It has been over 11 years since my last review, and Sotto Spora still hits the spot. Never misses. They always run a really nice special around tax season in which you can get $15 select pastas and $7 select wines and cocktails. So I decided to stop in for a nice dinner and wine. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was pretty much packed, but I was able to get a table since it was just me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dinner was pretty simple for me, I love their spaghetti bolognaise and my fave Montepulciano wine. For an appetizer I love the beef carpaccio( that was not apart of the special). And it is also their 30th anniversary so they have some really nice specials going on. If your in the Mount Vernon section, make sure you stop in you will not be dissapointed SYOY

There is nothing quite like feeling special. Mark took me to one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore tonight to celebrate my birthday, which is Monday. Imagine my surprise when we arrived at the door, I was immediately greeted by Riccardo, the Chef-Owner, who called me by name, wished me a happy birthday, introduced himself to Mark and escorted us to our table. Riccardo then promptly delivered two glasses of Prosecco and stood to chat with us for a while. It made me feel so very special and welcomed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]You do not come to Sotto Sopra Restaurant for dinner; you come for an experience. And from the second we arrived, every moment was filled with pleasure to our senses.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Food, drink, music, atmosphere, kindness, attentiveness, warmth and ambiance -- all perfection.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I so admire Riccardo for his life philosophy and business acumen. He puts his entire heart and soul into his restaurant and it shows. He knows that success lies in how you treat people and that same spirit was embodied by all of the staff. They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year; that doesn't happen by accident or luck. This was a birthday dinner I'll not soon forget. Thank you, Mark. Thank you, Riccardo.

We raved about the great time we had at Sotto Sopra and their Summer Camp offering of Tuesday with Morrie to our friends, so they wanted to go with us to experience what we had enjoyed. We made a reservation for the 4 of us for Tuesday. They had our table ready and waiting for us when we arrived. Lindsey, our server, was terrific. She was friendly and so welcoming. She met and exceeded our every need. We started with their enormous Charcuterie Board, which was loaded with all kinds of Italian goodies. The Tuesday with Morrie offering is a bowl of pasta with a glass of wine for $30.00. Our friends had the Carbonara Alla Sotto Sopra (a delectable dish of spaghetti, egg, smoked applewood bacon, cream and parmesan), and Ravioli Dell'Amore (a delicate dish of spinach & ricotta ravioli with fresh tomato sauce and parmesan). My husband had the Fettuccine Bolognese (a hearty dish of homemade fettuccine with a meaty homemade Bolognese sauce topped with parmesan. I thoroughly enjoyed the Gnocchi Alla Caprese. The homemade ricotta gnocchi were delicate pillows topped with fresh tomato sauce and burrata. It was beyond delicious. Thank you for another terrific meal and evening!

Sotto Sopra has been my favorite Baltimore restaurant for a few years now, and anytime I come back - they prove why. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First off, the ambience is fantastic. The waiters are friendly, the smell of the restaurant is phenomenal, and it's a lovely, intimate space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food - believe it or not - is really the star of the show. They have plenty of GF options, and right now they are running their 30th anniversary special. $65 pre-fixe menu with a few items offered that have a slight upcharge. Either way, it's a fantastic deal. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary (our first date was here two years ago) & both did the pre-fixe. I got the seasonal octopus salad, the duck leg, & the seasonal banana brûlée. All of it was incredible. Obviously, if you want pasta - they have plenty of great options to choose from & everything is just so fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For the price (even without the 30th anniversary pre-fixe!), ambience, and QUALITY - you seriously can't beat Sotto Sopra[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. My boyfriend and I love to try different "finer dining" around the city - and all roads lead us back to here.

Sotto Sopra has been on my list to try for a while now and I'm SO happy I finally did. I decided to dine here for restaurant week and am already so excited to go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was great and the restaurant is quaint, dark, yet lively and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Sotto Sopra flatbread with prosciutto and truffle oil was the perfect way to start my meal. Crispy yet chewy, with the best salty yet sweet taste. My short rib ravioli was amazing, especially with the mushrooms. The gnocchi bolognese was full of flavor and melted in your mouth. My glass of Cabernet was full and the perfect accompaniment to my pasta. For dessert, the strawberry cheesecake was the real winner but we were scraping the pistachio crème brûlée clean, as well. It was the perfect meal. Unfortunately, the complimentary valet was not available on this night, however, there was a parking garage just around the corner.

