Shrimp toast was AMAZING. That sauce, crispy texture outside, and the really soft filling of the golden brown you tiao and shrimp filling is dreamy. This is the dish I would come back for. The sloppy joes were also good and pack a bunch of flavor in the ground chicken. I wish it were a different noodle that could grip onto that sauce a little better, rather than the slippery noodles it does come with. For $14, it's a very good portion size for what you get, especially being surrounded by many restaurants that would charge double that or give you half the portions. I ate half and saved the other half. Relatively empty on a weeknight, which is a great place to check out when you want a substantial and tasty meal but not want to wait in line. I was starving after leaving an appointment nearby here and seriously craving soup dumplings. Nom Wah was the closest spot that came up in my search, so I decided to give it a try. At first I was shocked at how cheap the soup dumplings were, then I realized it was only 4 to an order so I decided to get two. I also got their spicy cucumber salad because I figured I should eat a vegetable. The atmosphere here is casual, very much a to go spot but if you want to sit there are plenty of seats. There's a filtered water station where you can help yourself. I placed my order and waited 15 minutes or so for it to come out. The cucumber salad was delicious, with hot chili and crunchy nuts on top. The soup dumplings were just okay. They were kind of small, and many of them were already broken before I picked them up which was a bummer. Nom Wah in Nolita is such a fun spot. I got the sloppy joe noodles and while the wait was long, it was totally worth it. The noodles were flavorful and spicy with seasoning that tasted like a mix of Chinese and Indian curry. I added extra chili oil and it was perfect. The staff here are always so friendly and genuinely nice! It's an open kitchen layout with self order and service so it's quite casual. They make really amazing dishes in such a small space. I would definitely get the duck buns (2 for $14) and the fried pork dumplings (4 for $8) again. One of the best duck buns I had in awhile. I was kinda worried cause the duck was shredded thought it would be dry but it was JUICY CRISPY FLAVORFUL. A friend and I met up for dinner at nom wah. When you walk in, there are ipads to order from and I believe you can order from a person if you are paying cash. You then just sit and wait until they call your name and bring you a tray of food. There are only a few tables inside and then outdoor seating as well, and seems to be equally popular to order takeout as it is to eat there. My favorites were the Shrimp and pork siu mai and the chicken soup dumplings. While I enjoyed my duck bun, it didn't have the best ratio of duck to greens - that said, my friend seemed to have more duck on hers, so maybe I just got the weaker bun. Scallion pancakes were good, not overly greasy like I've had at other places, and I had tried the Phoenix buns (for the first time ever, so I don't have a good comparison for those!). The Sloppy Joe noodles were interesting, but I think I'd rather try something else instead of revisiting that item the next time I go. I was excited to finally try Market 57 last weekend. After surveying my options in the market, I decided to try the gluten free dumpling option at Nom Wah. The line was short and moved quickly but it took quite a while to get my food (my friends that ordered at other vendors were 1/2 way done with their meals before I got mine). After ordering I inquired about gluten free dumpling sauce and they informed me they didn't have any. I was super disappointed. I don't feel like my meal was as it was intended to be enjoyed without the proper sauces. Honestly, I wouldn't have ordered if I had realized they didn't have a gluten free soy/dumpling sauce on hand. If you display a gluten free option please make sure the full meal can be enjoyed by someone who is gluten free. I only had about 4 of the 8 dumplings I was served. My friends and I had just finished having a few drinks close by when we were looking for some food. A few had heard good things about the original Nom Wah on Doyers, so since we pretty much stumbled upon this one we decided to check it out. I'm not sure how the other Nom Wah location works with seating, but here all tables are outdoors; we briefly stepped inside but were told to grab any available table. They have QR codes taped to the tables and all ordering and payment is done via a third party app they partnered with. I've been to a couple of other places that utilize this and I really like the efficiency of it. There were five of us so we decided to order a bunch of dim sum: soup dumplings, pork buns, shrimp dumplings, pea-leaf dumplings, turnip cakes, edamame dumplings, pork and shrimp shumai. I thought everything was quite tasty - standouts for me were the turnip cakes and shumai. While I liked some things more than others, I felt everything was presented nicely with a lot of flavor. Overall, I had a great experience at Nom Wah. I'm not a connoisseur of dim sum, so I can't say how close to authentic this is. However, everything was tasty and service was fast. If I was craving dim sum again I would definitely return. read more

