They were able to take care of his problems very quickly and get him back on the road. They were very affordable and efficient. Never tried to oversell us and made sure the truck was running perfect before he picked it up. I know nothing about cars so am definitely a liability to be taken advantage of in such instances: Cruz fixed the problem in minutes and wouldn't even let me pay him for it. I called them for an estimate to get a timing belt change done, the first person that answered stated they couldn't give me an estimate, I needed to speak to someone in the office, so then I spoke with Kim and I told her my car and what I needed, without looking it up and without hesitation she said it would cost about $800 with parts and labor. Now, the timing belt costs about $15.00 alone, but even with the kit that includes all the tensioners, belts and a water pump, that's only about $150.00 (my cost a.k.a. retail) and the job should only take about 1-2 hours max on my car. So they are charging me $300+ an hour for labor? Or are they marking up their parts THAT much? It doesn't matter, I seriously call into question all the positive reviews for this company. read more

I don't live in Tucson, but I was driving down from Phoenix, and just as I got into the city limits on the highway, my hood started lifting. A used Yelp to find the closest mechanic to my first meeting. Took the car there and the fabulous mechanic helped me right away. He quickly and kindly fixed the bolt that was broken off and missing from my hood latch, then told me there was no charge!... Just that I should "drive home safely." I was just passing through Tucson traveling in an old Toyota camper when my engine started running rough. I called them early in the morning and they saw me after lunch. Paul, the mechanic and Kim, the owner went out of their way to diagnose and fix my problem. A clogged fuel filter. I loved the way Paul actually took my rig for a test ride before and after. Did just rely on some computer! Very courteous and competent. And they actually listened to me, a 70 year old woman, like I had some knowledge in this arena. I have never felt the need to write a yelp review until now. I just had the best experience ever at Sooters! My daughter is a freshman at UofA and I just drove her car here from California to bring her home for summer. On my way to Tucson the back break light died. Sooters replaced it for me within minutes and didn't charge me. Now, I'm not saying their services are free. They deserve payment, for sure! But now we can drive back today worry free. I'm so used to dealing with shady car places that overcharge you and make you wait unnecessarily. This experience was so refreshing and MUCH appreciated! THE BEST AUTO REPAIR PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO: I travel all over the country (60,000 miles in the past 20 months) and I have lived in over a dozen cities. I have never been so well taken care of at an auto repair shop. Sooter's is world-class. Kim the manager and third generation owner runs a great business that provides excellent customer service. Kyle and the mechanics are competent auto repair professionals who take the time to fully explain what needs to be done, what it will cost and what they will do. My daugter's car broke down in Phoenix on her way to see us in Northern Arizona. I had AAA tow her to a AAA repair facility called Greulics in Ahwatukee. Greulics called me and said it would cost over $800 to fix. I had it picked up and towed to Sooter's in Tucson, as we have had great service there before and they quoted me a much lower price for the repairs. Once Sooter's had a look at the car they called me and said that the rotor in the distributore was missing a screw and that the car was running fine. We could pick it up anytime and there was no charge. Wow!!!! They saved my daughter $800 and were very honest. If you need car repair.......do yourself a favor and go to Sooter's. Thanks Sooter's. They're just the best around. Trustworthy. I took my car to them after having a worrisome experience with someone else. Car was making a peculiar sound in the vicinity of the part that had been installed. They thought the installed part was defective, and offered to do the work, and call the manufacturer to get the warranty honored. However, when I returned for my appointment (they are sometimes busy and it can take time to get the car in), I wasn't hearing the noise any more. They checked it themselves, sure enough, no noise. They suggested they not replace the part. Two visits, they didn't charge for either. In past years, they actually had to do some work, and that work was first-rate as well. read more

Another shop wanted to charge me $1700 for an oil pressure issue and Sooters handled it, and other items, for $770. But price is only one side of the story. I came into Sooters Auto Service with an old car needing lots of work done. I had mentioned to Kim that I was looking to get rid of my car soon due to age and broken parts and that all I wanted was to fix the car temporarily to allow me time to look for another one. With that, Kim quoted me for the necessary work and parts and I agreed to only fix part of the car. However, when I came into the shop to pay for the maintenance, Kim was not there any my bill was nearly $200 more than originally quoted for. I could not leave and felt like I was being robbed of my money. Kim misquoted me for the servicing and I was forced to pay for the extra work and parts that were replaced. If I had known that the total cost for service was over my budget (for my old/soon to be replaced car) I would not have given permission to be fixed at all. When I called the shop to figure out a solution, I was dismissed and told nothing could be done. I feel robbed and will no longer trust Sooters Auto with my vehicles. read more

