My wife and I had heard about this restaurant from friends and we decided to try it on a Saturday for lunch. We were greeted by Nick and we had a choice of a table or a booth. We took a booth and were immediately approached by our server Lud. The menu is extensive and there is a special menu for breakfast. There were a lot of salad choices but we elected to get their Club sandwich and a Smashburger. We received our food choices from Lud pretty promptly and we both enjoyed our choices a great deal. My Smashburger was two 1/2-pound patties, so it was substantial and it was cooked perfectly for me. I enjoyed the South 40 fries that were coated with a batter of some sort and crisp. Lud came back regularly to see how our meals were. There were TVs on the walls showing college hoops. The building in which this restaurant is located has, in addition to a large dining area, a large bar, and some entertainment attractions, like an extensive arcade for young children and an Extreme Virtual Reality play zone. In summary, we enjoyed the food, the service was excellent and there were diversions for kids for after meals. The only two points for potential improvement were, 1) with a menu with a number of burger options, they didn't have relish available, and 2) my wife ordered the Mac-and-cheese and found it somewhat lacking. It looked like they were using Velveeta cheese rather than a thicker type, like a cheddar. We'll be back soon! read more

We went there with the grandkids just to go to the arcade. They offer a variety of ways to play. They played the VR experience a couple of times. The people manning the game and arcade area were really polite and helpful in explaining. The kids had a good time. There's a bar in the back. Restaurant looks nice but we didn't eat there. The new chef and menu have restored South 40 as one of our regular lunch spots. For the first time in months, the bar seating was packed, but we enjoyed our favorite table at a high-top. Service was good, maybe a little slow due to the number of patrons. No drinks menu was offered, but we know which wines we like so no worries. The fried pickle app was very good; crispy batter and a generous serving for two. We asked for the citrus aioli instead of the siracha and it was a good combo taste. The Tennessee Hot Chicken sandwich is as good as ever and the excellent South 40 fries recipe hasn't changed. The Tuna Melt (new sandwich addition) was also excellent. The new menu has many more appetizer, salad, and sandwich choices and so many of them looked really good. We will return! read more

My family and I recently got to enjoy this place because we were invited to a birthday party, and we had so much fun! It's very open and lots to do. Plenty of parking spaces. The rooms for the parties were VERY hot though, even with not many people in the room. It was so hot, people were standing around sweating. So we did our best to not stay in the room as much, just quick bite for our kid and blow out candles for the birthday celebrant. The games were fun, and my kid loved the claw machines. I actually won twice in the claw machines, which has never happened before! One thing though was I wish they would let you scan to play again more frequently. Sometimes when you're playing a game, and you need to scan for more credits, you have to wait because it's too soon. But by the time it allows you to do it, it's timed out and you have to start all over. read more

Recently visited south 40 for the first time for a graduation party and we had such a fun time. It is sooo big and bright in there I was surprised. There were probably 5 graduation parties going on in the same room at the same time and there was still so much room and did not feel crowded at all! We didn't try too much of the food but the atmosphere was great and all the games were so fun. Our toddler had a great time. There was a wide range of activities that were fun for all age groups which was nice. Toddlers are usually forgotten!! So it was nice to see a little toddler area. We came here to attend the craft fair and get lunch. When we arrived we noticed the subtle changes, such as the partial wall for the bar area and the split wall at the hostess station. It was nice to see the defined area for the bar and the eating area. We were seated quickly and received water. We ordered and then went to wanted around the craft fair. There were many local vendors with unique and special items. It was easy to navigate. We were able to get several Christmas and birthday gifts. Our food arrived promptly. I shared the Shrimp Louie Salad with my daughter. It was thoughtfully separated in two plates. There were 5 large shrimp on each plate along with cherry tomatoes, capers, asparagus spears, hard boiled egg, avocado, cucumber and thousand island dressing. It was so good and all the items complimented each other. Another ordered the Turkey Reuben Sandwich. This included turkey breast, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on marbled bread. The side selected was a side salad. The sandwich was served warm at the perfect temperature. The side salad was fresh and crisp with ranch dressing in the side. The kids ordered pepperoni pizza. This came out piping hot and was very cheesy. It was a great experience. read more

