Admittedly, the Mendham/Far Hills/Bernardsville pizza scene is kind of weak. Some places are ok, some are awful, but none are really stellar. One of the better ones is Sorrento's in Mendham. The Sicilian is a typical thick-crust pie, good sauce and quality cheese, even though they missed a spot on this one . The Pizza Fina (thin crust) isn't thin like Star or Pete and Elda's or any of the other places that have bar pies, but it is thinner than their regular cheese pie. Folks are nice, which is always a plus.

Penne Ala vodka pizza - delicious!

Edited review - after a rough first experience, I gave this place another shot and I'm glad I did. The customer service has really improved and the pizza is still delicious. -------- If I could write a review of just that Penne Ala Vodka pizza, this would be a whole lot easier. 5 stars easy. I'm not usually a fan of pasta on pizza either - too dry. But this was just perfect. Unfortunately the experience did not consist solely of eating the pizza. I needed to pick up the pizza, and that is where the trouble started. The first thing the owner said when I said I was picking up my GrubHub order was "you paid the wrong price." Of course, I have no control of the prices reflected on GrubHub, but he didn't seem to agree and he was pretty angry about it. Two important notes: (1) this is new ownership at a neighborhood place (not a good start) and (2) we were talking about $1.50 on an ~$30 order. In other food news, the chicken piccata had an excellent sauce, but was way too small of a portion for the price. The side Caesar salad which my wife was excited for ended up as a garden salad. Oh, but that pizza.

I don't know what all the negative reviews were about... They had a lot of pizzas to choose from: white, Sicilian, pepperoni etc... This place has been here forever too (though I believe it has changed ownership a couple times). The pizza was good, straight, standard New York style. Meets the benchmark.

    Yum yum

Been coming here for years. Under new ownership!!!!!! The owner came and introduced himself and even asked what we thought of the food. Felt very warm. Will definitely be back. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!!

    Sausage pizza not cooked

Sausage pizza was raw and worked refused to refund for it. Unfortunate customer service.

The buffalo wings is great, lick my fingers. Come here all the time on the weekend, always get the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. It's the best pizza in town. Definitely recommend it.

This salad was amazing from sorrentos!

I wasn't enthusiastic, but he said to meet him at his Dad's house in Bernardsville, and he'd drive me up and back (with my bad night vision, I don't relish the thought up driving up through the Bernardsville mountains into Mendham in the dark, a hesitancy of which he's aware of). Given that he was making it as easy and painless as possible, how could I say no? He suggested Dante's. I was agreeable enough, but with the new draconian diet I'm on, I had a little trepidation about ordering. It's almost an article of faith that in any new Italian restaurant I try, I'll be ordering (a) pasta fagioli (b) lasagna (c) ice cream. The parking in back didn't seem particularly spacious to my cataract-compromised eyesight, but my friend was able to secure a spot without difficulty. Inside the restaurant was large and airy (an impression helped along, no doubt, by the fact that we were the only patrons at that point), and the server was friendly and enthusiastic. We followed her to our table and perused the menu. No lasagna, so I was relieved of that particular temptation. Pasta fagioli was there under "Appetizers", but I was able to resist. The server presented us with complimentary Foccia Bread with cheese, which was delicious. We ordered glasses of water, and the only negative part that I could relate about the whole night's experience was that I also ordered a Coke, which I never got. Then again, the server might have perceived I was on a draconian diet, and realized that a Coke, with all its calories and sugar, wasn't going to help me in that endeavor. All joking aside, she was friendly and efficient, and I have no complaints about the service. Bathrooms were clean and functional. I ended up ordering the Lemon Sole Oreganata, accompanied by fresh broccoli and 2 sizable shrimp. I've never had a problem ordering fish (other than the expense) but I was a little apprehensive that it might not be filling enough. It was -- both filling and tasty. As usual, I didn't pay much attention to what my friend ordered, but he expressed more than an abundant satisfaction with it. A word about ice cream--- I've given up alcohol, opioids, and I've been adhering to the diet I've belatedly become serious about (in a few months, I've lost 24 pounds), but I'm never entirely going to give up ice cream (and at some point in the future I expect to eat lasagna again too; not often, but...occasionally...). I haven't had a lot of ice cream since I started the diet, but...given my restraint when it came to the pasta fagioli...I threw caution to the wind and ordered 2 scoops of vanilla. I anticipated small scoops, but they were large ones. Did that stop me? No. I consumed this rare treat with great alacrity. It was a delicious, satisfying indulgence. And... next morning...I discovered I had actually lost a pound. I'm happy that ice cream can be like a cousin who lives far away. You don't see them often, but when you do, it's a happy, satisfying occasion. And lasagna? It's that favored uncle who lives in upstate NY... The prices are reasonable enough, the food is plentiful, fresh and tasty, and there's a pleasant, down-home atmosphere to dining here. After we had been seated, a group of happy, Italian-speaking people came in to partake, and they seemed like regulars. Evidently, Dante's has been around for a long time, and I look forward to dining there again. Recommended.

