I've been to Sonora a handful of times in the past several years and have always had great experiences. My most recent visit was no exception. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the ambiance is relaxed but special, and the food is really good! I was there last Saturday night and the place was packed! My friend and I got a bunch of tapas and just shared--tuna tartare, a shrimp dish, Brussels sprouts, and a yucca dish. Some wonderful chocolate dessert and coffee--everything was delicious. We were looked after but not rushed. I'm so glad it's thriving because this restaurant really deserves it. Extremely well run and delicious food. I'll be back soon. read more

I found this restaurant to be very enjoyable to my surprise, it is in a strange location but in my opinion a hidden gem! I went with a friend on a Saturday night and the service was superb, everytime my water glass was empty it was immediately filled! We ordered a bottle of white wine and they immediately put it on ice which was nice. I thought it was tastefully decorated and the food was wonderful! We started with the guacamole which they made at our table, not as spicy as I would have liked but still good. Next we had the lobster quesadilla which was pretty awesome, nice and cheesy. My main meal was a Mahi-Mahi special and it was crusted with plantains over two enchiladas filled with crab meat and veggies, interesting combo but it worked well! We were provided bread with a tasty dipping sauce free of charge and and the end of the meal we were delighted to get homemade cookies as a nice treat. Went here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! I can't stop raving about this place, from the ambience to the service everything was top notch. Sangria was on point! I was a bit disappointed when our waiter said there was no octopus since I love that but they redeemed themselves with the Chilean sea bass. My SO had the skirt steak and she said it was good as well. For dessert we had the churros which were crunchy on the outside and so light on the inside! Definitely recommend this place and will be back to try out the rest of the menu, maybe even get to taste some of that octopus! read more

I liked this place the first time I ate here. Decided to come back on my birthday for brunch and I was highly disappointed. At first 5 different waiters came over asking the same questions; once we received our meal, no one came over to check on us again. I looked up this place as they have the boast having happy hour in Westchester. It is from 4-8pm. The food was some of the best I've had. Everyone must try their mofongo appetizer. It actually isn't mofongo. It's a sweet plantain topped with a crispy fried oyster and a saffron mojito sauce. It's served in an oyster shell so you really get all the elements in one bite. I also had the ceviche which is very good as well and the churrasco tacos. The mojitos and margaritas were spot on. Our bartender Hector was a pleasure and the manager came over and was very hospitable and attentive as well. I cannot wait to return. It's rare I visit a restaurant and want to return the following day but I really can see myself as a regular here. read more

Very disappointed with the food and the service tonight . I asked my waiter about the Vegeterian paella dish and he told me it had vegetables and tofu. I particular chose it because of the tofu. When it arrived I asked where the tofu was and he said oh they don't add that any more. Well you should have told me that before you just gave it to me and didn't say a word. And you should have offered something else instead. Then he dropped a dessert menu and disappeared for ages. There were hardly any people around in the restaurant so no reason for the service to be so lousy . I'm afraid I will not be going back. read more

I had high expectations for this place, from the reviews. Staff was very nice but it's just so disorganized. And it wasn't even busy. Food was subpar. I'd maybe recomkend trying some of the happy hour items but that's about it. Drinks were overly sweet and strong. There is a lack of communication with the staff so you have 5 different people asking you if you need something. I just overall was disappointed. Food wasn't memorable. Met some friends Saturday night around 5:00 p.m. it wasn't overly crowded I was concerned because it is a small place. They do have on-site parking it is a small lot but still very convenient. The food delicious and the service was amazing. We got the brussel sprouts salad which I cannot recommend more it was so good!!!!! My friend got the roasted eggplant which she said was delicious and another friend got the coconut shrimp which were huge and very tasty. For drinks we got a Moscow mule and classic margarita which were both very good. For dessert we got the vanilla flan and the cheesecake again excellent!!!!! My wife and I were in the mood for Spanish food, and unfortunately, around here, closest spot is in Norwalk. After looking, we happen to come by Sonora. We always drove by it but never noticed it. It's a fancy place, but they accepted us with jeans and a sweater. We had Antonio as our waiter, and he was very helpful with the menu. We went with his suggestions for beef taco, their version of paella, and their sangria with a twist. They also made guacamole on the spot. We went back tonight, and just had tapas. Luckily we had the same server, Antonio, for the first half. We ordered the grilled octopus, oyster Mofongo, shrimp in garlic sauce, steak taco, and the yuca spring roll. All was a good, but I seriously have to vent at the service. Antonio was switched on us with someone else, who was literally not there. It took us 20 minutes to request the shrimp in garlic sauce. The manager had to literally give the waiter a look to provide service to us. That was the only downfall, and I suggest management get more servers like Antonio. Enjoy the food though, and I suggest going with tapas. Also, they do offer a kids menu. The chicken fingers were delicious. read more

