First time here. Had lots to order from. Ended up with brisket and Mac n cheese sandwich and gumbo. It wasn't any macaroni on my brisket. It only had cheese. But I ate it without complaining. We were brought out a sample of the mini cornbread muffins with a sample of the house made whipped butter. It was very tasty and honestly reminded me of breakfast. But breakfast is good any time of the day so I'll take it. For drinks I went with water and my partner in crime ordered a strawberry lemonade. We went ahead and placed our entree orders as well. I went with the county bumpkin and added one fried chicken wing. He ordered a brisket grilled cheese and added bacon and jalepeños with greens for a side. The food took a little while to come out and I'm guessing it's because of the fried chicken wing. Nevertheless the food all looked great! I tried the chicken wing first and it was straight out the grease hot. It had great flavor and truly satisfied my palate. He raved and raved about his brisket grilled cheese and it looked so perfectly grilled and full of flavor. My dish came with meatloaf sitting on a bed of whipped potatoes and covered in a brown gravy. It looked like it had been sitting under a warming lamp but I was still willing to try it. As expected it was lukewarm at best but had great flavor. My entree selection also came with yams, mac n cheese, and yams. The sides were all very tasty. How lucky am I that I live right down the street from this place!!! Everything I had was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly! I got the Bama wings, with the macaroni! I tried the meatloaf mashed potatoes, egg roll and yams and cornbread! Oh and the fried green tomatoes! I also got a drink that I forgot the name but it was good as well! The waiter was very attentive and had many suggestions for food! The ambiance is an intimate place, dimmed lights. On the fly we chose this place for brunch Sunday. Ambiance is fun, all vibes, but also diner'esk. We ordered wings and waffle, mac n cheese bowl w/brisket (no brisket but we subbed with chicken), peach cobbler pancakes, and the chicken and pancake drip. 4 stars for no brisket #sads but the food was so good! The chicken is perfection. Fried so flavorfull, yet moist, tender, airy like batter. The hot honey glaze is so bomb! Mac n cheese tastes of sharp cheddar but also creamy velveeta. I honestly pulled into the parking lot on the backside with the intent to support a competing restaurant through the drive-through. I saw the food truck for Southern Gourmet Kitchen and I immediately made a decision to support a Black owned business. I'm glad I did! I was greeted immediately when I came in by an incredibly friendly young woman. I told her it was my first time she gave me the QR code to scan and we started to talk about some of her favorite things. Today is Tuesday and this is week number three of their soul taco Tuesday so I took a chance. Excellent choices! I tried both the brisket and the catfish taco. The brisket was by far my favorite. The truth is the catfish is fire all by itself and it does not require the distraction of a tortilla shell, lettuce or tomato. It's probably some of the best catfish in this part of town! The tartar sauce was exceptional. I also tried a side of the macaroni and cheese. And all honesty it was not my favorite, but I can't wait to try some of the other wonderful sides. I have been to this restaurant several times and I have the same issue every time. Having visited on a weekday and a weekend, it is obnoxiously loud! Don't get me wrong, the food is very tasty and worth the price! The collard green egg rolls are very delicious and I want two orders of them every time. I just don't believe that the food outweighs the service and atmosphere. The first time we visited, there were speakers right behind our booth and it was so loud, we had to text each other. Thankfully, the restaurant upgraded their speakers, but we choose to sit outside due to the music blaring and the lack of ability to communicate with the guests adjacent to you. I communicated this issue with management and the response that I received was, "We have guests who visit and tell us to turn the music up." I'm a relatively young man, I don't mind loud environments, but there's a time and a place and this isn't it. It's a restaurant, not a club. We have heard multiple people leave the restaurant and make jokes about not being able to hear. Today was my first visit to Southern Gourmet. A friend and I went for R&B Bingo. It's a very cute vibe and liked the decor. The food was very good! We shared an order of the collard egg rolls. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Bits of turkey and I think, maybe some cream cheese but not sure. It came with a dipping sauce but I didn't need it. We both ordered the catfish which was so delish! I ordered a side of fries and my friend had the mac and cheese which looked amazing. Ok so here's the bad part... the service was terrible - truly the worst I've seen in a long time. When we arrived, there was a number of people (patrons) standing around. No one was at the hostess stand. 10 mins in, a couple in front of us left. Eventually my friend stopped a server to ask about a hostess and inform her that we had a reservation. She told us that she would seat us after tables were cleaned off. 10 mins later, we were seated. Our server was friendly when she came around. She gave recommendations and cracked us up with her jokes and personality. She hardly ever checked on us and we didn't receive a couple of requested items (plates for the appetizer and water). The food also took close to an hour to come out. The menu mentioned to expect a minimum of 30 mins... but still. There were a couple of tables that sat after us who received food. I brought my work team of 5 here to commemorate Black History Month through our support of a local, black-owned business. We didn't have an issue with service being slow like some of the other reviews mention. We had a wonderful experience at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The restaurant was near empty. The waitress sat us quickly and brought us carafes to refill our waters. Background music was great and the perfect audio level for weekday lunch. We got a free appetizer of the corn muffins with honey butter, which are just so delicious. And lunch itself was yummy. My gumbo was a little saltier and spicier than my personal preference but the sweet cornbread muffins balanced it out for me. The gumbo was served with dirty rice, also yummy The team also ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the fried catfish meal. Servings were generous and everyone really loved their dishes. We were out the door maybe by 1:15pm? So total dining time of about an hour. It was totally within