One of the most - if not THE MOST - authentic Italian places I've been too outside of Italia. We ordered the Napoli pizza, the veal grinder, and a hand full of espresso martinis made with actual espresso and baileys. Lord take the wheel!! I honestly don't know why it's #15 on the yelp reviews. It should be #1. Had the best grinder and pizza and the most heavenly espresso martini!! The owner, the owners son, the grandson, and the bar tender. Top notch. Yall should be lucky and blessed to make their acquaintance. Service is horrible , called at 4 pm Tuesday at 4 to put an order in , told the gentleman that I would call back before closing at 9 pm . I did call any I got the rudest person to answer , he didn't want to be bothered taking an order for the next day , that I would pick up for a party I was going to out of town to . One thing led to another and he ended up hanging up on me , so done with rude people . He obviously didn't want to help me because it was closing time 9 pm ! June 29th my beautiful wife, mother to our son- heir to the throne, asked me if I'd like to go to my "Favorite Italian Restaurant"?!? Naturally I responded in my daily sarcastic tone.... "Yes... the Olive Garden?" She replied, "WTF!" She laughed ... I laughed and we were off to Sorrento's in West Springfield MA. Parking lot was full when we arrived so we parked on the side street (not a problem). We sat at table #1, which is a corner booth, table, and two chairs in the bar area. Great spot , I highly recommend this table as you are tucked into a cozy corner booth, but can still people watch. This is also a great spotas it provides a clear view of all the TVs in the bar. So... I consider this visit to Sorrento's a solid NHL "Hat Trick"! Hat Trick = three goals score by a player in one game! Sorrento's is the player and this was our third time dinning in their restaurant. Score, SCore..SCORE!! Wow another amazing meal..... three in a row and all was great, AGAIN! Service: Our waiter was also the bartender. He was busy but was able to provide us with excellent service when ordering and checked back three times to see if we needed anything. He is a great multi-tasker... American Bartender Got Talent! (Note: this yelper & my wife were both bartenders so we know what we know.... Ya know?" The Food..... I had taken a screen shot pic of a dish from the Sorrento's FB page that I was dying to try. I flashed our waiter the pic and he immediately responded "Penne Gianna". Oh my deeeelicious!!!!! Shrimp, spinach, artichokes, peppers, tomatoes.....Italian spices and I believe I tasted a hint of citrus. Not a heavy dish, but full of flavors and textures. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend it! Next up my wife's meal choice: Chicken Parmigiana. Sauce was superb!! Very vibrant tomato taste. The spices do not overpower the natural tomato flavor. The chicken was tender & moist. Topped with a nice layer of caramelized cheese! Yummmm!! This dish sat on a bed of pasta. The pasta held up nicely with the sauce. She ate half and took home half.... Great lefter meal! Our son's dish: Mr Picky always gets chicken tenders and fries. He ate all of it so this indicates, deliciousness! Hit the brakes ..... I almost forgot about our appetizer!!!! We ordered the steak & cheese rolls. If you like steak and cheese this is a must have!!! Crunchy/flaky outside roll, stuffed with tender steak and melted cheese, paired with a dipping sauce that had a subtle kick! EAT IT! BAMM Desert: well, we were comfortably full... so no desert this round, but I did enjoy an espresso. The espresso was strong, not bitter and the crema was flavorful, aromatic and dense! Perfecto (This yelper & family are professional coffee bean roasters.... We know what we know!) Let's conclude with.... First time getting food from here after passing by the restaurant for probably almost 10 years. It was a big disappointment. While our son's pizza was decent- no complaints, our grinders were not good. My eggplant parm, supposed to be toasted and the bread was just warm on a hoagie kind of roll vs a true grinder roll that gets nice and crispy. This was the least of the issues though. The very thin few pieces of eggplant were barely breaded and far from crispy... it was wet thin slices of cooked eggplant that had absolutely no seasoning and maybe the tiniest amount of cheese. The other issue was... where is the sauce??!! There at best was a tablespoon, if that, of sauce on the grinder. I ate essentially a warm hoagie roll, with 2 thin slices of unseasoned wet eggplant, a tiny amount of cheese barely to be seen and no sauce. My husband's steak grinder, as he put it was,"ehhhh." He said it also had no flavor. Last thing that has nothing to do with the food itself but service, was that when I went to enter the door in the back, there was a worker smoking where he was engulfed in a huge cloud of smoke all around him. As I went to open the door, he was finishing up and also went back in using the door near him. As I got the front counter just seconds away after entering, he was in the kitchen getting right back to work.... Ummm no hand washing?? This is just disgusting, and knowing I saw him smoking, think he