I came here for my dad's birthday party, having been here one time before with a friend. I made reservations through Yelp and to my surprise they have a pre-fix menu Sunday-Thursday and $7 sangrias! Everyone scraped their plate, including my nephew, who is a picky eater with his pasta! From my Colombia pollo organic relleno to the paella and steak, everything was superb. Just make sure your bill is accurate as I think some things are not automatic if you do not ask. Another highlight was the appetizer apples and machengo cheese empanadas were perfection! Tonight was the second time we gave been to Sonora. Tonight is Valentine's day...a test at any restaurant and a day we ritually avoid going out. They had a $49 per person special tonight pre fixe. Appetizer, entree, dessert. We had the duo of ceviche for 2 as a starter. Absolutely spectacular- shrimp with lime, tomato, red onion, cilanto and the second was fresh tuna in coconut milk with fresh spices and red pepper. I had the pork wrapped in b as con with green mole sauce with corn...tender, flavorful. My husband had the branzino on risotto...cooked perfectly with beautiful seasoning. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with fresh strawberries and blackberries....moist and delicious. The service was OUTSTANDING. Attentive, friendly..we couldn't believe they were able to be on top of everything so well and tgebplace was JAMMED. tgey had a live guitarist and trumpet player who were superb, not too loud, excellent jazz. read more

I will NEVER go back! The manager on duty was dismissive & showed NO interest in good customer relations, something that should be the practice for any responsible business. I was only lead to Sonora by their listing for a LUNCH menu as shown on valleytable.com for Restaurant Week through which I also made my reservation. Upon arrival I was told there is no LUNCH RW menu. And, despite showing the web page to the manager, he offered NO apologies nor alternate concession nor respectful acknowledgement of this error. As a new customer, who chose this place based on a POSTED FALSE menu for this day & time there were many managerial gestures he could have made but choose None. Despite this, we decided to stay, a big mistake, as my dessert arrived with a long hair baked right into it, which I did show to the manager who again offered no compensation for this unhygienic plate of food. My friend had to make this suggestion. The Manager represents the business and for this he & the restaurant earn an "F". e further madid exchange with the manager who represents the establishment & sets the tonl see. We went for Happy Hour. Unlike most Mexican restaurants, the frozen margaritas (a steal at $7.00) were the real deal; you could actually taste the alcohol. The number of the "small plate" tapas dishes in the Happy Hour is fairly limited, but the ones chosen by the four of us were truly outstanding. I would give this place 4.5 stars. The outside of the restaurant hides what is inside. They have valet parking which is indicative of a higher end restaurant. Doesn't look like much on the outside but when you go inside you are greeted by a very polite and welcoming host (there seemed to be actually two of them) and very nice décor. Comforting colors and nice tables. So far was impressed. They have al fresco dining but was not the right weeather for it when we went. We started off with the braised short ribs and polenta and the octopus. What can I say, absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Entrees were the Paella ($35 market price) and the Branzino and risotto. The Branzino was cooked with nice crispy skin and risotto with shrimp and mushrooms one of the best I've ever had. The paella was very good with decent amount of seafood but the lobster was a bit too soft for me. I usually like a little more chew with my lobster but overall beautifully presented and delicious. Now as great as the food and décor was, the star of the show was our waiter Holgar. He was very personable and friendly and was always attentive near our table. Now granted we ate early 5:30 pm and restaurant wasn't packed but instead of disappearing he was always nearby watching and waiting to see if we needed anything. It was nice being catered to and he got a great tip overall cause he deserved it. If I were to go back I'd ask to sit in his section. Overall customer service from the hosts to the guy who filled the water and took our plates to Holgar was outstanding. This is what customer service is supposed to be and all restaurants should be like this. read more