We had a nice experience overall. The complimentary valet parking was a great touch and made arrival easy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, the restaurant has a very romantic, dimly lit atmosphere, though the tables are quite close together and it does get pretty loud as the night goes on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The focaccia was fantastic and a definite highlight. The gnocchi bolognese was just okay--the bolognese felt a bit heavy when paired with the gnocchi and didn't quite shine. Dessert, however, was excellent. The pistachio tiramisu was light, well-balanced, and a great way to end the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A solid spot with a lovely ambiance and some standout elements, especially the bread and dessert.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Throughly enjoyed our visit to Soto Sopra and would recommend if you're in the area. There is free valet parking as well as street parking in the area, but it can be a bit tough so definitely take advantage of the free valet. To share (4 of us) we got a bottle of wine, calamari, and antipasto misto. Both apps were good but the calamari was my preference. For my main I got the Pappardelle Fra Diavolo which had a generous amount of shrimp. Great flavor and fresh pasta. For dessert we shared the pistachio tiramisu which was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server was knowledgeable and shared menu recommendations based on our preferences. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was reminiscent of an old school Italian spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 5/5 dinner experience! Recommend making a reservation as they get busy.

I decided to come here a few times with two of my girlfriends because they were running the restaurant week specials. This made it easy to come. Try out Sotto because we've never been to it before. So let's start with the atmosphere and the restaurant floor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very cozy, very inviting and the candles that they have that are real candles. Create this air of just ease and relaxation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There isn't a set dress code, but it's very clear when you go in that you should be at least business casual and that goes with the vibe of the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried out various different dishes that were on restaurant week, including the calamari, the gnocchi and pretty much everything we could because three courses for $45 is an amazing deal. The rosé is probably my favorite wine that they have there and the cocktails are very good including the espresso martinis. My first date got the gnocchi and they don't usually like gnocchi but it was amazing and very tasty. Very light different than sometimes regular gnocchi that's very heavy. The calamari was delicious and I enjoyed the lemon slices that they had in there that they also fried. We need to go back so that we can try out the different desserts and maybe just go in and try out some of the different options that they have at Sotto. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tables were clean and if we dropped any forks we got new ones immediately.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was quick and fast but we did not feel rushed in any way shape or form. The focaccia that they provide with the little bread basket when you first sit is amazing and goes very well with wine or drinks. I also enjoy that they have options for you to choose out their event experiences with operas, so we plan to check that out one time. For those that don't drink, they also have mocktails. Their mocktails are quite tasty, very refreshing, nothing too heavy. You can get different options of wine, champagne, dessert, drinks while you're there. The tiramisu was great and I did enjoy the cheesecake.

The inside is beautiful. High ceilings with large paintings and mirrors. The service provided by everyone here was wonderful. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio to start. They brought out complimentary focaccia bread with an olive oil and balsamic dip that was quite good. It was Baltimore Restaurant Week recently and Sotto Sopra had extended their 3 course menu which we ordered off of. Between us, we shared the Watermelon Salad and Maryland Style Mussels for appetizers, Pan-Seared Atlantic King Salmon and Short Rib Risotto entrees, and Crème Brûlée and Almond Cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. The watermelon was fresh and the feta cheese and crumbled pistachio paired great with it. I loved the coconut broth from the mussels. The citrus and lobster infused mashed potatoes with the salmon was divine. The short rib with risotto was seasoned well and quite filling. Both the desserts were delicious as well. No complaints on anything. It was all so good! Cannot wait to dine here again.

This was a phenomenal dining experience. The only negative part of the experience was that the dining room was too dark - it was hard to read the menu. Other than that, everything was exquisite. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the decor and vibe were intimate, and the food was so good we could not pick a favorite dish. We ate: Feta & Watermelon Salad - This was elevated with crushed pistachios, honey, and super salty feta. Caprese - Made with perfectly ripe heirloom tomatoes, burrata, and shaved fennel for a little surprise crunch. It is a classic, and was executed perfectly. Lamb Chops - These were truly outstanding. They had a salty, herbed crust and were cooked perfectly to our preferred temperature. The lobster mashed potatoes were also very unexpected. Bolognese - This was a very chunky, hearty, savory sauce, where you could still taste a bit of the red wine. The pappardelle was cooked perfectly. Cappuccino - literally the best one I've ver had. We came here for restaurant week and the dining experience was significantly better than expected. I can't wait to go back.

