A 15 minute wait in the drive thru is insane. I ended up having to go in (9+ months pregnant or this normally wouldn't be a huge issue). I informed the guy that I had been waiting in the drive through for 15 minutes, he seemed shocked. She came around with my food at that time, which I took and walked away. The ribs are always a tad over cooked.. Fries are soggy. The okra was good and the BBQ sauce is good. They are always friendly.

The food at Soulman's was good. The staff was very nice. I told them I had never been there before so they were more than happy to tell me how it worked. I'm from San Antonio so the setup was a lil confusing to me. They serve you the meats than you self serve the sides. A lil bizarre but nice atmosphere. read more

Certainly not the worst I've had OR the best.....but for Interstate traveling it was really excellent. The employees were very nice and welcoming and the HOT LINKS were extra hot and good. Ribs and brisket were very tender. Sauce a bit too sweet for me. If you're particular about BBQ you may want to wait. But if you have miles more to go.....It's a good stop!!!! read more

This place does a great job with brisket! I added an extra slice of Texas toast and made a great sandwich. The bbq sauce is also great but not even needed. The sides are good too. What's not to like big portions of good food at good prices! Try the sweet tea,I normally go with unsweetened tea and add my own sweetener but they do a great job on the tea! Soulman's is my favorite barbecue place in (and east of) the Metroplex! Always such good, well-seasoned, perfectly cooked meats and sides! I always try to find a time to stop at one. This location is really great! Such friendly staff and easy to get to, especially if you want to avoid the crowd at Buc-ee's. Love getting that free ice cream too! The real challenge is trying to eat slow enough to savor the flavors and not get a stomach ache afterward. read more

Stopped here on my way to Dallas. Location is convenient - easy to get in and out. Staff was friendly, and it was clean. I had the two meat plate with the two sides. I live in south MS - so we're accustomed to pretty good bbq - but we don't have the reputation of TX bbq. I had the ribs and the brisket, with a side of mac & cheese and the homestyle fries. First, the sides. They were both very good. Not the best I've had, but really good. The brisket had a very smoky flavor, but it was nothing outstanding. Most brisket to me is basically the same. I haven't really had any that stands out - so that being said, brisket may not be my dish. It had flavor, but mainly a smoky flavor. I didn't finish my portion. The ribs were much the same. Had a good smoky flavor, and were tender and easy to eat. But the flavor was unique, or outstanding. Just smoky. If you are a fan of seasoning, rubs etc, then these are not the ribs. However, the sauce is excellent, and gave good flavor to everything. So all in all - it's a good place - it just doesn't separate itself from others I've had. read more

Stopped and got the "Truckers Special", a slab of ribs and two sides for $19.99. The slab of ribs looked kind of small, It was a St.Louis trim, probably started off at 3 1/2 lb before being trimmed. I'm used to smoking my own ribs from the grocery store that weigh about 5 lbs +-. Anyway when I got em home and started eating them I figured sized don't matter when the ribs are this good. About as close to perfect as you can get I'd say. Very tender, lots of flavor, pink all the way through from the smoke. The meat to bone ratio was great. Lots of meat on little bone, not the other way around. They were fresh too, not held over from the day before and heated up in a warmer all day. I'm an old fart and have been eating smoked ribs most of my life, they're my favorite food. These are the best I've had in a long, long time. I might have had better, but off the top of my balding grey head, I can't remember when. read more

This is becoming a regular stop for us when passing through the area and now easy to find with new Buc-ees nearby. Love the many sides to choose from. Meat and sauce are good with comparable prices to other BBQ places. Clean bathrooms are a plus too. Would recommend to anyone wanting true Texas BBQ experience. read more

