I went to Sorrento's on Monday February 1st 2010 to get a Torpedo sandwich for my buddy. My friend needed to visit the Starbucks and he asked me a favor to go order a Torpedo sandwich to save time so we could visit Long Beach harbor before work. So I ordered a Torpedo sandwich and paid it with his money and kept the receipt with the claim number on it. She wouldn't even print me out a "genuine" receipt with all the tax information on it BTW. So my friend comes back and I give him the receipt with the claim number on it so he can pick up his sandwich. A minute later he comes back to me where we are parked in the parking lot and he said that the lady behind the counter told him that she had already given the torpedo sandwich to me. So I take the receipt and go back there to find out why she would tell a lie about me having already picked up the sandwich which is not the case. When I get inside and ask her, instead of her telling me there was a 25 year old Caucasian male telling me that they figured my friend was just a (and I quote) "fraud" who picked up the receipt off the ground and is trying to swindle the business by stealing a sandwich. So they basically called my friend a "Thief" on the first day of the month of Feb the start of this decade. They then give me the sandwich and throw away the receipt. Notice how they never handed me a real receipt which I suspect is because they don't pay all their taxes. They are doing their fair share to make California fall apart by not paying their taxes. What they did was highly illogical. Here's why. If my friend were a stranger who picked up the claim slip from the ground, how in the world would he know to tell them that it was a "torpedo sandwich" in the first place because the claim slip does NOT specify what was ordered? The stupidity of these people is so appalling. I feel they are so racist against their own kind. Because the 2 employees who deceived me inside were both Caucasian and so was my friend who they suspected was a thief. What worries me is that if they can be prejudiced against their own kind the way they did, how much more would they dislike someone like me for being Asian and not even the same skin color as themselves? In conclusion I discovered that the owners of Sorrento's are liars, racists, and tax thiefs. It's so very sad. They just lost 2 loyal customers and these 2 customers will tell everyone else not to buy anything from them, so they lost an infinite amount of customers. I would highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs and I would never step foot in that restaurant again. Even if they were the last restaurant still open in the entire world. read more

Sorrentos is a very special place for me. It has served as my family's favorite Italian restaurant in the area and has been the place of many great memories! From birthday parties to weekly dinners, we eat here a lot! There is something very warm and comfortable about this place and its food. For the 25+ years that I have been eating here nothing has changed, from the menu to the staff to the murals of Sorrento, Italy and the nostalgic photos of old San Pedro. They are very well known around town for having great pizza, which they do, but it doesn't end there. A few of my favorite dishes are the rigatoni marinara, gnocchi, and seafood spaghetti. Their sauce is so incredibly delicious, that I could probably find some way to eat it every night of the week. If you are in the mood for a sandwich, their eggplant parmasan is incredible. My mom loves the Swordfish sandwich, which I have found can be hit or miss. My dad always ordered the chicken cacciatore and my sister the cannelloni or stuffed shells. All are tasty and come in enormous portions. I just recently moved down the street from them and will be enjoying many meals there again!! read more

I USED to be a huge fan. I had an eggplant parmesan sandwich about 3 weeks ago. About 2 hours after eating it, I was throwing up uncontrollably. The most violent food poisoning I have ever experienced. I thought I would give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, a lot of people get sick this time of year and it could have just been a bug. Last night I ordered their "special" chicken philly sandwich. The acid reflux kept was unbearable and I slept maybe a total of 3 hours. This morning, I had morning sickness like pregnant woman, I couldn't even think about possibly eating or drinking anything my stomach pains were so bad. I am now experiencing food poisoning AGAIN, and just as violent. I don't know if it is their poor choice of ingredients, working conditions, or some other possible factor that led me to be ill, but I no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone. I have been coming here for years and have never had any issues. This is all within the last month or so. Sorry Sorrentos, but get your sh** together. read more

I decided to visit this restaurant on a friend's recommendation, and I'm glad I did. On a leisurely Saturday morning, seeking refuge from the summer heat, I drove over an hour to try it out. I arrived just before opening time, but the staff welcomed me in to peruse the menu. I soon discovered their most popular item was the Torpedo Sandwich, so I ordered it as soon as I was seated when the restaurant opened. Though the space is modest, it exudes a cozy, homey atmosphere. My sandwich arrived quickly, accompanied by a fresh, crispy side salad with a delicious blue cheese dressing. The sandwich itself was fantastic--freshly made bread, perfectly balanced meat and cheese. I finished it in under 10 minutes, still feeling a bit peckish, so I decided to try the Tiramisu. It came out swiftly and was absolutely delightful. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in the area! read more

I recently checked out a cute Italian spot in San Pedro and had such a great experience! I ordered the Antipasto salad, meatball sub, and the Tour of Italy--everything was absolutely delicious. We ordered dinner for Mother's Day . Spaghetti and meatball with salad and garlics bread not enough sauce on pasta . Never received salad I ordered with blue cheese . Ravioli were suppose to have cheese in side but only 4 had cheese .two sandwiches one meatball the other sausage they were just fine . Marinated mushrooms always excellent and my daughter's seafood pasta with salad and garlics bread bread she says was ok . I'm a regular to dine in but was very unhappy with this meal read more

The food here is spectacular! You get large portions in everything you order. The pizza is how it should be, thin (unless you ask for thick), crispy, cheesy, full of toppings, and delicious! They have wonderful chicken dishes as well as fish dinners. The service is good and friendly. This is a great family restaurant for everyone to enjoy! The same family that opened the restaurant still own and operate it today. I recommend it to everyone. read more

Great place to bring family and get some great homemade Italian plates. The menu has some fantastic items, and the pasta dishes really do impress. One of their best items is their pizza. A nice not-too-thick crust that has a great texture and slight chewiness to it. With their fresh ingredients and house sauce - it's worth the time to pick it up! read more

Was in the San Pedro area for the weekend and popped in to Sorrento's yesterday. I was delighted to see they had eggplant, so I ordered an eggplant parmesan hero and it was out of this world good. I grew up in NY and my bar is really high for eggplant parmesan. Hats off to Sorrento's! Grazie!!! read more

Unfriendly and bitter old ladies staff this place. They are probably the descendants of the original "sorento" guy. Even the poor cooks seem scared of these old hags. Lucky for the hags, Halloween is coming up, and these witches already have their costumes on. read more

Truly disappointed! First of all. 30 dollars for an extra large! The pizza was super greasy and made a mess on my wife's shirt when she was holding the box. The cheese was slipping off the whole pizza and making a huge mess. Definitely don't recommend read more

This is my favorite pizzeria hands down, also the chicken parm. And chicken salad there is a dinning room wich get pretty crowded for dinner time on the weekends so plan ahead or call and make a reservations read more

This place is great if you don't mind spending for Italian import. The restaurants are not cheap but they offer nice wine selection. The grocery itself has many good stations like the fresh pasta and butcher. read more
