I arrived at 2 pm and made it to the register at 3 pm. 2 people cut in front of me as I was about to order and asked for refunds because they apparently had been waiting for over 2 hrs. It would be nice if the staff warned the people in line, but the reason I found out about the wait was because those other 2 customes complained. Then while I waited I saw them take orders without telling anyone about the wait. So I guess if you go make sure you are not starving because you will wait. Then the food. I waited 55 minutes for my order because I only ordered tacos and a quesadilla. I ordered al pastor, ribeye and asada. The ribeye is their most expensive meat but it was somehow the most disappointing one. I didn't like the quesadilla, it came out cold and very little cheese, the tacos al pastor were good but unfortunately I got 90% of fat and very little meat. So i couldn't eat most of it since it was all grease. Now, the restaurant was pretty clean, I liked the music. And staff was friendly, they just need ti improve their operations, because even though the food is good, it is not good enough to make you wait 2 hrs for it read more

I was debating if I wanted to give a 3 or 4 stars for my review. I feel like it's more somewhere in between, but also I feel like they don't necessarily deserve a "3". First of all, I've seen it everywhere on my social media. It looked viral and people would line up for the place. I thought, whatever, there's a lot of taco places in this city. I'm sure it's just the same. Well one day my coworker mentioned it to me and how he really recommended it. So I decided to go. Even better, it's a walking distance from where I was. I always did my research before ordering food at a place, so I decided to get the recommended tacos: picanha, ribeye, top sirloin, and al pastor. We also got a horchata, chips and guacamole, and a side of rice. They have a little section for you to get the salsas. The line thankfully wasn't that bad when we were there on Thursday night. I guess the crowd had died down. Altho there's still plenty of people inside. The seating area is kinda weird. It's so close together and people and their dogs were so close to my table that I really felt like someone or a dog could easily snatch my food from the table haha. I really liked the chips and guacamole. The chips have some seasoning. Guac was tasty. Rice was cooked well. Nothing special though. Now the tacos: my favorite was the ribeye taco and it has a spread of guac underneath it. So juicy, really yummy. Al pastor was flavorful, that was my bf's favorite. The top sirloin and picanha looked really similar, I could barely differentiate them. They tasted dry to me. Maybe it's overcooked? Maybe it was too lean of a meat? Not sure. Not impressed by them. The total order was $41 before tip. It was pricey. I think it's still good to try, but I'm not sure if I would come back. Maybe I'd go again just for the ribeye. It's 4% cheaper if you pay cash. The tacos were really good and flavorful, and I especially enjoyed the handmade tortillas. The food itself is definitely worth trying! The biggest downside was the wait. For how busy this location gets, it seemed like only 1-2 people were responsible for preparing and putting together most of the orders, which didn't seem very efficient. You could tell several customers were becoming frustrated with the wait. I do want to emphasize that this is not the staff's fault. They were clearly working very hard and doing their best to keep up, and unfortunately they sometimes end up receiving the frustration from customers. I would suggest that management reevaluate the way orders are prepared and handed out and consider restructuring the workflow, especially during busy hours. We arrived at Los Tacos Trompos at 8:25 PM and ordered 8 tacos. Our total came to $44, but we didn't receive our food until 9:00 PM. The restaurant was extremely crowded, and people were constantly searching for somewhere to sit. There was also a funky smell inside that made the dining experience less enjoyable. The condiment station was poorly maintained. The utensils were left inside the onions, cilantro, and salsas, making everything feel unsanitary. Overall, the restaurant didn't appear to be very clean. As for the food, the asada tacos were nothing special and actually lacked flavor. The same was true for the al pastor and arrachera tacos. After the long wait and the price we paid, the food was very disappointing. