South block has become my go to smoothie bowl place in the morning! It's so easy to order through their app and pickup in store to skip the line. I always order their Nutella bowl. The mini size is the perfect quantity for me without being too filling. I've been to several locations but love the Georgetown one to start my morning. I soon need to venture out and try other items besides the Nutella bowl, but it's so delicious that I genuinely crave it in the morning. It's always busier on weekends, so I recommended placing those online orders to avoid long waits.
I love the guava smoothie! One of the best smoothies I've had. Also you can order through a self-service kiosk.
Tried the strawberry bowl for the first time and it was delicious! Very tropical, but not too insanely sweet. Added collagen protein which was great and barely added any taste to the bowl. Wanderlust bowl was also good and fresh. Bowls were made quickly which was great. Only gave 4 stars because the bowls can get kinda pricey - with the added protein plus tax & tip, we paid $34 for both bowls.
Tryna be healthy but also have something super delicious? South Block is the place for you. They have a great varieties of açaí bowls and smoothies to choose from, and each are so tasty you won't even realize you're picking in tons of fruits and vitamins! I love their pb&j bowls and smoothies because they're creamy and fruity. I would come here for breakfast or for a snack, although I know some people find their bowls filling enough for lunch. Their offerings are a bit on the pricier side, but that's to be expected for a smoothie place, especially in Georgetown. They do have seating which is shared with Grace Street Coffee and a sandwich place in the same space, and it's a nice atmosphere with great lighting. But if you come during popular hours seating might be difficult, bc this is definitely a hot spot!
Walked into here randomly bc we wanted a quick pick me up after walking around Georgetown. We definitely picked right! More on the expensive side but you also get what you pay for. I got the Mini Bowl $7 ( Acia, banana, almond milk topped with banana, granola and strawberry) with a Blood orange tea. Ughhh so damn good! Always a sucker for some delicious tea. They have plenty of seating outside as well as inside. So take ur pick. Tip: if you're not in the mood for huge portions opt for the Mini Bowl!! It's the perfect mid-day pick me up snack.
Excellent customer service, fresh quality juices, and in a great location! This place is my go to when it comes to doing my yearly juice cleanse. Their juices cleanse and revitalize my body leaving me feeling fresh and renewed!!
One of my go-to places while I was in D.C. over the summer! This place made me fall in love with acai bowls. Their bowls were so refreshing and easy to take-out. If you are ever in Georgetown, I would definitely recommend grabbing a bowl and walking a block down to the waterfront to enjoy your acai. I would honestly recommend all of their bowls, but my favorites were the Warrior Bowl and the Magic Dragon Bowl (for all pitaya lovers).
South Block has fresh, healthy smoothies, acai bowls, and snacks that are tasty and refreshing. Although it is quite expensive (~10 for a smoothie and ~13 for an acai bowl) the quality is definitely there.
I was surprised to discover that this juice bar shares indoor seating and an outdoor courtyard with a couple of other businesses. It's a very pretty space. The menu was pretty straightforward; pretty much all juices and smoothies unlike some juice bars which branch out a little bit more. It's definitely on the pricier end. The smoothie I got was bursting with flavor. I doubt it had much nutritional value, and the larger size was so big I might sooner not have ordered it, despite being a modest price increase over the regular for 50% more smoothie. It's a very Georgetown-y place, but not a luxury I'd be inclined to indulge in regularly.
What a find!!! This shop is tucked away, but once you find it, you can't miss it again! The food was so refreshing and healthy. They also give you a lot of food, so I'd say the price is definitely fair. They have areas where you can sit and work or hang out with friends. Definitely recommend if you are in the area!
PRICE: Like any typical acai or smoothie shop - it's quite pricey for a bowl or drink, averaging around $10-12 for a bowl. They have options to add extra toppings, seeds/grains, protein for +$1-2 **Chia seeds are always free! (in case you missed that on the menu) **They do not accept cash at their locations! FOOD: The fruit here is always fresh and reliably satisfying if you're looking for a meal/snack with well-balanced macro and micronutrients. Most fruits are pretty low calorie but with added granolas, nut butters, or seeds, most of these options will equate to a full meal (~500-600 calories) **They do include the nutrition facts on the menu, which is helpful for those who are interested in tracking their macros! - Warrior Bowl (519 cal) - delicious, refreshing, and filling with plenty of berries. They don't skimp on the ingredients which is great, and you can' always rely on South Block to produce some pretty instagrammable bowls. SERVICE: Quick and efficient - staff was also very friendly. ATMOSPHERE: Minimalistic, grab-n-go establishment. Perfect stop while having a day out.

