged me an additional $500. I asked management why they're are committing this fraud and thy couldn't give me a straight answer. They will smile in your face until you signthe contract, then treat you like garbage after they collect your money. Find a better place. read more

My guy and I had THE WORST experience and terrible service dealing with Sonoma and one of its staff members-Sabrina. She was the one we mostly dealt with. At first meeting she was professional and acted accordingly when it came To giving us a tour of the property. But as time wore on and we were applying things changed as did she. Little did we know what we were about to encounter with her and Sonoma. Sabrina became rude and dismissive towards us. At one point, during the application process, which, btw, is utterly ridiculous trying to upload docs to their site, Sabrina behaved condescending towards my guy when he asked for assistance. This was after he had questions about uploading docs to their site. This behavior continued as the days and weeks wore on. It was becoming more clear that she lacked the ability to communicate with us effectively about what documents we needed to continue our process. Every time we thought we had completed our process and were told they had everything they needed, something else came up that they needed from us. At this point, we were getting more and more frustrated with their slow process in getting us approved but we continued to comply with their requirements as obligingly as possible. As the two week window was coming to a close, Sabrina THEN tells us she hasn't been able to run our credit check. Ummm...what?! For two weeks she knew this yet waited til that time to tell us!! . What the heck!! She claimed it may have been an IT issue-(total bs). Not okay. She FAILED to communicate sooner that she/Sonoma could not run our credit check due to my guys name change. Umm...what name change??!! My guy goes by his middle name but all other legal documentation has his full, given birth name. Apparently, he needed to produce his SS card. Something else they failed to mention early on. Btw, he doesn't have one. No one has ever asked for it. The whole application process was a complete and utter disaster. In the end, I found Sabrina to be very judgy. I felt as though she treated us like we weren't good enough to live at Sonoma. After I got over the feeling of being personally attacked, I then began looking up reviews for Sonoma. What a joke!! Glad to know I'm in good company. So many complaints and many about Sabrina. It is not as friendly family as they claim. The management has done a good job of being cold and unfriendly.. The new girl(Sabrina) is so cold and unapproachable never smile says hello or anything positive . family friendly would be allowing families to ride their bikes around the complex. We have lived at this property for a little over two years, and I would say they have one of the worst and most incompetent leasing offices. The staff is extremely rude and gives weird looks. Sabrina, one of their apparently new office workers, gave me a weird look, and I had to correct her about what was written in the email regarding the lease extension versus what she was saying in person in the office. Another staff member was also unhelpful when we had complaints, and he apparently receives poor reviews as well. We had been asking them to replace the dishwasher and had complained about a mold smell for quite a while, but nothing substantial was done, so we were honestly quite fed up with this situation, especially given the price. This is not a cheap building, and we were not going to deal with this anymore. They also kept our full deposit by providing a ridiculous list of charges, which we might have to dispute through small claims court. I do not recommend this property - you can find nicer apartments for better prices, as we did. read more

Just called because I used to live there and was dealing with Carmen who was the manager. First off Sabrina is extremely rude. Make sense why the other reviews say how rude the staff is. I was told to call and ask for a manager regarding my account. When Sabrina picked up I explained there was an issue with my account and that I used to deal with Carmen and would prefer to talk to a manager. Sabrina continued to be rude and ask why I needed to speak with a manager and then put me on hold. When she came back on, she asked for my name and number. Lived here for about 3 yrs. Definitely time to leave. They have a visitor parking of 120 hrs a month only. You get one visitor violation and second one is a tow. I understand the parking has changed but I mean it is ridiculous. When I went to speak to the "friendly" office lady to say Wi-Fi here sucks and by the time my visitor realized we forgot to put it in their parking system it was 3 hrs later she just leaned back on her chair lifted her hands and said that is the policy. So it is the policy and office people well. . . . As long as you never interact with them or violate any parking situations you will enjoy this place. We recently just moved into Porter Ranch a few weeks ago and from the very start it has been an amazing place to live ! Raschid in the leasing office was the absolute best at helping every step of the way and made it all possible for us our baby boy and doggie! Our apartment is beautiful and everything we were hoping for when we decided to move and upgrade with a newborn to a 2 bedroom 2 bath. The property is well kept, quiet, clean, and very friendly neighbors! I feel safe walking my golden doodle around the grounds at night and have met many friendly neighbors. I highly recommend taking a tour and coming to Sonoma at Porter Ranch! I can't say enough about how grateful we are to Raschid and how amazing he was from the very start! From showing me on a tour, to his efficiency at responding to emails and helping us make the move! If you are considering I say do it ! You will be very pleased! I