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. Not gatekeeping. THIS is easily my low-key favorite taco shop in Long Beach. I first heard about this spot on Instagram, and after having it on my radar for a while, I'm so glad I finally checked it out. Not only was their CALIFORNIA BURRITO with ARRACHERA absolutely DELICIOUS, but it was also comically MASSIVE. While waiting for my order to be built, I hit the salsa station and loaded up a tray with three different sauces and a generous handful of pico de gallo. I saw this restaurant on Instagram. The person reviewing their food gave it great reviews. The first time we went to the restaurant the line was soooo long we decided to try another day. We were in the area on a Sunday only to find out they are closed on Sundays. So Sat., Aug. 3 after hanging out at the Long Beach Pier we tried the third time and the line was short so we ordered some tacos. The location is small but nice. It was basically clean but they could use some fly spray by the windows and someone to check the condiment bar more often as it easily gets messy. Customer service was terrible. The young lady behind the cash register on Sat. between 5-6:30 pm treated everyone poorly. She never smiled. She never greeted you with a hello, just cash or card then she took your order. She offered no thank you at the completion of your transaction. She was very dry. However, like I said she consistently did this to everyone except the celebrity we saw that day. Now on to the food. We ordered a carne asada burrito, 2 carne asada tacos, 1 pastor taco and 1 picanha taco. The tortillas are really good. The are homemade thin, grilled yellow corn tortillas with such a good flavor. I could eat several of them alone. The carne asada was tender, non-greasy but bland. The picanha was tender as well but bland and too fatty for my taste. My husband said the pastor was greasy and bland. I liked the fresh sliced cucumbers, radishes and the pickled onions Overall I gave it a two star due to the poor customer service and the blandness of the meat. My friends and I saw Los trompos all over TikTok and have been dying to try it. The first time we drove by the line was out the door and even til when we waited in line it was still really long. We arrived at 7pm and waited for 50 minutes to take our order. While waiting in the line I saw the fries w/ meat and decided to get it along with 2 tacos. I order fries with the Picanha and 1 ribeye taco and 1 al pastor taco. Afterwards we waited for about another 15-20 minutes to get our food. The fries with Picanha was loaded with meat and I would recommend getting it with the white cheese instead of the nacho cheese (unless you like it a bit saltier). The ribeye taco came with guacamole and onions and the al pastor had pineapple as well. This place went viral recently, so we decided to give it a try. We went on a Thursday evening, and the line was out the door. We planned on getting our food to go, which worked out because all the tables were already occupied. We waited 45 minutes to order our food and another 45 minutes to get our order. This was the longest I've ever waited for tacos. The tacos were unique because they put a whole piece of meat in them. I had a ribeye taco, which came with guacamole, and a picanha taco, which was served plain. The tortillas were homemade. There is also a condiment bar with three types of salsa (mild, medium, and hot), pickled onions, onions, cilantro, and radishes. I topped my tacos with onions, cilantro, and salsa verde. The meats were delicious and so moist. I liked the picanha better than the ribeye because it was charred, which I really like. The tortillas were good, and I'm glad they didn't rip apart, which has been my experience with some homemade tortillas. The picanha was about $5 and the ribeye was $6.25, which I thought was fair given the quality of the meat. I also ordered chips and guacamole. The chips were delicious and had pieces of carnitas, so I assume they cook them in the oil used to make the carnitas. The guacamole was creamy and good as well. The only thing keeping me from rating them 5 stars is the efficiency of the service. Our first visit and we were blown away. There was a bit of a line, understandably, but it went rather quickly. You order at the counter, with the menu above you. Painless, easy, and straight to the point. We ordered one top sirloin, two ribeye, two al pastor, and one chorizo taco (the chorizo was with cheese). Paired them with all of the available options from the salsa bar, and out of all the tacos the top sirloin was easily our favorite. Al pastor was second, chorizo third, and ribeye last. Stopped by here i think i was one of their first customers for the day. This place has long lines specially on Tuesday i couldn't find an order online and pick up in store as of today but perhaps on the future they will implement it. Since the meats are carved i think it takes a little longer than one expects tacos to take they probably need to streamline this process to cut down customer wait times but the meat was worth the wait. We came across this place from a Tik Tok review that went viral. We got here at 6:20pm on a Friday and did not leave until 8:15pm with our food. We ordered take out. It took us an hour