This is the best spot in SD for KBBQ. I've been here 3 times already! They use a traditional cast iron grill and have premium meats! Service is also excellent because they grill the meats for you! On my last visit, we chose the brisket and marinated short ribs. For marinated meats, they also torch it to give it that extra smoky flavor. I like that the have other non meat options like chive pancakes and honey butter garlic shrimp. If opting for à la carte, the only suggestion I have for the restaurant is to have less portions of meat so that you can try more meats ( when dining for 2). We were full with just the two meats, appetizers, and ban chan. Also, the veggie platter was just lettuce, garlic, radish, and jalapenos. Otherwise, all of my visits have been excellent.

Food was so good I forgot to take a pic when it came out. Our boy Gavin cooked our meat gooood. The short rib was so good I was fighting my husband for it. Everyone gives good service. When Gavin was helping another table, another lady stepped in and helped make sure our meat wasn't overcooked. the vibe is fun without being obnoxious. Definitely a higher end kbbq place.

Great spot for high quality korean bbq. The service was great, they help do all the cooking and even grill up some kimchi to pair with the meal. The favorites were the wagyu tongue, tartare, and the marinated short rib. The kimchi fried rice is a nice meal ender as well. Would come back to try more of the other options!

This is not your typical all you can eat Korean barbecue. They offer higher and cut of meat, including Wagyu beef. Highly recommend a reservation, and for parking we didn't have any trouble, but it is shared with another very popular Ramen place right next-door. This is a place where your server will help you cook the meat, which was nice, we've ordered separately outside of the sampler plate they do offer. We just ordered some Wagyu and briskets. A portion of these plates are very small so I would recommend ordering more than what you would order at all you can eat buffet. Yes price is higher due to higher quality of meat. Also, the ventilation of this place was a little better than the other Korean barbecue place because we didn't really smell that badly afterwards. Overall, this place was great for service, ambience and for food. Highly recommend. However, for other dishes they offered were very much meh. Do not order anything else but meat here.

SOT is a great KBBQ option when you're looking for quality over just stuffing as much brisket as you can. The Wagyu Sampler was great for trying a bunch of different cuts of meat; I loved all the different textures! The banchan was good and I especially liked that they had my 2 favorites besides kimchi: cucumbers and potato salad. Our server Jason was super attentive and cooked our meats to our liking as well! I liked how wide the space was and there was a good amount of space between tables so it wasn't really smoky in there when we ate.

Absolutely phenomenal! You can really taste the quality of all the ingredients from vegetables to the meat. The service was amazing and attentive, they cooked for you in their special grills. We got the SOT sampler which was the perfect amount of food for three hungry people. The presentation and taste of the food was superb. Their cold noodle was also delicious! Highly recommend and will be back in the future.

Came to celebrate a birthday so we weren't skimping out. Wagyu was good quality. I felt it was worth it and will provide a better elevated experience than AYCE KBBQ if that's what you're hoping to get going here. I'd skip on the SOT sampler and spend the extra $$ on Wagyu Sampler. There was 9 of us. We got 2 of each sampler plate and one spicy noodle. More than enough food. We were stuffed. Next time I'd probably order the Wagyu sample plate for 3-4 people. Banchans are unlimited and the grilled kimchi is tasty. Really enjoyed their jalapeño pickled radish. The cooks can be a bit busy so even though they do cook your meat watch out for it as they let ours over cook a few times.

Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 This Kbbq spot features traditional cast-iron cauldron grilling, with the staff handling all the cooking tableside. Tonight, four servers rotated between tables on our side of the restaurant, grilling meats and keeping everything running smoothly. While I appreciated the full-service grilling experience, I had mixed feelings about this dinning format. Reason being that at times, it felt like there was always someone flipping meat right in the middle of our conversation, which kinda took away from the intimacy of the dinner. To be fair, the staff wasn't hovering at the table the entire time. They would cook a round, step away, and give us a few peaceful minutes before returning. Still, at times I wished we could slow down, enjoy our conversation, and savor the meal at our own pace, as the experience felt a bit more rushed than relaxed overall. That said, our servers Heejeong and Brittany were genuinely pleasant and easy to talk to, and their attentiveness clearly reflected good service. As for the Wagyu Platter we ordered, the cuts were nicely marbled, with the short rib easily my favorite. And while the meat quality was definitely above average, I expected something closer to top-tier A5 wagyu at this price point. Overall, it's a decent option if you're looking for something different from the typical AYCE experience, but the premium pricing is a bit hard to justify based on the meat quality alone. The strong service helped bring this up to a 3.5-star rating..

