Drinks order taken, daily specials explained and very courteous. Upon return she took our order and the food arrived within 5-7 mins. Everything looked delicious. I had the catfish, shrimp and crawfish plate with French fries. Food was hot and plentiful. My only issue was it was a tab but salty for my liking. And to think if it wasn't for the suggestion of the owner at High Cotton Brewery I would have passed this place up. I'm so glad I didn't. Th only negatives to Soul Fish is the coleslaw didn't have enough of mayo or vinegar in it, the po'boy bread could have been crisper, and the mac n cheese had a strange taste as if the cheese came out a box. There is something magical about the Cajun cabbage here, it's has the right amount of spice and the cabbage is never cooked all the way down to where you can't taste the freshness of the cabbage! I have passed Soul Fish a countless number of times while ignoring endless whines from my foodie friend to eat there, I should have listened to him much sooner, don't tell him I said that. From the outside I always assumed Soul Fish was a nicer place, not nice in fancy dress clothes or even Sunday best but maybe nice jeans and a blazer, this is not the case, not to say you should walk in all nasty like in sweat pants, because frankly you shouldn't ever leave your house in sweat pants. A nice casual atmosphere, sit where you like. I really enjoyed the decor and the mixed seating (bar, booth, tables). I ordered the Shrimp Po' boy with a side of collard greens, It was pretty tasty. The collard greens were good but nothing to brag about, the Po' boy was pretty delicious. Boyfriend ordered the Oyster Po' boy to which he said it was good yet salty (aren't oysters salty anyway?) with a side of Mac & Cheese. The Mac & Cheese was better then a lot of restaurants we have been to lately, it was good but again nothing to brag about. The real star of the night was the Cajun Cabbage, let us take a moment to just bask in the memory. This was one of the most delicious vegetable dishes I have ever had the pleasure of putting into my mouth. ORDER THE CAJUN CABBAGE!!! Beware for parking, it is very limited. I went to Soul Fish Cafe for the first time with a couple of friends on Friday night. Having read the menu before hand online, I already knew what I wanted to order... Smoked Chicken. It's a half chicken cooked over hickory and served with mashed potatoes. I swapped the potatoes for Cajun cabbage. What makes the cabbage Cajun, you ask? Andouille sausage and a bit of heat of course! One of my friends ordered a catfish basket with while beans and the other ordered fish tacos with mac and cheese. I was surprised and really impressed by how quickly our food arrived. Especially considered that the restaurant was pretty busy. There wasn't a whole lot of talking going on at the table once our food was served because everybody was too preoccupied with eating. The cabbage was cooked perfectly and the sausage was a nice compliment. I would have liked a bit more smoky flavor in the chicken but I didn't let that stop me from enjoying the meal. I ordered grilled shrimp with sweet potato fries and hush puppies. My hubby had the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. When I tell you everything was seasoned to perfection please believe me. I had some shrimp at BB King's and was not impressed. Finally got me some good shrimp that was nice and tender without butter falling all over the place. Crispy sweet potato fries with dipping sauce. That chicken was the best I've ever had. As a matter if fact I just finished it off. So freakin good man. Mash potatoes was on it right along with the Mac and cheese. Yummy! Only thing they need to change is the lemonade. I love Soul Fish. Always great food. Mostly great service. I ordered "lightly blackened". I suppose my definition of that and the cook's were different, but it was just a bit too much. My fault, I shouldn't have gotten it blackened at all I suppose. But sill all was good for us all. To get 5 stars, keep in mind that just because we can't drink a fancy beverage and only order water doesn't mean we don't need refills too. My two table mates were constantly asked if they needed a refill (tea/coke) but I was never offered a refill of water. (This is the same everywhere, no one wants to give you more water for some reason.) The service otherwise was awesome and we loved it. Definitely will go back. read more

That didn't quite work out the way I planned - the small cafe was completely packed. It didn't take long to get seated, though. Soul Fish has various kinds of catfish and chicken. There are baskets of catfish, sandwiches, salads, and a long list of side items that changes daily. I ordered the fried catfish tacos with a side of zucchini. The tacos were full of strips of spicy fried catfish, lettuce, and pico de gallo. The tortillas folded up burrito-style, which made them easy to pick up and eat without them falling apart. They came with generous helpings of avocado and salsa. The zucchini was warm, but not overcooked. There was still some crunch to it, and it was seasoned with salt and pepper.