to event get to the register. If the line is out the door and passing jimmy John's that is the wait you will expect. And the wait isn't even brought on by the guests, it's the establishment. In the middle of dinner they drained their oil and replaced it entirely. Causing this set back with all fried foods. My fries were cold. This place was not worth the two hours of wait. Save yourself your time and go elsewhere if you ever see the line out the door. In addition eating inside is terrible. Overcrowded, not cleaned well, and it's clearly not designed to cater to providing any type of service. We got the Cali burrito and some tacos. The Cali burrito was not good. Avoid it at all costs. Or if you do please add something other than asada. All you'll taste is cold fries. The taco meat we got were tasty. I believe we got the three premium meats from the center of the menu. However for how expensive it is, the amount of meat you get is not worth it. They charge $4 a taco! Again, avoid this place who has not grasped the way of operating, has the messiest salsa bar you will ever see, and a cashier who will forget to charge you up for things you asked for. We ordered an horchata and she forgot to charge it. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS, GO TO A TACO CART VENDOR INSTEAD!!! You will be happier and have so much more time and money left. Long Beach is a really interesting place for tacos, and Los Trompos Taqueria--which opened just a few weeks ago in Downtown--is one of its most unique new additions. What sets Trompos apart is its focus on Mexico City-style tacos cooked on a trompo (vertical spit). I actually just spent the past week in Mexico City. One of the most memorable bites I had there was a picanha taco off the trompo at La Once Mil in Polanco. What's interesting is that this isn't a taco you see everywhere--even in Mexico City. But it is the signature taco at Los Trompos, which made this visit a must. I have to say that the tacos are different; however, the picanha taco here absolutely delivers. The meat is juicy, well-seasoned, and served on a handmade corn tortilla. It's also the only taco they serve pre-dressed--with guacamole and grilled onions--while they instruct you to dress up your other tacos at their well-stocked salsa bar. I tried four tacos (picanha, al pastor, ribeye, and arrachera). All were solid, but the picanha clearly stood out and is the one I'd come back for. Add some salsa and a squeeze of lime, and it really comes together. I also appreciate the handmade corn tortillas. Unfortunately, I couldn't clearly differentiate between the ribeye and arrachera, despite their price difference. I'd also like to see a bit more textural contrast - either from a stronger sear from the outer layers of the trompo or some added crispness from the tortilla or some other element (chicharron, tortilla chip, chapulines, etc). Long Beach is lucky to have a wide range of regional taco styles--from Sonoran and Sinaloan influences to Tijuana street tacos, with growing representation from Mexico City, Jalisco, Ensenada, and even the Yucatán. My buddy hit me up and sent me a link. "You wanna check this place out?" I clicked on it, and it was a brand-new taco spot. I figured, why not? So off we went. As soon as we got there, we saw a line wrapping out onto the sidewalk. That's usually a good sign when you're chasing great food. Thankfully, the line moved pretty quickly. Once inside, though, I noticed another crowd--people standing around waiting for their orders. The menu prices are definitely higher than your average taco shop, but I don't mind paying a little extra if the food delivers. I ordered the Gaonera Ribeye, the Sirloin taco, and a drink. After grabbing salsa, limes, and all the extras, the next challenge was finding an open table and chair. My only real complaint was the ticket time. The staff was hustling nonstop, but the food just wasn't coming out fast enough. They could really use a better system for announcing when orders are ready. Between the packed dining room, the music, and the TVs, it was almost impossible to hear your number being called. Oddly enough, I actually enjoyed the chaos. The ribeye taco was amazing too super tender with great flavor. My favorite of the night had to be the picanha taco. It was incredibly soft, juicy, and packed with savory flavor. The only taco that didn't quite hit for me was the arrachera. It was still good, but it was a little tougher than the rest. The handmade tortillas deserve a shoutout on their own. They really elevate every taco and hold everything together perfectly. The salsas had an awesome kick without overpowering the meat, and washing everything down with an ice-cold Mexican Coke was the perfect combo. One thing I'll say is don't be fooled by the meat being shaved off the trompo it might look like a lighter taco at first, but they're