I had an amazing time at South Fin and the food was excellent. The best part of the restaurant is that it is located right near the beach with amazing views. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The seafood was fresh, seasoned to perfection and the drinks were delicious as well. I had an amazing server who was extremely attentive and checked on me frequently. I even got to meet the chef. Hey chef! Pretty place by the beach. Highlights of meal: calamari appetizer, steak bites (a little tough but good sauce), salad was good, but not memorable, penne vodka (probably my favorite part of meal). I got a beef rib entree, it was good but the meat was slightly tough and very rich. I wish there was more sauce. Presentation is beautiful for all dishes. I have been to south fin once last summer. Not impressed. The only nice thing about it is that it is on the boardwalk and you have beach view. However the food was not great the service was mediocre, and if you sit outside you get pestered by flies. Will not revisit. read more

The food was absolutely delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and incredibly juicy. My favorite was the salmon very flavorful and moist On weekends at night, they have a live DJ, which was a great time. We sat at their small outside bar on a beautiful Saturday night. Bartenders were very nice and efficient. Wifey and I shared fried calamari served with teriyaki and marinara and fried clams served with tartar. Both were delicious. We listened to the band and enjoyed the view of the VZ. read more

I gave them 3 stars because unfortunately some of the bad outweighed the good. I hope the managers and owner will read this and take some corrective steps. I would say that if they correct some of the little things they can easily be 4 stars. I was surprised when I read they only had an average of 3 stars on Yelp especially because they have a card with a QR code to fill out a review on Instagram and Facebook. PROS: Great location on the boardwalk in South Beach Staten Island. Nicely decorated, clean including the bathrooms. Waiters were courteous, the food we ordered was good. The prices were ok, maybe a little on the high side for somethings. Had the crackling calamari as an appetizer which came with a red sauce and mayo was excellent. We also had the Rutherford rib eye steak which is a 14oz certified prime rib eye with house rub and mashed potatoes. The pork ribs were excellent, a good size portion and came with fries and coleslaw. The fries were good, I was not a huge fan of the coleslaw as it had too much Mayo for my taste. We did not have desert as there were only two things to choose from. CONS: unfortunately these few things became the focus and kind of ruined the experience as the meal progressed. Service was slow, don't get me wrong it was nice not to be rushed. Please understand we got there around 5:30 pm and it took about 20 minutes for the waiter to ask if we were ready to order. There were only 2 waiters for 9 tables in that area of the restaurant. I don't know how many others were in the front outside area about 100' away. They were also getting ready for a private party that started around 7 pm. I would expect that if a restaurant has specials they tell you about them and it's preferred if they are out of something on the menu they tell you so you don't get bummed out when it comes time to order. Case in point no tuna tartare and that's exactly what I wanted as an appetizer. Only found that out when I placed the order. We were not told that there was a substitute appetizer for the tuna and only found out they had a rib eye appetizer with feta cheese that we would have ordered and changed the main. Where it really got bad was when we had left overs and the waiter Luis D did not come back. We had to ask the runner to pack up the left overs. Then we had to call over one of the managers who was walking around to get a cup of tea. Then again we had to ask one of the managers for the check. It took 20 minutes between Luis coming over with the check after being told and paying the bill. With all this going on there was someone who appeared to be a manager short, blue suit jacket, baldish who was standing behind one of the areas where the food comes out eating in plain view of my table. The attached photo does not show him eating although whatever I observed him eating he was doing so with his fingers and not using a fork. Between bites he was handing plates of food to the waiters or runners to serve to customers. REALLY?? How unsanitary is that. One other issue was that I only saw about 2 of the employees wearing masks. With the NYC. mandatory vaccine mandate for inside dining starting Monday Sept 13th 2 days from this review that's not encouraging that the restaurant will follow or enforce protocols. Went to visit Statin Island for the weekend. Turns out their boardwalk has only one restaurant. The restaurant turned out to be a real delight for us. We wanted dessert since we already got pizza in New York. I ordered the tres leches. It was very creamy and tasted amazing. Probably the best tres leches I have had in my life. The key lime pie was also very good (again probably the best key lime pie I have ever had). Tasted very tart and had a nice crust to it. The desserts are apparently made on site and fresh. Definitely don't hesitate for dessert at this spot! read more

