Sorimmara is a popular Korean-style malatang chain from Korea now expanding with multiple locations in the U.S. This spot is located in the plaza right across the street from The Source. There are a decent amount of parking spots in the plaza. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a laid back and chill ambiance. For their menu, they have different options of hot foods you can order or self-serve options where you choose the items you want. Wifey and I opted for the self-serve options and I got the standard Malatang while she got the Rose Mala Xiang Guo. They also have a self-serve sauce bar with tons of options to customize to your liking. Overall, everything that we had was delicious and filling. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. This is a great spot for a cool date night or for a unique dining experience with friends or family. I would definitely recommend checking this spot out for all the malatang enthusiasts!

So sad... this place had so much potential with its large space and late hours.. If youve ever had malatang anywhere else, youll know Sorimmara isnt the same (and not in a good way). CONS: 1. They close earlier than their posted hours, so dont even bother if youre going about an hour and a half before closing time. The doors will be locked and lights off 2. There are table numbers. Make sure you remember/look because youll walk all the way back to look for it 3. They dont tare the bowl weight?? I was shocked to see on the scale that they weigh everything INCLUDING the weight of the bowl. Any other place does not include bowl weight. 4. Its expensive compared to competiton in the area 5. The service is average. Just a typical place that sits you down and thats it PROS: 1. Ingredients were fresh and there was a good variety 2. Rose mala! Definitely not found anywhere else

This malatang spot is different from the Chinese/Taiwanese malatang chains like Yintang/YGF/Zhangliang! The flavors are super different as they don't have a strong beef bone broth taste, but I absolutely loved the selection and little stovetop hotpot style they had with the jelly fluid. I thought the sauce bar was very extensive as well, but I prefer the sauce bar at other malatang spots better. There were a lot of Korean toppings that other places didn't have, like sweet potato starchy glass noodles, Korean sweet potato rice cakes, etc. I opted for the regular malatang soup base although I was eyeing the rose flavor that looked really good as well! It seems that they boil everything on the side and then add the broth in to let it cook. I got the medium level and it had a really strong mala taste and is actually numbing. I honestly don't know if I like this kinda flavor as much as the other mala chains, but would come back here solely for vibes and late night mala! Next time I will try the rose malaxiangguo and the fried foods like guobaorou! Those looked good as well. I really enjoyed the vibe as it reminded me of Korea, and the service was very nice as they checked up on us once in a while. It's nice to have a restaurant that opens late near the OC area as everything here tends to close pretty early. They do last call for hotpot at 11pm and close their sauce bar an hour before they actually close, so watch out if you're trying to come in near closing!

When I went, idk if it was not during the rush but it was sooo empty. It was my first time at a place like this & the host was kind enough to walk me through the process. It was easy. The flavors were rich & flavorful, but you can probally skip out on the appetizers as they weren't eye grabbing. The atmosphere was bumping with music, not too bright not too dark. Also, there is a custom sauce bar so you can get creative!

We love the mala heat yet it's hella spicy but the best ways to cool ourselves down is with their appetizers and refreshing @milkisusa and Melon Korean Milk! I got the Rose Mal Tang level 1 plus cheese but no numbing added! I know I am boring but it's the best way for me to get thru mala tang. I love their creamy shrimp and that white sauce reminds me of a walnut shrimp sauce. The sweet and sour pork is actually red instead of the yellow sweet sauce we are used to at Chinese Korean restaurants. My son devoured the spam fried rice and it was filled with lots of spam. I love how Sorimmara is so spacious and bright with a ton of toppings selection and sauce bar.plus the service is very helpful and friendly.

If you love Malatang and want something a little different, this place is worth a try and offers Korean Malatang! Same as most Malatang places, you get a bowl and choose from a variety of ingredients, they had a pretty large selection! And then you go to the front register, they weigh your bowl, and you select your choice of broth. Instead of it being in big bowls, I loved that they came out on the individual stoves! 'Malatang': Got the mild/lowest spice level, but the broth was still pretty strong in the numbing and tingling flavor, if you're into that! 'Rose Mala Xiang Guo': This is a non soup version and I really liked it because it was very creamy and spicy! Price per pound is a bit higher than some of the other malatang places I've been to though. Place is really spacious and has a good ambiance.