actually loaded and surprisingly filling. Checked out this new spot in downtown Long Beach and overall had a solid experience. Service stood out, the cashier was patient, friendly, and helpful. We tried a few tacos, and the ribeye was the definitely the highlight. Super flavorful and well seasoned. The al pastor was good, and the carne asada was just okay. Note that guacamole is extra, but they give you a side that's enough for about 2-3 tacos. The also have aguas frescas (jamaica, horchata, piña). I tried the pepino, it was a big sweet at first, but once the ice melted, it balanced out nicely. You can tell they're still working on their system. At times they called out numbers and brought food to tables, and other times you picked it up at the window. Parking might be tricky since it's on a one-way street. The restaurant is very small, and the ordering line made the space feel extremely crowded. Parking is located in a parking structure, although they do offer validation. The employee who took our order seemed to have an attitude and made the interaction uncomfortable. The tables were not being cleaned or disinfected between customers, and people were sitting down as soon as others left. The salsa bar was also messy and poorly stocked. There was no salsa, cilantro, onion, or napkins available. When we asked the cashier for napkins, she responded with an attitude. As for the food, the tacos were just average and, in my opinion, not worth the hype. Most lacked flavor. The picaña taco was the best, followed by the asada. I came here last night and, unfortunately, left extremely disappointed. For context, I've been here at least three times, and my first experience was actually what kept me coming back. The first time I visited, the cuts of meat were delicious--well cooked, tender, flavorful, and practically melt-in-your-mouth. The tacos were also generously filled and large enough that I usually only needed two. They aren't cheap, but considering the portion and quality I was getting at the time, I genuinely didn't mind paying the price. My second visit wasn't quite as impressive as the first, but the food was still good enough that I wanted to return. After last night, however, I unfortunately don't think I'll be coming back. The first thing I noticed was that the tacos have gotten significantly smaller and were barely filled compared with my previous visits. I had just been here the prior month, and I don't remember them being anywhere near this small. For the price, the change was very noticeable. The biggest disappointment, though, was the meat itself. I ordered picanha, ribeye, and al pastor, and I ended up throwing away all three tacos after only taking a bite or two. The picanha was overwhelmingly oily and fatty. I've had picanha many times, including in Brazil, and what I received was nothing like the quality of picanha I expected. My first bite was essentially a mouthful of rendered fat/oil, and my partner had the same reaction. I put that taco aside and moved on to the ribeye, hoping it would be better, but unfortunately I had the same issue. It felt like the taco was roughly 70% fat and 30% actual meat. Finally, I tried the al pastor, and the flavor was extremely disappointing. It was honestly one of the least enjoyable al pastor tacos I've had in quite some time. As someone who cooks and is familiar with different cuts of meat, the overall quality gave me the impression that much lower-quality or fattier portions are now being used, despite premium cuts like ribeye and picanha still being advertised and priced accordingly. Obviously, I can only speak to what I was served, but the difference from my first visit was dramatic. I understand restaurants are dealing with rising food and operating costs, and I'm generally willing to pay more for good food. What I can't justify is paying premium prices while both the portion size and meat quality seem to have declined this significantly. It's genuinely disappointing because I really enjoyed this place when I first discovered it and had recommended it based on that experience. Unfortunately, based on what I was served last night, I can no longer recommend it. At this price point, I'd rather take my business elsewhere--even a good taco truck on PCH. My boyfriend and I both got the California burrito, and we also tried a few tacos. The asada tacos were packed with meat and really flavorful. The star of the meal, though, was definitely the pastor. I loved watching it get shaved right off the trompo, and the pineapple on top was the perfect finishing touch. We also tried the quesa tacos, which are basically extra cheesy quesadilla-style tacos, and they were delicious. One thing I really appreciated was the toppings bar. They have a great selection of salsas, plus radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and other fresh toppings so you can customize