Nice quick place to get sushi. We went for the kaitenzushi but ended up ordering a few pieces since a 91% white area means they're mostly slinging California rolls on the belt. Prices are good, service is attentive, and I found the restaurant to be really cute. Unrelated to the review, can I just mention that I saw a kid digging in his nose over and over again and his parents watched and did nothing as he wiped boogers on his cheeks, the middle part of the belt, and his dad's shoulder? Just on the off chance this family is also reviewing/looking at Yelp, just wanted to let them know that Kleenex exists, as does decent parenting. read more

Not bad at all, this place is slightly better than most revolving belt sushi restaurants. It seems a little sleepy sometimes on the weekdays but I've never had bad sushi here. I rarely ever review, but this experience was just so lousy. The food was mediocre, but the waitress was downright hostile and angry about having to really wipe the table down for me and to reheat my hot sake since it was served barely warm and returned barely any warmer. And I felt so uncomfortable, I could not even ask for wasabi which my sushi was missing. Then as I typed this review, she tried to force me to pay before I was ready. Pretty good service, nothing over the top, but the timing was great. I ate one salmon roll, chicken fried rice, and Chashu ramen. They were all really delicious. This Japanese restaurant has become one of my favorite places to eat in the Bend area for several reasons. The staff working at this location are extremely friendly, professional and helpful and they genuinely show their appreciation for their customers. The food is also always fresh and they keep the conveyor belt pretty well-stocked throughout the day, which you kind of need to when you are as busy as they are at times. We went there for Happy Hour to try it out. Food was average at best. Everything else was terrible. Issue #1: The sign on their door says Happy Hour 11am-5pm. When we asked about it, the waiter said the sign is wrong and it's really from 3pm-5pm. Then he told us the sign has been wrong for over two years but the owner won't fix it. Issue #2: We weren't impressed by the HH options so ordered rolls and nigiri from the regular menu. One of the rolls we ordered was the Cherry Blossom Roll. The quality of the sushi from Sora has gone way down since before the pandemic. Before hand this was my favorite sushi restaurant in town. The orange blossom roll served actually looked like it does in the picture on this website from Megan C.'s review, completely surrounded by salmon and a generous helping inside. I saw that the quantity of salmon was greatly reduced last year with only a slice of salmon on the outside that only was as wide as the top of the rice as shown in Chon B.'s review. That reduction wasn't enough for us to stop ordering from here, however in our last take out visit we received what I would call a flake of salmon on the outside and little bits on the inside. The same width as in Chon B.'s photo but at least 60% thinner for the salmon on the top. And this is supposed to be a "blossom." For what they are giving and with no reductions in price I feel that I didn't get what I paid for and am going to look at their competitors like Shinsei again. Trim your expectations. If you are using pictures older than 6 months to gauge what you are ordering, that is not what you are going to get today. TL;DR: See photo from Megan C. for what the orange blossom used to look like prepandemic. See photo from Chon B. for what it looked like during the pandemic. Hadn't been there in quite a while, decided to give them one more try. Big mistake. The restaurant is unclean; the condiment containers are sticky, the floor was dirty, the place just had an unkempt feeling overall. Over 1/3 of the items on the conveyor belt were pre-prepared desserts, and there may have been four different kinds of rolls on the belts and lord knows how long those had been sitting there. Just avoid this place; if you want decent sushi, go to 5 Fusion or hell buy something from a grocery store. read more

The main draw for SORA is the small plate sushi slowly making its way around the restaurant on a shiny metal conveyor belt. Seating for the sushi-go-round uses high stools, which may be challenging for smaller kids. Booth seating is also available as well as table service for larger groups. Sushi plate prices are mounted on walls around the belt. A full menu for ordering is available. If you arrive within the last hour of business, don't expect to find a lot of plates moving on the belt. However, all of the items can be ordered from the menu for same prices. This is my all time favorite sushi place me and my Boyfriend like to come here atleast once a week.... sometimes two. It is very reasonable pricing and it's absolutely amazing I love it so much. Try not to go at the end of the night towards closing because sometimes there's isn't any good sushi on the conveyer belt. But if you go during their happy hour everything is 2.50$ I believe and it's full of so much sushi it almost seems endless and the wiener and employees are so kind and nice and are there to serve you and anything you need. Service was excellent, but my food wasn't so great. The huge conveyor belt loaded with plastic boxes of sushi, salads and other stuff really didn't appeal to me. There were so many boxes that I just couldn't see how it could really be safe to running sushi around the restaurant for hours. I decided to order from the menu because I didn't have any idea how long the sushi boxes had been on the conveyor belt. After receiving my bento box, I had regrets for not ordering from the sushi train. My shrimp tempura was really mushy. I didn't even think that it had shrimp in it at first. The shrimp was not at all firm. It tasted like wet batter. The tempura was not as light and crispy as it should have been. I'm trying to start eating chicken again, but my chicken teriyaki was made from chicken thighs and it was rubbery and tasteless. I didn't like the salad dressing. The California roll was the best thing in my bento box. In all honesty, this was the worst bento box I've ever ordered. The food just didn't taste like it was made from quality ingredients. If someone pushes me, I'll go back and try choosing from the sushi train. Better yet, I'll push them to go next door to Mantra, which I love. read more