Favorites were the calamari, spicy and perfectly cooked, spicy campanelle with shrimp, and chicken cutlets (addictively tasty). We were in a side room and our server was hopping. Great service. Drinks were served in a timely manner and were well made. I had an old fashioned with Woodford bourbon (OK I had two) and they were properly made. When in the area the next time, I would not hesitate to visit again.

Service - impeccable. Extreme attention to detail. This is a small (as in 7-8 tables) dining establishment so with this small of a service you know they must meet the mark every time. We started with an order of bruschetta. Not the typical. Small warm bread with a nice thick slice of a ripe tomato / parm, mild garlic and olive oil. Delicious bites! Appetizer: Cavolo Bianco e Gamberetti ( Wild Gulf Shrimp, Braised Savoy Cabbage, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Parsley Velouté). This was so different from any shrimp app you would order in another Italian restaurant. The cabbage was so buttery and the shrimp were good size and perfect taste and texture. You look at those ingredients and think how does this work? But it was a masterpiece. Main: Tagliatelle Al Ragù (Veal, Beef & Pork Tritato, Organic Vegetable Soffritto, Parmigiano Reggiano). Think refined bolognese. Incredible bursts of flavor in what is such a simple dish. Dessert: Millefoglie Calda (Warm Pastry, Lemon Pasticcera, Wildflower Honey, Almond Gratinato). Perfect end to this meal. The pastry was a warm crunchy crust with this little bit of heaven in a lemon filling. Each dish was a perfect picture, and great detail was given to the menu and ingredients. It's been a while since I have left a restaurant and immediately made plans for my next visit. This is a bring your own. It is also not a pizzeria / trattoria or your neighborhood Italian restaurant. This is truly fine dining and you will not be disappointed.

Actually a 2 person show. Either MGR./owner greeted us and offered where to sit. The venue is small and quaint. It is BYOB and the waitress came back to open wine and offer sparkling or tap. We started off with the gentlemen recommendation of bruschetta. It arrived and it came out warm. My wife was ok with it. Me I liked it. Next up we split a bolongese tagliatelle pasta dish. A perfect mixture of Veal, beef pork was hands down one of the best bolognese pasta dishes I have ever had. I am first generation Italian and have been blessed in my home. Their bolognese was special. My wife had the chicken dish spinach and potatoes. She liked it thought it was a tad sweet but did like it. I had the pork medallions with potatoes and spinach. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. My pork was a tad sweet but mixed with the potatoes and spinach was terrific We ended up with a lemon dessert that came out warm and was delicious. In addition had another raspberry dessert from establishment and that was delicious. The place is small well lit pretty windows to view. The other patrons were all enjoying their time. No drama and couldn't ask for better patrons. The waitress was excellent and my wife and I truly loved this place. We will be back keep in mind reservations are needed. We were fortunate to score on a Friday. Their are nine tables why reservations are needed. They also offer a prix fix just in case and is reasonable. I will definitely be back and I'm doing that bolognese pasta not on a share but as a main. Terrific place Recommend