If you're too lazy to drive down the Garden State Parkway, this place will get you that nice Ocean breeze without leaving the island. The food is solidly mediocre here for lunch, its like eating at any diner on the island. The prices aren't a bargain but they really aren't expensive when you account for overhead, rent here is expensive & its got a monopoly in the area if you want to eat along the Boardwalk. The burger is probably the best deal on the lunch menu, its a healthy size and comes with a generous basket of fries (all lunch combos are under $20). We regularly bike on the board walk. We noticed the loud music anytime we pass. Kids asked can we go eat there. Started biking and stopped for a brunch. And they serve it. And it comes with a price. 29.95 (even for kids) So it's a fixed price. Not a big menu but a good one. French toast - was awesome. Eggs Benedict - Crab cake Cheeseburger - was okay Eggs with steak - not good. Well they served a a basket full of fatty danishes and croissants. It foggy day and you can see the Verrazano bridge from the restaurant, so we could see the fog slowly blanket the bridge which was pretty cool. The restaurant is right on the boardwalk so you're only a few steps from the beach. I had a few Heinekens. My girlfriend and her friends mostly had sangrias. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers including chicken lollipops, French fries, burrata salad, steam mussels, and pita with hummus dip. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. She was very kind to continue refilling our pitcher of water as we drank on the hot night. I guess we came on an oldies night given the playlist and the crowd. I'm so glad I checked out South Fin Grill, while on my way to the South Beach in Staten Island. It was only a 15-minute drive coming from Cobble Hill, Brooklyn on a Saturday afternoon. There was ample FREE parking and I sat at the outdoor bar, which was steps away from the beach entrance. Our bartender, Jose, was easygoing, knowledgeable, and added to an overall excellent experience. My party ordered a Caesar salad, French fries, and clams, which were all delicious and light. In the summer there's music outdoors at their back patio which is lined with trees to block off the Main Street. You can dine indoors and if you're lucky get a table facing the ocean. Anyway let see--- I had the fried calamari which was the strangest I've ever tasted. A little greasy but had little pieces of stuff like green peppers etc which I feel didn't belong. I'm surprised this place has only two stars! The food was delicious. I had the crab cake for an appetizer and it was very flavorful and melted in your mouth. For entree, I had the salmon with truffle cauliflower mash, spinach and melted leeks which all came together in a delicious blend of flavors. I did not have any drinks other than sparkling water. The service was excellent. The ambience is classy casual. You have the option of dining outside on a back patio like deck with lovely views of the water and the Verrazano bridge. I remember the extensive seafood menu at the south fin grill before the pandemic. tried to go there a few months ago and it was closed. we found out it opened again. so today, June 25, 2022, we decided to go again. None of the same professional waiters. The menu was less and, for a seafood place, did not have basic seafood fair. in fact, I got a crispy fish sandwich, and it was terrible. maybe it was Mrs. Paul's. my daughter was served wine in a plastic cup. her Burger was horrible. the chicken salad was not grilled, but breaded and fried. limp soggy French fries. calamari was not as light and crispy as it used to be. it had to change hands. it is a fast food place that serves liquor and has music. may attract people that go for the music and alcohol. not the classy restaurant I remember. read more

Was denied by the manager because we do not have "documentation" - I explained documentation was not required and they legally could ask us two questions. We chose this restaurant mainly because of their fantastic view in the patio. Waitress was great and food was decent though choice were limited and we were provided an outdated menu initially. I could have given them 4-star if the host didn't ruin the day. As we came here for the view, I asked the host if can we sit closer to the beach. I was told all those table were reserved. Went to Blu at South Fin with a friend. I was very disappointed with the misleading advertising and the service. Their online website clearly stated Happy Hour from 5 to 630pm. We arrived at 6pm to learn the only happy hour drinks is beer and wine. Okay, a bit disappointing and misleading but whatever. We order a Moscow Mule cocktail and it was made with the wrong/cheap liquor and was not served in the traditional cooper mug. Seems like the bartender was too lazy to go inside restaurant to get a copper mug. For $16.00 a drink one would think you get what was described on the menu and served properly. read more

The lobster wasn't even cleaned fully of all the gunk inside. I crave crab legs veryyyyy often and these were the worst I've ever had! The smell was so awful - like some kind of ammonia and rot. Oysters were okay, clams were fresh. Service was eh. I used to come years ago and it was great, I'm not sure what changed. Too bad. Bait and switch of rooms day before baby shower. Made arrangements for ocean front room in April of 2016. Signed contract 5 months before. Day before get a call from Peter that we it's going to be great tomorrow with a beautiful breeze. We were supposed to be in a room that would accommodate at least 60 comfortably and he tells me we are outside. No I wouldn't have made a reservation for an outdoor baby shower at the end of the Summer. Horrible. 2 very large showers stuffed into this restaurant. We were not treated well. Very over priced. The $16 burger I ordered taste like goat meat .... yes I've eaten a got before. And it wasn't fresh meat it was obviously a frozen patty.