This review is just for the arcade. We dropped by on Monday night to see what's changed since our last visit, which has been at least several months. The dining area was empty as we walked through. The arcade area was a bit busy with kids riding the mobile animal rides in and out to the back yard. They had several signs advertising the latest special deals for game play as well as a new Locals VIP club. We had reloaded our game cards before I noticed it in the Redemption Center. Will have to sign up next time. The redemption center was fully stocked with prizes, most of which we've seen on previous visits. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I brought in collector cards we had gotten from their machines a while ago to redeem. Even though the Marvel machine was no longer there, I could still turn in the cards, yay! When I had issues redeeming the Wonka card sets in the machine, the guy working at the center came to help. He explained the cards had changed but he would be able to give us tickets for them manually. That was awesome and nice to know the sets I saved up were not wasted. Thank you! The arcade itself was clean and amazingly majority of the games were working, compared to other places we have gone to. Plus, the basketballs in the games were actually pumped up, which was a nice surprise. While playing some of the games, I noticed the card readers advertised Monday 1/2 price games! That was so nice to be able to enjoy time there a bit longer than typical hehe. South 40 has a good variety of claw machines for both tickets and unique stuffies. I really like the upscale bar vibe at South 40. The happy hour was pretty decent, the coconut shrimp were crispy and delicious, the sliders were low quality beef but for $10 acceptable, and the wings were also priced fair and had plenty of meat on the bone! The drinks were strong and the vibes were great. A casual spot that's family friendly, kids can roam the giant arcade. They also host tuesday night swing dancing which I appreciate. Overall, pretty decent for a Reno bar pub experience. read more

Not sure why their rating of is mid. I think the best time to go there is during happy hour (2-6) on a weekday. We went there for happy hour Friday, closer to 2 PM and the place was virtually empty on the dining side. The bar side I think had quite a few diners, but I was glad we got seated at the empty side. Place looked decent and nice considering they're connected to a gigantic arcade. We ordered food from the regular menu although some were also available on the happy hour menu. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and just as friendly server. For apps we ordered the Burrata and Roasted Tomatoes with Crostini and Calamari. The Burrata is not found in a lot of places offered as an app but South 40 does. We were not disappointed!!! It was so, so good, although, for some reason the green tomatoes were not as roasted as the red ones. But, so good none-the-less. The calamari wasn't bad either, it can actually compete with other bar and grills as far as taste and flavor. For entrees, I had the Mango Shrimp Salad and the husband got the Chopped Philly Cheese Steak with Sweet Potato Fries, but you get quite a few choices for your sides. The salad was awesome! It had mango strips, but because it wasn't in season, it wasn't quite sweet but still ok. The blackened shrimp that came with the salad was also good, a little on the spicy side but even a weakling like me can deal with the kick. My only gripe is that there wasn't enough dressing. I'll ask for extra next time I eat there. Per the husband, the Philly Cheese steak was good. It was a good, enjoyable experience and will make it a point to go again during happy hour when there's not a lot of people. read more

The happy hour deal is such a great option at this restaurant! We hadn't been for a few months and were attending a basketball game at The Sportsdome so met the family before the game for dinner. Service is always good here and I love the partition they put between the bar area and main dining room. It is spacious inside and can easily fit larger groups-which is helpful because when we have family visiting it can be a group of 10-12. We ordered off both the happy hour and their regular menu-mozzarella sticks, wings, sliders, cheeseburger, steak dinner (cooked perfectly) and cocktails. We love South 40 for the kids' arcade! It's never too crowded, which makes it a great spot for kids to hang out and play. We bought a game card for around $30-35 that gave one hour of unlimited play on any machine (the rainbow light card) -- such a good deal to keep kids entertained. They also have a back room with even more games and activities, which makes it fun for repeat visits. The only disappointment for us has been the food. We tried it a few years ago and thought it was just okay. A few weeks ago, we gave it another chance, and unfortunately, it was still just okay. Grabbing a beer and maybe a snack works fine, but we wouldn't choose South 40 as a dinner spot with friends. I had a reservation for a group of 10 but accidentally booked in the bar area instead of the restaurant. Without hesitation, the team gladly moved us to a great table in the restaurant--no hassle, no attitude, just pure hospitality. The food was absolutely delicious--everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Everyone at the table raved about their meals. On top of that, the customer service truly exceeded my expectations. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests. I had difficulty posting that previous review (too long, cut off before I could edit) and wanted a quick correction/update especially ecially since I tried to follow up with them and never did get a call back. They didn't have the area ready. It took two hours from standing in line to order food to getting the food. The entertainment was canceled. They tried to pass off small pizzas as larges (we paid for large). Guests had to go before we even got food. Pretty much killed the party. I would maybe go back for dinner on a weeknight but for events, especially important ones that has guests, don't do it. You really do get what you pay for. read more

