Sophia's Winsted CT: I wish there were 2 ratings (ala GrubHub), 1 for restaurant (5 stars:)) and 1 for delivery (0 stars:(( Hence my 3 stars. I've been wkly delivery customer (due to physical disability) for past 5 yrs, and love the staff (owner Ashaad, mgr Lanay, asst mgr Stephanie, Taylor, Laura:)), & love the food:)) They mainly use Slice for deliveries, which contracts out to DoorDash or Uber for drivers (restaurants can choose which one, or use their own drivers, while still using Slice). Sophia's chose DoorDash for 1st few yrs (which had their own occasional issues), & now has switched to Uber (which has far too many issues). You watch your order on GPS Driver Tracker (on Slice app) and see they're literally driving 10 mi in opp direction from you (I'm 2mi from Sophias) delivering multiple orders (& taking an hr to get your finished order to you). Sophia's (owner Ashaad), PLEASE change back to DoorDash drivers (thru Slice), or update your DoorDash menu link - currently I can't order via DoorDash directly because their menu (1) doesn't list salads w/o dressing, & (2) can't leave special instructions, both of which Slice (along w/ GrubHub) allow. We did not go to Sophia's for a few years as the quality of the food diminished. A few weeks ago we gave Sophia's another shot and we had the worst pizza ever. It was undercooked and the center of the pizza was so soupy you could not even pick the slices up. Sent Sophia's a message to give them a chance to make this right and no reply. Sophia's restaurant in Winsted ct My family and I tried to enjoy a dinner but the had a window cleaning crew cleaning windows. Then the crew came inside and started cleaning with window cleaning chemicals. We talked to the hostess at the register station and her nasty and rude attitude was deplorable. Had dies she even have a job when she basically told us to fk off. She didn't care or even try to make it better. We picked ourselves up and gave up. We are not eating any prepared meals with a cleaning crew washing near our tables. This clean up work should be done before the place starts serving. (Common sense, this is a restaurant, owner.! The hostess really made it worse because she didn't try to help or care. She basically said, fk off. This review was an honest account of our attempt to eat in this restaurant. Unfortunately the rude hostess made things worse that we had to spend our time writing this review. The restaurant hostess gets zero stars. Sophia's is always consistent with great food. Their salads are large & plentiful, made fresh to order. The pizza is fantastic too, cooked to perfection with a delicious thick crust. The staff is attentive and friendly. read more

We've been to Sophia's many, many times before COVID and like 20 times just since COVID because we wanted to help them stay in business, even though they did not like to do curbside and gave us a hard time even though they offered it. Always got salmon and vegetables, it's pretty good, and apizza for the wife. Called tonight to place the order, likely my 30th order of the exact same thing: Hi, I'd like the $21 salmon please. What vegetable side does that come with tonight? Potato. Can I get a different side? No substitutes. Can I buy a side of vegetables to go with my salmon? No. But you always had vegetable options. I will pay for a side. No substitutes. No other vegetables. Can I get a side of pasta instead of the potato? We have to charge you extra. OK, charge me extra. Sophia's is a local pasta/pizza restaurant in Winsted. Winsted is a town in NW Connecticut that's trying really hard to revive itself, and it's going well! Sophia's is a great little gem in a shopping plaza--easy to overlook. Sure, the decor needs an update, but I've never had a bad meal there. Servers are lovely,. Try the pizza! Usually I'll give 4or 5 stars but today bought a Sophia's special without Pepperoni and gave a 5 dollar tip as I usually do. Opening box and pulled a slice today and it was soggy and fell apart. To top it off I bought a large pizza with everything and when my husband bit it it had a hair in it. Wish I had read the reviews first. Today I placed an order for Penne Ala Vodka w/ chicken and a hamburger dinner, we picked up the order. When we got home no hamburger, called to check if they forgot the hamburger, only to be informed they added hamburger to the pasta with chicken. I was informed that the server took the order made a mistake and if I wanted a hamburger I would be charged again. To make matters worse they charged an additional fee for using a credit card. My fiancé and his grandparents came here last night for a late dinner and we couldn't think of one thing we would have liked different. Excellent food. Phenomenal service. Good prices. It's sad that this restaurant doesn't have many good reviews or yelp acknowledgment. Additionally we got dessert to go ( two slices of chocolate cake) and it was just incredible!!! Note: our waitress was amber who was an excellent waitress who was extremely accommodating and very sweet. One of many places to get pizza in Winsted, but also a good Italian restaurant. Sophia's has a wide variety of pizza, calzones, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. We have eaten here several times and always had a good meal and good service. The place itself is just a storefront in a strip mall and not much to look at -- but the food makes this place worth a visit. read more