read negative reviews on here, but decided to have my own experience rather than allow others keep me away, and I'm so glad I did. My experience has been great! This id the worst apartment staff any company can have. There is a tall male, super rude and comes off condescending, and the main manager walks around as if she owns the place and can care less about any of the residence. When you have a concern she makes you feel as if you're not important or your concerns even matter. They are extremely rude and simply do not care about the residence. This place has gone downhill over the last year and a half. I would avoid this place at all cost. They get you in and are super nice at first but once you sign those documents, they treat you like you inconvenience them. I spent 4.5 years living at Sonoma and I will say, every day, every issue, every question, every email, Maya was the consummate professional. She was always kind to myself and my family, always looking to rectify any issues we brought to her. Maintenance (Alfredo and Reynaldo) was always punctual, knowledgeable and friendly, and fixed everything the first time around. Sometimes I called them for... arguably silly issues but they never made me feel like it was silly, or never questioned my manhood because I didn't want to tighten the toilet paper holder , they just tightened it with a smile. I don't know if they laughed about it in office or not afterward, they should have, but they never made me feel anything but grateful for their service. If you are looking to rent an apartment in the SFV, think twice about this apartment community. There is zero parking for visitors, the rent is beyond inflated (over $2,700 for a 1-bedroom) which is ridiculous and they don't do anything to enforce picking up the dog s**t that is all over the community other than sending a lame email reminder every now and then. It is not the older people who aren't happy renting here, it is everyone!!! The employees in the leasing office are inadequate and have no clue what's going on. I would never rent here again and can't wait to make my move!!!! The only positives are maintenance does a good job and the gardeners do as well. I'm not one to write a bad review unless it was absolutely horrible and here we are... No one really knows what they are talking about and how to troubleshoot in a reasonable and efficient way. It took them a month to figure out a solution for our application that was acting up on their end. After the headache of reaching out to them and going in person to talk to them more then they reach out to you to give you updates they had the audacity to threaten that our rent will go up because of the pushed back date due to their system acting up. On top of this they request for things that are not required, they verify that they received an item and then they say they "never received it", they never really answer any phone calls or return them for that matter, they often say they emailed you but you never received an email from them, they mix you up with other applicants, they say they don't need something and then say they do, they have no safe and secure way to send in documents, and the list can go on and on. You are not able to establish a connection with one sales employee because they are constantly changing (maybe this goes to show how horrible the place truly is on the inside as well). Sales employees are nice but management lacks on professionalism and sympathy. It just seemed like they didn't care at all if you live there or not. They are just there for the money at the end of the day. The Assistant Manager, Allison, is the absolute worst! She is very snooty and has an attitude. She does not care and talks down to you. As a future resident you would not feel confident with their spotty communication, lack of security and willingness to make this process as smooth as possible. The place looks beautiful with the pool/lounge area, gym, etc. The dog park could use some work. Inside the apartments aren't modern. It's unfortunate that this place is nice but is not easy to work with. It makes me wonder what it would be like if I ever needed anything being a resident. I've been living here for 5-6 months, so I have a good feel of the place. Like every place, there are Pros and Cons. Pros: Nice, quiet location. Beautiful views from certain units. Modern fixtures and appliances. Nice pool with good atmosphere. Community room is nice to play pool or watch TV. Gym has decent equipment. Maintenance requests get answered relatively quickly. W\D in unit and one-car-garage provided. All interactions I've had with the leasing office have been pleasant. Cons: Parking SUCKS. The reviews are right - guests have no where to park at all; they really need to fix this. Cell service is terrible - unless I'm connected to my WiFi, I don't get any service, even in the gym. Unless a maintenance request is placed, some of the hallways and stairwells get very dirty quickly. Certain buildings do not have elevators. I'm fine with it, but it's a struggle for a lot of people. Finally, units are a bit overpriced. I'm paying $2,041 for a one bedroom with a partial view. read more