The dining area is very spacious. And I love that they have photos with autographs of the famous people that came to visit their location. The staff was very friendly. Fast working and accurate. We were a total of 3 and ordered the Prime Sampler Plate for $145. The meat was of really good quality. All the sides come with your platter. Potato salad, kimchi, rice, cucumbers and sauces. I loved that they cook the meats for you. We will definitely be back!

Excellent service (they grill for you, expertly), tender cuts (our favorites were the outside skirt, the garlic marinated beef, and the pork jowl), and tasty banchan (replenished on the house). This meal knocked it out of the park. The cast iron cooking surface is unique; I wish more K-BBQ restaurants in the U.S. would adopt it. It's low-smoke, and the meats cook more evenly/efficiently than they do on a traditional grill. The prime sampler was more than enough meat for two people, but we were gluttons and added a couple of extra à la carte cuts. No regrets! They were all terrific in their own right.

It's a kbbq kinda day but you don't want to cook for yourself so, where do you go? SOT! My family and I were in a mood for kbbq and decided to try out SOT for the first time. We were seated immediately upon arrival. There was a pretty big variety of combos to choose from and we went with the SOT sampler plate. We figured the plate could feed 3 people well but I still wanted to add some cold noodles, kimchi stew, and steamed eggs because those are my goto. (I believe the steamed eggs were already part of the sampler plate?) Service was phenomenal and the staff were great. They not only cooked well but were super attentive and one of them chatted happily with us and explained to us the different things on the table which really elevated our dining experience. The soju cocktail was great and complemented the meal well (flavor recommended by the waitress). The restaurant is a nice size and we saw a number of corporate diners, friend group diners, and family diners which showed that this was a restaurant meant for all types of crowds. Food overall was great, service adding a cherry on top. I highly recommend trying and I will definitely be coming back soon. I think this place is my fav Korean bbq place in SD. It's definitely pricey but it's very clean and service and food are good! We tried prime sampler plate but it wasn't much for our little family. But the food was pretty tasty and meat seems descent quality. Definitely will come back and try other things

I have never been to aHot pot (?)/ a place where they serve food in-front of me. we went 2 hours before closing and although it was packed... we got seated in two minutes. We got the SOT sampler and it was very delicious quality meat, and you got a lot for the price. Our initial server was James and he was very kind, I cannot recall the other servers names but they were also kind. We had Complimentary rice and barley tea. They had ice cream up front for purchased as well. I can't really say anything bad about the place because i enjoyed my visit and i will be back!! read more

Service was amazing the food was amazing. I have never seen a place work together in tandem until I came to this place. My best friend burned her finger and the server noticed something was wrong and came with a first aid bag to relieve the burn. WOW!!! Nothing more comforting than a kbbq on a cold day, it gets busy during dinner hours, recommend coming in early. The quality of the meat was awesome, we had the prime sampler, we enjoyed them all and the sides coming with. They have so many options from Radish kimchi to refreshing side Salad. Service is very fast, we don't even need to do all the grill like other AYCE kbbqs, leaving us focusing on enjoying the food. I would come nack again! read more

So Delicious! à la carte style Kbbq with such high quality meat. Tender and flavorful being cooked on a cast iron in front of you. Staff do majority of the cooking and advise you when it's ready to be eaten for optimal taste! At the end they bring out fried rice and place it in the cast iron to mix with the previous meat fats and whatever left overs to make the most yummy rice. Sot is the best kbbq in San Diego hands down in terms of quality and in terms of value is only rivaled by DJK. High quality meats are cooked on the eponymous round stone slab and you can taste the difference between this and a standard stainless steel grate you get elsewhere. From USDA prime beef, to some fine wagyu cuts, to high quality pork, you're guaranteed enough fantastic meat and sides to fill you up. I recommend either the Sot Sampler or if with a larger group the Pork Sampler and either the Wagyu Sampler or the Prime Sampler. read more