Absolutely awesome. Never ever had a problem with the food or service. They make the fries when you order them; they're not sitting out all day. Their sides are awesome. I crave their spicy corn and mashed potatoes. Their fries are good, au gratin potatoes are good, baked potatoes are good, okra, and potato salad are good. I must say I am in disbelief still; I have been eating at Soulman's since the early 80's. Never, not once, have I had an experience as I had today in Terrell. After spending about $30, at the drive thru window I asked for a glass of water, it was very humid today. The woman comes to the window and says, "We charge for the cup and it will be $1.99. I declined the water! While I do "get it" if a customer was to come in and order just water, that would be one thing, however, I was a paying customer and this to me is just wrong. I did not say anything to the woman as this was a first trip to Soulman's for my friend who I was treating to the pulled pork, to show off your establishment. When I returned home, I opened my "double-barrel" Chopped meat potato only to find that the potato was half the size of the normal potato's I have always received and to add insult to injury (meat was on the side) it did not even come to the top of the side portions at the top! Next, I open the cheese and it has about 1/4 of a small serving size! Disappointed is not even close to how I feel. That's it for me and the Terrell location, this has NEVER happened in Garland, Rockwall, Lancaster Road, Broadway, Gross Road or any of the other's I commonly frequent. I have always sung their praises, but Terrell has huge thumbs down from me... Was an embarrassment, from the rudeness to the window person on you should really take a strong look at how they are doing things there...... read more

I've been going here for 2 years. The guy that used to work there knew me and knew my order. Then the new guy was pleasant but didn't recognize me. Now the new girl is straight up rude and disinterested. They were all clueless, out of multiple sides, and clearly didn't care. I'd just head somewhere else. As I told them as they rolled their eyes, I'll never be back.I'm sure the owner will figure it out in a couple of months when his sales are down 25%. read more

**UPDATE** A representative from the corporate office of Soulman's BBQ was nice enough to contact me regarding my visit to the Terrell location this past weekend. He explained to me that they have been grinding their chopped beef sandwich meat since 1974. He was very nice but even after his explanation I still cannot agree that bbq meat should be treated in this manner. He stated that I could ask for it to be chopped with the knife and I replied that being new to the establishment I didn't realize I needed to ask for my chopped beef sandwich to be chopped with a knife. I would highly recommend corporate figure out how to name the chopped beef sandwich so that when it is ordered the customer will know the meat is going to be ground unless otherwise requested. Maybe call it the grinder beef sandwich. At least then the customer will know to ask about the sandwich due to the unique name. Thank you again corporate for contacting me regarding your business. I appreciate it. I'm guessing from the other reviews that maybe we just chose the wrong day to go by and eat. We got there around 12:30pm right after the lunch rush hour and I ordered the chopped bbq beef sandwich plate and boy was my choice the worst one to make. The man on the chopping block took my beef for my sandwich and placed it in a MEAT GRINDER!!!! It looked like baby barf once he was done. I'm not sure why they choose to use a MEAT GRINDER instead of just chopping it up with the knife already in their hand but they do. Be warned, their MEAT GRINDER gets lots of work there. If you still choose to go by and spend your hard earned money at this establishment, I recommend you be very specific about how you want your meat handled. I have never seen BBQ treated this way. There is just no excuse. My plate came with the standard two sides and everything offered looked worn out and old. The girls behind the counter could have cared less that we were there. It must have been some kind of busy lunch rush for a weekend. Our bill came out to be $40.00 for all 3 of us and for that price I believe we will just keep on looking for a good bbq joint in the Terrell area...because aint it. read more

I went here with my wife and another couple. The prices were right there par with other barbecue restaurants and the food in general was good. All of us really enjoyed the main courses but were all disappointed by the sides with the exception of me who got the baked potato and loved it. The main complaint on the sides was the quality or freshness, having said this we did go at 8pm. The desserts were outstandingly great. read more

We got there about 8:20 pm. There were 4 of us. We got our food from very nice servers (the meat man has mad carving skills). By the time we finished stuffing our faces it was 9:45. They closed at 9. My husband and I moved to TX in 2006, we enjoy good BBQ, and found that Soulman's has the very best, we had lunch there today, again it was great! We just came back from having a great dinner at Soulman's in Terrell, Tx. My husband had the brisquet plate. He remarked how tender and good the meat was. I had a small barbecue beef sandwich and it couldn't have been better. We had never eaten here although we wanted to take barbecue to our family Christmas dinner. So, our visit was a trial run. We were definitely "sold" and placed an order for sliced brisquet. I must say that Cody (Mgr. ?) was very professional and knowledgeable in helping us with our order. The other two employees were very willing and friendly in helping us fill our dinner plates. Jessica was especially thoughtful to our dining pleasure. What more can I say? Our first visit was truly one of the nicest dining pleasures and will surely be back often to dine at Soulman's. read more