I love how it's right down the street from where I live, it's just convenient for me and my family to go to. Round1 at the Meadowood Mall is usually the place me and family go to or when I take my kiddo's friends, now that I gave this place a chance, never have I known how cheaper the credits are compared to Round1. Although Round1 is known for its high quality plushie and Japanese games, if you're not minding much on that part, definitely come check out their arcade here. So my wife and I decided to check this out. We rolled up and decided to check out the games first. After doing a walk through, we discovered this place is HUGE. It would be a great place to host an event because they had a huge separate seating area with a stage and some games, even a play area for little kids. Now the arcade side was cool. They had just enough games to play and be entertained. We came on a Thursday which was 1/2 off games! So that was cool! We paid $20 and played for at least an hour and still had credits. Next we got hungry and decided to eat at the attached restaurant they have. I decided to have a Guiness and she had a mixed vodka. It was good. I ordered French fries which was great!!! And she ordered a pasta which came with a side salad and broccoli, again great! Unfortunately I didn't get pictures because I was too side tracked with the outdoor seating and view of the mountains. I'm beyond irritated right now with this place. Beyond! Called on a Tuesday to reserve two virtual reality spots for 8 players each - group of 16. I was reserving for that Thursday night. We planned to have drinks and dinner there before playing. The person on the phone told me that there was no need to reserve ahead of time because they wouldn't be busy and he would make a note that we were coming. My group of 16 came in at 6:00 pm for cocktails and food. I myself went down to the VR counter to tell the guy that we would playing after dinner - no problems. We started checking in the first group of 8 around 7:40. He took everyone's payment and had them sign forms, etc. THEN told us that someone else was playing at 8:00 so we couldn't play until 8:30!!!!!! That would only be our first group playing at 8:30! Why in the hell didn't he tell us that before we paid!!! So we decided to wait. Bad decision. We were then told something was wrong with the server so it would be later. We are bored by now. We ended up getting refunds at 9:00 and saw ANOTHER group in there playing while we were leaving - a completely different group than was there before! So they clearly put more people ahead of us. Whatever. Took a lot to coordinate 16 people going there and such a completely disappointing night. Two thumbs down. read more

