I love that there is now a Sonoratown closer to me so I don't have to drive all the way to downtown LA... but I'll miss the days of taco runs! The restaurant is located on the bustling street of 3rd street where there is a lot of life and other eateries. Environment - there are tables located inside and outside for your dining pleasure. This location is almost three times bigger than their first one. The line definitely looks long once you walk in but you get to user fairly quickly. Better know what you want to eat! There are also bathrooms in the back :) Service - good! Food - my fave is always the good old tacos! The tortilla skin is out of this world and super thin and delicious. Gone are the days where you get two corn tortillas from a street taco vendor and you failed at peeling off the second tortilla because it's taking away the flavor of the taco lol my husband loves the chivichanga - basically a fresh and never frozen chimichanga. It's really good and he ate two at once... fatty haha the best meats to go inside would be the shredded ones. But when eating a taco, I always opt for the clean taste of a Costillo :) Can't wait to come back. Parking sucks a bit but there are parking structures with free parking for the first two hours. Wanted something yummy on a cold day and stumbled across this place. It's a small restaurant with a cute vibe. My husband and I had the burrito with carne asada and the chips and guacamole. So happy Long Beach has a Sonoratown now! I'd usually drive up to downtown LA for my fix. And now have one that's closer to home. It's still a gem here cause not many people know that it's here. It wasn't crowded at all. I ordered my usual beef chivichanga which is one of the best things ever. The flour tortilla here is unmatched. And the juicy shredded beef is done so right. I also got the steak quesadilla. Which was really good as well. They give you green and red salsas to go with your food. This place is definitely one of my favorite Mexican spots of all time. Decent tacos in downtown Long Beach, but it's not as good as their original downtown LA store. There is free parking for 90 minutes across the street at the Citi parking lot. Beware that their red salsa it's actually spicy. Service is friendly and we went during off peak time, so there was no wait. read more

Honestly, that was one of the best burritos I've ever had. The staff was incredibly friendly and the ambiance was great too. Overrated. I had a chicken and steak taco. The tacos tasted fresh but it was bland. There was no seasoning on the meat. The horchata is nasty. It actually gives a coconut taste. Holy c*rp this place is good!! Very Sonora style with flour tortillas and cabbage on the dishes. We had caramelos and tacos and then ordered more tacos. And then ordered more tacos. I spoke of canceling our family dinner to instead come here. Be aware that the salsa is genuinely spicy. One of the many benefits of how good these guys are. Line was slow but staff did work overtime. Menu simple, pictures available for clarity and transparency. I had Burrito and chips and guacamole thinking, burrito may not be enough. Ah, but it was. Sonoratown is a welcome addition to Downtown Long Beach. Sadly, tonight my Cabeza Burrito was basically inedible. Instead of succulent braised beef there were large hunks of fat. Not fatty meat, just straight up inedible fat pieces. The Cabeza is my go-to item that I crave, so it was disappointing. It was also my Father's Day treat so it stung a little deeper. Sonoratown generally rocks, but there is some inconsistency it seems and the burritos aren't cheap. This one hurt a bit. read more

I love this place. I used to go to the one in downtown Los Angeles all the time when I found out, they opened one in downtown Long Beach. This became my new favorite one to go to because it's local sometimes me and my daughter walk here we love a side of tacos and the fresh Aqua Frisco's.. customer service is always great. Heard good things about this taco place and excited they opened a location in LB. Parking was easy as there was a parking structure across the street that offered 2 hours of free parking. I went on a weekday during lunch and it was busy. I ordered three tacos- chicken, steak, and chorizo. They were all good, especially enjoyed the red and green salsa they added on each taco. I do warn it's pretty spicy though. The tortilla was fresh and handmade and you can really taste the difference. Overall, a great place to get Mexican food and can't wait to come back! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Teo D.

I was born in San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora Mexico. When I emigrated to the US- I powerfully missed the food from where I grew up. When I met my girlfriend Jen in 2006, I drove her to San Luis and told her that I would open a taqueria one day that paid homage to the taquerias in my hometown. We opened our first location in Downtown LA’s fashion district, back in 2016. In Sonora, tacos tend to come on flour tortillas made with Sonoran wheat and lard- not corn. We use a more fatty and less lean cut of meat for our carne asada- because we believe fat is flavor- especially when you are cooking with a real wood flame. Our salsas are family recipes and instead of using onion and cilantro, we top our tacos with shredded cabbage. It is an honor to share a bit of Sonora with you.

