Finally had the chance to try this place recently after hearing raves from my colleagues. This place replaced Dickies BBQ. There were always a long line the few times after they just opened and I never got the chance to check them out until recently (last week) and since then, I came back twice!! So, they are definitely on the pricier side. However, they offer a discounted cash price for all of their items so if you want the discount, bring cash. Also, the service is super wonderful! I love everyone who works there! Super nice. I love that they have a fresh salsa bar for you to pack/get your own salsa and everything else in between. They sell glass bottle Coke, which I always prefer over the American can version. My favorites are the burrito (not the cali one, too much) and tacos, with arrechera, top sirloin, and rib eyes! So good!!!!!

Cali Burrito - Sloppiness to The Fullest.

I'll give this place 3 stars. I like the concept and this was my second time going. The first time, I ordered a quesadilla and a Cali burrito. They messed up the Cali burrito and gave me a regular asada burrito instead. I ignored it and just ate it, but the al pastor was very dry. Second time, I ordered the same thing again. Unfortunately, the Cali burrito came out looking like a complete mess. It was so sloppy and falling apart that I couldn't even eat it. I honestly don't understand how a cook thinks it's acceptable to serve a burrito like that. At this point, I guess they're just not very good at making burritos. The al pastor was dry again, the salsas weren't very good, and overall the food just doesn't match the price point. Too expensive for the quality you get. I probably should've asked for my money back, but I was already home by the time I opened it.

Tacos were good I'm loving their al pastor the asada was too greasy for me. I ordered the horchata it was pretty good too. I only got two tacos and I'm glad I did because they were pretty big and they aren't cheap in price either so you're getting your moneys worth. It's street parking on Broadway only and there is plenty of seating inside. The customer service kind of sucked they kept forgetting if we asked for it to go or for here. Also, the girl asked me if i ordered tacos and how many? Then some guy was calling out numbers and he tried to give me a burrito just because I made eye contact with him. I could have easily said yes it's Mine but no I wanted my tacos!! We went pretty late on a Thursday night like 15 min before closing which I also do NOT recommend.

Long Beach is a really interesting place for tacos, and Los Trompos Taqueria--which opened just a few weeks ago in Downtown--is one of its most unique new additions. What sets Trompos apart is its focus on Mexico City-style tacos cooked on a trompo (vertical spit). I actually just spent the past week in Mexico City. One of the most memorable bites I had there was a picanha taco off the trompo at La Once Mil in Polanco. What's interesting is that this isn't a taco you see everywhere--even in Mexico City. But it is the signature taco at Los Trompos, which made this visit a must. I have to say that the tacos are different; however, the picanha taco here absolutely delivers. The meat is juicy, well-seasoned, and served on a handmade corn tortilla. It's also the only taco they serve pre-dressed--with guacamole and grilled onions--while they instruct you to dress up your other tacos at their well-stocked salsa bar. I tried four tacos (picanha, al pastor, ribeye, and arrachera). All were solid, but the picanha clearly stood out and is the one I'd come back for. Add some salsa and a squeeze of lime, and it really comes together. I also appreciate the handmade corn tortillas. Unfortunately, I couldn't clearly differentiate between the ribeye and arrachera, despite their price difference. I'd also like to see a bit more textural contrast - either from a stronger sear from the outer layers of the trompo or some added crispness from the tortilla or some other element (chicharron, tortilla chip, chapulines, etc). Long Beach is lucky to have a wide range of regional taco styles--from Sonoran and Sinaloan influences to Tijuana street tacos, with growing representation from Mexico City, Jalisco, Ensenada, and even the Yucatán. (Note: street parking can be tough, but they offer validated parking at IMT Gallery 421--check the photos for details.)

Checked out this new spot in downtown Long Beach and overall had a solid experience. Service stood out, the cashier was patient, friendly, and helpful. We tried a few tacos, and the ribeye was the definitely the highlight. Super flavorful and well seasoned. The al pastor was good, and the carne asada was just okay. Note that guacamole is extra, but they give you a side that's enough for about 2-3 tacos. The also have aguas frescas (jamaica, horchata, piña). I tried the pepino, it was a big sweet at first, but once the ice melted, it balanced out nicely. You can tell they're still working on their system. At times they called out numbers and brought food to tables, and other times you picked it up at the window. Parking might be tricky since it's on a one-way street. I got lucky with a spot out front, but went around 7:30pm on a Sunday.