This was my first time at South Block while I was visiting a friend, and it was so good! They were very packed the day we went so it was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. I ordered the Mermaid smoothie and it was just as yummy as it looks! Looking forward to my next visit to try an açai bowl. read more

I went on a Sunday morning around 11 o'clock, and it was moderately busy. Lots of people getting açai bowls! But I stuck with a strawberry passion fruit smoothie and it did not disappoint. So refreshing! Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Cute spot! Nice location not far at all from the Georgetown waterfront. Will be back! read more

These bowls are addicting ! They are very generously portioned , (still pricey but this is to be expected with acai bowls) and the flavor is top notch. Definitely my favorite acai bowl place I've ever been to. I like to order online from them it's really easy and will usually be ready in less than 10 minutes . Their smoothies are also good but I prefer the acai bowls because they have the granola which is so so good. They also have a good rewards program if you order online where you get a free bowl after only a few purchases ! read more

Today's the soft opening and hours are 11-4pm, but they opened five minutes before 11am to accommodate the SoulCycle Georgetown University crowd and yoga crowd. This location is strategically located with yoga and cycle studios nearby and thus all the shops benefit or become feeders to each other. Amir and company got through the throng of SoulCyle spinners in a jiffy. I thought it would take a long time to get my order but it did not. Service times were great despite the SoulCycle or yoga surge. Regarding the warrior bowl, it was awesome. This is my first time at a South Block even though I have passed the one in Clarendon many times. Anyhow, I had the warrior bowl and I substituted banana with mango for the smoothie portion My tip is to get here early when they do institute regular times because I can imagine it will be very crowded. read more

Pros: - smoothie bowls are delicious and healthy. They put a decent amount of fresh fruit and granola in the bowls. I got the Cali bowl, which was an acai mixture with soy milk so not too sweet and add granola bananas and blueberries on top. It was the perfect amount of sweetness for me and enjoyed it a lot - good amount of seating with large communal tables and individual seating in a bar area along the windows - outdoor seating for when it's warm out! Cons: - pretty expensive for the amount of food you get. $10-$12 for bowls and even more for their smoothies and juices - it is super loud in here! With the blenders on and loud music, I found it hard to concentrate and work. Many people/students are working here though, so maybe it's just me! Would definitely recommend trying their bowls! I really enjoyed them and they reminded me of home (SoCal). read more

I absolutely love Acai bowls and I was happy to be referred to South Block. The bowls are one of the most delicious acai bowls I've had. In addition, they are pretty quick considering the number of people that go to this location. Finally, I love the juice portion of this location. They have juice shots in case you want some with digestion or immunity. I love this location. Please note there isn't a ton of seating space, but you will definitely want to sit and enjoy this location! read more

Ah. When I'm in georgetown and I want something delicious and health to eat, I go directly to south block. I'm a big fan of all their smoothies and açaí bowls. I would list my favorite, but I really don't even have some. The dragon bowl is amazing and has a beautiful fuchsia color! But careful, your tongue will be bright fuchsia too. The staff if always friendly and giving super vibes when I'm there. This is by far my favorite location, and it's really all about the people that work there. If you get an açaí bowl I highly recommend ETXRA granola and go heavy on the chia seeds! You can also link your card and get rewards. If you are in a rush, try pre ordering and paying on their website. They take Apple Pay too! read more

This location is in a kind of modern cafeteria space which is really nice. Tons of light and nice seating areas. They are typically a little busy when I stop by, but the wait to get what you ordered is never unbearably long. I used to get the mermaid bowl all the time but today I tried the tropikale and matcha bar. Very tasty and fresh. Not filled with syrups and preservatives so the tastes aren't super strong but still really good. read more

Acai bowls are great here, the location is a bit small and finding seating is sometimes difficult, but I usually take mine to go and go sit somewhere else down the street. It's located in a less busy part of Georgetown so it's nice to get a bowl or smoothie from there and take a walk around M street. Favorites are the Warrior Bowl or the Cali Bowl read more

What's not to like about this friendly and warm friendly spot in Georgetown where the bowls are delicious and healthy and the vibe is positive and fun. Set up is slightly quirky because of the steps to get in and the fact that half the traffic is headed to the back for a sandwich, and wants nothing to do with the bowls. You're likely to encounter dogs here so be prepared-it's jarring to those unfamiliar with a dog friendly restaurant. The best bowls are loaded with fruit and peanut butter and granola, but don't be shy about ordering the avocado toast which is pricey but slathered with fine crushed avocado. read more

Pricing: Expensive, especially the juices. Take advantage of the rewards program they offer and sign up for discounts via email. Ambiance: Outdoor seating is great when the weather is nice with lots of umbrellas for shade. Inside can get noisy with the blenders and espresso machines going at it. Limited seating, I wouldn't recommend for studying. Food: Magic Dragon Bowl is refreshing and it comes with tons of strawberries and the yummy granola. I like how you can add as many chia seeds as you like. The colors are also fantastic for that insta. *Pro Tip*: The smoothie bowls always take forever to make, so don't order if you're in a rush. They do have to go lids though and a buzzer so you can grab a seat while you're waiting. Overall: Smoothie bowls are delicious and ~healthy~ but definitely won't fill you up and will take a portion of your wallet with you. read more