I've had the crispy chicken buns and they're absolutely delicious -- excellent crisp and flavorful sauce (don't forget to add the Sichuan chili oil as well, which isn't too spicy). Good asian food with a fusion of flavors! There's a mix of traditional and non-traditional flavors used here. The soup dumplings and chive + pork dumplings taste very authentic. Super flavorful yet light. The turnip cakes are interesting. They have a large slathering of hoisin sauce on top, which overpowers the delicate flavor of the turnip cake. The sloppy joe noodles are like if Taiwanese beef noodle soup was dry. Interesting texture, but I'm not sure there's enough flavor there. Our bill was also a little expensive for dim sum. I was excited to try out Market 57 and explore the many different food vendors. My first visit was to Nom Wah and sadly I was disappointed. I got pan fried noodles with crispy chicken. The chicken was so so greasy it gave me as stomach ache. :( ugh. And the noodles were so dry I needed an additional bottle of water to wash it down. Perhaps I should have put on some of the chili oil and it would have helped the consistency but I feared it would make it too hot. Really disappointed - but giving them the benefit of the doubt because they are newly opened and they were short staffed. Still, deserves no more (or for those reasons no less) than three stars. Hoping they can improve over time. Need to mention the ambiance. There are some spots to eat - not many tables but a few down the hall. I've enjoyed Dim Sum for many years, but I don't think I've ever been to a Dim Sum restaurant until Saturday. So when we walked into Nom Wah Nolita not only did I visit my first Dim Sum restaurant, but I also learned a new acronym - because I learned that "Nolita" is NYC shorthand for North of Little Italy. Nom Wah Nolita features self service ordering from a kiosk, or you can order the old-fashioned way - face-to face with a real human being at a counter. The menu offers a dozen or so dim sum dishes, most of which will cost you six bucks or so for four pieces. Our party of three split four dishes: Pork Soup Dumplings ($5.50), Shrimp & Snow Pea Dumplings ($5.50), House Special Roast Pork Buns ($7 for two pretty big buns), and Shrimp Dumplings ($5.50). Honestly, everything was great, from the shrimpy goodness of the shrimp dumplings to the luxurious and silky soup dumplings, to the varied textures and colors of the shrimp and snow pea dumplings, to the delicious pork filling in the pillowy buns. Outstanding on all counts. The dining room has a real eclectic flair with lots of reds and whites and black walls, colorful blackboard menus, and some very cool artwork of dim sum-like creatures, looking like they escaped from a Space Invaders arcade game. I have to say I have received the worst customer service from this location for something I should never have been charged for. I tried to use a Blackbird reward on Feb. 21st and the worker there said there would be no problem using it but he still rang it up at full price I questioned him why it was showing a charge and he told me I wouldn't be charged. Low and behold the charge shows up on my statement the next day. I called in to try to get it refunded and even though it had only been a couple of days the worker was super lazy and said I needed to dispute it with my card company. I also contacted Blackbird since it went through Blackbird pay and they are also useless. I contacted the restaurant one more time and their excuse this time was they are too busy and can't do anything then and just call my bank to dispute. I have never heard of a business who could not reverse a charge and brushed you off so quickly. Why is it on the customer to resolve it themselves for a mistake they made and now I have to sit through the credit company's dispute process! I hope management takes a look at this and makes some changes. And oh, they also told me they don't have a manager when I asked for one. Laughable! read more

I got Turnt Up Turnip Cakes which were heavenly, the right amount of frying, sauce and topping, with a lil chinese sausage in there to make it feel like a definite treat. You get plenty to share, but I only asked friends once, and then went at it alone. I also got Pan Fried Chicken and Cabbage Dumplings. Wonnderful. You may look & think there aren't enough to be filling, til you taste and realize how stuffed and well seasoned and filled you will be after eating all 4. I also got a Spiked Strawberry Lemonade, which was tasty, but didn't seem too spiked. Spiked enough I suppose, but it didn't need to be spiked to be so tasty.