We LOVE this place. I'm glad we don't live in Bend because we'd be there every single day for lunch. It's easy to go overboard with conveyer belt plates. Luckily happy hour ($2.75 for every plate, even the huge ones that run for like $5 a piece normally) makes it way more affordable than any other sushi place in Central Oregon. I don't know what the reviews are talking about with the awkward service? They are super friendly and welcoming. Maybe not super chatty but as the owners were mostly speaking Japanese, I'm going to put it down to a language/culture barrier. Our waters were constantly filled, we were checked on and they boxed left overs up for us. We checked out at the counter, which was made clear to us after our plates were counted up and wasn't an issue (I think those that were waiting for their tab to be picked up with the payment weren't paying attention - they tally it up on the tab at your seat and let you know that it's taken care of at the register). The menu has more traditional and authentic Japanese items than other sushi places in Bend. The portions are HUGE, especially for the price. Where you might spend a ridiculous $20-30 on bland ramen with even blander pork belly elsewhere, here you will find a variety of ramen styles and flavors for under $12, especially on special, and absolutely stuffed with broth, scrumptious noodles, and fresh ingredients on top. I had oyakodon (chicken and egg over rice) this last time and was so pleasantly surprised. It's usually a pretty good comfort food option but small, lacking in egg and soy flavor from other Japanese restaurants in Oregon. The chicken was moist, saucy and delicious. There were vegetables (yay!!) and perfectly fried eggs over rice. My husband's spicy chicken was really good, too, and I can't wait to try the teriyaki and yakisoba. But, you could really make a big meal out of the belt options. There are deserts (macaroons, steamed cheese cake from Japan!! etc), interesting little drinks and snacks (yogurt soft drinks, mini jello "shots"), wonderfully refreshing cucumber, strawberries, oranges, and salted edamame. It's a nice change to see unique Japanese foods that you'd actually find in Japan, besides just ramune soda and pocky. There's the brown rice matcha green tea packets, imported from Japan, and red bean paste rice balls (hard to find outside of Vietnamese restaurants, but very popular in Japan), and homemade DAIFUKU stuffed with anko and rolled with mochiko rice flour. Everything tastes fresh, even after going around the bar a few times. Yes, there are "inauthentic" Americanized rolls that are fried in tempura and smothered in yummy sauce. So what? There's also sashimi with octopus/squid and eel for the purists or the adventurous American palette. Personally, I don't like plain raw fish no matter how fresh it is, or how well-prepared the sushi rice and nori, so I appreciate a mild California roll with a bit of roux on top, or tempura battered shrimp with cream cheese. The only "crusty" roll I found was meant to be that way, since it was dusted with raw panko (bread crumbs), and that is probably more up to a matter of taste anyway. Long story short, give it a try. Love the sushi conveyor! We weren't a huge fan of this place before they started the conveyor belt again. The service was non existent and staff didn't seem the nicest. Now, the conveyor belt is back on and sushi is super fresh and tasty! Service has turned a complete 180 as well. This is review is entirely about a staff person. Placed a to go order and the bag did not include part of the order. I noticed by weight and they gave us what was missing. Back home we noticed the sushi order was all wrong and not something we could eat. Called them to get the right order in but no answer, so kept calling repeatedly for more than 10 min and then went back. The person was more interested in finding out what happened than getting the right order in and blamed it on a Door Dasher, but it was her job to put the right stuff in our bag. I'm so happy to have discovered SORA right across from my (Mirror Pond) cleaners. I now plan my trip to the cleaners around lunch or dinner and scoot across Franklin into their parking. A myriad of sushi, sashimi, vegetables, specials and desserts, lazily glide by at a relaxing pace. One has time to inspect, decide, change ones mind the select from the conga line of covered delights as they dance by. The food is done properly, not overly fancy, but tasty, varied and inexpensive! I had three selections for lunch and left satisfied for under $9 (including tip)! Portions are smaller, maybe 4 pieces of sushi instead of eight. But hey, variety is the spice in this place!! Comparing to Genki Sushi this place is very sad. By itself the selections was boring. At the time that we were there, there was only California roll (no cream cheese for me) . Cone sushi not my favorite I need more flavors & fish, imitation crab which looked tired, and a few tuna sushi. I was so disappointed only ate the tuna sushi. I was thinking where was the Tekka Maki, Tuna Maki, spicy Tuna bomb, cucumber tekka, garlic sesame edamame beans, Somein salad, tempura vegetables, Karrage chicken, etc. I'm missing Hawaii's Genki Sushi & Sushi Bay right about now!! !! read more