Place looks great and has great ambience. We loved the watermelon salad and we ordered Non alcoholic drinks which tasted great. We ordered Penne Pasta for our son and Ravioli for ourselves and everything was delicious. Must go place.

We went here for my birthday dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I first walked in I said this place is dark and I'm not sure I like the vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, we were greeted with some of the best service. The food was amazingly delicious, the drinks were tasty and the dessert was chefs kiss! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a don't judge a book by its cover place for me![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

3.5 Food: for apps, we tried the Caesar salad (good), bruschetta (ok), calamari (good), the entrees were unfortunately disappointing across the board - bolognese (hamburger helper vibes), shrimp fra diavola (good flavor but not enough pasta), steak (by far the most expensive item and a very fatty cut). The pistachio tiramisu was delicious. Ambiance: dimly lit and moody vibe, Andrea bocelli playing at a pleasant volume. Service: outstanding - Darrick was lovely, attentive, friendly.

Our shared side of the grilled Zucchini (definitely enough to share) was also a highlight. We've been raving about our fried clam sandwich and lobster roll since. Both were amazing; my wife said it was the best lobster roll she's had (we've never been to maine or anywhere known for lobster). The dessert passion fruit pie was a great way to end, also shared, but the crust was a little too thick and the dollop on top did kind of over power the curd. I absolutely loved it, from the prompt service to the ambience to the local, delicious food, we had such a lovely dinner. I came for oysters and I got them. First we had a dozen raw oysters from the True Chesapeake farm, which were so fresh and flavorful. My favorite hands down was the Chunky Dunker oyster, gigantic and meaty. Then we had broiled oysters, you know, for some variety! They were fantastic. Dinner was fabulous, I had the scallops and my husband had the fish. We ate every single bite, and all but licked the plates clean. To finish, we had dessert cocktails - the Grasshopper tastes like an Andes mint - and we happily headed home with full bellies. I can't wait to come back and try more of the local seafood on offer!

Great meal at great restaurant and I look forward to coming back soon to try some other food here…read more A couple reasons for this not being a five-star review, first of all somewhere along the way our server left and another server took her place and we're not sure why but once the other server took over which luckily was right before dessert things slowed down to a snail's pace. It took forever for us to get our desserts and then the same to get our check. Not really sure why our server disappeared halfway through the meal, but she did. Secondly, I ordered a catfish sandwich which was delicious but I ordered it with no tartar sauce and our server said that that's the way she put it down but the kitchen didn't prepare it that way they prepared it with tartar sauce slathered all over the sandwich which I promptly sent back. Not being a big oyster fan, I did get a couple of raw oysters and actually really enjoyed them and will be back to have more in the future. My mom had the snakehead which was very delicious but also a very small portion for the amount that we paid. The website indicated that for those who are gluten-free, like my mom, the menu had stars on them but the menu that we had did not nor was there a menu with stars indicating what is or could be made gluten free. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. We chose to eat outside because it wasn't too hot and we could sit under cover and enjoy the beautiful June weather. It was nice inside but it didn't look to be a very large area inside and could have been very noisy with the high ceilings. Not sure willl try in the future and report at that time. There are many things on the menu that I want to try so I will definitely be back. If you love oysters come here and they won't disappoint. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. Aside from the two issues that I experienced, they were minor in the scheme of things and I will definitely be back.

Excellent dinner, date, happy hour spot. I loved the atmosphere and ambiance of the Urban Oyster…read more The walls are painted a calming cerulean blue and it just feels like a chill spot. Food was excellent and everything I was expecting. Seafood tasted fresh and well seasoned. We tried a variety of the menu and it kept getting better. Drinks were bold which I love. The Bodega Kitty got the job done. Food we tried: - Moules Frites - Hot Honey Old Bay Wings - Lamb Chops - Volcano Charbroiled Oysters The food was great but my favorite part of the visit were the people. I tried the volcano and teriyaki oysters, and they were so good. The truffle fries also held their own, and I am very particular about my fries, so that says a lot. I also ordered the happy hour tacos (oyster and catfish). They were okay, nothing to run home about. Since the restaurant clearly has some elevated sauces, I would love to see those same sauces incorporated into the tacos to make them stand out more. Otherwise, they feel pretty standard. Also, try the deviled eggs topped with a fried oyster. Very tasty and worth ordering. I would absolutely come back to try dinner, but the happy hour menu definitely gives you great value for your money and excellent service.