We ordered the Wagyu sampler, steamed egg, the Dong Chee Mee noodles, and the fried rice. The quality of the meat was great and the steamed egg was really good. The noodles was thinner than I expected but still good. The broth seemed to be more of a red kim chee based broth when it is typically clear or white. It was ok and provided to be a nice palette cleanser to all the rich fatty meat. The sides were all fresh and well executed but it was all similar in flavor. The service was good and they were all very nice. The only misstep was not asking if we wanted cheese with our fried rice which we would have ordered if we knew about it. Dan read more

They had certificates of quality and authenticity posted for their Wagyu beef, so you know this b place was not only legitimate in their quality but it surely showed pride in their craft. The staff were very knowledgeable to those who never experienced Korean bbq before and they made it truly enjoyable. The setting was very chic, contemporary, yet casual. This place is a must-visit for Korean BBQ lovers! We came on a Tuesday evening when they opened and were seated right away. What sets this place apart from other kbbq places is the use of Korean cast iron cauldron lids ("sot-ttukeong") as grills for the food, hence the name Sot BBQ. It added a more traditional Korean twist to an otherwise modern kbbq restaurant atmosphere. Be aware that this is NOT AYCE, and there are signs that say this when you enter. That being said, prepare for a top-tier kbbq experience. We went with the Sot Sampler, which is $89 and includes prime short rib, prime ribeye, beef belly, and pork belly. The staff here cook the meat for you, and they were very friendly and attentive to make sure everything was cooked to our desired doneness. The quality of the meat here is excellent--every cut was fresh, tender, and flavorful with nice marbling in the fattier cuts. They provide matcha salt, wine salt, and a spicy sauce for dipping your meat. The flavors of each salt are very subtle, and I felt they were easily overpowered by the meat, though this was not necessarily a bad thing (even if it were plain salt I would've been perfectly fine). The sampler also included a serving of salad, a bowl of steamed egg, and mushrooms. For 2 people, the Sot Sampler was more than enough meat, and we took home some leftovers. We ordered cold noodles on the side as well (see below), but without the noodles, I think it would've been the perfect amount of food. I also ordered the cold dongchimi noodles on the side, which were actually some of the best I've had in SD. The noodles were cooked perfectly with just enough bite, and the broth was light, refreshing, and chilled with ice to just the right temperature. It paired well with the grilled meats (as it should, IYKYK). The banchan also enhanced the experience. There's a decent variety; most notable was the kimchi and bean sprouts they laid on the grill, and once cooked, paired nicely when eaten together with the meat. Sot BBQ is definitely on the pricier end, but overall, if you're looking for high-quality Korean BBQ with excellent service, I think the price is justified. I'm looking forward to trying the Prime Sampler or even the Wagyu Sampler in the future. read more

Hot new KBBQ spot. The concept is cool using the cast iron cauldron to cook the meat. The meats are premium and a la carte. Staff cooks the meats for you to your liking. It is on the pricier end but kind of ends up being the same of what you will normally spend at any all you can eat kbbq spot. read more

Been here a couple times, no need to mention how good their food quality is. Only one of great quality of authentic Korean BBQ place in SD. So proud we have this place in our town. Just wanted to write a review about our server Azuu ( not sure if it's correct name but I saw this name on her name tag) She made our whole time super easy, chill and very comfortable, she really knows what she's doing. She was gently asking if she needed to ask something, very careful with sweet. Our parents visited SD for Mom's bday& mother's Day, we took them here very proudly for dinner right after we picked them up from the airport since where they live doesn't have a good Korean restaurant. Our server Azuu, did such a wonderful job, she made our experience with SOT even greater. I know I 'd be busy for a couple days, I didn't want to forget to write this review, so I'm writing this now. Entertaining and delicious Korean bbq with awesome attentive service. Cooking on a giant cast iron pen cover was practical and fun. All the meat drippings drip down to kimchi and vegetables to enhance the flavor. Both pork belly and wagyu briskets were in high quality. Also the portions were pretty generous. Will return for sure with family and friends. read more

What can I say? We travel a lot and we are always looking for a good Korean spot.. Korean barbecue is really repetitive and hard to find. But this place I will definitely be back. We can live Orange County to San Diego county, and all I can say is I love it. Probably one of the best kimchi pancakes I've ever had. ... and the ribeye Gogi is amazing. I'll give it six stars.
