The extra 1/2 star is because they have turnip greens and many places don't. That said, it's more the processed greens than the homemade kind that is thicker and more flavorful. The brisket was mostly good. A little dry and too much fat though. I prefer juicer, lean cuts. This had some nice meaty pieces. But, just didn't completely hit the mark on taste. Sons of Smoke has a great local following and appears to be family-run, which I appreciate. Their namesake smoke on the ribs was excellent, with a great char and deep flavor. However the meat itself was quite dry, almost grainy in texture, that their sweet and hot barbecue sauces couldn't save. I enjoyed the Friday special, the pork tenderloin sandwich. It was pounded very thin and breaded well so that it had both a crunch and was chewy. The rest of the food, while cooked well, was bland and lacked flavor overall, including the green beans, onion rings, pulled pork, and baked potato. I decided to come in and try the country fried chicken with green beans and baked potato and it was very good. Hubby got the three meat sampler with slaw and onion rings. I can honestly say it was really good. We loved the onion rings even though they weren't on our cardiac diet but, we had to try them anyways. The chicken fried chicken was very tender and breaded like grandma used to do it, very homemade taste, a little bland could use some sort of seasoning but overall good. Hubby said the BBQ pork, beef and ribs were excellent. They have four different sauces, three of them were on the table. Hot, BBQ sweet, spicy and mustard based. Where do I begin! We went here today for lunch and have leftovers for dinner! The portion are great and quality of food is mmmmmmmmm mmmmm good! We order 3 meat plate, bologna, brisket and pulled pork, baked beans and potato salad and oh lawddddd it was smoked perfectly. I liked all the bbq sauce options so I mixed the hot with bbq sweet and it was goooood! My husband prefer the pull chicken, green beans, onion rings. He said the onion rings are the best he ever had and the chicken was smoked perfect and the green beans are so flavorful. Loudon, you have yourself a 5 star BBQ restaurant to rival any I have been too in Knoxville. I would even say better than any. What makes it great is easy but few can do. Great sauce, great ribs, great pork, slaw was great and add some bake beans and a great location in this small town. It's amazing. Located on the twin square across from Court House. It has a nice outside deck facing the square with noon shade. Umbrellas for afternoon sun. Trees at courthouse will give some late shade. The ribs were very tender and fall off the bone good. Smoked out back as you can smell it walking up to building. BBQ pork is just as good. Sauce is an excellent sweet BBQ with just a touch of spice. All done the way we like it in the south. This is the first barbecue place we visited since moving to this area of Tennessee. My husband smokes meat and we have been all over Texas tasting barbecue in that state, so we are very picky when it comes to smoked meats and especially brisket. We wanted to eat inside the restaurant to enjoy the super cute decor and down home vibe but they were preparing to close in the mid afternoon and were kind enough to let us place an order "to go". The brisket has a good flavor, however it was all chopped and no option to get sliced brisket. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating with very limited hours of operation. Typically they are open during weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The hours of operation are a little confusing because they close between 2 PM and 5 PM Friday and Saturday, so definitely call before you go! Sunday they are open 11 AM to 3 PM. read more

We met some friends here for lunch. Got there at 11:45 and it was good to see th place was packed. I had the ribs with a side of coleslaw and onion rings. The onion rings were overcooked and had a burnt taste to them. (Probably time to change the fry oil) and everyone agreed that the coleslaw was extremely bland. The ribs were good and they had a selection of BBQ sauces which was nice. My wife had the pulled pork. She said it was very moist and had very little fat. It was a good portion size and she also enjoyed the choice of sauces. She had French fries and Mac and cheese as her sides. The Mac and cheese was very good but the fries were undercooked and soft (not crispy at all). Our friends enjoyed their meals and commented on how they enjoyed the baked beans. Great BBQ stop in Loudon TN. Came on a Sunday with large party of 14 and were seated quickly. No wings available was the only drawback. Half rack of ribs with potato salad and slaw was excellent. My family and I tried it out on a Sunday after church and the place was packed we all got something different and all was good.