Tons of possible variations to choose from at Sorimmara. Highly recommend if you're craving malatang or mouth numbing szechuan pepper. This location is situated in what used to be the Fuddruckers. A couple of nods from the burger joint were the gasoline pump and an area towards the center where the table is slightly raised. The menu may appear a bit confusing at first but it all will make sense as you go. They have a couple menu items you can order on the side like rice balls, rice cake side dishes, etc. The main star of the show is the malatang. The center of the restaurant looks like an all you can eat but the price is based off of the weight of the ingredients. So make sure to shake off any extra water from your vegges and noodles! ;) They have an excellent amount of ingredient and sauce options. The staff is friendly but they will not come and check on you so if you need a water refill or have a question, they've conveniently placed digital pads at the tables. You can place additional orders and call for assistance there.

If you want something super different or want Korean Chinese fusion this place is it! Coming it looked pretty retro and calming. You come into the front area where they weigh your food and to the right you see all the toppings and sauces which were plenty. You get your table number then you get your food and weigh it. You also pay after. Rose Mala Dry Pot ($18.99/LB)- this was very different than other dry pots I try. Normally they only offer Mala in these types of dry pot places but they have the Rose which is creamy and delicious. I got my food and it came out to look cute and nice. The rose Mala was great in flavor and it had a nice tang to it. You taste the creaminess of the sauce and it blends well instead of the full numbing flavor. I added rice with this which came out to $2 more. Worth it I might say. Overall, this place is good! The service was nice and the ladies came by to ask us if we need anything. They smiled and talked to us in a calm way despite it being close to closing. They made the process quick and easy. I would definitely come back and eat there again. It lowkey is kind of expensive but everything is expensive.

We came here on a Friday night and there was no wait. They seat you first, and then you can go make your bowl of malatang. I liked that all the ingredients looked and tasted fresh. There was a decent variety of seafood and veggies, although I think the meat section could have had more items like intestine or tripe. They serve the malatang over a flame, which is different from other spots I've been to. While I think the fire is cool, I prefer going to the spots that don't have that since it makes the soup evaporate faster and the broth refill (free) dilutes it. We also ordered the wings and fries. For the price, I was thinking the portion would be larger, but they were tasty at least. I'd probably go to other places if I wanted just malatang or just fried chicken, but it's nice that this place offers a variety of food. It's a great option for groups, and even better that they're open late! Parking is easy and the servers regularly checked in on us.

my first time trying korean malatang!! once you're seated, you can make your way to the self-serve station where you pick items of your choosing that range from noodles, meats, vegetables to seafood products and more! depending on the base you get, you'll get a different price point -- for rose mala xiang guo, it was $19.99/lb. after it gets weighed and you choose a spice level, you are given a number and wait at your table until they bring it out to you! the rose flavor itself was creamy and rich with a slight kick of the mild spice. catering your dish to items you like make it enjoyable, but it's also quite filling if you pick out a lot more than you can consume! overall, a solid meal but definitely quite pricey!

I went here with a friend the other day. I was craving some soup. They have a wide array of toppings to add on your broth. After you make the selection, you go to the cashier. You let them know what broth you would like and what spice level. I get the mala one which is pretty good. I prefer the medium flavor. We also like to get the Korean rice cake - rose flavor which is similar to carbonara. We always get the cheese on top which is pretty tasty. This is a great place to get a nice bowl of soup. They also have a huge sauce station where oh can dip your meats into different sauces. They also have recommended combinations.

Yes it's pricey but honestly no complaints. My bowl was about 2lbs so maybe 35, my friend's was a bit more so about 50. It was our first time here so it was a bit hard to gauge how much we should get, but for an average bowl I think it would generally come out to $30-40 which is comparable to ayce kbbq or shabu. The selection of ingredients were good, the cuts of meat were definitely frozen but not tough, lots of variety for vegetables, and I especially loved all the noodle options (recommend all the wide glass noodles). The broth was flavorful and the perfect amount of spicy (I got level 5 bc i really like spicy, imo its a tiny bit less spicy than the original buldak but the mala adds a kick that makes up for it) For me it wasn't too salty or too oily, but keep in mind the dish is originally a saltier and oilier dish so if you don't like that you might not enjoy it. Also, the portion for my $35 bowl was honestly big enough for it to be 3 whole meals for me. I ate so much there and had so much left to take home. The workers were kind and friendly, especially the one up front when we went, and I really liked the late night pocha vibes. Would definitely come again!

