We recently moved into the area and have already been to this location 3 times. It's really delicious and the employees are super nice. To top it off, the free ice cream they offer is the best! I just had dinner at Soulman's about an hour ago. For the first time in my history of eating there, the food was not good. Firstly - The food was served on a metal pan, with only a sheet of wax paper between the metal and food. Predictably, the food was already getting cold by the time we sat down to eat it! Why has Soulman's stopped using plates? Did no one consider what this would do to the food? I'd be more that happy to discuss this with a Soulman's senior manager. Secondly - The meats were dry and a bit over-cooked. My wife had sliced beef and ribs, while I had sliced beef and sausage, All seemed to have spent a large portion of their lives under a heat lamp. Again don't misunderstand , I am a long time Soulman's fan. This is why this visit has me so upset. Honestly this place is just sad. Over priced for dry, bland bbq. I'm from Alabama and we make better brisket than this place. It's like they pull it out of the smoker and let it sit under the heat lamp for hours. The ribs were pitiful. No meat on the bone. Mac and cheese is definitely packaged. Overall if I could give no stars I would. Expect to pay a ridiculous $21 for a 2 plate meal with two sides and a drink. read more

Ice cream cone at the end of the meal was a nice, I had the 6 inch sandwich with two sides mac n cheese and the best was the creamed corn. I told the guy behind the register that there was no ice he asked if I had to pushed the lever like I was a dumbass-- he went to fill a bucket instead of asking if he could fill my glass. read more

Stay away from this location. Ownership lets its customers know right up front how little regard they have for this store as the parking lot has been a wreck for more than 2yrs (possibly since it opened). Overall, the 2x I've visited this location, I would consider it dirty by restaurant standards, the "complimentary" fixings bar has not been cold or restocked. But, most of all, hope you are not unlucky enough to visit while Courtney is operating the pass. She is rude, obviously highly stressed, not customer oriented, and argumentative. There are Soulman's out there without a Courtney and which value every customer. This isn't one. Drive a couple of minutes in any direction, you'll find good BBQ and better service. read more

Love the fish on Fridays, but get there early or the fish is kinda warmed over, but still good. LOVE the sides they offer! Atmosphere is really nice and relaxing! We stayed at a nearby hotel so decided to walk here. Coming in the door, the smell caught our attention and we were expecting great things. The young kid behind the counter was a smart mouth and ruined the experience of the visit. He was rude and laughed at us because we had never visited before and did not know the process. We cancelled one of our meals because he was so rude. The one meal we did get was less than par. The ham was dry and the Mac and cheese had no taste. Will not be returning. read more

Visited June 6,2020. Owner was having a meal with 3 other people. A lady comes in with a dog. The dog was in a sling for a baby. Not one person said anything. I asked the owner if it was his business practice to allow animals. All he said was "I hope you're not talking about me". I've ate at a few different Soulman Restaurants but this is by far the best! My family and I eat here every weekend! You have to try their fish fry on Friday's it's amazing! If you want average bbq then this is the place to come. The service was not very good nor were they friendly, the meat was cold and not very flavorful, the fried food was overcooked, and it was just a plain experience. The other reviews must have been written by locals because this place really wasn't that great. I don't recommend it if your looking for real bbq. read more

My wife and I ate here just yesterday. 09/11/15. We were there about 5:30. I had the 3 meat plate and my wfie had the 4 pc. Catfish. All I can say is this :the meats I selected were the sliced brisket, ribs, pulled pork. All the meat I was served clearly had been at the cutting board station, under the heat lamp WAY WAY to long. I received 2 completly dried out ribs. So dry and small I didnt bother with them. The piece of pork was unaceptablely dry and old. All the meats were dried out and room temp cold just from the short time from the line to our table. My wifes catfish was under cooked pinkish in color. This is failure of managment to keep fresh, cooked, hot meats at the meat cutting station. Surely the manager wants to serve up anything still left at that station before more meat is brought out no matter how old and dried out it is. Well this was my first experiencd with any Soulman and our last. A complete waist of time and money. Just don't eat here. On positive note, the staff were all smiles, friendly and just couldn't be more happy to take your money and serve up the coldest, most dried out, wantabe barbeque in the country. read more

The employees need to read the signs they have posted about not being stingy with the meat. We spent 39.00 and did not even get enough for two people. We will go back to Royce City for sure. The Chef cut our meats just as we asked: mine extra lean and his extra fatty. I always snub desserts from buffets as I assume their from a distributor and delivered frozen. Not so here. Probably the worst BBQ around. If you want bland, you might like it. You'll never see a smoke ring. There will never be a seasoned crust around it. Go find a real BBQ place. Last time I went, ordered 2 lbs brisket & 1 rack of ribs. Got home no ribs, but had been charged for them. Of course they were already closed. We had to warm the beans and add spices to make them edible. Want some real BBQ in the area, try 4Ts in Forney. Probably the best around close. read more
