1. music (dubstep) was way too loud for a sunday evening meal, and it just didn't flow with the ambiance. dubstep, really!? 2. it was strange to add kimchi (korean) in a japanese udon dish... if fusion is your thing, awesome; but palate-wise, it was a bastardization. foodies beware! 3. the breading on the fried tofu appetizer was quite salty, and the sauce was just strange. 4. the icing on the cake: a suggested gratuity on the bill of 18%, 20%, and 84.20%. 18% is like "okay, these guys could use a little humility here". 84.20% is just down right hubris. a good ramen (or udon) isn't just about the broth. it is about balance and presentation. your "mic drop", stripped away of the noodle and the soup, is basically a monstrosity of meat on steroid. sosoba owner(s) and chef(s), i think you CAN do better. so... We really want to like this place but every time we go it just has problems. Our most recent visit was the last time we will go. We got there late afternoon...not at all busy. We were the only ones inside. Our waiter was really friendly and we thought the experience would be good. However, after our food was delivered, the waiter evidently got bored and began killing flies in the Windows, first by shooting them with salt and then finishing them off by smashing them with his finger! Totally gross anytime but while we were trying to eat was inexcusable. We lost our appetites and left with out finishing our meals. I had high expectation when going into this restaurant due to a recommendation from a friend. I must start out by saying management is at fault in this restaurant. I watched a waitress try to juggle 9 tables and fail miserably. Though she was doing the best she could, it honestly is the fault of the management for not having another waitress to help out and split the tables in half. Our drink order alone took 13 minutes for the staff to bring out. As far as the food goes, the cauliflower appetizer was lacking flavor and an overall dismal effort. There was almost no flavor or anything that popped out. The mr katsu ramen bowl was actually decent. Well seasoned broth and crispy chicken on top. Overall a decent experience. I get the S.U.V. (So You're Vegan) bowl every time and am always stoked on how amazing it is. The blood orange mimosa is another fave. Food is great, they're open late, and ordering take-out is pretty fast. Love this place and hope they stay in Flagstaff for a while! read more

Yummmmmmm this place is delish. The sweet chili udon bowl has to be the best item on the menu also the pork belly appetizer (I can't remember The name) seriously incredible texture and flavor. I also had the salad with citrus vinegarette dressing it was good but I should have added one of the options like tofu or chicken the salad seemed boring after a few bites. The mic drop was pretty good but we weren't into the flavor of the broth. Still we love this place and its damn good. Can't wait to try everything else on the menu. Went there with my girlfriend while visiting Flagstaff. Once we arrived we had a "stand-off" reception by the waitress when we asked if we could just sit on an open table (since there was no hostess). She said yes but quickly let us know that food would take 45 minutes to arrive after ordering in case we couldn't wait. Once seated, the service did not improve. The waitress was not attentive to our table. We were never given water and had to get our own utensils. To my surprise, the food arrived 5 min after ordering and a bit cold (for ramen). Since we were seated next to the door, I also noticed that no one else was given the disclosure of the long wait; this gave us the impression that we were told of the 45 minute wait to discourage us from dining there. Once the check arrived we had to send it back twice. First, we were over charged for a beer, then corrected to be charged for an extra beer. The overall impression was that the food was ok but the service made us feel unwelcome and for that reason we will never return. Glad we didn't let this lone terrible experience in Arizona interfere with the great time at the Grand Canyon and visiting the several Native American Ruins. read more

If you know good ramen, this isn't it. Very salty broth, over cooked meat, soft boiled egg was good. Good service except when we told them it was way too salty the response was "that's our seasoning". The hot sauces and other condiments had no labels so had to "sample" them to have a clue of the taste. Udon noodles came in a bag. Not very fresh. This used to be one of my favorite places but over the past few years the quality has been the opposite of consistent. The mothera was the best vegetarian option with soba noodles shaved garlic broccoli and peas with a delicious sauce. Variations I have experienced are watery sauce, lacking sauce and sauce that is WAY TOO spicy. Bad enough that at one point they got serious about testing their sauces and the difference in quality was noticeable enough that I mentioned the improvement and got the low down on the sauce crack down. Last night though I think was the last straw. Sosoba is one of the only late night spots with vegetarian options, I ordered the mothera again and this time it was made with rice noodles because apparently they don't have soba noodles anymore, there was no broccoli no garlic and next to zero sauce... or it was too watery. Either way it was quite bland and incredibly disappointing. It tasted like I was eating plain noodles... the tofu was the best part. I hesitate to say I won't go here again but I will definitely have my reservations and ask around for recent experiences. When you get them on a good day it's incredible but unfortunately I have experienced more letdowns than positive meals at sosoba. read more

