South Block Juice is a great place to go for a healthy snack. I went for the first time after work today. I had informed the cashier that I was allergy to strawberries and ALL nuts products. She was shocked and didn't really have anything to recommend. I just stepped aside to check out the menu. Another employee, Antwon, suggested the Incredible Pulp with the plant protein. I trusted Antwon and order the Incredible Pulp. From the first sip I was ADDICTED. I crushed the entire smoothie in less than 10 minutes. If I was still in the area I would have ordered another two. I can definitely see myself becoming a regular here. Next time I would love to try one of the acai bowls. They looked delicious. Unfortunately most of their bowls contained Strawberries, coconuts, and/or granola (which contain tree nuts). If Antwon is there I'll see if he could create something Great for me. Only downside to South Block are the prices. I spend almost $10 on a 16oz smoothie. I'm willing to treat myself there at least 1 a week though. Next time I'll inform them to get a new blender because I think it was some strawberries let in my the blender. I started to have an allergic reaction about 30 minutes after finishing my smoothie. Woot, woot! Five stars for a fantastic smoothie bar featuring amazing bowls, shakes and all-natural snacks. I love the açaí bowls - so many variety and flavors. They have cool toppings and tons of mixtures. You can also modify most of the ingredients if you have allergies or food preferences. They also have calorie information and ingredients lists. My favorite is the evolution bowl and the almond bowl. There is also a puppy smoothie bowl for your furry friends! The evolution bowl has avocado and spinach and tons of delicious things. You can also order online in advance or through the mobile application. However, I prefer ordering in-person as I like to make a lot swaps. If you order in advance, they will have your smoothie waiting for you in a to-go area. Overall, if you're looking for a healthy lunch, South Block is the place to go! read more

5 stars for a great Georgetown smoothie spot. My wife and I stop in at South Block, located on Grace Street near M Street, about one a week. Since it shares the same building as a few other fun spots (i.e. Sundevich), we are able to grab a few different options and have a great lunch. On our most recent trip, we stopped in with our dog (yay dog friendly) and started glancing over the menu. Smoothie bar isn't really the right term here because most people get one of the awesome acai bowls. I got the almond butter bowl, which was quite large and full of lots of good stuff. The prices (about $10) may seem high, but the portion you get is HUGE and is actually pretty low calorie (a combination that makes for a very full belly without a lot of calories). Overall, South Block is an awesome Georgetown smoothie spot with a great location and excellent tasty options. HUGE YUM! I must admit that I'm a bit embarrassed that I had never tried an açaí bowl before South Block, but I was stubbornly insisting that "those hipster things" were dumb. I know, I know. My sister insisted that we go for one and I reluctantly complied.. hoo boy, was I missing out, these are delicious! Since then, I've been to other açaí bowl places but South Block stands tall as the best. Perhaps I'm biased as it was my first taste, but there is no denying the freshness of their ingredients, the quality of their product, and the convenience of their location. All the customers wore face masks and were only allowed to sit outside in the back. I got the blue mermaid which was refreshing in the heat. But why does every smoothie have banana in it? It's not a 3, not a 4, but somewhere in between. I had the Magic Dragon bowl, and it was really good, and I love that it's a unique healthy meal as an alternative to a salad shop. My husband just came back from Hawaii, and he raves about açaí bowls. We searched for açaí bowls near us (were from Ellicott City, MD), and this place came up. I've never had an açaí bowl, and I was very happy with my meal!! My bowl was the PB&J açaí bowl with an add on of goji berries on top. WoW. I was so happy with my breakfast this morning. It tasted like a very toned down Reese's smoothie (with no chocolate!). The granola and fruits made it all a very satisfying meal. I'm not a big consumer of fruits, but this combination was just perfection. My husband had the warrior bowl. He said that it was average compared to what he had in Hawaii but still refreshing and delicious. The one in Hawaii had yogurt in it, and this one didn't. Maybe we can ask to add in yogurt next time? I know that you can just up your order the way you want it made. However yogurt is not listed as an add-on option. Overall, for the DMV area this is a wonderful and unique addition. Updated review: I decided to give South Block another try since it's located so close to me, and ordered a super green smoothie with plant protein. I would definitely recommend this beverage over the purple smoothie I got last time. The sweetness was just right, and the color was beautiful unlike every time I try and make a green smoothie at home and it looks like sludge! Also, pro-tip, if you want to get a study spot you have to go at off peak hours when the space isn't jam packed AND the online ordering is super convenient too. Never disappointed! I LOVE açaí bowls, I'll literally have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, lol!!! I love the Cali bowl (which I would definitely recommend if you want a regular açaí bowl). For the wait, they give you a takeaway buzzer and it was ready within 5 minutes. The smoothie was refreshing - not too sweet or tangy. You can really taste all the fruits used in the smoothie. I have been a fan since the one lonely shop in Clarendon years ago, I don't think South Block even sold juices yet! I have always loved everything about South Block, even when I was a District Retail Manager for another juice company. I love the quality of ingredients used, and so many amazing flavors to choose from; the Pink Flamingo is usually a favorite, but it's great to switch it up based on my needs that day! The acai bowls are DELICIOUS, and the staff is ALWAYS accommodating when it comes to customizations like turning any smoothie into a bowl, removing or adding ingredients, etc. This is definitely my #1 place in DC for juices and smoothies! The ONLY downfall is that there isn't one in the Shaw/14th Street neighborhood!!!! My bowls are always liquid by the time I get home. :( Hopefully there will be a closer location soon! read more