Three of us visited South 40 only for dinner. The casual-food menu was more varied than usual for an entertainment venue. The food was prepared very well, too... better than we expected. The beer and wine menu is extensive. The service was terrific. Bonus: the background music was fun! Very fun place akin to Dave & Busters with plenty to do for little kids, big kids and adults being kids! The facility's very large and spacious with pre than enough seating indoors and a cozy outdoor courtyard. The staff were phenomenal!!! Super friendly, very helpful and patient with the kiddos. The chicken sandwich was tender, and during the weekday, it's not so busy. I did not know there was an arcade aspect to it. We did not explore, but they also have laser tag, a bar, and happy hour. I'm going to go back with the family to check it out one day. The front parking lot has plenty of spaces, but it has a lot of very unnoticeable speed bumps. Be careful, especially if your car is lowered. The exit out of the parking lot can be complicated if you want to go left on South meadows. I suggest taking the back way to the stop signs and then taking the light to turn. You'll have to make a u turn to get back on if you try to go straight to South Meadows to exit the complex. The venue is large, and since it was not busy, I am not sure how packed it would be during the weekends. It is a good place to bring family and still have fun for all ages. Ordered Nachos which came cold. Got the cheese fries that were barely warm. The chicken wings were dry and chewy. Biggest fail was the quesadilla, ordered them with fresh jalapeños and we got pickled. Advise the guy who brought the food, he took it back and 5 mins later brought back the same exact quesadilla. So now it's cold and soggy. Don't know if he thought we were dumb or wouldn't notice. Told our server who said she'll take off the extra charge from the quesadilla but she sees ours at the window. Stopped in after going to GolfNV next door to get a drink and watch a little football. Gotta say for my first visit I was super impressed with how clean and bright it was inside. They have a number of servers and food runners so it was rare to not have a full glass or wait for food. Plenty of seats and tv's in the bar area. I liked the menu and the selections. The beer choices are slimmer but the full bar has a lot of options. After having a chance to stop in I am looking forward to going back with a group and watching a game. South 40 Bar & Grill in Reno just held the Brin A Palooza Event in South Reno! Wow!!!! This event was held in Sacramento for 10 years. Now, K Rock 104.5 FM with Robb Anything & Dawn Show, came to Reno with the Guys from RAD Radio and had the event at south 40 Var & Grille...and what a great venue south 40 is! So many fans from Sacramento to Reno cans out today for Robbs Turkey Brine. 1000 packets of Robbs brine are produced and they sell out every year. The line went out the door. There were 3 bands playing. Fatman & Robin was the first band and Winter Light the 2nd band. The music was great. South 40 sold Brine Turkey Sandwiches and a special signature Bloodymary for today's event. Also Signature Bourbon Bottles. J Atlas Art Enterprises, a vendor, had a Turkey Project for kids to make and there were other vendors selling their wares. Robb and the gang showed up in a beautiful limousine. They had a videographer to film everyone who came to see them. A signed photo from all the celebrities and a pack of brine that looked pretty cool! A photo with each person on their phone was taken. The backyard at South 40 was filled with people. Bands playing, meeting celebrities, buying brine, eating turkey sandwiches, drinking signature drinks, and kids making a Turkey project, the backyard of South 40 Bar & Grille was electric. South 40 also has a restaurant, full bar, Arcade with prize room, A new VR room, games for adults like ax throwing and pool, with a purple pool table, as well as live music on the weekends with Specialty Art Events monthly throughout the year. A big thank you to Russel Upton, General Manager & Event Manager, for South 40 Bar & Grille. This was a hugh Event. I thought South 40 Bar & Grille did a fantastic job hosting this Brin A Palooza Event with Rad Radio, K Rock and The Robb Anytime & Dawn Show. I have went to the Punk Rock Flea market at every location they have held the event in the past. South 40 did the best job hosting by far. This was my first time going to South 40 and it happened to be during happy hour! The waiter was prompt and attentive happy hour menu is really good and you get a lot of food for half the price! I got a small salad that was a decent size and sliders and did not even realize it came with fries. So I was happy! They also have an arcade area and a large event area with a bar for those interested. I did not get to experience the arcade this time around ,but will definitely be back for sure! read more

Our nonprofit group held our Christmas luncheon at South 40, and it was absolutely wonderful! A big shoutout to Jaime, the Events Manager, for setting up a beautifully arranged table for us -- she was so gracious and accommodating throughout the entire process. Serving 14 people is no small task, but our server, Brook, handled everything beautifully. She kept every order and drink perfectly organized and made sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately the reviews are fairly accurate which is so sad because we need an awesome place like this in south Reno. It is an absolutely lovely space in the main restaurant and the arcade and back room games area is HUGE!! A lot of fun to be had by the whole family, but the games are more expensive than coconut bowl. We didn't run into too many out of service games and had a good times. The consensus of the group was that the major disappointment was the food. Very mediocre unfortunately. Pizza was fine but nothing great. Wings were terrible. Chips super basic. Fries were the best thing. I wish they could get a better kitchen in place because it really is a fantastic spot. read more