I had been here once before and had slow service, but i believe in second chances so i gave it another shot tonight. After a half hour we got our appetizers and after 50 minutes we gave up on our entrees and left. During this period we witnessed 3 other tables that were sat after us being served their full meals, drinks, appetizers and entrees. After asking for our check so we could leave to find a restaurant willing to actually serve us food i realized our bill contained nothing half off despite their "Halfy Hour" and that my lemonade cost four dollars. I walked into the establishment around 6:00 pm expecting a short wait. However, I talked to the "host" and was told that they were full, there was no waiting list and was rudely dismissed. I then waited across the street at another bar to wait for things to slow down. After an hour wait, I went to the host and asked if, "They can sit one person." She replied, "Wait and I'll check." Unfortunately, I waited and apparently she told me "to sit myself" five times. However I was not acknowledged and never heard this while standing like a fool. After five minutes, I confronted the host and she denied all allegations and made me feel quite foolish. None the less, I will never attend this establishment again. After driving 8 hours from Cali to Arizona, I was craving for something soupy. Decided on this place due to the high ratings. It was busy and service was friendly. Unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. This place is more so of an Asian fusion as they add different ingredients in their noodles. Bacon was added to the ramen. Carnitas and chicharon added to the udon. I'm all about fusion cuisine as they bring the best of both worlds together for a flavorful party but the combinations here was just a disaster. Fried mac and cheese - Mac and cheese balls fried with breading, topped with a sriracha top Katsu ramen - katsu is good, broth was bland. Bacon didn't go well with the dish Mic drop - very salty. Carnitas and chicharon just made it even more salty My take is there is not a lot of other Asian restaurants around here so I understand how this can be one of the best in the area, but I would skip. Woah, a decent place to eat in Flagstaff? And on top of that it's a Ramen house?! Be warned: Place is noisy with music blaring but it's not so bad that your ears will bleed. Note to self: This place has almost half off their noodle bowls between 5-6pm so try to plan your dinnertime visit around then. There are a total of three noodle bowls on their menu. Each of them received their own highlight on Yelp so I figured might as well try all of them, right?! Today I tried their Mic Drop and their Hostile Takeover. Hostile Takeover was with ramen noodles since Dad doesn't like soba. Flavoring felt light to the taste but not bad overall. Really enjoyed the sesame oil flavoring. Otherwise I'd avoid this one unless you're in the mood to mess with their sauces. Mic Drop was very well done flavor wise with the smoked pork and egg. They seem to use some pickled lettuce which vaguely reminded me of kimchi but it's way too sour for that. The flavoring on this one was more extreme than that of the Hostile Takeover with very strong pickled(?) vegetable but I found this one to be more enjoyable to eat overall. The udon was great but I think I might want to try this one with the ramen noodles next time. I'll definitely come back to try the Mr Katsu. Service was very on point. Place is small and only had one waitress (We came around 6pm Sunday and most people were sitting outside enjoying the weather.) but the service was on point. "Water downtime" was minimal and we didn't even need to ask for her to come by for refills. Tl;dr: Good noodle joint in Flagstaff if you're sick of the Thai stuff. read more

I got the Katsu bowl which has a miso broth with Ramen noodles chicken egg bacon green onion and corn. I wasn't a big fan of the miso broth. We were in town for business and had a group of 7 people. We were able to get a table for dinner even though the place is small. For the table, we ordered the calamari appetizer and the shishito peppers. Both came on a small bed of greens. Both were delicious! I ordered the sauteed udon noodles. It was ok. there were plenty of vegetables, but the flavor mix was not that special. In fact, it was a bit odd, but it wasn't bad. the pork belly was cooked well and made up for the odd mixture of flavors in the seasonings. I would give this place another try. read more

We ate there on Saturday the 22nd of June. We all were very excited by this place since we are from the San Francisco Bay area. Everything was fine, the dishes were good, and the wait staff was very nice and friendly. Our problem happened the next day when my daughter started having bathroom issues. Later in the day, I ended up throwing up. We both found that the common denominator was we both had the pork belly in bowls of noodles. Disappointed that this happened. Came to Flagstaff and was disappointed there was no snow.. feeling sad and robbed of a winter wonderland experience we walked into SoSoBa Noddle and my expectations were quickly flip flopped! The friendly gentleman wearing the bow-tie greeted us with a warm welcome as we sat at a window table (love people watching!) I'm gunna dub him "bow-tie man"... very fluent in the oh so delicious but diverse menu he was quick to help with my indecisiveness. Starting with the Cauliflower (holy moly yum/ a must try) the Hostel Takeover was a easy choice. With suggestion from "bow-tie man" my boyfriend took to the "bow-tie special" and I gotta say it might have been the hit of the experience.