The best Latin food in westchester. I've lived in Westchester for 8 years and this is still my go to place when I'm in the mood for a perfect margarita and side of fresh guacamole. The salmon and skirt steak are also amazing. Service is always on point and I've never had a below amazing meal here. Definitely stop by and say "hola" to Omar & Rafael. We had the seafood paella as part of a package. It was the singular worst meal we ever had from. Restaurant. The paella was completely undercooked. They forgot to give dressing for the salad and the cook had burned the deluce de leche cheesecake so they gave us some churros that were no good and a dry brownie. We have eaten at this restaurant many times but du to Covid 19 tried the takeout. What a mistake. Cannot recommend this restaurant for takeout. First time at Sonora and I still have a smile on my face. Sonora is tucked into a residential neighborhood about five minutes from downtown Port Chester. From the minute you entered this honey establishment you are greeted with warm smiles and hospitality. A friend referred this place for my anniversary dinner with the promise of an amazing meal. The food did not disappointment. From the ceviche, the chicken dumplings with the Latin/Caribbean flavors to the kale salad and the short ribs and branzino made our tongues danced. The only thing I did not love was the Spanish inspired risotto, too much cheese/cream, but risotto is a hard dish. The experience was elevated 10 fold by the service and the staffs attention to detail and accommodations when there were little hiccups with the meals. Learning it was our anniversary the owner and manager helped us toast our celebration. It was a lovely gesture that sincerely touched this old married couple. Sonora is a gem. read more

I had hoped to find a real gem in the revitalizing area of Port Chester which is the acclaimed emerging food Mecca of Westchester. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not live up to my hopes for it although it was highly recommended by an acquaintance. First, Sonora's fare is not authentic regional South American cuisine but is instead described as Nuevo Latino. It is also a fine dining restaurant and you'd not find a single local there and more likely would run into people from Chappaqua or Greenwich, Connecticut. That being said you should expect to pay about $30 on up for an entree and about $10 for appetizers. It's a little pricey but if you're a New Yorker you're used to paying for good food. However, what I did not receive in my venture there is the good food part overall. Everyone at my table had some variation of mojito which were overall pretty good as the alcohol was generous and the mint extremely fresh. The fresh guacamole was nothing special nor were most of the appetizers although their ceviche was quite a delight and the star of the evening. The entrees were okay and we sampled from one another's plate and honestly nothing there was worth coming back for and trying again especially as the food was overall pricey. Also, the service left something to be desired as our party and several others seemed to have to wait a long while for our food. The layout is lovely though and would be a nice romantic spot to take someone but as my friend Terry would say, "You can't eat Ambiance." Well, I do have a list of more places to try in Port Chester so hopefully one of these days I'll find something genuinely to rave about. read more

This restaurant is so over-rated! The location is terrible, the food is bland and the service is soooooo average. Specific examples: 1. We didn't get our water refilled the whole time we were there. 2. Someone in our party ordered baked chicken, which was a bit bloody and under cooked. 3. Our bill was $138 for lunch! for 4 people with no dessert and no alcohol that's pricey. Although, not completely outrageous considering the ambience and its Westchester...BUT for that kind of money I expect excellent service and food. 4. We got a salad take out and the bag was dirty and they didn't provide us with a fork/napkin. They really don't deserve all the accolades people give to them. Will NOT be going back. read more

My fiancé and I first came here when restaurants were opening up due to Covid and it was great! We really enjoyed how everything was separated and Covid friendly. But fast forward a year later, we decided to have a family brunch and made reservations a week in advance. And when we arrived it looked like they just closed. Bathrooms were filthy like no one cleaned the night before. Patio was a mess but we still chose to sit on the patio since it was a beautiful day. First problem was the umbrella that they had over our table was broken and did not up all the way. When we asked the waitress she acted like she did not know what to do. So we asked to move to the other table where the umbrella did not look broken. Well that was a mistake bc that umbrella blow away and my fiancé and his brother had to help the waitress pick it up while the other waitress looked dumbfounded! And the manager Omar (who rudely walked away from my fiancé while he was talking to him) did not seem to care or partied way too much the night before to even care. Extremely BAD service! Will not come back nor will we refer anyone anymore. Best of Westerchester my ass! read more