could take at least a few seconds to scrub his hands. We are disappointed and will not be back. It's been a while since I've been inside, and this isn't the neighborhood restaurant I remembered. I was ordering takeout, but the new, glossy ambiance was a bit to take in. The counter person was friendly and quickly took my order. While I waited, a disheveled-looking staffer was having a loud, across-the-room discussion with a man (presumably a supervisor) about expiration dates on the milk he was stocking the bar with. My grinder was ready quickly (the cook was the same person stocking the milk) and I was on my way. I was a bit disappointed when I opened my sandwich. The roll was barely toasted and there were unmelted areas of cheese. The peppers and onions were raw, not sauteed; it wasn't how I remembered them. However the meatballs and sauce were tasty. Next time, I'll try a dine-in meal, possibly one of the decidedly upscale specials on their chalkboard. Or maybe it'll be an old favorite; hoping that while the setting has changed, the homey goodness remains. read more

First time trying their pizza today. Ordered online for delivery which was a decent experience. The online menu isn't as intuitive as it could be it but easy enough for anyone to figure it out. I ordered a large half cheese, half-pepperoni mushroom. Ended up with half cheese and half pepperoni hamburger. Which, whatever, it was still good. Delivery was quick and came earlier than time quoted. Driver was very nice and friendly. Great pizza. There are a number of pizza places in the area and I like theirs better than most others. As Always this restaurant is phenomenal! Nicky( owner) recognizes & appreciates his ling time customers, unlike many other places that do not put their customers first! We have been going here since they first opened and their pizzas are absolutely extraordinary!!! I am fussy about the sauce & their sauce is scrumptious! We used to eat in the restaurant but unfortunately due to hospital stays in Boston we have been ordering our food to be delivered! Many places will skimp on toppings on their pizza, you order to be delivered but definitely not here! Their pizzas are consistently loaded & all with fresh ingredients too! The young girl who always takes our order is friendly & fast, going over your order twice to make sure she got everything right! She is so sweet but professional too! My husband said "KAREN, FEEL THIS BOX HOW HEAVY THIS PIZZA IS AND I DID, AMAZED AT HOW MUCH THAT PUZZA WEIGHED!Tons of mozzarella, eggplant, sausage, meatballs, fresh pepper, virgin olive oil all over everything ( keeps it moist too), fresh tomatoes etc! This pizza was sheer heaven & believe me, having three grandsons, plus son & daughter-in-law living right here in town, pizza is their favorite meal, like all kids, but we have ordered practically from every place in town! Unequivocally, Sorento's is the best! Nice thin & very crisp crust too! Love that! We ordered calamari which came with spaghetti sauce & the calamari was sweet & tender! There was a good sized portion too! We ordered two large grinders & just like the pizza, they were loaded with mozzarella, peppers( you need to ask for them & no extra charge) with ingredients spilling out of the bread! Everyone loved everything! Sorrentos never skimps on the ingredients! In the past I have had their ziti, rigatoni pasta & it is always el dente & never overcooked! I ask for extra sauce & I get it! Just love this restaurant! I always check to see if they have Italian Run Cake( my favorite) but get cannolis if they are out of cake & my husband gets the chocolate moose cake! Their soups are amazing too & love that they are served nice & hot! Having tepid to downright cold food at many restaurants seems to be the norm lately( when I eat in) but having it delivered home the food is unfailingly nice & hot, just like I love it! Lastly, check their daily specials for he has some great dishes but by far my very favorite in the whole world is his grilled swordfish with grilled fresh vegetables! I could rhapsodize about this dish forever! Yes, it is just that good! He doesn't have it often unfortunately ( I always check) but if you like swordfish & see this offered, due yourself a favor and order it! I promise you that you will love it! The fish is fresh & love the flavor! The way he grills it is positively amazing! The grilled vegetables that he whips up could easily be my main course for it is just that good!!! How I wish he had this on the menu every day fir I would order it! These vegetables were truly incredible! Last of all May I comment on the man who normally delivers our food! He is equally as amazing ! The food is supposed to arrive in 30 to 35 mins but it came lots sooner( we were so surprised & happy! Mind you, we ordered tons of food too! No cheap containers but packed in heavy containers so no spills! Condiments, napkins, everything is "THERE!" Not once has my order been goofed up & he had to return! The delivery person is friendly, fast & very competent! He does an excellent job as everyone working here does! In closing May I add that if you love Italian food( they have other things on their menu