1. The sauce in the dry pot was really delicious! The pork goubaorou were meaty and had a nice crispy texture! The highballs were strong! 2. The spot had fun casual vibes with bright decor! 3. The staff were friendly and timely with our order! 4. Front parking lot is medium sized, but there is more parking in the back corner! 5. There are plenty of indoor seatings! I only write reviews if my experience was REALLY GOOD or REALLY BAD. Just like the other poor review here - this place was NOT READY to have their grand opening. Servers still learning etc - you can look over those issues but my review is mainly regarding the overall experience and system rather than the food. PSA- When you walk in you're supposed to go pick a table and get the *table letter and number* BEFORE you make your bowl and then take it up to the counter to let them know which table you picked We made our bowl, took it to the counter thinking we will be paying but they asked us what our table number was... so we had to run over and find a table we wanted to sit at. After that, you would expect to PAY when turning in your bowl since you see the price of your bowl on the screen, but you have to leave it and sit down at your table. They brought our food out and the server asked how many plates and utensils they can bring us. We told them, and then a few minutes later, he comes and says their "policy changed" and we actually need to go get the utensils ourselves. Why were we asked how many utensils we needed by the server to then have the server pass the utensils booth to tell us we need to get it ourselves and how did the policy change the day of opening? On top of that they forgot our drinks so we had to ask for it. THEN after you're done eating you have to get back up and pay at the counter. Not only that but the wide glass noodles in all 3 of our dishes were NOT COOKED through at all. And my only other complaint about the food would be their beef is not thinly sliced, it almost feels like you're chewing on steak. Thankfully the other items in our pot were well cooked. The mala dry pot itself wasn't terrible but wasn't good. The only thing we all really enjoyed was the cream shrimp and sweet and sour pork. Though for 8 pieces of shrimp $18.99 is ridiculous. Thankfully we had the 50% off coupon for grand opening. Overall my entire party agreed the experience and system is chaotic and disorganized and pretty terrible. It would make more sense if you walked in and there was a sign to tell you to pick a table, make your bowl, then turn it into the counter but pay at the end. It's also a layout issue because when you walk in, you first see the counter, then the bowl booth, then at the wayyyy end of the restaurant you have the tables. So everything is backwards from the way they actually want you to approach the order of things. Completely understand it's their first day but the grand opening was rushed and they should try out the whole experience theirselves to see what they can improve on because they do have potential. Will give it another try in a few months and see if things changed! read more

Please keep in mind this restaurant is very very new, they are still trying to find the right system in place. With that being said, I think the food was very good. The servers are trying very hard and the atmosphere was very open and inviting. I've never had mala tang before and I was quite surprised by the taste my first time. I went in the second time and tried other things like the rose one, fried rice, and tteokbokki. All were very very good. I'd say if you were looking for a place like this you should definitely check it out. The alcohol is a plus. They have a full bar! read more

I think the place needs to change their hours. I've come here twice for their late hours and both times they were not open. Mind you, both times i went before 12:00 when theyre suppsed to be open til 1am. The first time they were just straight up closed and the second time they did last call at 11:00. I get closing early if it's slow, but 2 hours before closing seems a bit extreme. At least turn the open sign off. read more

Amazing food, friendly service, and great ambiance. I did rose xiang guo level 1 and it was amazing. Better than some of the mala places that I tried in Korea. Definitely coming back next time I visit socal. Get rose mala xuang guo and go to Porto's for some pastries. It can get super expensive when you get too excited and put all the ingredients into the bowl... but it still slaps. read more

The malatang was so good here! I loved the spice level of #1 ~ It was less spicy than a Shin Ramen! The flavor was also so tasty ~ not an overwhelming amount of mala too. The toppings were also so good, I tried an assortment of rice cakes and chewy noodles, lovee the chewy bites. We also ordered a side of the pork guobaorou and creamy shrimp guobaorou ~ they had a chewy texture and were crunchy too, we loved these ~ our group of 4 got seated immediately and the servers were so kind, the ambiance was so fun and lively too! highly recommend trying out, we'll be back! read more

This is my favorite place for malatang and now my new goto restaurant in OC. I went with a group of friends after a friend told us to give it a try and it did not disappoint. The ingredients are fresh and always stocked and the service is great as well. I've tried the inferno and extra hot spice levels, but prefer the extra hot as it is more flavorful. Overall, the entire experience is pleasant and I recommend you give this place a try. This place was so good I had to stop by again last night. read more