It's in the name: those cones of roasted meat on a vertical spit, carved to order, presented to you in different formats. That's what I tried to get here on my first visit during lunchtime for take-out, and the food was delicious, but pricey. I live within easy walking distance and had been to this building (it's across the street from the LB courthouse and the unit used to house a Dickey's BBQ). Didn't realize it had opened until reading a Yelp friend's review, so made the walk over to pick up some tacos. It was fairly busy when I came before lunch rush hour. One orders/pays first, then wait for your order to be prepared and called out. There is a bit of seating inside, and it's an open kitchen with 4 trompos clearly visible. Three different aqua frescas are offered, otherwise, it's bottled and canned soda only. It's a good self-serve salsa bar, with a lot of various things to grab and package while one is waiting for their order. The three salsas range from a spicy tomatillo, to a medium molcajete salsa, to a very hot habanero. There is also pico de gallo for the timid. Pickled red onions, lime wedges, chopped cilantro, chopped white onion, slice radish and sliced cucumbers round out the offerings. The to-go packaging is smart, with the needed plastic condiment cups and lids right there, but also paper trays and single sheet aluminum foil for the non-sauces. My purpose was to sample the meats on the trompos, so focused on the ones with beef (the 4th is the typical al pastor). Picanha, top sirloin, and arrachera (skirt steak) were my choices, all on mulitas ($6.50 normally, a bit less if paying by cash). Have found at other places where mulitas are offered, that they could often be the best value since stuffing them with meat is more possible than for a taco. Not so much here: wouldn't call the amount of meat to be generous, but it was enough. The picanha and arrachera were the best, and the ones I would try again. They do have the premium option of ribeye ($7.27 for the multitas) which I skipped today, but looks like those come with grilled onions (which would have been fire with this beef). All the trompos are the electric kind so didn't get the charring that occurs with the gas fired ones that are used in an outdoor setting (and makes a cool show, especially at night). But this is the only Mexican place I've been to that had 4 trompos going at the same time, either. Super happy that this is so close by, and hoping to stop by whenever I can.

Omfg this was SO GOOOOOD. New taco place near where I live so I walked over for lunch. It was so fresh, literally hot off the grill. There's a self service area for sauces and other toppings. I just got diced onions, pickled onions, cilantro and limes. There were plenty of seats. Mostly 4 people tables. I will definitely be back!

Wow!! Is the perfect 3 letter word to describe the quality of their cuts of meat!! The arrachera was soooooo tender and flavorful! We also got the picahna again very tender and flavorful! We loved the fact that they ask how we'd like our tacos de tripa, soft or crunchy. The little salsa bar is great too.

I haven't been there in the morning, but definitely don't recommend the trompo meats in the late afternoon. it has all been sitting out all day and does not taste fresh at all. good news is that I didn't get food poisoning, so that's a plus. Besides the pico de gallo which was pretty standard, all of the salsas recipes are terrible. The corn tortillas, although made fresh, are way too thick and mealy. The stuffed potato was great and seems like it could easily be split into a meal for 2.

Picanha burrito. Really good especially with the green salsa.

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try after my shift in Long Beach. I tried 3 tacos; the sirloin, the picanha, and arrachera. Honestly couldn't really tell a difference in flavor but they were all good and super tender. I got two picanha burritos to go afterwards. Service was great and fast. Place was chill and clean but parking may be tricky. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

    All Four Trompo Meats

Fantastic Trompo Meats & Massive Quesadillas! This place was really good! The first thing that blew me away was their "homemade corn tortillas", you can absolutely taste the difference when they are made fresh. The Portions & Plates The Quesadillas: Absolutely massive! Be prepared for a huge portion that you can really sink your teeth into. The Tacos: Really good overall, and they do not skimp on the meat. The portions here are very generous. The Meat Sample Feast I decided to sample all of their trompo meats. When they brought out my plate, the server kindly pointed out which meat was which, but by the time I sat down to eat, I completely forgot! Here is how they stack up: Al Pastor (3/5): This one was just okay for me. It was missing that distinct, punchy seasoning that immediately takes you back to the street taco vendors in Mexico. Picanha (3.5/5): The flavor was good, but the cut of meat was a little on the tougher side. Arrachera & Top Sirloin (5/5): Absolutely amazing! The depth of flavor in both of these cuts was incredible. Eating these immediately transported me right back to the neighborhood where I grew up in Mexico. They are a must-order! The Verdict: Between the giant portions, the amazing salsa bar toppings, and those nostalgia-inducing meats, Los Trompos is well worth a visit. I'll definitely be back for more Arrachera and Top Sirloin!

Whoa... this place blew my mind in flavor, service, value, clean establishment and friendly service. The tacos were so flavorful and the meat was juicy and tender. It was definitely busy, but the service is fast. Loved every bit of it. Salsa bar was clean and kept full. Very satisfying. I will be back very soon.

For someone like me from Mexico city I really recommend this place, is really good taste just like the tacos I always have in Mexico city. Easy park for being a Friday night and the customer service is great. Si vienes de visita a long beach y quieres unos auténticos tacos como la ciudad de Mexico este es el lugar indicado!!! El personal es muy agradable y la comida esta buenísima!!. Gracias por el buen servicio.

The tacos were great, with a nice charred flavor and plenty of meat. I highly recommend the ribeye for meat lovers.

The tacos were bomb and the service was fast. The only downside was the fact that the facility didn't have a restroom.

We ordered caramelos with the poblanos inside, as well as their horchata. Tortillas are some of the best I've had. Super soft and flavorful from the grill. The fillings and salsa were good too, but it was really wet, and the bean ratio especially compared to the meat, was a little off. Always am going to want more meat. Horchata was unique since it was coconut based. Overall solid spot with patient staff. Tacos La Rueda is still better, but will be back when in Long Beach.