too), delicious, hot pizza, delicious Italian dishes cooked perfectly, prepared by a friendly, knowledgeable staff, you need to go to this very, very special Italian restaurant! My wife and I went to West Springfield to see relatives. We stopped to eat at Sorrento Pizza & Restaurant. The owner, Pasquale Albano, greeted us warmly upon our visit.. The food was delicious. No lack of quality or QUANTITY. Our server was a nice and attentive young lady name Gianna. We had Salad, Calamari, Pasta, Veal and some Pizza....If you want the best "real food" experience, you would be truly missing out if you did not try this restaurant. My go to place for chicken cutlet grinders, the best around. Last night, decided to have a ham and cheese. Asked for the ham to be shaved as that is how I like it on a grinder. The girl said their cold cuts are pre-sliced. I asked if she could please just slice it fresh. She asked if I would take it thin. I said as long as it was really really thin, almost shaved. She said that they would do it. When I got it home, it was too thick, I think they just gave me what ever they regularly use. So I didn't eat it. You'd also see my family scarfing down pasta like chicken parm, veal parm, and pizza. We go here every so often when we crave Italian food. I'm telling you to go and get some food to go or eat in the restaurant, get some wine. The Chianti is 26 bucks for a bottle, which isn't too bad, considering how good it is. All entrees come with salad which were good the provolone cheese was a nice touch. Scrod Francese is a must!!! Baby clams with linguine were okay. If your unsure what to order though and looking around you at plates for ideas forget it, I was there on a night there must have been a lot of family and friends and they serve up different kinds of pasta and sauces for them which the regular customer cannot order (I tried order a nearby plate that looked great, and got the response that's a one and done dish) and then proceeded to serve other assuming family or friends that pasta. Solid local pizza place. Best in West Springfield hands down, always consistent. I rate the pizza next to Red Rose. Great grinders, garlic bread, and salads etc. The dinners don't excite me so much, but they have all the classic Italian cuisine you would expect. They also offer smaller lunch portions on most of the menu. Chicken Parm is baked instead of fried, so its not too crispy. Pasta and sauces are good. Prices are decent. I wish they were open later. They do offer delivery. I've never dined in, but they have a small dining room. They also have a party room and offer catering. Between the incredible food and the amazing cooks behind them,u also come across some of the best people in the world when visiting this first class establishment...from the owner and his amazing family...all the way to the delivery guy...u won't find better people to feed u..the customers are always happy in the dining room..and the regulars religiously come back every week,like me. Was in the area and had a craving for a grinder, so figured I would give it a try. I came in and ordered for carry out. The person at the cash register was very helpful and patient as I stumbled through the menu. I ordered a hot turkey grinder, a soda, and a bag of chips. The food was ready pretty quickly, around five minutes. The only reason this place lost a start is because I think the prices are a little on the high side (the grinder was about a dollar higher than necessary in my opinion). Came here for a grinder and fries and I have to say it was the BEST grinder I've had in a long time! So I decided to come back the following week for a salad and it wasn't the best. It was a great sized salad but the grilled chicken had no flavor and was a bit under-cooked, the croutons were not actual croutons, but more like the ends of grinder bread put in the oven. I was visiting the area and just was in the mood for a really good pie. So I searched the place in the area with the best reviews. Sorrento's fit the bill. I placed my order at a quarter to 7 p.m. yesterday. They told me 45 minutes based on my address. I called to verify they had the correct address after an hour. After another 1/2 hour passed, I called to cancel the order. The person I talk to assured me that the pizza would still be hot and that the delivery person would bring it back. Although my better senses told me to cancel the order, I realized that they would probably just take it out the delivery persons check...So the order arrives and, of course it goes without saying, the pizza was cold, the dressing for the salad was wrong, the dessert was soggy. Surely these conditions were brought on by traveling in the backseat of the delivery persons car for an extended period of time. Luckily, this is a business trip, so I'll just expense this 30 + bill and get reimbursed. The pie was probably excellent when it was hot. Or even warm. But I can tell after biting into my cold slices, that it was probably a darn good pie -- thus, the additional star. Unfortunately their service ruined my experience. The sad part about this is that I come back to this area quite a bit. I'll guess I'll have to patronize elsewhere... read more