timeliness expectations for a corporate lunch hour. Friday, 3/6/26 was not a good experience. When I arrived, the restaurant was not crowded only a few people were there, so I did not expect such a long wait. I ordered a margarita, but it tasted more like juice, and I honestly could not tell what liquor was in it. I then waited about 45 minutes for my food, which ended up being just two baby drumsticks. That was very disappointing, especially considering how quiet the restaurant was at the time. I do want to acknowledge that the waitress was very kind. She seemed to notice that I was unhappy with the service and did her best to make the experience better. I appreciate her effort. I have been here several times but they've made some recent changes that I think people should know before patronizing: -They have now flipped their restaurant to FAST dining. Your drinks are self-serve, except for cocktails. You also get your own napkins and cheap plastic ware -When you enter you order and pay one of the hostesses (receive a number) and seat yourself (we had a reservation but that really didn't seem to matter with the setup) -Your food and cocktails will be brought to the table via kitchen staff -They serve in less than desirable dishes - PLASTIC (and will provide a top if you need to go) and wire basket with paper -Some people didn't have a complete party so they didn't want to put in their orders upfront so they just sat and waited for their complete party and then had to go back and order food--so that it would all come out at one time The fact that people didn't know the restaurant changed the format of how it operates until they got there and it's not on the website is a concern. We started with the collard green egg rolls. Amazing! Melt in your mouth brisket, tangy perfectly seasoned greens, and, surprise, cream cheese went together perfectly. I love the staff however, I've eaten there several times and each time was a different experience. They are not consistent with the taste of their food at all. You go one day this week and it was bomb, go back 1 or 2 wks later and you want your money back especially with their prices. Also they allowed me to order sides that they knew they were out of, charged me and then played as if they didn't know how to refund me. This was probably my last time eating there though because they are not cheap to be getting played like that. read more

Southern Gourmet Kitchen is a restaurant located in Plano, Texas that serves southern food, made from scratch. I was told that they started off as a food truck and due to the popularity of the food, they decided to open a restaurant located on Park Blvd. They have plenty of free parking and we were seated within 5 minutes if arrival on a Sunday morning. When ordering you can use your phone to order food and drinks and pay your final bill at the end via your smart phone. I love this. When I ordered my first drink it arrived at the table in less than 3 minutes flat. I was shocked to say the least. From the moment we walked in the door, the service was SUPERB! They provide complimentary cornbread while you wait, but don't get full off the cornbread because the food is amazing. I arrived with five others and there were no complaints. Another thing to note is that they have a live dj during Sunday brunch. Bottomless mimosas are $16, and they will continue to fill your carafe as much as you like. Here's another review for a great restaurant you should try. I went 11/3-23, for my brother's birthday. His fiancé wanted to try a location that nobody has been to. I read previous reviews so I could be prepared. Casual clothing not classy and easy parking directly in front of restaurant. Guest were told to scan the q code and the menu section and cocktails pop up. A few things to note, you must find a server to ask specific questions or get their attention. It took at least 2 try's in that regard. No frozen drinks due to machine being broken. You select your dishes and pay by credit card or keep an open tab for all menu choices. Automatic 20% gratuity to each order regardless of party size. We had 4 people, three tabs and three gratuities. Generous portion sizes, we ordered the collared green egg rolls, fried green tomatoes, grits, and greens. We were offered 4 mini cornbread's with butter. It was delicious, all the appetizers tasted divine except the grits. But give them a try, they were more like corn flake grits, with cheese. The taste wasn't something I was use to. Ashley the manager was very kind and allowed me to switch for another side. People in my party ordered cocktails, catfish, red beans and rice, wings, and black eyed peas. The decor was nice, music was being played, and the laughter from other tables was infectious and upbeat. Ashley the manager checked on all guest, gave a beautiful smile and spoke highly of her establishment. She was fantastic!! Disappointing Experience - Awful Service I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, the service was terrible. We arrived on a Wednesday at 3:30 PM and waited over 30 minutes without even receiving a cup of water--despite asking twice. Meanwhile, several guests who arrived after us were promptly served. To make matters worse, the cornbread was cold, and even the skillet it was served on wasn't warm. I sat there waiting on a server until the bartender finally came over to tell me that I had to scan and order/pay. Maybe my expectations were too high to begin with, but this food was horrible! I ordered a few things because I was craving soul food and they all came out at different times. I've never in my life had salty Mac and Cheese! The chicken was also salty and slightly undercooked. The sweet potatoes were straight from the can, and the greens inside of the egg roll taste like it was smoked with black pepper only. The egg roll crust was good though. I thought this was a sit down restaurant with servers. It is a work-urant. The good: staff is friendly and the place looks decent. The food was good but a little too sweet for my taste. Areas of improvement: I asked the person who brought out my food if I could get extra napkins and she pointed out where I could get them. If the business model is not to have servers at least put the basic condiments and napkins on the table. As we ordered we were told "we are Out of this. And Out of that". On a Sunday. Out of certain foods and desserts. Reservation at 2 pm. Still no food at 3:08 pm. Only mini cornbread muffins. Men moving a table from the back ran the table into my cousin's back and failed to stop to ensure she was ok. Manager did make them come apologize. But proper protocol is to sit the table down and check on ur customer. What if she had back issues? And only one of the young men came over to apologize. The other never came to apologize.