They have a sit-down restaurant, a karaoke room, and even a walk-up window outside if you're just looking to grab something quickly. They're known for their tacos and their spicy habanero salsa, which definitely is spicy, be warned. LOL If you're dining inside, the chips and salsa are top-tier. Sooooo good and addicting! My personal favorite is the shrimp quesadillas. They're tiny, but mighty when it comes to flavor! I also like ordering their oysters. So far, they've always been clean, fresh, and hit the spot. They also have Micheladas, both the traditional version made with alcohol and a non-alcoholic version made with mineral water. Both are really good, and I highly recommend giving them a try! And for dessert, the rice pudding is served cold, and it's honestly one of the best I've had. Everyone I've brought here has been happy with their food and their choices, which says a lot because I've brought many friends and family here. As far as parking goes, you can usually find street parking, there's a parking lot, and there's also parking behind the restaurant. I will say the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but if you're local, it's really not a big deal. If you're coming from outside the city and aren't familiar with the area, I'd recommend just dining inside. There's a lot of homeless and liquor store activities across the street. It's usually not a big deal, but again if you're not used to it, you may freak out. Overall, El Sauz is one of my go-to spots for the late-night munchies, post concert, club, bar etc.

I've been to Sonora Town twice now, and it's about time I write a review for this local gem! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and welcoming vibe, everyone here is super friendly and kind. Sadly, they seemed to have paused that location indefinitely, and I miss the absolute heck out of it. I really hope they come back. But I figure given it's the same people making the same food, I can review their current location, anyway - and given they're across town instead of down the street, I don't have to be conflicted whether I want word to be out about how fantastic their burritos are, vs worrying that it could cause there to be a line to get one. It is funny that they call themselves "Tacos Uziel", though, given their tacos are... fine. They're not bad tacos. I'd even go so far as to say that they're good tacos. Not huge, though, for the price, and while their meat is quite good, as are their salsas, after trying them once, I never got tacos again, because their burritos are literally my current gold standard for what the absolute best possible burrito looks like. I also tried their torta once, a while ago. Their tortas are also good, but they also aren't their burritos. Their burritos might well be the best burritos in California. Certainly the best *value* burritos in California, given in addition to being wonderful, they're also *massive*. You have to be pretty hungry to eat a whole one in one sitting, which I usually do and then regret it slightly. Anyway, reasons why this is the best burrito ever, other than being massive: 1. Their rice and beans are great. 2 2. They have suadero! Stewed in a big pot, just like the first and best suadero I ever had, from a famous taco stall in Mexico City. (La Brasita *has* suadero, but while they may make the best al pastor in the city, their suadero is bland and dry. The suadero here is almost too decadently rich to eat on its own in a burrito. 3. At no additional cost, you can get a burrito that's half and half of two meats. Their asada is also my gold standard for what great asada should be, and mixing their suadero and asada together is a... life-changingly good combo. (And each of the two halves are still more meat than I've gotten from some, much more mediocre burrito merchants in the past.) Their carnitas is also quite good, though I pretty much always got asada + suadero, once I discovered how wonderfully they went together. 4. At no additional cost, they'll griddle cheese *onto* the inside of the tortilla. Until I had the burritos here, my favorite burrito *had* been the breakfast burrito Lowkey used to make (RIP Lowkey :(), which griddled cheese onto the *outside* of a giant tortilla. Griddled cheese in a burrito is great, it turns out it's way less messy if it's the inside, though. These burritos are also way less money than Lowkey used to charge for his, and he charged extra for the cheese, too, lol. Super good. 5. After putting in the rice, beans, meat and cheese, they hand you the open burrito so you can add your own toppings to it directly, before they wrap it. Toppings include several salsas, ranging from hot to very hot, all very tasty, which it is nice being able to ladle directly into the burrito directly. They *also* include cooked/sliced onions as well as the traditional raw onion/cilantro mix, and on top of that, grilled nopal! You can add as much grilled onion and nopal as you want as well, also at no extra cost. (Though I did learn my lesson, if you add too much, your burrito *will* become top-heavy and fall apart.) 6. Assuming you don't do that, for how much they stuff these burritos with, they are *pros* at structural engineering. These burritos look like they'll fall apart, but they *don't* fall apart. 7. They're $10. ($8 on Wednesday.) That is a *steal*. Uziel, please don't change! (Except, come back to downtown. Please do change in that respect!)

They serve it with a side of their spicy mayo and green salsa for dipping. They're known for their empanadas, so we had to try some of these too! We got a Baked Chicken, Chicken Curry, Beef, and Ropa Vieja. Their Beef and Chicken are some of their most popular. The Beef Emapanda has spicy ground beef, onions, and potatoes, and their Chicken Empanada has shredded chicken, mild spicy creamy yellow chili sauce, onions, potatoes, and mozzarella cheese. The Chicken Curry is one of their newer empanadas and has diced chicken thighs cooked in mild spicy curry and coconut milk, steamed rice, bell peppers, onions, and cilantro.
