I've had their lox and scallion cream cheese many times and they will put 2x the amount of cream cheese to lox - you may want to request for them to go light on this if you like to have more balance. I would also say that for butter on bagel you might want to ask for it on the side. I say this only because the melted butter is everywhere inside the wrapper and can drip out. I love their iced coffee and the fact that they always have simple syrup on their self-serve station. It is a milder coffee which I enjoy.

If I could give six stars, I absolutely would. So's Your Mom is honestly the closest thing I've found to a New York bodega vibe in Northwest DC, and I adore this place. I stop in at least once a week and I'm incredibly boring because I almost always get a plain bagel, but somehow it is exactly what I want every single time. And every once in a while they have salt bagels and I get irrationally excited about it. Maybe they have them more often and I'm just showing up too late, but finding one feels like winning the lottery. The family that runs this place is just wonderful. They take really good care of people and you can feel that when you walk in. I know a lot of people go for the sandwiches, but I love the whole experience: ordering my bagel and then immediately wandering over to the snack aisle. Calling it an aisle almost undersells it because it's not huge, but somehow it's packed with random treasures. They always seem to have unique snacks from different places or really high quality things you don't see everywhere else. I somehow never leave with only a bagel. A couple quick notes for first-timers: it's cash only, and as a dog owner myself, don't bring your dog inside. Just be respectful. This place has so much heart, and in a city where everything can feel a little polished or curated, So's Your Mom just feels real. Love this place. read more

It's always a pleasure coming to this place. I personally don't understand people who are giving this place a 3 or 4 stars just because it's cash only... YES, it is 2014. YES, it is cash only, but have you thought of the fact that prices are lower than a lot of places BECAUSE it's cash only? It honestly won't kill you to have some cash in your wallet anyway... what's the big deal? Food is always consistently fresh and delicious, so I can't complain. Anyway, now that I got that off my chest.. Bagels are always toasted to perfection (crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside). Everything bagel extra toasted with cream cheese and tomatoes is my personal favorite for breakfast. For lunch, I always either get a BLT with avocado on toasted rye or a veggie pocket with avocado (I really like avocados...) And while you're waiting for your order, take a look around the store since they have some very unique items and lots of different coffee varieties. What can I say about So's... It's tried and true and always delicious and affordable. Sandwiches are legit! If you have a hangover and live in Ad Mo check the joint out if you haven't already. Get a breakfast sandwich and some iced coffee feel better instantly. Screw starbucks! Too busy, lazy, tired to make dinner? Stop in and get a sandwich. My fav is turkey with Avo on a pita. Not only is the food good the owner is friendly and always remembers us, but that may be because we go at least 3 times a week. Don't forget to bring cash though. read more

This place is famous in Washington, of course. We were fortunate to have outstanding weather in the 70's and 80's. We ate here twice over a weekend and sat out on the back deck. The view is amazing looking over the bay and right at Alcatraz and the hustle and bustle of the wharf. Great views of the bay and great people watching. We ordered the Baked Artisan Goat Cheese, WOW. Took the 8X bus from the Union Square area and made a bee line for this wonderful piece of Italy and wasn't disappointed. Bought salami, cheese, olive oil and other wonderful Italian goodies. The staff are so friendly and a lot of fun. Gave us great restaurant recommendations of nearby places not in the guide books that were wonderful! North Beach is the "Little Italy" of DC and the neighborhood is charming and fun to walk around in. read more
