Favorite neighborhood deli! I go at least once a week for their delicious sandwiches and great baked goods.

Shop has definitely expanded beyond its capacity at this point to handle crowds- you don't pay until you get your food apparently, so that leads to lots of confusion over who's paying for what. There's not much room in this shop in the first place and people crowding around to order/wait for food/pay make the atmosphere rather chaotic even with just a few people. Each of the individual cashiers doesn't communicate with one another, making for a confusing mess.They need to work out a more efficient system in the future and/or change the layout of the store a bit. Egg and Cheese Sandwich bagel...which came highly recommended, was only okay. Lots of cream cheese on it, but there's just not a lot of flavor. Decent prices though. I'd like to give this place another shot in the future and the list of sandwiches on the menu looks mouthwatering. Coffee selection (of all things) also seemed varied, if a bit pricey. If I went here for every Saturday brunch, I'd be a happy woman. Due to deliciousness, I've only been able to try the egg/cheese/tomato on a croissant and the veggie pocket. Oh, and the chocolate dipped macaroons (worth the price). Delicious sandwiches here at So's Your Mom. Combined with the inexpensive (read: normal anywhere else) prices, you can't go wrong at this place. I only know of one other deli in the District where I can get a sandwich for this cheap and they are nowhere as perfect there. Cash only is a bummer since it's goddamned 2012 and every restaurant should accept my electronic credit chits, but that's no reason to mark 'em down. Plus there are like five banks nearby to fill up on paper money. The menu is really expansive. You'd have to come every day for at least a month and a half to try all of the sandwich offerings. All of them are good. But if you're not feeling ~adventurous,~ the old standards like pastrami, roast beef, turkey, or a BLT won't disappoint in the slightest. read more

Really good, really cheap bagels. They have a decent system and are pretty quick despite it being a popular spot for getting your carbs on a weekend morning. It's a family business and the employees are really nice. The name is a bit of a mystery but adds to the charm, I guess? read more

I'm not going to pretend I'm a bagel connoisseur, as apparently all of D.C. is. I like their bagels. They are good. Also good: bulk coffee beans, egg breakfast sandwiches, rye bread, havarti, sprouts, lox, newspapers, the name "So's Your Mom," and yes the cute cashier. Not good: brewed coffee, no credit, somewhat slow and always packed on weekend mornings. The bagel sandwiches were good but I don't think worth the wait and hype. Plus there was no adequate seating. Hard to eat with no table. What was annoying was the community table inside was occupied by this group who had clearly finished eating and were just chatting. Not a big deal if there was seating for everyone who got their food. Positive: The prices are reasonable and it's in an extremely convenient location if you live in the Woodley Park/Adams Morgan Area. Negative: Well, where do I begin? The service was slow. The space is cramped and they do not offer any seating. To be even more 'convenient', it's a cash-only establishment. We both had an egg sandwich and we were not impressed with the eggs. Sadly we've had better at Einstein's Bagel! Overall: We were disappointed because of all the "best DC bagel" reviews. We are curious/hesitant to try their lunch specials. One of the best places to get a sandwich for lunch in DC. In 10 years, I've only found a couple of sandwich places that even come close. Fresh ingredients. More of the good stuff, less of the bread (especially if you get the pita bread, as I do). Nice selection of cheeses. I always leave here happy. Their egg and cheese bagels are a great weekend option. They're hearty too. Get one of those bad boys with coffee or fresh squeezed orange juice and go sit in the park. Oh, yeah. (NB: cash only. More like 3.5. We had a smoked salmon sandwich on a toasted pumpernickel bagel and a smoked whitefish sandwich on an everything bagel. The salmon was kind of meh, the whitefish was great, but the tomatoes nearly ruined both. Also, not enough capers on the salmon sand. Price was fine (~$6 a piece). read more

Very small, cramped, and old store. At 9 AM on a Saturday it was packed with folks picking up bagels, muffins, and breakfast sandwiches. I had a 2.5 star sausage, egg & cheese on sesame bagel, and an extremely strong, dark-roasted iced coffee. Great bagel shop in Adams Morgan that sells high quality food at decent prices. It also has a certain charm that stems from their lack of any attempt to be charming but instead focusing on quickly serving up good food at fair prices. You can get a bagel and cream cheese for a few bucks or a bagel sandwich for a bit more. It's cash only and there was no line to order when I came in, but there was a crowd of about 10-15 people waiting for their food, though the wait went by quickly. The staff is very friendly and willing to help if you have questions. I tried the iced coffee as well and it was good but not really anything special. read more

So's Your Mom is like having you actual mom working at a store and making you homemade sandwhiches like you were kid. Of course, now you gotta pay. Another go-to place for my wife and I. Highly reccomend their Turkey and Havarti as well as the Roast Beef and Cheddar. They use Boar's Head deli meat which is fantastic. I really like all the selections of potatoe chips they have. Tons to choose from. Also, the Doc Brown's Cherry Soda is great. Ive had a few things from the dessert case. Its mostly baked goods and pastries. All have not tasted that fresh, but not bad. Stick to the sandwiches and you will keep coming back. read more