everything exactly how you like it. It's in the name: those cones of roasted meat on a vertical spit, carved to order, presented to you in different formats. That's what I tried to get here on my first visit during lunchtime for take-out, and the food was delicious, but pricey. I live within easy walking distance and had been to this building (it's across the street from the LB courthouse and the unit used to house a Dickey's BBQ). Didn't realize it had opened until reading a Yelp friend's review, so made the walk over to pick up some tacos. It was fairly busy when I came before lunch rush hour. One orders/pays first, then wait for your order to be prepared and called out. There is a bit of seating inside, and it's an open kitchen with 4 trompos clearly visible. Three different aqua frescas are offered, otherwise, it's bottled and canned soda only. It's a good self-serve salsa bar, with a lot of various things to grab and package while one is waiting for their order. The three salsas range from a spicy tomatillo, to a medium molcajete salsa, to a very hot habanero. There is also pico de gallo for the timid. Pickled red onions, lime wedges, chopped cilantro, chopped white onion, slice radish and sliced cucumbers round out the offerings. The to-go packaging is smart, with the needed plastic condiment cups and lids right there, but also paper trays and single sheet aluminum foil for the non-sauces. My purpose was to sample the meats on the trompos, so focused on the ones with beef (the 4th is the typical al pastor). Picanha, top sirloin, and arrachera (skirt steak) were my choices, all on mulitas ($6.50 normally, a bit less if paying by cash). Have found at other places where mulitas are offered, that they could often be the best value since stuffing them with meat is more possible than for a taco. Not so much here: wouldn't call the amount of meat to be generous, but it was enough. The picanha and arrachera were the best, and the ones I would try again. They do have the premium option of ribeye ($7.27 for the multitas) which I skipped today, but looks like those come with grilled onions (which would have been fire with this beef). All the trompos are the electric kind so didn't get the charring that occurs with the gas fired ones that are used in an outdoor setting (and makes a cool show, especially at night). But this is the only Mexican place I've been to that had 4 trompos going at the same time, either. Super happy that this is so close by, and hoping to stop by whenever I can. read more

The restaurant was full and I really had high hopes for this place. I had a sope and it was ok. The asada tacos were really greasy. My kids didn't want to eat them. We also tried the picaña meat and it was stale already. I guess it had been sitting for a while. The strawberry agua was really good. read more

Omfg this was SO GOOOOOD. New taco place near where I live so I walked over for lunch. It was so fresh, literally hot off the grill. There's a self service area for sauces and other toppings. I just got diced onions, pickled onions, cilantro and limes. There were plenty of seats. Mostly 4 people tables. I will definitely be back! read more

Bland food Long line Fatty/tough beef I was extremely disappointed with my experience. I waited almost **1 1/2 ** for my order and then received the wrong order. To make matters worse, there was no way to resolve the issue because I couldn't reach the restaurant. I called multiple times at (562) 247-1084, but no one answered. We specifically requested **no cheese sauce** on our burritos, yet they arrived covered in it. The meat was fatty, tough, lacked seasoning, and did not resemble the "prime" meat that was advertised. Overall, the food was bland and of poor quality. Unfortunately, after eating the meal, both I and members of my family experienced upset stomachs. For the amount of money we spent, I expected much better quality and service. Between the long wait, incorrect order, inability to reach the restaurant, and disappointing food, this was a very frustrating experience. I hope the restaurant improves its order accuracy, food quality, customer service, and communication so future customers don't have a similar experience. read more

Wow!! Is the perfect 3 letter word to describe the quality of their cuts of meat!! The arrachera was soooooo tender and flavorful! We also got the picahna again very tender and flavorful! We loved the fact that they ask how we'd like our tacos de tripa, soft or crunchy. The little salsa bar is great too. read more

The picanha tacos are hands down the best I've ever had. The meat was incredibly tender, melted in your mouth, and was packed with flavor. Every bite was amazing. Be prepared, this place gets crowded and the line can be long. We waited over an hour, but I'd do it again without hesitation. They're absolutely worth the wait. read more