this is the story of this building On April 6th 2021 I rented unit number 213 for $2076.06 The apartment is not even wood floor and I was rented the place because I heard that porter ranch is a safe city First, lura showed one building that rented when I wanted to apply and they had another availability for unit 213 they promised me to make it ready by April14, I filled out the applications , paid holding deposit and send all the documentations to them with drop box and it was included 4 months of my personal and business bank statements both, social security, California id, income verification, my savings bank statement and also for my mom that she was one of the applicants with me. When I submitted everything for a week they had problem with my business bank statements but never said me the problem until I called them and I found that something was wrong with my file and I corrected and resent them They asked for I'd clarification on line that have done it 10 times but because they had not received it I went there personally and made an appointment with them because my mom is on another country now and can't back due to the COVID till end of this month, so I forced them to interview my mom through out FaceTime to be able to check her California if because what ever we tried on line they couldn't receive that, please consider to the lack of communication and fallow up because I was the person who made it happened not the management or Breana Johnson who was responsible to the status of application And then they asked me fo rental verification although everything was cleared on my bank statements, but they still ask fro formal verification, although my current Manager approved me as a person who has been living at my current address for 6 years. They never called me back, call me back, I don't know how to explain that emails are not enough fast to fallow up at a case like that, I called the main management company and give the information to them and ask them to cc me with my current management company that they cc the email with the email that was on my mom application although I said them she was not in the country that I was the main applications at the time. Long story short, I didn't call them last week to see if they might send something to me, now today, my mom said they wanna raise the rental amount and forward the email to me, and I read that if I don't go the apartment before May 21 they price will raise. At this time the status of my application is not clear yet, they never called me about dining a contract or something, what the hell!!!! Worst customer service!!! I booked a tour today. There was a lady in the office and she did not even want to show the unit. She was showing me pictures and when I asked if we can tour she was like "is it raining? I don't want to leave the office since I am the only one." Every apartment I have toured they had an "away" sign they put and toured. After she finally agreed she stated she could only show it to one person because of covid. Blood Sucking Monsters I lived in Sonoma apartments for one miserable year & I had the most painful moments of my life. It started with "NO" hot water for more than 40 days & after creating 21 maintenance orders & calling the office repeatedly I had to get Department of Consumers & Business Affairs involved to resolve the issue. After Department of Consumers & Business Affairs contacted them, water heater was changed in one business day! It obviously depicts how honest these monsters are ignoring a family with a 2-year-old daughter with no hot water for more than 40 days. Why they did not change the heater at first place? Maintenance technician told me "this water heater is NOT fixable & management does not want to change it due to financial reasons"!!! I also caught these monsters a few times overcharging my bank account. Having disputed the transactions, management agreed to refund the funds & apologized for the "mistake". However, I caught them stealing again from my account after I moved out! if you live at Sonoma apartments you must watch your bank account carefully since they steal from it. When it comes to safety in this complex: First, during this painful year, my parking garage was broken into stealing all I had in there. I also witnessed several theft incidents & cars getting vandalized. Secondly, my apartment was facing pool & I could see (I have a few videos) homeless people every now & then taking bath & even shaving in the jacuzzi & the day after innocent kids were swimming in all that dirt! Third, Sorrento apartments is involved in "false advertising" which is a federal crime. When you sign up on their website to fill out the forms to rent one of their bloody apartments they present you with certain numbers. However, before getting the keys the salesman rushes you into signing all those papers again & they change all the numbers without informing you (lack of informed consent which is another crime)! Please bear with me... If I could give this place negative stars I would... I will try to keep this simple cause I just want to make some main points that hopefully save the next person(s) from a year of absolute grief. I found this place on a friends recommendation, and being on a time crunch it was the easy way out. Boy was that a bad idea... Firstly, if you are willing to pay over $1600 in rent for a 1 bdrm you are a bloody fool! You can and WILL find MUCH better places that are same but cheaper, or even bigger... DO NOT LET THE PRETTY EXTERIOR FOOL YOU!!!! - When you get your unit, you will find that your garage is basically across the sahara desert, and god forbid that your garage is on the main road to the gate. (People here will honk at you or possibly hit you when pulling in and out from your garage.) They just are awful. - FORGET ABOUT THE VISTOR PARKING! The tenants horde the spots, so good luck finding one! - If you require an additional spot (cause like I said before, forget about the visitor spots), You will have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get that spot, which is also not even remotely close to your unit once again. Even if you do get the spot, beware that your car still may get towed cause the office is too incompetent to inform the security that the reserved spots now have paying tenants using them,.. Oh and to add to that, random people will still park in YOUR spot. (thankfully, the towing company is pretty quick). -People tailgate you into the complex (super annoying) - The power goes out a lot. - Avoid this place at all costs during the 4th of July. (The complex has an excellent view of the fireworks, so the rest of the valley wants in on that.) - It is ALWAYS windy, so windy that it will keep you up all night. Pray that you don't have a west