Went with my sister Amanda and we had Hans in the morning give the introductory lesson about safety and types of fish before handing us off to Keoki who explained using the spear gun and breathing techniques. Keoki was an amazing guide who made us feel safe the entire time in the water. He additionally brought really great energy and made the time fly by. Gave us plenty of shots and opportunities to try to hit some fish! I took away confidence from being in the open ocean, learned how to dive down, and try to equalize ear pressure. What a fun experience! Our guide, Joe, was very knowledgeable. I really appreciated that we started the trip with a safety minute and trying out some of the techniques on land first. We had to switch location since it had been raining alot previously and some beaches had some bacteria issue because of this. We wished that they would have called the day/night before and gave us the option to go another day. We were only targeting invasive species and game fish so it was much more difficult to catch a fish. Although we did not catch anything, we still had an amazing time! Highly recommend! read more

I really had a good time with this class. And the beginner spear fishing class is just that. we spent the first half doing breathing exercises and and techniques for getting under longer and deeper than you would have thought you could. The time in the water is great. If there is a lot of fish then you may have a great time catching. I thought of this course as showing me the beginning of what i could do over time. Peter is an amazing guide! We were scheduled for a day that had choppy water. Rather than just take us out, we waited until the conditions were perfect to go spearfishing. He taught us our breathing technique, showed us how to use the guns, and we were off! Four hours of diving and stalking some of the most incredible fish I've ever seen! We spent half an hour working as a team to bag our meal for the day. We stopped to catch octopus and spent a lot of time admiring those amazing creatures. We brought one up to the surface to hang out with us, and it even calmed down enough to blend in with our camouflage suits. This was the experience of a lifetime, and Peter made it all possible. Our trip with Peter was the highlight of our Maui vacation. It's such a unique experience, and I was able to get a fish, even as a beginner who can't hold my breath for longer than 30sec to 1min. Hands-down best day in Maui. Peter, was the greatest guide, being incredibly knowledgeable about the sport. He got us in last minute when other companies couldn't. First part of the day was spent learning about the reef habitat, which fish were tasty, proper breathing, diving and the safe use of the spearguns. Peter's lecture goes beyond the basic dos and don'ts by including many interesting facts about physiology and ecology. He is clearly in his element with regards to introducing people to the sport and his excitement is contagious if you aren't already jazzed on hunting fish with pointy things. Second part of the day is spent playing in the water, testing free diving skills and shooting fish. Book this company if you want the most incredible day spear-gunning in the most beautiful reefs on the island. Would recommend to anyone. Amazing time! Will go again with this company. read more

This was extremely disappointing given the cost. The guide Ben gave little to no guidance on fish species and best hunting technique for them. There very little fish to shoot for two experienced speros. Sounds like it is a shame we didn't get Peter as a guide. read more

Peter did a great job. He started off the intro course with time on the beach discussing free diving techniques that I was able to put into practice immediately as we hit the water. He is very knowledgable including participating in invasive species studies with folks at the University of Hawaii. He is very safety conscious and uses well cared for, top quality equipment. My wife and I couldn't have asked for more on first time spearfishing. For those who are concerned about how fit you have to be, don't worry. If you consider yourself a decent to good snorkeler and can handle a bit of surf then you will be fine and have a great time. Next time I am in Maui, I plan to go again. read more