Looking for a healthy item to bring to a family brunch, I was pleasantly surprised to find South Block. Located just off Wisconsin, you won't find it unless your looking for it, as it is tucked off an alley in a building with a few other fast casual concepts. I ordered several acai bowls and added spinach to them, since a girl needs her greens. I inquired as to wether their produce is organic and was told that everything except the strawberries is organic. The bowls are all pretty similar with variations in toppings. My favorite was the PBJ bowl because peanut butter makes everything better! Topped with blueberries, bananas and granola and I added bee pollen and chia seeds. A bowl is $10. I'd say most the bowls tasted the same except for the PB. I'd love to see different bases for the bowls since acai is mostly sugar. They have juices and smoothies as well. Great option for a gluten-free, dairy-free breakfast in Georgetown. read more

I've been to three South Blocks around the DMV area and this is by far the worst one. The quality of the acai bowls decline every time I visit which is pretty disappointing. When it gets busy (which is almost all the time during the weekends), the workers do a sloppy job with putting the bowls together. The acai base itself is a lot slimier than I'm used to...and the last time I ordered, there were chunks of unblended slimy frozen banana in the bowl. To make matters worse, the bathrooms are disgusting and the trash becomes overpiled and nobody cares to clean it. It's just an unpleasant experience in general lol. Save yourself the money and time and go to the South Block in Clarendon or Vienna. read more

All I had here was a juice. It was the "black" juice, called Activate. The black color comes from activated charcoal but it also has predominant flavors from Apple and lemon, and it was GREAT. It was incredibly refreshing and delicious, and the fact that it was black was kind of weird and interesting. I was a bit bummed that the juices were bottled and sitting in a fridge instead of being freshly made like the smoothies, because that made it seem like less of an authentic juice bar...but maybe that is just not realistic. Also, I didn't realize that the juice bottle I purchased was basically $10 until after I got my email receipt, and I was shocked!! I definitely don't think that my juice warranted the same price as the sandwich that I bought next door. Other people obviously really like them but I wasn't impressed. The bowls have very little granola, the toppings are not chopped up so you are eating very large chunks of fruit and the base (mine was acai) was extremely melty. Having read about South Block online and seen their Union Market location, visiting the shared Grace St. location was a must. I particularly enjoy the spacious seating area just as you walk in, as well as being able to browse the other stalls inside. Easily tempted people beware though, visiting this spot will end up costing you a lot! However, at each of the shops inside, you do get what you pay for - and the South Block portions are generous. Minor remark would be to keep the alley visible from the seating area a little bit tidier. read more