facing unit. -Cars get vandalized. Yay. -garage and gate remotes never work half of the time. -Be prepared to constantly get "3 days to pay rent or quit" notices every month... You must ask for a receipt when dropping off rent, which by the way, they only accept it in a stupid drop box. They just rolled out online rent pay, but I'm leaving very soon so I couldn't tell you how the process is. -the pool area is always overran with annoying kids, or bros being all bro-ish (drinking, gross girls, loud, and obnoxious) -The gym area is small and pathetic -People do not clean up after their dogs when they walk them. -I have witnessed first hand a guy get jumped by 4 guys in the parking lot. (might want to invest in pepper spray, or brush up on some Brazillian Jiu Jitsu skills) -If you have pets, you will have to pay a deposit, and then a monthly fee to have them. (its outrageous) - They do not pay for ANY utility. You have to pay this separate company called "NWP" I guess the complex goes through them for trash & sewage. VERY expensive bill none the less. ***Update 4/30/13 NWP had the NERVE to charge us an additional month! We don't even live there anymore!!!!*** - Everyone here drives a very loud car. Be warned lol ***Update 4/30/13 Our move out date was set for April 1st, and we were out on March 30th. Before that, they took it upon themselves to barge into our apartment and inspect it with no notice. They have sent us a bill for shit that does't need replacing and other things that aren't explained. When you try to call and speak to Carmen (mind you we call around 5:30, they close at 6pm, they tell us she is "on her way out"...) WTF!? I seriously am so angry with this place. I am contacting the BBB regarding all the shenanigans that go on in that office. Which enforces the next paragraph once more... So when you are a unhappy tenant with all these issue, and try to bring it up to the management, they do absolutely nothing. The main guy "Jorge" never comes out of the office, you never see him, its like he's Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget... So mysterious. I so badly regret moving here! Such a waste of money, time, and sanity. Other than myself being on a time crunch and having to move here, because it was easy, I honestly do know why people live here, except for the over-entitled-mercedes-audi-bmw-land rover-driving-brand name-wearing jerks, I am at a loss... Yes, the complex itself is pretty nice looking, yeah you get a washer/dryer in unit, but as the saying goes, it's too good to be true! don't let the looks fool you! It's just not worth the stress! OH. MY. GOD. This was the WORST experience I ever had with an apartment place in my entire life!!!! I have been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO upset what these people have done!! First--- rude when I first showed up, telling me, "It's too late to show you anything" in a nasty tone...and showed me something from the outside, saying it would be available on Sept. 17. Next-- I came in 3 days later, with the intention of putting a deposit down on that very apartment and was told "It's not going to be available-- we don't know when it will be" by a sleazy unhelpful girl also working there. She said she would talk to the guy we had already talked to, and told me of another one that was available and that she would have the guy call back the next day. I left my deposit in case I wanted that place, but signed nothing. Then the guy called me, 3 days later, and told me the one I wanted would be available. So, I made an appointment to see him. When we got there, he was on another tour-- kept us waiting 20 minutes, no apology, rude, and accused me of lying about which one he said was available, and asked me to literally play the voicemail he had left for me!!! I was getting really pissed....... he then said he would call and let me know when that apartment would be available and still nothing was signed. THREE WEEKS LATER... we had blown them off, figuring they had thrown away my deposit, were getting ready to move and down to our last cent, and found they had cashed my deposit!!!! I was livid and left a message, then got a message back from the manager saying they would send me the refund immediately. One week later, we received nothing, and called. They told us our check was ready. We had to pick it up. Two weeks after we moved in, after having borrowed money from mom to eat, we found that the very check they gave us as a "refund" has bounced!!!!!!! It caused me to be overdrawn and I was so angry I was ready to sue the crap out of them...my boyfriend called, was told they would call him right back and never did. I guess I'm going to the Better Business Bureau now. A person like myself who has a reputation for being a really sweet person, has been driven to this out of sheer incompetence and the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!! YOU DO NOT WANT TO LIVE HERE. My wife and I moved in two years ago when James King (as mentioned by a previous poster) worked in the office. He was very nice and helpful, which is why he had to leave. Since then, the office staff have changed seemingly every month, until finally settling on Jorge as their manager. The employees dislike him because he treats them like idiots and the tenants dislike him because he couldn't give a rat's ass about them. He has stated quite clearly that all he's concerned about is fulfilling his contractual obligations, but beyond that, tenants should expect no caring, respect, or rational treatment from him. It's all about the bottom line, and he's stated that he very well expects a number of tenants to leave because of his policies, but that he's ok with that, as he can re-sell the apartments just fine and make his money back. TALK ABOUT NOT CARING. Parking is as terrible as advertised. There is NO street parking, so you must park in one of the lots. When I moved in here, there were two lots and one set of buildings, so all was A-OK. Since