In October 2024, we hired Kevin to rebuild our brick furnace chimney starting at the attic level. The work was completed, except for the application of sealant, on November 1. It appears to be well constructed. We did not give five stars because the process took so long from start to finish. I hired Kevin to address some water issues we were having around the furnace chimney that runs up through the interior of our house. He assessed that the chimney needed to rebuilt from the roofline up and quoted me ~$5K to do the work. I shopped around a bit but was having trouble getting work scheduled in a reasonable time-frame and wanted to stop the leaking so I hired him. Mid job he assessed that he needed to charge me another $800 to haul away the old brick. I'm not sure why this would not have been included in the original quote but I had no choice but to pay it because he'd already destroyed my existing chimney. He finished the job and we had no issues for ~11 months, when we started to see water in the same spot with heavy rains. I called him to come back out and he didn't show up the first time, but after calling again I finally got him to come out to check on his work. He assessed and advised that he could apply water proofing spray, which he hadn't done originally for some reason, and charged me another $200 for ~20 min of work (and he had to use our ladder because he didn't have one with him). The very next day it rained and we again had water leaking. I've tried calling Kevin multiple times, left messages and texts, and he will not answer or call me back. I've had a second opinion from a refutable and warranted company in the area who confirmed that his work was bad and that the crown and flashing need to be completely redone. The quote sheet Kevin provided (the only documentation I have, and am glad I kept) states that he is a Better Business Bureau member but according to the BBB website Sound Chimneys is NOT accredited. I am extremely disappointed in the work Kevin did, and DO NOT recommend Kevin or Sound Chimneys for any major chimney repairs. Ok this is going to be a crazy story so sit down and buckle up. Around 45+ days ago I swear I heard cat meowing in my fireplace(hasn't been used for like 20+ years) one afternoon I opened it and nothing. I kept looking went outside nothing. Sound went away and thought maybe one of my 4 cats were throwing their meow to mess with me. For the next week or so I kept hearing the noise and would grab all my family members (kids, husband, mom, and anyone who would come over) and ask them to listen. Some heard some did not. Moving forward about 20 or so days past still hear it went on the roof took pics down my huge chimney that I had to tip toe to put my phone up to see (almost lost the phone) nothing. Went the fire department. Fire chef came out nothing. Called the exterminator. Came out nothing. You see where I'm going with this right??!! Ok brings me to present day 45+days later. Last night at around 8pm we heard a huge thud and a cat distinctively meowing. Opened it up and went outside nothing. The noise was stronger then ever. Called 911, fire department, cat in a tree complaint, and like 4 chimney companies to find help. No one could assist me. I along with my husband and mother were feeling helpless. As I talked to the cat my mom did a google search and found this company. She called at like 942pm a gentleman answered. My mom told him what was going on and reassured him it wasn't a prank we needed help!!!!!!! Kevin from sound chimneys was in bed and jumped up to come to the rescue. He was at our place by 10pm ready to do what he can. He pulled out our chimney after a few minutes and my husband helped hold it up so I could grab the black kitty. We were all so excited and shocked the little boy was still alive. He started to purr the moment I grabbed him and he placed our fireplace back. If it wasn't for his kindness and quick decision to help at such a late night I don't wanna think of could have happened. This company is now our chimney company from here on out and I am referring everyone and anyone who want kind, quick, and friendly service to this company. We had Kevin do 2 small projects on the same day. He was to install a damper at the top of the chimney, which we discovered was not functioning properly. Despite numerous messages, he never returned our call. We went up on the roof ourselves and discovered the damper was simply placed on top of the chimney, with no adhesive to keep it in place. I don't recommend this company due to their shoddy installation and lack of followup. read more

The Daltons (Terry and Sharon) run a professional, honest and experienced company. I was truly impressed from start to finish and it was money well spent to repair our chimney. At no point did I feel they were blowing smoke up my a$$. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) During the heavy winds and rains in December 2015 we sprung a leak in the garage where the roof meets the chimney. The house is 60 years old and I soon found out that chimney damage is due to water/moisture more than fire (source: CSIA). I called several places and Sound Chimney was the only one to provide a free estimate. Not only that, they encouraged me to shop around for other quotes. How refreshing is that? Terry and his crew were excellent. They arrived early on January 8, 2016. It took less than a day to perform the following work and it matched Terry's December 16 estimate. Removed the moss from chimney. Tuck point (repaired the mortar joints) from the roofline up to the top of the chimney. Installed a new 3" mortar crown and chimney top. Installed new flashing on all four sides. And they installed two stainless steel caps (13x13 and 8x8) which were each $50 cheaper than their competition. So we save $100 there. We saved another 15% using Angie's List. And Terry's crew will return in the summer to apply a sealant on some of the porous bricks. Again, Sharon and Terry and their employees were a pleasure to work with. The chimney looks amazing and leak issue is resolved for another 50 years. I highly recommend Sound Chimney. Kevin came out and fixed the masonry on our chimney, repointed the chimney, and put on new chimney caps the day after Thanksgiving, 2020. He did a great job. On December 31, I texted Kevin to let him know the cap had fallen over, and would he please come and fix it. I had to send a follow up text on Jan 19 to see if he received my previous text. on Jan 20, he replied he could do it on the next Sat. On Sat, he said he couldn't make it, but he would come out the next day on Sunday. On Sunday, he said he couldn't make it again, but would come out on Mon or Tues. On Friday, Jan 29 I texted again to see when he would be able to come out to put the chimney cap back in place. I called again on 2-19-21, 3-12-21, and 3-22-21. Needless to say he has not returned to finish the job, and has not contacted me to set up a date and time to do it. I understand businesses can become very busy, and overwhelmed, but we paid Kevin a lot of money to fix and rehab our chimney, which he did. He told me repeatedly that he would come out and do the job, which he failed to do. So instead of wasting my time chasing him with texts and unanswered phone calls, I contacted a different company to do the job. It is a shame that the good work he originally did on the chimney has not carried through on his customer service. I will never hire him again, nor recommend his services. read more

Sharon Dalton is an absolute wonderful person to talk to. She did ask where I learn about them, but I don't think she was weeding out customers just because they didn't find them on Angie's List. Someone promptly came out, inspected the chimney and pinpointed the problem and gave me a very reasonable quote - when compared to ones I already got. Unlike the other companies, Sound gave a relatively firm date as to when they will come out to do the work. I had an issue with my fireplace not being up to code when the previous home owners built a new wall around it, and had the wood beams coming all the way up to the opening. Called for an estimate on a crown repair. Came out same day. Awesome. Everyone is very nice. Stated that they could be out by the end of the week for the repair and would call us before they came out. No call, no show. Not too big of a deal as we had some rain storms and thought that might have put them behind. Willing to give the benefit of the doubt and we all know how busy life can get in a hurry. Called the following Tuesday to get an actual scheduled time for the fix. They stated that they would call me back as soon as they talked to the chimney tech and looked up our estimate. Never received a call back. From first impressions, I was very happy and thought this would definitely be the company. After no call backs or anything, Not very happy at all. I understand it is a small job that we needed done, but one that needs to be done never the less to keep our chimney in good condition. This was 3 weeks ago. Had to go with another company. read more
