I love Soul Fish Cafe's food more than most southern style restaurants. I'm not that big of a chicken wing fan but their hot wings are so scrumptious! You cannot go wrong with their catfish and even their salads are so tasty. Personally, the cornbread round is too sweet. Ohhh, I could gush about all their food but I think you get the point! It's just too good~ The service is generally very nice and they are quick to check up on you. The ambiance is modern and I can't wait for their liquor license to be in effect. This new location is just as good if not better than the others. They have a good selection of draught beer including Ghost River and High Cotton. They have more seating than the midtown location and the parking is not perfect but one again, better than midtown location. read more

We went by tonight and I was really impressed compared to the location in Germantown. We had the catfish and oyster poboy (daily special) They were both really good! The baked sweet potatoes were amazing...or perhaps I should say the cinnamon butter was AH-MAZING! The carrots were pretty good and huspuppies were excellent! Went to Soul Fish with my family last night. Their was 10 total in our group. Teresa was our server and treated our table as if we were royalty. I tried the smoked pork chop out of curiosity to offer at a fish restaurant. To say it was amazing wouldn't do it fair justice as it was simply that great for a price so reasonable. Mighty Fine Catfish When planning a get-together with friends in Memphis while visiting that fair town, they suggested barbecue. We had already visited some of the best BBQ joints in Memphis and, as much as I love the stuff, I couldn't get excited about another meal of que. Everything I have ordered here is delicious. Wait times are never too long even when they are very busy. I skip fries at other restaurants so that I can stuff myself with them at soul fish. I think I have tried all types of catfish here and they are tender and full of flavor, as is their salmon. Love their zucchini and macaroni and cheese. Salads are big and tasty. Visiting Memphis from the east coast. Trying a different joint each night. Looking for the place that will WOW me. This was good but not WOW. I've got to say this because the name doesn't reflect the establishment. Don't get me wrong everyone there was super nice. Even had an awesome conversation with a customer Jacob who seems to be a regular. But where was the soul? Lol. I ordered the catfish with Mac and cheese plus slaw. Dinner just wasn't that good. Smoked pork chops had very good flavor, but were over cooked and super dry. We also ordered a vegetable plate: corn was delicious-hot from the stove, with peppers and onions mixed in...just great! Sweet potato wasn't cooked thru and like the other items wasn't very hot. Decided to give this location a try. I don't think it was up to par with some of the other locations around town. Having got the same dish as I do at the others, it was a step down to be honest. Same look and fell as the other I've been to. I came in with a larger group so maybe that had something to do with it. Overall, good food at a decent price. This use to be my favorite restaurant when I traveled to Memphis on business however my dine in experience on 1/29/16 has really stuck with me. I typically dine in at the bar area for a late lunch and I always have the same order. Smoked Pork Chops w/ a side of cabbage. On this particular visit I literally got sick at the bar and had to bee line to the restroom because I believe the cabbage and the porkchops were under cooked. I ended up throwing up for over 10 minutes & Oh you best believe when I got back to the bar they presented me with a check. If I wasn't so sick when I left, I would have found a way to contact the local Health Dept. What I found so interesting at the Poplar location when I came out of the restroom there was a Manager lerking around the bar area and HE NEVER asked me if I was ok? The way that the sickness hit me, they all noticed and the fact that no one from the restaurant asked if I was ok was very disheartening and I always tip well and compliment the staff. This showed me that they don't give a damn about their customers or their experience. Either my tastebuds have changed or they are getting a heavy hand on the salt. Ordered the fried shrimp platter. They use a cornmeal breading which can be good, but it was just too salty for me and took away from the flavor of the shrimp. Mac and cheese was okay as were the hush puppies. My fiancé had the catfish and couldn't finish it as he also said it was on the salty side. This is the second time now this has happened so I doubt we will be back. Service was good. read more

Woo! Soul Fish hits the spot! Let me tell you, I ordered the shrimp basket and it was straight glorious. It is also HUGE. Definitely something that could be split between two people if you ask me. Went in with my husband on a whim. This place was amazing. Fast, friendly servers and food was delicious. He got the Cuban PoBoy and my husband isn't one to roam far from food we cook at home but he loved it and I got the fried shrimp. Juicy shrimp, great hush puppies! I have never had a good experience at Soul Fish. Keep this in mind.. I'm not a huge "home cooking" fan. I rarely crave the stuff, and when I do, it has to be my grandmother's fried pork chops and "smashed taters." ( Sling Blade, anyone? Ha! ) Anyway, I've tried several different things here, and I know it is a huge Memphis favorite, but nothing stood out to me except the Strawberry cake. Which of course, you can get the strawberry cake at Frost now. The macaroni and cheese was a disappointment, turnip greens had no flavor, and the catfish was dry. I came to Soul Fish because my 17 year old daughter had been here. We decided to try it as a family after church. The grilled salmon Caesar salad was wonderful, and I am really picky about that entree. It was just perfect!! My son had the Soul Fish Platter and he could not finish it. The catfish platter was equally tasty, and half came home for the next day's lunch. For three lunches, two take out boxes, at $50 for the tab, you can't bet the price and the taste! read more

I went here three times and for some reason the okra I get is too salty and breaded, I had better. My boyfriend and I came in around 9:20 ish after work, we know they closed at 10 but we were trying to at least have a decent/quick dinner. Our waitress was amazing and very kind, but our food on the other hand. Everything was great till my boyfriend flipped his catfish over and saw that it was half way cooked. I have eaten at this establishment at least 4 times and EVERY TIME something has been off. Either the service, the food or both. I went today with my wife and from the moment we walked in the door, the place was not even packed yet no staff was there to seat us, when the waitress did show up she walked us to the table, threw down the menu that hit the floor and walked off. This is not how to start a meal, much less how you would treat anyone anywhere. I ordered the Cuban Poboy sandwich which was great, but the fries were dry and semi cold like a heat lamp had hit them at one point. No staff to ask if the food was okay, one refill and a check. Honestly at this point and this many tries, I will be taking my business somewhere else where its not a bother to have a customer.