We started off grabbing lunch in the restaurant side. We had the triple dips which were as expected but nothing super special. I had ordered the Focaccia Turkey Sandwich and my husband the chicken avocado club. My focaccia to start had tomato after I had asked to get it without and I also realized after i started eating it that the menu stated it had spinach but it ended up coming with regular lettuce. Also pretty sure the bread was Ciabatta not Focaccia but I'm not a bread expert, just wasn't the typical focaccia you may be used to seeing. In the end the sandwich was still good, but not exactly what was advertised, which was a bit disappointing. My husband enjoyed his sandwich. Service was good. Food came fairly quickly. We played some games afterwards. It was a little disappointing the selection they had, especially since quite a few of them weren't even working properly. Just recently visited and I have to say that the food was ok, portions (Happy Hour) were very small and the service was not very good. I asked the waitress "what is your soup today" her response was "oh I don't know" and then stood there! I then said "can you go find out", she hesitated and then said yes. It was down hill from there. My husband beer sat for about 15 minutes on the bar before my husband got up and got it himself. If you don't want to be a server then don't serve. MaKayla was a very gracious host and attentive to all of our needs. The 3 lil pigs omelette had bacon, ham and sausage and was full of flavor. Country potatoes are chunky but cooked well with a soft inside and crunchy outside. The California omelette has tomatoes, spinach and avocado. It's very fresh. The hash browns are thinly sliced potatoes and seasoned very well. South 40 is a vast space that could hold very large groups or intimate enough for date night. Gotta move them up a star. They seem to have improved in the kitchen bringing in a newer chef to make the needed changes. We saw that they were having a weekend special of 50% off breakfasts for the next few weeks as they introduce a weekend breakfast menu. The first time we went my wife tried the Benedict and I tried the loco moco at the recommendation of the previously mentioned new chef. He told me that it is more traditional with the "correct" gravy. I was impressed with his passionate decisive response. And I was rewarded with the best darn Loco Moco I have ever had. The benedict was very good too. A proper hollandaise has just the right lemon amount and this one did. I also tried the bloody mary and it was worth getting again. This week we went in again to try some more dishes to get a good idea of the breakfast menu. This time I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs while my wife ordered up the New York steak and soft scrambled eggs. We both also shared a plate of french toast. And you know what? The star of this whole meal was the syrup served with the the french toast. Everything else was good working mans food. The french toast was picture perfectly cooked as were all of the other dishes. But there was a little something missing. For example the chicken fried steak was good...but it seemed to be not freshly hand made. I know...what do I expect these days? Well, I really like a freshly breaded chicken fried steak. All this said...the South 40 seems to be moving in the right direction with it's food and it's staff. The first couple of times I went in soon after opening, the place seemed to be a little hectic in how it was being ran. Staff were chatting up each other and talking loudly about things that weren't really customer friendly. But the last two times the service has been excellent! Super attentive bar tender the first time and today we had a wonderful server who took great care of us while getting other larger tables. Stopped in for the Reno Food Week specials of Maui Pulled Pork Sandwich & Maui-Rita. Large restaurant location with three distinct sections. There's a casual restaurant and full bar up front, video game section, and a covered warehouse section with pin bowling and other games. All-in-all a great place to hang out. Most people enjoy the back room with a very casual hang out atmosphere with its own bar and a live music stage. Owner says they are working on improvements to that back section and I have seen some improvements since my last visit. There was a graduation celebration there this weekend which look like a great venue for a special event. Gaming section has state of the art games with VR, large screen games for two and some traditional video games. Looks like it has a ticket exchange for prizes, etc. Front section is a casual restaurant with full bar and big screens strategically located to watch the game. Our Pulled Pork sliders were okay. Needed more sauce or something to boost the flavor. Maui-Rita was good. I like sweet tropical drinks so the fruit purée was a welcome addition to this tropical version of a Rita. Staff is friendly and attentive. The high ceilings and warehouse feel is light and bright with a distinctive modern flare. Great place to meet friends for a drink and grab an app or two. I did see an outdoor area with cornhole and picnic benches. Don't know if it welcomes pooches but it looked like a great place to hang out with a cold beer in the summer. read more