My initial experience is that this place was not ready to open on their grand opening. It was super disorganized. There should be a sign up front when you first come in to know what to do. In fact, there should be a host/hostess to assist you. I went there with my wife for lunch. We lined up, but soon realized we could just go to the right side where the food is and start choosing. We started choosing and at the meat section, there were no labels of what it was. There wasn't an employee to ask what it was. After we gathered what we had in our basket, we lined up. Then, when we lined up, the employee told us that we had to get a table first and get the table number. So, my wife went to find a table and the table number and came back to tell me. Then my wife had to make sure to sit there because someone else could sit at our table even though it is technically ours. Then I was ready to pay up front, but the employee said they collected payment after we ate. So, I go to my table. We waited and it took quite a long time to get water. The napkins and silverware were all self-serve. Later, my wife got her food ready first. Then mine came about 7 minutes later. The malatang we ordered was okay. Nothing special or exceptional. The spice level was good. The interior is very confusing. Lots of mixes of stuff from the previous restaurant that closed down. The layout in my opinion, doesn't make any sense. I'm sure not renovating it saves them a lot of money, but I think they need better interior design. At the end, I wanted to pay, but no servers came. Only twice. Once for water and for food. So I go to the front and say I want to pay, which I was able to. It came out around 60 bucks. Then I told my wife I've already paid, but she told me she received another receipt from the server which came out 80 bucks. Looks like the server brought the wrong food. So I told my wife that we paid and it's all good. Then we left. Our experience was very confusing, and felt like they were not prepared at all. Probably won't be coming back unless I hear that they renovated and made things more clear when you first come in. read more

Very spacious with a nice assortment of options to choose from the self-serve station at a fair price. I arrived for a later Sunday lunch and there was no wait. I opted for the classic Mala broth option and it tasted how I expected - doesn't stand out in comparison to other similar restaurants, but no complaints either! I appreciated how they serve you with individual hot pots (think boiling point) so that the soup stays hot and all the vegetables can thoroughly cook. read more

got their rose and also regular malatang! the rose was very heavy and filling but it was super good! would recommend it being shared or something tho bc the minimum weight they make you get is way too much for the regular person.. I went to this restaurant this morning, and while the food was okay, the service was pretty bad. It wasn't busy, and there were two servers--a man and a woman. Neither of them came by to check on us or ask if we needed anything. At one point, I asked the woman for a Coke refill, and she looked visibly annoyed. She brought the drink over and just kind of dropped it on the table without a word. The food was really delicious! It was nice to have a variety of toppings and to be able to control the spicy level. And the servers (especially Angela!) were so kind even the store was very busy. However, I think it would be nice if there was a little more soup in the malatang, and the rose malaxiangguo would taste better with a little more rosé flavor! For those of you who are going to eat rose malaxiangguo, I recommend lowering the spicy level so you can taste stronger rose flavor. Also, guobaorou and ade are the must! read more

Grab a bowl and fill it up with everything that catches your eye. They weigh it and then you get to choose between dry or with soup as well as the spice level. If you order the rose dry option, definitely recommend ordering medium spice. Mild was a little too bland. You have to get a minimum of 1lb. They will charge you for the price of one pound even if you get less than that. The soup option comes with a little burner to keep it warm throughoit the meal. It's different from Chinese malatang but we enjoyed this Korean malatang establishment. read more

A long waited malatan restaurant is finally opened. I still can't forget that delicious spicy taste. Me and my wite ordered lv. 3 spicy. Malatang is very delicious but don't order with Mala xiang Guo together. They both delicious. But If you eat malatang after eating mala xiangou, it may feel a little bland. The mala xiangou is delicious at first, but can be a bit salty once it cools down. The server was very kind and professional. Food was okay. The flavors were nice but I felt the price was steep for what you get.. It was 19.99/lb for the Rose Mala. Service was fine. My party didn't get sat right away so we were lost on how it worked. Ambiance was spacious. They have iPad so you can order additional items or call your server. My roommates and I came here on the grand opening day. We waited for about an hour before we were seated. Christina was the one who helped us the most. She was the one we saw rushing around everywhere to make sure all the customers were served. I was disappointed to hear that I couldn't tip her directly since they're pooled. They have some leftover decorations from when Fuddruckers was here so it was a little weird for me to see like the mobile gas pumps in there, lol. The food itself was pretty good. I ordered the tteokbokki and my roommates got the fried chicken, mala soup, and rice balls. Since it was the opening night, the kitchen was super backed up so I didn't get my meal until an hour after I ordered. Christina made sure to rush it in the kitchen for me since it was my only dish. I would come back, but probably not for another couple months. read more

I waited on this review after coming here twice and also after trying the other mala tang place across the street at The Source. The mala tang here is definitely better (both the broth and dry pot versions). I tried the rose mala on my second visit and it was nice and hearty due to the creaminess. One star off due to price. If it was cheaper, I'd probably come here more often. read more

