This review is based on takeout. Ordering online is easy through the restaurant's website. I appreciated the estimated time for pick up after ordering. Best to enter the parking going southeast on El Camino Real. The parking area is on right and is small but there are specifically marked spaces for SouthIndies restaurant. Pick up was smooth as it was all ready upon arrival. Only indoor dining with dining booths and tables in the center of the dining room. The food overall was satisfying and delicious. All the sauces were flavorful with a good kick of spice. delicious masala dosai. Overall a good meal when you are craving Indian food.

South Indies Veg has a lot going for it -- friendly, welcoming service and a huge vegetarian menu with tons of options. You can tell they put care into the food and the experience. That said, the spice level was way too intense for me. Even dishes I expected to be mild were very spicy, and I honestly struggled to enjoy the meal because of it. If you love heat, this place might be right up your alley, but if you're sensitive to spice, might not be.

I love this restaurant ! It has much greater variety than most South Indian places, the servers are super nice, and the food quality is excellent.

We are now regulars at this place. We keep trying all their dishes on their extensive menu. This time it was the traditional karnataka dish raagi mudde and bassaru. I tried it a friend's place before, their unique way to use dill leaves in the saaru was nice. It can fill you up pretty quick. I enjoyed it. The thali was as usual amazing.

I stopped by on a weekday evening. The place was not busy. I went for a Family masala dosa. That was a real big one. It was good for probably 2 or 3 people. Thatte ghee podi idli was a big idly. It was not as spicy as I expected. Chili bhaji was too hot for my taste. Mini medhu vada was nice and crispy. Coorgi filter coffee was a flavorful coffee.

USP: South Indian vegetarian restaurant with some unlimited thali options. They have a lot of regular alacarte items as well. AMBIANCE: Fairly small restaurant which was recently renovated. Place was empty when we walked in but filled up quickly with lunch time clients. FOOD: It's been a while since I liked most of the items served on a thali. The unlimited thali might be a bit too much for someone like me, I should try the smaller limited thali option next time. The thali came with a vegetable fry, vegetable curry, a chutney, dal, two rotis, a large serving of rice, some fryums, dessert, curd, an appetizer, two pickles. I savored everything on the plate including the pickles. All the items were well cooked and had a perfect balance of spices. Definitely not tamed down as well. I hope they maintain this quality and I can then bump up my rating to 5!

came here on a weekday noon for lunch - decent amount of tables, no wait. I ordered the weekday thali special ($16 and unlimited refills!!!) it was a LOT of food! good value if you're hungry

Pleasantly surprised. This place may look small but they make quality and authentic food. The service was quick and the girl at the counter was very attentive and actually understood vegan food and dietary restrictions which is hard to find at Indian restaurants. Plus points for making fresh squeezed healthy juices!

This place is unique with many unique items on the menu. I also liked the concept. You have a ton of things to choose from. The service is excellent. They explain you the items and answer any questions you may have. The portion sizes are big and the prices are reasonable. Go with a hungry stomach. Some sides could be a bit spicier, watch out. They serve with so many sides that you can easily balance the taste. Thali is ethnic to a specific area depending on the day's menu. But it was sumptuous. Thanks to the team here. It is an honest attempt to be different I should say.

We were skeptical coming in because a restaurant that claims to serve authentic food from all the South Indian states along with Punjabi items can rarely do it all well. However, South Indies seems to be an exception and we really hope they keep up the great work. We got a moong dal dosa (peserattu) with paneer and a thatte idli. Both dishes were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by how crisp the peserattu was. The staff was also really friendly and had great recommendations for us, they checked in to see how things were going multiple times, and they took the time to explain some of the niche items on the menu that we didn't know in more detail. Looking forward to coming back the next time we're in Sunnyvale!

We enjoyed our first meal at this vegetarian Indian restaurant. Welcoming service and lovely, bright dining area. I ordered the Andra karam dosai and my partner ordered the paneer onion utthapam. Both were served with three types of chutney, sambhar, and saagu. Very nice fermented flavor to the dough. Mine was nicely spicy. I really loved the bites I tried of the uttapham too. To drink I had a refreshing raw mango buttermilk. Large menu selection. Fair prices. Located in a strip mall with a parking lot. I want to return to try new dishes!

SouthIndies is a simple strip mall restaurant offering a menu of vegetarian Indian eats with friendly service in a humble atmosphere. The SouthIndies Special Thali, offered on weekends, was a great dish to order to try a bunch of different items in a complete South Indian meal. The round metal platter centered around white rice and came with dal, rasam, okra in tomato curry, mushrooms with spinach, lemon rice, a salad of cucumbers/carrots/moong dal, yogurt, spiced potatoes with peas, payasam (sweet with vermicelli), vada (fritter), a sweet, fryums, a slice of watermelon, two pickles, rotis (whole wheat flatbread), and spiced buttermilk. There were so many delicious flavors and textures featured on the thali, but my favorites were the okra and the mushroom/spinach curries, eaten along with the fresh, chewy rotis. In addition to the thali, I also tried the Rava Idli, two steamed cakes made of semolina mixed with herbs and lentils, but the best part was the chutneys that came on the side, including a green coconut herb chutney, a sweet and tangy tomato chutney, and an earthy peanut chutney! Each of these was fresh and distinct in flavor, making for a delicious array of condiments. Overall, the food here was spot on in spice and flavor and came at a good value, and the service was quick and super friendly too!

I enjoyed most of the dishes that we ordered. Uthappam reminded me of the Ethiopian flatbread (injera), but a pancake form. It was good with the dipping sauces that they provided. The spinach paratha was delicious. I like it without any sauce. The service was good. The atmosphere was quite. This place just opened in the plaza. I would say give it a try if you're in the area.