Food was just ok. Service was horrible. Only 3 other tables in the restaurant besides ours and one of which only had 1 person and staff couldn't keep up. Looked like they had plenty of staff working and the table nearby had multiple waitresses attending to them frequently but they completely ignored us. Dropped off the food we ordered and never returned to ask how it was or if we wanted refills or even to drop the check off. Had to go to front of restaurant and wait for someone to come from the kitchen to pay. Won't be returning. Pizza places are a dime a dozen - they gotta do much better to stay in business. I have to say it's not the most outside appearance... but the food is fantastic! Quick prompt delivery, friendly and professional! I usually ordered pizza but tried a pasta dish. And I'm a pasta snob and let me tell you her chicken and broccoli Alfredo with ziti was AWESOME! Moist chicken plenty of seasonings and sauce not watery all out a 10 for me! For a Saturday night, this was pretty quiet and had no problem getting a table. The restaurant has two rooms, one with larger tables tucked in the back and another facing the street filled with tables and booths for two. Our server was friendly and upbeat, even though they are a Pepsi establishment. The food was standard antipasto and pizza. The white was a little dry, but everything was good, clean, and ready for breakfast the next morning :-) read more

Been coming here for 8 years good food at reasonable prices. Lately and this evening the service was horrible!! Was sitting for over 10 minutes and three waitress's walk right by and did not even acknowledge our existence, not even a menu!! I hope they hire some competent help soon. Update 4-26-15 Yeah!!!!! Very good waitress!!! This just increased my rating!! Sorry to say that I was there again in December 2015 and waited 20 minutes and had to leave. 2 waitresses walked by 5 times with out even an acknowledgment. NEVER again. Today I ordered their shrimp scampi linguini to go. Which I LOVE. However it's the sauce that I live so I ordered it w/o shrimp. Simple enough right? I picked it up and decided to check it before I pulled out of the driveway.. it was nothing but linguini with butter and garlic??. No lemon, no capers...which makes it a scampi sauce. I bring it back and let the guy know it wasn't what I ordered. He takes it from me and goes to the kitchen. While I wait at the counter I have a full view of the cook line. There is a guy scooping some sort of soft cheese out of a bucket. He scoops it with a fork or spoon then removes it from the utensil with his fingers and flicks it onto the pizza! That's disgusting. I'm not talking sprinkling shredded cheese. I'm talking sticky soft cheese all over his fingers being flicked onto a pizza someone will eat. The guy comes back and tells me IT IS scampi. I ask where are the capers? Where is the lemon? He responds "oh you want that we can add that". At this point I'm nauseous from watching the pizza guy and stunned that Shrimp Scampi linguini without Shrimp is a concept too hard to grasp. I tell him I just want my money back and explained what I just saw the pizza guy doing. He says "well when you make a pizza you have to use your hands". I tell him that's what gloves are for...he returns my money. I'm just speechless. So anyone out there with soft cheese on their pizza...know that it's been man handled by some 20 something year old.. good luck with that read more

Decent food, but takes forever to make. Never on time.. I used to like to go here to support local but any time they say food will be ready, add 30-40 minutes. If I am picking up I always show up at least 20 minutes after they say food will be ready and 9/10 times they haven't even started cooking it yet; then once you tell them your order they yell into the kitchen to have them start cooking. Ordered delivery once, and an hour and a half went by past the estimated time of delivery that they sent me. I called and apparently there were no drivers in the area so they couldn't fulfill my order, no text or call or anything- order was just cancelled. Wouldn't recommend if you're hungry- by the time the food is ready you will already have had time to go grocery shopping and cook something else. read more

Sophia's is always reliable. Food is always consistent, staff is extremely friendly, prices are great! The pizza is good, I love the grinders here..they're huge so if you get a whole grinder you're gonna have leftovers for later! It's hard to find steak fries so I'm really happy Sophia's has them! When you call for pick up, make sure you add 10 mins to the time they tell you because it can be a bit longer of a wait, but it does guarantee that your food will be nice and hot! read more

Always good food at Sophia's. They have dine in, or take out. Dining in offers booths or tables. There's no "wow" factor to the atmosphere, but you don't come here for that. You come here for the food. Their pizza is a thicker crust with fresh toppings. Not from a can, or previously frozen. Their entrees are your traditional Italian style, which are just as yummy. They usually have specials which seem appealing, but I haven't ventured to any yet.. Overall, if you are looking for food with consistent taste and quality, Sophia's will do you right every time. read more