Saw this place on one of my friends' ig story and decided to come on Thursday night. We got egg fried rice, mala xiang guo(rose and original), and pork guabaorou. It is not your typicial sit-down restaurant but all the workers were polite and helpful. The ingredients are all very fresh and the taste is on point! If you want more mala buzzing taste they have mayu available at the sauce bar so you can adjust the heat. it is bit on the pricier side but if you like red lips style xiang guo(iykyk) this definitely will hit the spot for you! Anyways I saw that they had plenty of noodle dishes to choose from so decided to give it a go. Ordered the yukkaejang (spicy braised beef soup) with the rolling dumplings (both kalbi and kimchi). The dumplings were called rolling because I assume they were rolled out and shaped into balls - spherical meat stuffing balls covered with a thin dumpling wrapper. I've eaten dumplings my entire life but this type of dumpling was a first for me so I was very interested in trying this out. Turns out the dumplings were pretty good. It does fall apart pretty easily when picking them up with chopsticks to dip into the sauce which was a bit annoying, so you should be mindful and careful of that if ordering them. The yukkaejang was not the best I've had but it was still pretty good. Prices were fair and the quality of food was solid. I wish they served free water as they make you buy bottles of water if you ask them for water. But with all that being said, I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.

The lo mein was underseasoned. The beef fried rice was underseasoned and mushy. The beef did not taste like it was high quality. My favorite thing that I had was steamed white rice with soy sauce. That's not a compliment, by the way. I'm not sure if the subpar food and service was because of the Father's day rush, but I definitely did not feel much of an urge to return. I unironically would rather go to Panda Express. At least I would be served on time.

One downside was that my friend noticed an unpleasant smell coming from the restroom since we were seated nearby, which was a bit of a bummer. The service was standard. Overall, I'd come back if it was convenient, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice if I had other options.

Food: 9/10 Parking: 8/10 Service: 6/10 Value: 7/10 Ambiance: 8/10 I recently checked out Shaolin Mala, a new spot in LA that's bringing the popular mala cuisine from Korea and New York to the West Coast. Despite being in OC, the parking lot is on the smaller side. Even at 9 PM, parking wasn't abundant. I ordered the Rose Mala Xiang Guo, Original Mala Tang, Guo Bao Rou, and some ade. The Mala Tang was truly delicious! Unlike many Korean-style mala tangs that have a strong peanut base, this one had a robust sesame oil flavor, which I loved. The Rose Mala Xiang Guo didn't have a strong mala taste, but the rose flavor was fantastic, giving it a unique fusion feel. However, the Guo Bao Rou was just okay - the exterior was crispy, but the meat was thin and a bit tough. The ade was tasty, but the ice chunks were too large. I went with level 3 spiciness for both the Mala Tang and the Mala Xiang Guo. Being a fan of spicy food, I found level 3 to be quite mild. The Xiang Guo, especially with the rose flavor, was less spicy than the Mala Tang. Next time, I'll try level 4 for the Mala Tang and level 5 for the Xiang Guo to kick up the heat. One downside was the service. Maybe it's because they just opened, but the staff didn't seem to know much about the sauces or ingredients when asked. If you need help and request it, some of the older staff members wouldn't make eye contact or acknowledge you, instead directing younger staff who were busy with other tasks to assist. This led to longer wait times and a less pleasant experience overall. Additionally, the value wasn't great. Considering the portion sizes, taste, and quality, the prices felt a bit high. I recently visited this restaurant with a friend to try their malatang and rose mala xiang guo. While the overall taste was good, our experience was disappointing. First, they got our order wrong by bringing us regular malatang instead of the rose mala xiang guo we had ordered. The server was nice and corrected our order, but even the new order had issues. As shown in my photos, a piece of plastic wrap from the udon was cooked into our malatang. We didn't notice it until we were packing up leftovers. When we informed a nearby server, he apologized and asked if we wanted a refund. We declined, suggesting instead that he inform the kitchen to prevent this from happening to other customers. However, in our opinion, it would have been better if the server had simply given us a refund without asking, especially since refunds are one of the fundamental customer service resolutions. I had high expectations for this place since it's well-known in Korea, but I was let down by the service. I'm unsure if the issues are due to them just opening, but the lack of attention to detail and inadequate customer service were disappointing. In the future, I hope the staff in the kitchen yield more attention to how they're preparing the food that'll go out to the diners. They're obviously the experts in prepping and cooking our orders, and the result was just disappointing. I hope those that try this restaurant don't have to deal with similar issues and have a better dining experience. read more

I visited this place today with my family. My family loves mala, but I'm not a big fan of it. The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was much better than I expected. The chicken fried rice, in particular, was really delicious. The mala flavor wasn't too strong, so I was able to enjoy it without getting tired of it. If you like mala, I definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

They couldn't even chop the spam correctly. Malatang is supposed to have a lot of soup, but it was full of toppings with no soup. The service was terrible; they seemed very short-staffed and unprofessional. They should have prepared more before their grand opening. They are definitely not ready to open to the public yet read more