I've been to So's Your Mom several times since moving to DC and it's continued to grow on me. Unfortunately, I think it's earned it's rating because of the pour competition. Definitely the best bagel in DC, but there isn't really anywhere else that's putting up a good fight. Their bagels sandwiches are delish. I haven't ventured into their deli salads, but I've got my fingers crossed that they're equally as tasty. A lot of people dislike the fact that So's Your Mom is cash only. I kind of love it. It makes the place feel homey, local, and rooted in the community. Especially when you try to pay with a card, and they just say, "you pay next time." Love it! Best bagels in the city! You might have to wait in a long line on the weekends, but it's worth the wait. I've started calling my orders in advance, which saves a lot of time. I usually stick with their everything bagel and coffee, bu their sandwiches are amazing also. read more

The food was perfect! I got the pastrami and the bread was excellent, toasted just right. My husband got the Corned Beef with Duck Liver. I have to say, I was slightly disgusted by the liver, but it was actually good. A great combination. If you are near it, this place is a must! read more

Eh. It's ok. I stopped by one morning for a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. It was alright. Worth eating, but not worth a repeated visit. The bagel itself was pretty bad. I don't know if it was a day old, but it tasted like the packaged bagels you would get in the grocery store. I doubt they're in the back making bagels. This place would get 5 stars if they accepted debit cards. Yes, I know there is a Bank of America right outside. If you want to deduct the $3.00 ATM fee from the meal, I'd be happy to use it. Nevertheless, this place makes the best bagels with lox in all of DC. They are perfect - flawless - so good they bring tears to my eyes. If they accepted credit cards, I would eat at least one every day. It's probably a good thing they don't, actually. **UPDATE** I recently ate bagels and lox in Sag Harbor, NY that shamed the bagels and lox at So's Your Mom. Not that I expect a small DC deli to compete with a pricey brunch spot in the Hamptons, but, regardless, I can no longer say their bagels and lox are "perfect". But I'll still eat them. ***UPDATE 2*** Possibly in response to my reviews (I know, it's a long shot), the lox bagel has seemed to have improved recently. They are absolutely delicious. For this, I am moving So's Your Mom up one star. Having a good lox bagel nearby me gives me comfort, like knowing Bush is out of office. Yay! I am a fan, but it's probably partly because there isn't much else to compete with So's Your Mom in Adams Morgan. I'm satisfied about 90% of the time I go in there, but they could probably rethink a couple of things to make this the kind of place that I can brag about to my friends who don't live in the neighborhood. For the nitty gritty: The breakfast situation is stellar. Egg sandwiches on bagels, etc - it's a winner. Definitely be specific about toasting and such though, this isn't the kind of place that goes above and beyond your order. Lunch does what it is supposed to do. I'm personally a fan of the pastrami, but have tried almost everything (no liver though) and can't complain about the options or meats. The breads though can sometimes be a little disappointing, though. I'm skeptical about the pastries, the one eclair i had was disappointing, but I don't want to judge too much. read more

We walked to this place from our hotel near Dupont Circle because other reviewers made it sound like an attractive place to stop for breakfast. Instead, we found that it doesn't provide any room for seating other than a rickety bench on the sidewalk, but more disappointing was the quality of the food. The bagels we got were soft and bland and the chive cheese lacked much distinctive flavor. I like an onion bagel that has a good crust and chewy texture but the one I got lacked both. Despite the fact that there is an array of open bins filled with different coffees from various origins displayed on the floor of the store, the coffee we were served was thin and uninteresting. We dumped it out and it was one of the first times I've ever been happy to find that there was a Starbucks only about a block away. The coffee we had there was definitely superior. There is a quirky selection of packaged food items on the shelf and we picked up a jar of preserved Louisiana chili peppers that I have never seen before. And their menu includes a range of other sandwiches and prepared foods that we didn't sample so I can't give a complete review. My feeling is that this place may be a useful resource for local residents but I don't recommend it as a destination or for people looking for a place to stop for breakfast. read more

So many choices for sandwiches and deli meats. I had the chicken salad on a toasted bagel and it was massive! I had to eat some with a fork because it was overflowing from the bagel. It is cash only and no seating but the staff is so friendly and even held my food while I ran to get cash next door. Obviously not a large monetary value, but it's the thought that counts. This is the best little local, family-owned deli! The bagels are fresh, delicious and pretty cheap. They have good cream cheese flavors - I recommend the strawberry! I've been frequenting this spot for over a decade, but mostly in the summer. Now that summer is back and I'm dining in the parks again I took my first trip of the year to So's. Yet again they failed to disappoint! Avocado & Turkey with sprouts, stone ground mustard (light) and pepper-jack on multigrain.... Wish I had added tomatoes! it's just great. Make your own sandwich or order off their board. Don't forget the sides in the case by the drinks! After you've ordered take a look at the shelf behind you with all the snacks and goodies. I adore So's Your Mom. The people behind the counter are super friendly, and the food is delicious... what's not to love? This little market/deli excels at both making food to go as well as bringing in wholesome specialty ingredients from all over the globe to prepare at home. A heads-up: this place is cash-only, but the trip to the ATM is well worth the incredible bagels, or a deli sandwich put together with high-quality Boar's Head meats.