then, they've built a second set and are working on a third WITHOUT ADDING parking. I don't know if it's ANY parking or just SUFFICIENT parking, but the bottom line is that I get home at 8pm and have no place to put my vehicle so I can go upstairs and go to bed. There is NO contingency plan for this, except for me to buy a parking space, which I do not want to do (it's so expensive, my monthly gym membership costs less). If I then dare to park in a space that I haven't bought... BAM! My vehicle is towed. So what is a person supposed to do? Sleep in their car in the parking lot? Not come home at night? No: the answer is clear - "buy our expensive parking spot or we'll tow your car." Look, I'm not asking for a gold-plated toilet or complaining like a spoiled whiner because we have a pool but not a waterslide... I'm not talking about missing luxuries here. A place to park your car and come home at night is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Again, if there were street parking, I'd deal with it, but there isn't. The bottom line is that, after NUMEROUS debates and discussions with Jorge the manager, not only are we leaving as soon as we can, we are writing on every site we can find to warn others!!! And you know what? The management doesn't care, because as soon as we go, they'll fill up the room with someone who can pay and is stupid enough to buy the parking space, too. I do want to say, in the name of fairness, that most of the office staff themselves have been nice (but they change so often it's hard to get attached) and that the maintenance staff is wonderful. None of this is their fault. It's all on the management's fault, and their rigid, inflexible, uncaring, corporate money-grubbing ways. ... Should I tell you how I really feel? =) read more

Pros -Beautiful property and location. -Our roomy 1 bedroom apartment was awesome. Every unit comes with a garage. -We felt extremely safe here. Sometimes our remote for the garage didn't always work. We went out of town for 3 days and returned to our garage wide open. My guitar amp worth about $2k, along with other misc. items was still in there. Could you imagine that happening anywhere else in the valley? -Super fast maintenance. Cons -Very loud. We had the great pleasure of having to listen to constant construction for the duration of our lease. Prepare to be woken by loud ass echoes if you're apartment faces any of the parking areas. -Parking is absolutely horrible. Be prepared to pay $75+ for an extra parking space. I ponied up for an additional space only to have it taken 50% of the time by some random asshat. -Water/Trash utilities are out of hand. You aren't individually metered here, so those of us in 1 bedrooms are subsidizing families in 2+ bedroom apartments. My last water/trash bill was $90....fuck that. -Management...there isn't much to say here. Make sure you have EVERYTHING in writing. Document every god damn thing. If you don't, they will surely find a way to screw you. read more

I'm really shocked by the negative reviews of this apartment and my only conclusion is that most of them are older. Perhaps there was different management a couple of years ago. Our experience in this apartment, from day one, has been excellent. We've worked exclusively with Maya and Amanda in the office, who are friendly, responsive and very informative. I definitely don't understand the "don't be fooled by the pretty exterior" comments I see in the reviews here. The complex is beautiful, solidly built, and extremely well kept up. I understand that you are paying more for a one bedroom than pretty much anywhere else in the Valley, but you're in Porter Ranch. You know what you're getting into here. My unit has an attached garage, a washer and dryer, "hardwood" floors (they are not real but they're very pretty, scratch and water resistant and easy to clean) and a marble kitchen. We have a patio that overlooks the cul-de-sac, and a very neat iPod dock that lets me play music through the apartment with the speakers on the ceiling. Everything is modern, efficient, and not one thing has broken since I've been here. The gym is beautiful and well maintained. Bear in mind that this is an apartment gym - not an LA Fitness. There are about 8 cardio machines (with TV's and fans) and maybe 10 weight machines. I don't know why on earth any resident would complain about the gym. I've never been unable to get a machine any time I've gone. The only issues are the visitor parking (which I don't blame the office for, because parking really should be for residents and frankly there is just limited space) and some of the other residents driving through the area. There are some people who are extremely reckless, which is worrisome because there are often children or pets running around the very pretty community. That being said, I am extremely happy here and look forward to coming home every night. read more

I love my apartment and the complex. Maintenance requests are easy to submit and are fixed quickly, washer and dryer in every unit, friendly neighbors that are quiet, and the neighborhood is close to shopping. I have zero complaints and have been living here since March 2015. Can't relate to the negative reviews on here. read more

I have been a resident at Sonoma for over 14 months and have just renewed the lease. It is a very well-managed property with a number of qualified maintenance folks who are very responsive. The building was solidly constructed with excellent sound abatement characteristics. I have a nearby enclosed garage and another parking space assigned to me. The unit has a nice kitchen with stone counters and a laundry room with washer and dryer. While it might have been useful to have access to an elevator to the third floor when carrying boxes, furniture or other large items, the exercise on the stairs has been good for me. No complaints! The property manager, Jodie, is excellent! She's an asset to Shapell Properties. read more