We stopped here on a whim yesterday for lunch. Hubby didn't see what he wanted on the menu, so he asked and was told it was on the dinner menu. Our waitress brought us the dinner menu and sure enough there were the two meals we were looking for. He ordered baked lasagna with meat and I ordered baked shrimp and scallop scampi on angel hair pasta. They were both delicious. Extra large portions. We had enough to bring home for another meal. The restaurant area was neat and tidy. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Easily accessible by a handicapped individual. Staff was friendly and helpful. We have ordered their house pizza to go on two other occasions and were very pleased with them. We asked for thin crust with anchovies on the left and mushrooms on the right and got exactly what we ordered and it was delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more

So when we got there, waitress said we could sit wherever we want So we sat in booth, we waited few min. Not one waitress came by to clean it. One of them kept passing us to give customers behind us their food. She passed us couple of times, nothing she asked if we are being helped or served? We said No. So we waited and waited waited and nothing. So we decided to leave. I saw mother and daughter come in , as soon they sat down , their table got cleaned ASAP! and got menus ASAP. We've ordered pizza and pasta dishes several times during the past 4 months and have always been satisfied. Today we ordered 2 pasta dishes and when we received them found that one of our orders was incorrect and not what we had ordered. I called to make Sophia's aware of their mistake but instead of a simple apology, I got an argument from the owner who insisted the order was correct. There are several Italian and pizza restsurants in the area and we'll be ordering from another restaurant in the future. For future reference....a simple apology goes a long way. read more

My 2 sisters and I ordered take-out from Sophia's for lunch. We all ordered the same thing, Chicken Valera. None of us wanted the pasta so we asked for it over vegetables. They charged us $2.00 extra each. Ok, I guess I get it, even though that seemed like a lot. The clincher was the frozen vegetables they used, and very little flavor to boot! I had to "doctor it up" with Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. Clearly, I won't be in a hurry to get another meal there....take-out or otherwise. A friend of mine happen to be at the house when we brought the food back. She said she and her boyfriend decided long ago not to eat there after numerous times being disappointed. Been a customer for 20 plus years ! Ordered take out pizza and small dinner salad. Salad had 1 cucumber slice 1 tomato slice 3 pepper slices and 3 strips of onions and i requested feta and mozzarella and the owner said that my salad would cost $4 more because i added cheese. A 1 serving dinner salad now will cost close to 9 dollars! I asked him how he justified charging almost $9 for a dinner salad when a small greek salad was $9.50 which is probably twice or three times the size. His response was what do I want it for free! If Yelp would let me I would give this negative 1 star. Giving them one star is me being generous. I have gone to this place for years and today will be the last day I ever go. Such disrespect and absolutely disgusted how they run their business. I went out with my girlfriend for a nice Monday dinner and I had order fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and my girlfriend order a gyro lamb. She took one bite and could barley swallow it. It looked like a sausage link right out of a frozen box. The waitress came back and I had said "she took one bite of this and is there anyway she could please get something else?" The waitress said "ummm...be right back" we waited 10 minutes while I shared my food with her because I felt so bad. She came back and said "so can we get you some pasta on the house or some French fries on the house." She replied with "sure pasta with butter". We waited 15 mins (granted there is no one in the restaurant) but that's fine let's get to the point. The pasta came it was smothered in oil and garlic chucks. It was just as garbage as the frozen boxed gyro. But wait for it, we got the bill and they made us pay for the gyro that she took ONE bite of and then added 12$ to our bill for the pasta. AFTER they said it was on the house. Nothing was done about this. Spent a 50$ meal and I was the only one who ate. I will NEVER go back there. I even overheard the manager telling the young waitress "don't go to the bar with your boyfriend, just me and you." Disgusting. Worst food I have I've ever eaten! The owner is a sleazy creep who flirts with the waiters, and makes excuses for the awful food that they serve. I went in one afternoon for a quick bite and it quickly turned into one of the worst dinning experience I've ever had. I ordered a gyro and the lamb looked like dry dog poop and it was completely disgusting! I took one bite and couldn't swallow the rest down. I returned it to the back and they told me I could have something on the house. The food I got next was butter noodles with garlic sauce, it just wasn't good, the pasta was completely over cooked and I barely ate two bites. When the check came I saw they charged me for the gyro which I only had one bite of and 12 dollars for overcooked pasta. I was in shocked, and completely disgusting about the whole situation. Took an hour and a half for our actual food to come out, after we were done with appetizers was when they decided to bring out plates for it. Ordered penne ala vodka and it tasted like pasta with sauce that was colored orange, the Fettuccini Alfredo tasted like watered down cream. The only thing they were able to get right were our drinks, but do take note they didn't bring our one of them until halfway through the hour and a half waiting for the food.
