Such a fun local place! Passing through Yuba City, on the way to Ukiah. I ended up spending the night. Late departure from Reno, long story, construction/single lanes/pilot cars etc on highway 20, and old eyes that can't see in the dark, necessitated me stopping in Yuba City. The whole solo drive, I was dreaming of dinner, and Thai food, specifically. Directions to the hotel, took me through Plumas street. Such a cute area! Street parking, with cute shops, and eateries. Ice cream, Breck's shoes. AND Sopa Thai Cuisine! This was a sign from God! Checked in to the hotel and then got directions. The service was so great...huge seating area inside and out. Staff was small and attentive, containing guests on one half of the building. This was a Tuesday night. Everybody knew everybody! There was a birthday party of 12? This crew was on it, and everybody was happy! I had their Special Pumpkin Curry-spicy-with chicken, and Lemon Drop Martini. To die for!! The presentation was super cute with dried pumpkin strands--check out the photo. At first I thought it was chewy, but, get in there folks and stir it in. It rehydrates wonderfully with the spicy coconut imilk curry. Of course being solo, I couldnt eat it all. The to go box came with an additional container of rice! Love you all! I got chicken satay, fried rice, and pad woon sen takeout. It was the worst meal I have had in a long time. I am not picky. Even if food is just meh, I'll choke it down. However, I threw this away after three bites. The chicken satay was so dry it was like chewing on cardboard. (The peanut sauce was ok). The pad woon sen was somehow flavorless, yet left an aftertaste of how a dead animal smells. The fried rice was probably the most edible of it all, and yet tasted strongly of fish. I understand a slight fish taste considering the ingredients and sauce, but I have never tasted anything like this. I will never be back. read more

I had heard good things about this place and while I went in feeling excited to catch the hype, I left a little let down. This restaurant sits almost at the heart of Plumas Street in Yuba City. We were greeted by a friendly worker who seated us almost immediately and we were met with a server just as quickly. Our orders were placed, and we proceeded to enjoy our wait. I could not truly wrap my mind around what the restaurant's theme was. There was a bar, a pretty impressive one at that, tv's with sports on, and then there were pictures of what I guess were Thailand. This was mixed in with photos of what looked like carriages out somewhere. All of that was draped with Valentine's Day decorations. The place was clean, and a bit cramped but manageable. The server came out holding all of our items like a pro. When you visit, be sure to order the Tom Kha soup. It came out hot in a pot with a tiny flame. This was the star of the night. It was flavorful, creamy, and at an acceptable temperature. This was the first dish to be devoured. The next dish you should have is the fluffy tofu with the plum sauce and peanuts. I love how it was presented: tofu and dipping sauce. The tofu was as advertised and the plum sauce was great. You can imagine my surprise when the pad see ew, my favorite Thai food dish, looked more like a casserole than a noodle dish. The noodles were stuck together the same way spaghetti sticks to itself when you drain it after boiling and then not adding olive oil. The noodles were also not the large flat rice noodles that are traditionally served, and this made me question the flavor. Sadly, the pad see ew fell short of my expectations: it had little to no flavor. It resembled pasta noodles more than rice noodles. I ventured over to the garlic pepper tofu and I was yet again disappointed. This dish was the biggest let down because I was not sure what to do with it. The base was a bed of lettuce which I would've thought to see cabbage instead. It did not take away from or add to the flavor of the dish. There was a sauce of some kind and a crunchy topping of what I can only describe as panko crumbs. What's sad is that that dish had the potential to knock this dinner out of the park. It really seemed like three tiny appetizers fighting over who would take the main stage and no one was winning. Maybe these failed dishes would taste better with meat proteins but I wonder how. Overall, our experience was adequate but I'd love to see if they make any improvements or changes. This business seems to be doing well for itself so my little review may not touch as hard as the word of the locals that go there. Ultimately, you have to make your decision on it. For now, I'll wait for another visit in a while. read more

The people here are sooooo nice and friendly & the atmosphere is great. I came in to pick up a to go order and they have a full bar and a guest singer certain days of the week. However, the food is absolutely disgusting. I actually got FOOD POISONING. I'm new to the area and honestly every single time I eat out in yuba city, I get sick and the food is NEVER good. I love Thai food and I've been looking all over town for one that I like, no luck. I'll just continue to commute to Sacramento for good and clean restaurants. This time was really bad though, diarrhea for 2 days straight and vomiting. I spent over $100 here and I was so SO disappointed. I'll never be back again. read more

Everything we had here was really good. We had the slow cooked beef ribs which were fall off the bone...just note more on the sweet side. We got the green curry fried rice (levwl 3 spice) it is a creamier texture but good flavor. The order of Panang (level 3 spice) with pork was perfect enough heat to clean put your sinuses but not fry your taste buds. Mix the fried rice and the Panang together at that is one amazing dish. The girl got the seafood salad and said it was 10 out of 10. Our waitress Emily was as cute as can be and had excellent recommendations. ASK for a Thia Tea with half Thai Coffee...the coffee cuts the sweetness a bit but gives the tea an extra jolt of caffeine. If you come ask to sit in her section for excellent service. read more

Food can out fairly quick and still warm. Drinks were very tasty. Definitely recommend ordering the Soparita! Curry was very good. We requested brown fried rice and the delivered. We usually have a great experience at Sopa Thai. This last experience was not the same as before. I do consider how many staff are there vs customers. There were roughly 5 tables and 5 people at the bar. Service was extremely slow. We received an appetizer but had to go ask the bar for napkins, plates, and utensils. We ordered the same food that we have ordered for the last several visits. There was an incredible notice in the decrease of chicken. I don't eat a lot, but I usually order food with chicken for the extra protein. Maybe there was a new cook, or new management. Idk. I hope they were just off.... But it will be a while before we go back again. I honestly like the staff, and normally tip 25%. I do not worry about the increase in cost. Covid increases are real. I have eaten at restaurants in great places in Thailand, Los Angels, Las Vegas and other parts of the world. With that said, my wife and I tried this place for the first time, after hearing about the food. All I have to say is that the spicy rice is not spicy, and the Drunken noodles had no flavor and came with half the plate with vegetables. I am sure that the food is good for those who have never tasted true Thai food. The food I score a 2 The service I score a 3. I had to find the server to pay. We are vegans and chose the pad Thai with mock duck, the spicy fried rice with vegetables and the spicy black bean egg plant. We asked for low salt, low oil and no msg. The cook honored our request and everything was delicious! The wait staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. We want to go back and try some of the other dishes.