As someone who loves Grace St Coffee, it was in due time that I tried South Block. I love the idea of having a coffee shop, mixed with a juice bar, and even a farm-to-table restaurant as well. If you haven't been to the little complex on Grace St, I would recommend that you give it a shot. Its the perfect spot for health nuts, as they have so many health conscious options in one place. Often times my biggest complaint with coffee shops is the lack of healthy choices. As someone who is sensitive to gluten & sugar, it can be hard to find a place where I can also get a snack. This changes the game for sure. When I first tried South Block, I got the 'caveman' bowl. I am sensitive to bananas, therefore I got my base sans banana. Honestly this does change the way a bowl tastes, so I usually adjust my review for that fact. The caveman bowl came with granola, blueberries, strawberries, and coconut on top. The base was nice and refreshing, but there was a lack of flavor overall. Next time I visit I will add some form of nut butter, because that usually aids in a huge flavor adjustment. Also - the portion size is HUGE. Definitely could share one bowl between two, people, as I could not even finish half of mine, before becoming full. Overall, I love this juice bar, and the area that it is situated in. There is a little enclosed patio attached to the building, that is a perfect (and shaded) spot to enjoy your food. read more
This is the place to go if your having the fruity cravings! The açaí bowls are truly something else and there is lots of space to sit. In the summer this is a great little spot with the outside patio easily accessible. I can't get over the Smoothie bowls as each one is sooo good and will make you want to come back. South Block in Georgetown shares a common area that has a good amount of seating with a coffee shop (Grace Street Coffee) and a sandwich shop (SUNdeVICH). It's a good spot to do work or hang out. The bowls that South Block offers are fresh, delicious, and surprisingly filling. BEWARE GEORGETOWN STUDENTS: Although South Block advertises that it accepts the Georgetown Student Card (GO Card) the machine has been broken for ages and South Block does not seem to be in a hurry to fix it. In fact, no one who has taken my order knew what a GO Card was even though the machine was right next to them. read more

I eat here basically everyday and love this place! The staff are superrr friendly and remember my order. Some have mentioned waiting - but they make everything on the spot, which is why sometimes wait times are longer (Plus it is Gtown, literally everything is busy on the weekends) - Personally, I would prefer to wait and get a quality product than some pre-made smoothie. I would 110% recommend if you are looking for a refreshing, healthy place to eat with knowledgable, warm and down to earth staff :) read more

I love a good smoothie bowl and sometimes splurge on South Block when I am too lazy to make my own at home with my weak blender. The warrior bowl is my favorite. It's a classic acai bowl with strawberries, blueberries, banana and granola. The pineapple juice in the base is just the right amount of sweet. You can also add chia seeds or honey as you wish. I like how they put the chia seeds in a squeeze bottle, so easy and convenient! I took one star off because they are wasting so much product!!! I did a little part time job at a smoothie shop back in college and we were taught to hit the side of the blender with our palms as we are filling up the bowls/cups. This ensures that you get everything that might be stuck on the bottom without damaging the blender. While waiting 15 minutes for my smoothie bowl, I realized that none of the employees actually did that. Instead of going into our bowls, they are going down the drain. It just sucks to see this happening. Hope it was just a busy day for them. Overall, nice spot shared with sundevich and Grace Street Coffee. Lots of seating inside and outside but can get busy on the weekends. If it's warm, I'll take my acai bowl to enjoy across the street or somewhere by the canal! read more

I like the bowls from here and that's the reason why I come here (I can't comment on juices and smoothies, since I have my preferred juice place in the city) Really glad it has two locations in DC now. There are varieties of acai bowl as well as dragon bowl (dragon fruit) which is rare in DMV area. Staff wise, they are okay, which is why a star was taken away. They aren't as friendly as the union market location and sometimes they can be sloppy while throwing toppings on the bowl... But it's okay unless you want an IG worthy acai bowl photo. As of March 2017, there have been a few new items on the menu. The toasts!! Love them!! I don't eat avocado toast but the strawberry toast with a bit of avocado is the one I'd go for. The regular avocado toast is slightly greasy for my liking due to olive oil. PB&J is also yummy!! read more

The prices are quite high so I only because of a gift card but if you're ever in Georgetown and need a sweet, healthy and filling meal then come here. My personal favorite is the warrior bowl. I am so glad I gave this place a second chance. My first visit was lackluster- I forget the exact bowl I got but it felt... wet, melted, like a slurry of ingredients in a soup. I came back on a hot day hoping things would be better, and to my happy surprise, it was! I ordered the PBJ bowl and it was absolutely delicious. The texture felt more like a smoothie than melted mush, and the flavors were phenomenal. Plenty of fresh fruit on top, and even distribution of delicious granola on the inside. The gentlemen at the counter was very polite and upbeat, even when I could tell they had lots of online orders that morning. The bowl kept me feeling full and satisfied until DINNER. Now that's bang for your buck! They even have a fridge full of easy, grab-n-go goodies if you're in a hurry. I will be back! read more