Seems like a decent place to take your car for repairs. It's family owned and they seem to do a good job (but I'm not a mechanic so am no expert). The customer service here was actually good! A nice surprise for a change... They actually seemed to care about me as a customer, which not every place does, so that was nice. One negative was that the prices seemed a bit on the expensive side. Once again Sooter's Auto Repair provided outstanding service! I bought front and rear bumpers, along with a winch and storage vault, arranging with Kim to have all installed to my surprise in one day!! Installation was going fine, until Mechanic James called bringing a damaged storage vault to my attention, which had been damaged during delivery. James contacted all parties necessary to return the damaged vault and arrange for the delivery of a new vault! Installation of the bumpers and winch were professionally completed and my Willy's Jeep looks great!! This place was fantastic. My car engine started overheating and making an odd noise when I was driving to a store on 4th. I wasn't sure what to do, so I asked around and was pointed to Sooters. Truth be told, I only went there because they were the closest place to where I was and I was afraid to drive my car far. Well, I'm glad I went there! They were very nice and helpful. I arrived shortly before they were due to close, but they said they could hold onto my car and look at it the next day. They gave me and my father updates on the status of my car the next day, and had it fixed pretty quickly. I'll admit I was wary at first. I'm a University student with no knowledge of how cars work and what fixes what. I always would hear stories online of shady dealerships that try to take advantage of ignorant customers. Sooters wasn't like that at all though! The price for fixing up my car was great, and they were very friendly the entire time. I took my 2012 Honda Ridgeline RTL into Sooters Auto Service for some pre-100,000 mile preventative maintenance. They replaced my timing belt system (i.e. belt, tensioner system, idler, seals, etc.), replaced the water pump, and performed an engine tune-up. Price and schedule were as advertised. I'm very pleased with the work as well as all of my interactions with Kim. She was very professional, took time to answer my questions, and even walked out to show me where my truck was parked when finished. I asked and they saved my old parts. I had previously had some worked performed at Chapman Honda which was sub-standard so this major work was something I really agonized over. No questions my vehicles will be headed back to Sooters for future maintenance and repairs. read more

We had an unpleasant experience with Sooters, because they tried to charge us more than the quoted price. We took our car in to check for low fuel mileage and to have an inspection because we were planning on a long trip. We were quoted $75 for the fuel check and $70 for the inspection. They called us after the inspection saying they recommended two cv boot replacements and front brakes for a total of $610 additional. I asked what the charge would be for the CV boots only, and was told $240. After we discussed this, I called back to authorize the cv boot replacement, spoke to the same person but he said he had added wrong and the charge would be $340. I asked if the $340 would be in addition to the $75 and $70. He told me we would not be charged the $70 inspection, and that the total cost would be $416. I reiterated that I needed a total cost to make a decision on whether to get the repair, and was told again $416. I was already not thrilled to pay $416 when I expected the cost to be $385 ($75 + $70 + $240), but I thought I would give them a pass since they were waiving the $70 inspection fee. When we arrived, we were told the cost would be about $475, and that the person I spoke with had made a mistake in saying the $70 fee would be waived. After some lengthy conversation they agreed to charge us the lower amount, provided we never returned to their shop. This is not how an auto repair shop should do business. Here they made not one, but two errors in the prices quoted. A customer-friendly business would acknowledge their mistake and charge the quoted price, and wouldn't display an attitude when a customer asked to be charged the price to which they agreed. If you do use this establishment I recommend you get any prices in writing. read more

Sooter's is indeed a family business, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Repair costs also seemed reasonable. However, I have to deduct 1 star because they did not test one of the repairs they performed (it turned out they didn't fix the problem), and so I had to return to have them fix it again a different way. They did so free of charge and without any hassle or haggling, which is great, but they should have tested it the first time. Still would happily go to Sooter's again. read more

We typically drive German cars but we have an old American sedan that was my mother in law's. Sooter's has been our "go to" for repairs. The work has always been great, we believe they are fairly priced and I don't know if they actually remember us from time to time but they act like they do which I like. They are busy so we always make an appointment. As long as we have American cars that are out of warranty this will continue to be our choice for repairs. read more

Parent's Cadillac was broken into and drivers lock and handle completely smashed. They found an after market part since GM wanted way too much for a new one, painted it to exactly match the rest of the car, and fixed everything up as good as it could ever have been.
